Disclaimer: This is a general guideline for earning in a stock market for long-term. Intraday is a r

Disclaimer: This is a general guideline for earning in a stock market for long-term. Intraday is a risk which I rarely take. An the opinion in the post is my personal opinion, and not a hard and fast rule for achievement in market.

I started investing in the stock market a few years back. And with the results, I am quite happy.

People say that no one has ever earned anything in the stock market. I beg to differ. Fools have surely not managed it, but wise guys have. I do not wish to implicate that I am wise in this matter, but there are people, like Warren Buffet, Rakesh Jhunjunwalla, who have always shown wisdom.

My idea about it is, if the value of the stock is increasing, then surely someone is making profit out of it, else the prices would keep on going down. So why not that person be you or me?

A little wise decisions, and we all could make decent money in stock.

Some rules :

1. Carry out day trading for around 3 months, and find out the average at the end. You will find that you have lost overall. Or gained some amount which was not worth the risks taken. So my advice is, do not go in for day trading. Believe me, only your broker is earning, not you!!

2. Again the caution, do not go for day trading.

3. But if you still insist here are the some guidelines :

a. Never, never ever, do short selling(selling if you do not have holding). You ‘might’ earn something but in majority of the times you end up losing a huge amount. The risk in short selling is that you have to finish your trade by buying at day end, else you may have to pay up huge penalties. So be ready with the amount which you want to book losses for. Short selling can be done if you have holding in a script and its making some good profit. That way you can sell at a price, and book profit if the price goes down, or you can always be in profit if you let go of the holding.

b. If you do normal buy for as sell later, you can always hold it if the value goes down. But be sure you want to hold that script.

c. Do not believe in tips by brokers. These tips are meant to increase the turnover at their terminals. Trust in your instincts.

4. So you decided not to go in intraday trading. First rule, read. Stay informed about happenings in the market and overall business conditions. It will give an indication of which company is healthy and in position to give good returns. In long-term point of view, it’s always good to invest in a company with good expansion/diversification plans.

5. Do not panic. If your script goes down, always say to yourself, ‘never mind, its long-term investment and it will come up’. In a down market, you can always pick up more stock of the same script to average out your investments. After all you have done some study on the company. Never sell a long-term investment for loss, if you really do not need the cash immediately.

6. Fix your target price. And get out of the stock when the target is achieved. Do not become greedy if the target is achieved. A sudden downfall, can make you wait for some more years to get to that level.

7. Never buy entire quantity of stock all at one time. I always buy half the quantity and stay satisfied. If the price comes down, I can buy more and average out.

8. Many of the stocks double their value in quite a short period. In such cases, take out the investments that you have made. You will be left with the quantity which has only the brokerage as the invested amount. Nearly free.

9. A company with good physical assets and long-term business, is much more lucrative than a fly by night operator whose profits have shot up in a very short span of time after entering market.

10. Look out for the promoters stake. Ideally for any promoter, to run his business, the stakes should be around 30 to 70 %. The promoter is thus confident of getting good returns himself if the business is good and its benefits are passed out to shareholders.

11. Never take loans to invest in stock. You will be looking for a return amount, somewhere more than your investment plus the loan interest. This situation might not materialise. Try to invest only the spare cash in hand as much as possible.

12. Don’t go by the promises made by a company. Look into the dedication of the company towards achiving those promises.

13. Spare a minimum amount to play an uncalculated game. Hold a large quantity of few penny stocks, as they come cheap, but might give good returns. Such case has happened in India when people had a holding of a particular script(the name I do not reveal, as I do not intend to advertise a particular script) for few years at its face value but it gave them returns by thousand times, yes thousand times!!

14. Diversify. Go into many a fields during investment. Stocks follow a cyclic trend wherein a certain industrial sector goes up at one time while some other industrial sector goes down. Thus your investments will be balanced against the possible dowfall of a particular sector.

There are lot more. But in the end if you start taking all of them in to consideration, you may not be able to markout good stocks for investments, as many guidlines will contradict each other. So use your brains, not mine, not the experts’.

And be always satisfied with your returns.

Humans have been telling stories to each other since time immemorial. They serve a deep psychologica

Humans have been telling stories to each other since time immemorial. They serve a deep psychological and sociological need. Let us examine a few key concepts:

WHAT IS A STORY?

Quite simply, it is a journey of inter-connected events with a beginning, middle and an end providing

dramatic fulfillment

education

knowledge

entertainment

emotional stimulation and,

a satisfying conclusion (we love closure)

Stories began as visual medium when our forebearers painted images on cave walls. or drew with sticks in the sand. They were accompanied by words or grunts. As complex language developed, stories were increasingly verbalized, and later on written. Stories today can be exclusively composed of images, written words or speech, but often times are a combination. Cinema is primarily a visual medium, with a lesser proportion of words (dialogue). Television is more dialogue based than cinema in general.

A story must have a purpose. For instance, the Australian Aboriginal woman at a rock formation called “The Devil’s Marbles” in the Northern Territory told stories to keep youngsters away from these rocks to avoid danger. A story can be as dry as a depiction of actual events or “life-like” events. Even fantasy fairy tales emulate “life-like” events through suspension of disbelief. Whatever dungeons and dragons we use, the events in a story must feel authentic .

Stories also need a theme (exploration of the human condition). What topics or concepts is your story exploring? Racism? The power of the human spirit during disaster? Love always triumphs over evil? Revenge? And the list goes on. This has been discussed in an earlier blog in the 36 dramatic situations by Georges Polti. Be careful that you are only exploring one central theme and perhaps one or two minor ones. Otherwise your story loses focus which must be found.

In order to make a story compelling, there must be a protagonist (hero), a goal, a dilemma, conflict, an antagonist (nemesis) and a moral (leading to growth) to create a complete experience. And more importantly, an audience. Stories help us communicate with each other, and add meaning and enrichment to our lives. They bring people together through sharing and help us evolve and grow stronger.

Dramatica defines story as a grand argument dealing with a problem or an inequity. Huh? Basically, it raises the issue of a hero with a conflict as they are yanked from their natural world through a critical or inciting incident, and how they go about solving it.

During a recent seminar by Jen Grisanti (a Hollywood writers’ consultant and wonderful person too), she spoke of the importance of finding your story. What is the writer specifically trying to say? Why are they taking up her with a series of events? Is your story too episodic? What do you want your audience to get from watching your film? What message are you trying to convey to your audience?

The movie “Tootsie” spent close to a decade in development until the writer Larry Gelbart finally decided that ‘Tootsie” was a story about a man who had to become a woman in order to better understand them and himself. It wasn’t so much a story of desperation, the lengths people go to to make it as an actor, or about a guy liking to dress up. Consider “What Women Want” with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt which was essentially the same story with body rather than clothes swapping.

Jen Grisanti sees stories as media for building communities. Pretty powerful stuff. A good story must have clarity and must be relevant to the times. How does the story make you feel? These are primal concepts, but difficult to nail down. It must also possess deeper symbolism to have a greater impact on us. She sees the important aspects of raising the emotional stakes in a story as being

anticipation

expectation

participation

surprise and,

a delayed payoff

WHAT IS A PLOT?

A plot is simply the way a story is executed, or a cause and effect series of events. A road map. It is the mechanics of your story; how the sequence of events are put together. Many writers confuse the two and think writing event after event constitutes a story, especially in action films. Is your plot linear, non-linear or avariant? Classic examples of unconventional plotting include “Memento”, “Reservoir Dogs” and “Run Lola Run”. Plot also relates to structure, the most common being the Aristotelian three act structure. Is there a clear concept or story idea, which is more specific than a theme? Good versus evil isn’t a story concept. Is there a well defined central/main character with a clear motivation, goal, a dilemma and obstacles. One way to enhance your plotting is to consider what is the worse case scenario if your main character doesn’t achieve their goal. The ultimate failure to achieve a goal is death.

Subplots are secondary or tertiary storylines. Some readers have complained that, because a writer hasn’t really found their story, some subplots are actually more intriguing than the main plot. It happens in unpolished scripts. Even to me! Another problem I recently grappled with is my choice of main character to drive the plot. In the end I switched the boy to a girl (literally not surgically) and everything fell into place.

FINDING YOUR VOICE

These are the less tangible qualities that define you as a writer. Jen Grisanti claims that many newer writers lack a distinct voice which distinguishes them from other writers.

This is a difficult process of self exploration. It means that we need to delve deeper into our psyches than ever before. She made us define a critical or life changing incident where the rug was pulled from under our feet and we are forced to deal with a new reality. Sound familiar? In doing so, we help shape our characters which are products of our creativity and therefore ourselves. Imagine placing your profile on a social website. Think of how you would describe your personality? What are your likes and dislikes? What do you value most in your relationships with other people? Certain patterns will emerge which define you as an individual. Are you easy going? Wound up tight? Chatty? Pensive? Conventional? Alternative? Think about how a producer might discuss what qualities you possess as a writer. If a project is greenlit and a producer is looking for a writer and they say “This project is perfect for xxxx (insert your name)”, it’s because of your voice.

Part of finding your voice involves common themes in the stories we like to tell. Are we animal lovers? Philanthropists? Comedians? Feminists? Optimists? Cynical? Interested in human suffering? Are your characters strong, successful people? Are you strong and successful or do you aspire to be? Are characters underdogs? What is their disposition? Happy? Smarmy? Cheerful? Quirks?

Finding your story and finding your voice is rather like wanting a quick definition of the meaning of life. The only way to find it is to keep searching. And the search lies in the writing. So what are you waiting for?

So, where have I been, you ask? I have been working on the book harder than ever, and I’m finally beginning to see the fruits of my labor much, much earlier than expected. The first chapter of the book was published independently as a stand-alone magic effect, called “Torched and Restored Revisited: An introduction to a Miracle.”

The 24 page booklet contains detailed instructions on how to perform the effect, a plethora of pics, the history of the effect, and a section called “the work behind it all” which really gets into the down and dirty details of why the effect works so well, and how to make it better. All in all it’s a worthy project that I believe adds value to the magic community as a whole.

The effect is on sale for $20 at Decks, Lies, and Videotape, and it comes with three bonus items that I will discuss in future posts. They are all valuable items. I believe that in this case, twenty dollars buys you thousands worth in knowledge.

posted by: gcallejo

That statement has made some of you sit up and take notice. Yup I work at home. All I have to do i

That statement has made some of you sit up and take notice.

Yup I work at home. All I have to do is get up drink my coffee, eat breakfast and turn on the computer. Then I start taking calls. My first paycheck was less than 500$ but my second paycheck is going to be $1287 but that is before taxes. That is for two weeks plus one day of work. After taxes that works out to about $450 per week. I am responsible for paying the taxes as I am an independent contractor. At tax time I now have to fill out extra paperwork. I have to fill out the self-employed paperwork.

Work at home job is my backup plan. I am hoping that it will continue to work out for me. I spent very long hours at the beginning to bring my stats up and it has paid off. How many hours? I got up and was ready for work by 5:30 am and stayed on the computer taking calls until it was time for bed. I am allowed a bathroom break 4 minutes and 59 seconds out of every 30 minutes. By now though I meet my daily $ goal by 3:30 pm and sometimes sooner, so of course my daily $ goal has gone up My daily $ goal was to meet all my bills with nothing left over but now that my daily $ goal has gone up, I will be able to start saving $$$$. I am working 7 days a week but that is because I want to get to a point that I can take two weeks off and visit my friends.

Enough already, what is it I am doing all day, tell us please, OK I hear you. I take calls all day. You have seen these products in a commercial or an infomercial. Magic Bullet, Back 2 life, Slim in 6, Debt Cures, and so on and so forth. People call the 800 number for the product and order that product. It is my job to sell that product and any other items that go with it (upsells) then at the end are what is known as Affinities. The Affinities are magazines and other club type stuff like a free gift card and free 30 days of using the service then they have to call to cancel or they will be charged.

Ok some of these products I will never use but just because I don’t find these items useful does not mean that someone else won’t. Also, if I didn’t sell this product to this person someone else will. The first few calls were pretty scary, but you have a ’script’ to follow and that helps. They told me that the FCC requires me to make all the offers and all the affinities. The only way to get past that is if they threaten to cancel the order then you get to skip all the upsells and all the affinities. Sometimes you don’t get a warning, they just hang up on you. Some stuff you HAVE to read ver batim. You can’t leave out one word.

I was doing research on work at home jobs. I applied to one place and I did not hear back from them so I continued to do more research. I applied at a second place but I didn’t type fast enough for that job. So I kept researching. I applied to a third place and bingo!! It paid off.

Start the application process. 1 Provide basic contact and background information. Then you do a voice audition and take a reading comprehension test and (later) possibly a 45 minute skills assessment. 2 You must pass a background check and a credit check. This is a $50 fee that you pay for via a credit card. 3 Then you will be invited for a Virtual Business Presentation. They send you a code and you log on and see the presentation. You have a limited time to do this. They ask you to sign a contract. (I don’t remember the part about the Virtual Business Presentation).

So you are saying to yourself that is a lot of hours. Ok how much time do you spend getting ready for work, then add how much time you spend getting to work, then add how much time you spend at work, then add how much time you spend getting home from work (errands dont count). Now compare that to the time I have spent online. Uh huh not so many hours now ehhh. For me I don’t have a gasoline bill anymore nor do I put wear and tear on my car. I will be able to spend less for car insurance now.

So here I sit in my jammies drinking coffee between calls. I thought I would be able to do knitting or crocheting or other needlework between calls but I have to grab a ’seat’. The calls go to the people who have seats first, then they go to the people who have the highest ‘conversion’ rates. So I spend a lot of time grabbing seats. Hopefully I will reach a point that my conversion rates will rise to the point where I can afford to do a little needlework.

I have learned to eat food in little tiny bites so that when a call comes I can finish eating before I pick up the phone.

The equipment required: pc, landline phone with headset jack, corded (not wireless) headset, high-speed internet connection (not wireless). PC must be fairly recent. Remember any $ spent on these items can be applied to taxes on the self-employment tax form when you do your income taxes. This form is schedule C. In addition you have to pay self-employment taxes, these are the social security and medicare taxes. Then you have to pay estimated income taxes.

Hombres y “Dibus”

It IS time.

I wrote about advances in captioning technology and how this could make online video exponentially more useful almost a year ago. Captions are obvoiusly very important for people with hearing impairments but can also be useful for students studying a language.

At the time, work was being done on automating the process because it takes several hours to transcribe the text and then synchronize it to each hour of video. Manually captioning all of the video that exists online or even that is currently being created is simply not possible. What a difference a year makes.

YouTube recently announced the addition of an automatic captions feature. This announcement picked up by Mashable and it echoed through the Twittersphere. My first reaction was, “Finally!” Followed by the question, “I wonder how accurate it is.”

Ken Petri, Program Director for the Ohio State Web Accessibility Center, addressed these concerns in an email to the OSU Exploring Learning Technologies community:

If you have ever seen the results from Google Voice’s automatic transcription you know they are usually not perfect. For an educational context, a perfect or close to perfect transcript is usually necessary. This and the fact that most of you will not have access to the automated transcription feature in YouTube means that, while it is an exciting announcement, it is not a panacea.

Fortunately, you can opt to upload your own transcript and have YouTube auto-align it to your video. If the video is scripted (as opposed to improvised) it can be easy to obtain a trascript. Transcribing a video can take a long, long time, but automating one step in the process is helpful.

In general, every step that is automated will increase speed and efficiency while lowering costs, but will also introduce inaccuracies. As each step in improved, we will get closer and closer to the goal of captioning every online video.

Sencillo ejemplo de como leer un fichero línea por línea en bash y almacenar dicha línea en una variable para luego poder tratarla, la verdad que este código me ha resultado bastante útil durante mis tareas con sistemas operativos GNU/linux

i=0
while read line
 do i=$(($i+1));
 echo $i $line
done < "/etc/passwd"
echo "Final line count is: $i";

El ejemplo lee el fichero /etc/passwd y muesta el número de lína ( variable $i ) y el contenido de la línea ( variable $line )

Espero que os sea igual de útil que me ha sido a mi para muchas cosas
