Do you like the way you use your iPhone when surfing the internet?  To be specific,  the way you scroll the page by just dragging anywhere in the page?  Do want also to do this in a desktop computer?

With Firefox web browser, you can achieve this by just installing Grab and Drag plug-in. This turns your cursor into a Hand Cursor (You can set its appearance in its option window).  It allows you to scroll a page upwards, dowwards or sidewards with just clicking an open space in a page.  You will then need to drag to whatever direction you like.

It also has additional features like flick gestures and Momentum scrolling.  And in case you need to copy a text, you can just toggle it on or off via a navigation button.  Alternatively you can do this by just triple clicking the text to select it.

I must say that this plug-in is essential in my field of work.  Your productivity may increase too if you use this plug-in as what it did for me.

Depois que adquiri um Omnia HD, muitos testes tenho feito. A cada semana descubro um novo truque ou um novo software para meu novo companheiro. Acho que se eu tivesse comprado um N97 ou o Sony Ericsson Idou eu não ficasse tão satisfeito como estou com o Omnia HD. Realmente é uma máquina! A pesar da Nokia fazer uma grande publicidade com os novos firmwares do N97, melhorando significativamente o desempenho do aparelho, a Samsung também vem desenvolvendo algumas novidades muito interessantes para o seu modelo top de linha, sem tanto marketing. Mas como este aparelho não é vendido oficialmente na América (ainda), as melhores versões dos firmwares são Chinesa, Italiana e a Russa. Já experimentei as três e cada uma apresentou com pontos positivos e negativos. No geral são equilibradas em qualidade e desempenho. Mas uma das coisas que eu não suportei, e presente nas três, são alguns softwares pré-instalados, que, nem que você queira, não consegue desinstalar. Tomando espaço precioso na memória do celular, comprometendo o desempenho do mesmo, e isto é uma coisa que não deveria acontecer já que o sistema Symbian é muito prático e fácil de se instalar e desistalar softwares.

Até que descobri hoje, em um blog que eu nem sei que país é, e lá tem disponível uma versão de firmware chamada de i8910HX_1.5_SPEED_EDITION_1.25, que até então eu não conhecia. Provavelmente foi desenvolvida por um “monstro” em Imagens ROM.

Simplesmente demais esta versão, além de não vir nenhum software “lixo” pré-instalado, possui uma liberação bem maior de memória RAM. No pacote, vem junto um programa ROM flashing tool (próprio) e um programa para desbloquear o aparelho, sem precisar assinar o HelloOX2.

Agora com o novo Opera Mini 10, o “bixo” está voando mais ainda. O navegador Web kit possui o kinetic scrolling (da versão chinesa) e não possui o menu em 3d (provavelmente retirado para aumentar o desempenho). Em compensação, vem com um pluguin que possibilita uma animação na transição de programas bem legal. Apple is a company that is known for unveiling new products that are innovative and elegant in design. This is somewhat of a deciding factor which attracts potential buyers regularly to purchase their products. The company has added many new additions recently to their store, most notably the new Magic Mouse.

The Magic Mouse, is the first multi-touch, capacitive sensored mouse available on the computer market. The mouse lacks any visible buttons, or the scroll ball from the last mouse released by Apple. All scrolling and clicking is done through the sensors on the surface, which allows momentum scrolling; similar to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The wireless Bluetooth mouse features fingerswiping, meaning you can swipe along the surface in any direction and the page your on responds in that manner.

While the product is graceful in design, the novelty of multi-touch can wear off for some used to the Apple Mighty Mouse.  According to Macworld, those used to the multiple button functions of the Mighty Mouse, may be disappointed with this product. In essence, the Magic Mouse merely functions as a two-button mouse, and if not used on Mac OS X 10.5.8 or higher, it is just that. The same applies (for those with the current Mac OS build) running Bootcamp, Parallels, or the like; no multi-touch available.

Yet the design and multi-touch features will be the clincher in the deciding factor for potential buyers. If having two buttons only isn’t an issue, then this iteration of Apple’s mouse will be the perfect buy for you.

Apple on Tuesday released its Magic Mouse, a new mouse that features gesture control. The $69 accessory uses BlueTooth wireless to connect to the host computer.Good days for right and left handers.

The new multitouch mouse supports a range of gestures for clicking, multiple buttons, 360-degree scrolling, screen zooming and page “swiping.” Apple said the mouse is designed for righties and lefties.

The Multi-Touch area covers the top surface of Magic Mouse, and the mouse itself is the button. Scroll in any direction with one finger, swipe through web pages and photos with two, and click and double-click anywhere. Inside Magic Mouse is a chip that tells it exactly what you want to do. Which means Magic Mouse won’t confuse a scroll with a swipe. It even knows when you’re just resting your hand on it.

Scrolling through podcasts on ipod is slow with firmware 3.1.

I have a iPod Touch 2G.
I updated iTunes (9.1.0.8) and the iPod Touch (3.1.2). Those are the current versions.

I came from firmware v3.0 which was fine. But now the scrolling in the podcast directory is a huge pain.

When scrolling through the list, whenever a new item is displayed the scrolling stops for a quarter of second. On the first scrolling I can’t scroll faster than one item height per second. When I flick the iPod takes 7 seconds to finish the operation. While performing the flick only 5 frames are shown (instead of 100+ frames that induce a smooth experience) to get from the start of the list to item #15. Even very, very slow scrolling is stopping every two or three items.
Having scrolled through the podcast list (50 items) it gets faster. But it still isn’t as it was in 3.0. It still stops while scrolling. I don’t have that behaviour in “lists” or “albums”. Everything is fine over there.

Scrolls large text across the screen in landscape mode so that other people in really loud or really quiet places can get your message. Supports adding, editting, and deleting saved messages. In the future I plan to add support for different foreground and background colors, variable scrolling speeds, and more.

In the article A Simple Scroll Controller for Winforms I mentioned that I was working on a FlickScrolling framework for Winforms.

I finished a version of this code a couple of months ago and it seems to work well.  

The code never went into production because I think that Windows 7 will provide this functionality automatically for winforms applications. 

Nevertheless, some people have showed an interest in what I came up with, so I’m posting it here for your edification.  I hope someone finds it useful.

Usage

To use, simply instantiate the “ApplicationFlickScrolling” class, passing in the datatypes of the container controls you wish to scroll.

For example:

Private Shared moApplicationFlick As New ApplicationFlickScrolling(GetType(Panel))

To switch it on and off, used the “Enabled” property:

moApplicationFlick.Enabled = True

That’s it!

The Implementation

The code consists of 3 classes:

• ApplicationFlickScrolling to act as the master controller class
• ApplicationMouseEvents class for detecting mouse events
• FlickDetector for detecting simple gestures
• ScrollController for performing elastic-style easing of scrolling

Improvements

If I’d have continued developing this I would have modified ScrollController to use “proper” easing functions.
