I spent Friday at the beach (and in South Haven) with Jesse and Boss of One — who are soon to

I spent Friday at the beach (and in South Haven) with Jesse and Boss of One — who are soon to be the bosses of a new baby and won’t have any time to spend with me after September 27th.

My day @ the beach was killah. I drank a juice box, some lemonade, a fuzzy alligator, and a rum runner. I ate part of a healthy turkey wrap, but then I totally devoured some nachos with guacamole. Then I ate some buffalo wings.

Yeah, basically I classed it up.

Anyway, I’m here to tell you that my day was perfect — and it was made even better when I came home and found out that Scrubby’s cupcake adventures made it onto Cute Overload.

Hells yeah!!

You could tell me that I won the lottery, right now, and I would be like, “Really? I don’t care. Let me tell you more about Scrubby.”

For his part, Scrubby is totes humble and won’t let this sudden stardom go to his head. As long as you feed him tuna flakes and rub his soft chin, he will be the same little guy. That’s why we like Scrubby. Simple needs for a simple kitteh.

Paspalum are off and away – playing a Gladstone Gig tonight at the RAILWAY INSTITUTE courtesy of Stewie from Bullamakanka and then on to WINTERMOON in CAMERON’S POCKET for the long weekend. LONG in Queensland but not in NSW. That left Scrubby with the Blues Club for the night. Bill headed down in the Char-ade . The Star Wagon is there but Bill ain’t never driven it and probably won’t do so this Long Weekend either. The Char-ade is going fine. She is registered till April 16 2009 and the large hairy spider seems to have vacated the premises so all is well vehicle-wise. Bass Player had left a large envelope of “things” for Scrubby – nothing illegal – seems the Scrub still uses ‘records’ so the Bass Player converted them to CDs so the Bandits could pretend they hadn’t missed the Milennium Change-over.

MICK DICK AND SUE. Once again there was a goodly crowd and Scrubby had brought in MICK DICK on double bass, JIM DUKE-YONGE on drums ( and he did one really rocking number with vocals as well) and PETE MORRISON on guitar and harmonica. The atmosphere is again the old BBC magic. Can’t work out why the Cold Weather brings us out of the Hills but there it is. Jaki had re-arranged the tables and they looked good. Tablecloths and all – which could be getting a little COUTH for the Club but mebbe it will raise the standard of our Custom. Bill had a chat and a meal before the lads got into playing. Last night was the Dolphin Awards down in Lismore and the HILLBILLY BLUES BANDITS came in number one with Dennis’ song – now I think it was CUCKOO but will double check with Scrub. A fine thing anyways.

Helen and Bob joined the Bill for a bit but he still had the Blues somewhat about not seeing the Tropics. Memories of 1973 and a mini-moke with the Greek Gentleman kept haunting his visions. Bill’s not fond of the Cold and a trip to Armidale don’t seem as appealing as the Northern Towns – so after a chat here and a few words there – he was ready to take himself off home and sit beside a heater and REFLECT on journeys he ain’t going on. Passed the bar and Stopped for a moment with Geordie and Dave. Now they are up to something. Geordie Leach with his Padded Cell Studios and Dave Cavanagh with a new album coming up. Bill has heard bits and pieces of this one and will keep you posted. Dave had had a dozen top musos playing with him on this. Geordie is off soon too. OS as they used to say. Geord promises some overseas fotos from the

bands he’s playing with over there. Now thats bigtime stuff. Not a bad place this little valley of ours.

Izzy’s birthday brought more flooding rain. Been a lot of it this year. So Friday 18th was spent on the Hill in The Cottage. All 4 offspring of Iz and Chick rang in with Birthday Greetings . Izzy was determined to bake his own cake for Sunday at Ilnam Estate winery and did so. Smelt so Good Hot that Chick and Iz ate it. The rest of the story is yours in pictures.

Friday night saw Izzy with Hillbilly Blues Bandits in Brunswick Heads at BRUNSWICK HOTEL. 35 minutes

Friday night saw Izzy with Hillbilly Blues Bandits in Brunswick Heads at BRUNSWICK HOTEL. 35 minutes South of the Gold Coast they say. For Izzy and Chick its about the same distance. Down the Motorway through the Cane and into Brunswick Heads on Dusk with storm clouds overhead. When Izzy played Brunswick last time the Storm hit full on . The same storm that wiped out parts of Dunoon but this time it was merciful and only a few drops fell. Great setup down there. A bandstand under cover and paved beer garden. The Star Wagon slipped right into a parking stop which is a good thing due to the Starter Motor packing it in again and Its taking a hammer and stick to get it started.

10 minutes further on would be Byron but Chick and Iz prefer Brunswick. Byronites feel free to try to convert us. Hasn’t happened yet after the stay at the Luxury Resort – with the “Lake”. Brunswick Pub offers Gourmet Food and means it. We ate from the super efficient “Bruns” . Classic Aussie Pub so it says and is. Scrubby had the $7 Kids meal and looked happy with that and the Double Bass went for the Lentil, begie and chick pea patties which were ENORMOUS and fresh and $15 . The Pub was Built in 1940 and isa retro classic . Packed with people and a perfect Northern Rivers Autumn night.

!!!

The lineup was Scrubby, Izzy and Pete Jaggle. That covers Murwillumbah , Bilambil and Lismore , that little crew.

Izzy says” IT WAS A GOOD GIG. A very ASTUTE audience ( which means they thought he was funny) and it is always a pleasure to play with P.J. ” says the Iz.

Today, I slept in, lounged around reading disturbing novels, and then got up and went to work. Somew

Today, I slept in, lounged around reading disturbing novels, and then got up and went to work. Somewhere in there I rejoiced because my amazingly expensive bike pump had been returned and I am once more able to ride my bike. I also paid the phone bill. I think I may have showered at some point.

All of this pales in comparison to the unexpected generosity of the Scrubby men at the Northbourne/Barry Drive intersection.

On my way to work, I pulled up in my ridiculously dirty silver Camry known as Harriet, and the first scrubby man approached me. I said no, don’t worry about it, I have no money. But he was like “nah! free of charge!” and proceeded to begin cleaning my unbelievably grotty windscreen. I was thinking “awesome! free windscreen clean. good for me,” and then I looked in my rear view mirror, and Scrubby’s friend was cleaning my back window, which was similarly disgusting. I was suitably chuffed by this. They both did a really good job, too, and then when they were finished, the original Scrubby was like “you have a lovely day” and I was like “okay! i will!”

So that was pretty good. But then it got even better when I was on my way home from work, and I pulled up at the same lights, and the Scrubby who has been kicking around since first year approached me, and I was like “nah, don’t worry about it” but he was like “nah, i will, i will” and I said “it was done three hours ago!” and he said “i got nothing better to do,” and did it again. And again, I was like “cool, no worries, go nuts” And then, I dug out forty cents from under the car seat to give to him, and he was totally happy, and he told me to have a fantastic long weekend.

I now have a very clean windscreen.

I’m going to attempt a cream of broccoli soup tonight. Could be interesting. I’ve never made a creamy soup.

We won the hockey grand final, in case anyone’s wondering. 2 – 1 in sudden death strokes. It was tense.

I love you aaaaaaaaalll………maybe not, but I want people to leave comments because they think I love them.
