Another sculptor that I found in my search. Meg White is an interesting sculptor that she started doing 3D works by paper, and now she uses other materials like bronze, limestone and clay. Most of her works are public works but I found her private works much more attractive. To see her work click right here.

Bert Simons makes very beautiful 3 dimensional pseudo realistic paper portraits and sculptures. Also, I liked his plain but effective web designs. Click here and see more of his works.

This is my first Blog and I’m looking forward to share my view of my work; either it is a photo, painting, sculpture or a drawing. My art express my feelings, my experience in life and off course some of the artists that inspired me.

Photographer: Duane Michaels

Oil painter: Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Odd Nerdrum, Titan, Michelangelo, Leon Bonnat

Modern Fantasy work: Julie Bell and Boris Vallejo

Sculpture: Michelangelo and Musee Rodin

Movies: Brazil, Matrix, Ghost

Musics: Michael Jackson (dance and music), U2, Van Halen, Styx, Journey, Metallic, Queen (all time favorite), Red Hot Chili Peppers, 80’s music, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday to name a few. For some reason I like music only when I paint.

With my passion with music, dance and traditional art; I really enjoy taking photos with the elements into of my work. I really feel the composition is one of the key to my style. With the Romance couples photo; I always want the man to be more than life just like Michelangelo did the sculpture of “David” or Musee Rodin did with “The Thinker“. If you observe closely the Hands are bigger than the actual human size. I feel a man should be tough on the outside but gentle to the woman he protect and love. I enjoy working on the romantic side and it is a bit of me embedded in each photo; it is like magic. Duane Michals is one of the original story teller photographer that I really enjoy.

Please enjoy Duane Michals work with over 50 years of story telling:

Oh wow! My favourite musician, Andrew Bird is working on a soundtrack! That’s definitely going

Oh wow! My favourite musician, Andrew Bird is working on a soundtrack! That’s definitely going to be my favourite soundtrack EVER!

But let’s start at the beginning.
Chicago based, multi-instrumentalist, melodymaster and very handsome person Andrew Bird is working on a variety of projects, including a soundtrack.

Mr. Bird released ‘Noble Beast’ earlier this year and that album was actually pretty succesful (reaching nr. 12 in American charts). He has revealed that he’s currently working on three different projects, at least that’s what he told BBC 6Music. He claimed that he is attempting to finish the soundtrack to a forthcoming film named ‘Norman’, it’s a high school dramedy. ‘It could do quite well,’ he told 6 Music News. ‘It’s got a fairly well known cast and it’s really well written and everything. It is more of a drama, it tackles high school drama without being lame. This is the first legitimate full length film that I did. I had the monitor of the film in the studio and I’m playing. It’s a lot of work. I don’t know if I ever want to do it again.’

He also revealed that he’s working on a set of new songs, including one named ‘Lusitania’ after a stricken passenger ship. ‘I’m using different naval incidents that drew the US into conflict, like the sinking of the maine and the Lusitania is a metaphor for a wounded relationship or something,’ he explained. ‘It actually really works, but it took my like four or five years.’

Mr. Bird has also recorded a cover of the Kermit the Frog favorite ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green’(but not in french this time) for the upcoming tribute album Muppets Revisited. The album also features Weezer doing ‘Rainbow Connection’. And rumours say also My Morning Jacket tackle ‘Our World’ as well.

Also Andrew Bird added that he have been working in collaboration with a sculptor on a variety of new instruments. ‘I’ve been collaborating with this sculptor in Chicago who makes these horns that I play through – they are like speakers – to create a whole installation, a room full of these horns that are shaped like poppies, making loops that come out of different horns. It’s like an arboretum of sonic sculptures. It’ll be a travelling museum show. It’s just getting started,’ he said. (But that was actually quite old news.)

I hope he’s playing ‘Lusitania’ sunday!
(forgive me for this crappy YouTube version of the song, but this one has the best sound quality)
To the delight of parishioners, they sang while they worked.

Now approaching the 139th anniversary of its first worship service, the sanctuary of Trinity Episcopal Church of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, is an example of timeless design and function. Before the first service was conducted on Christmas day in 1870, the entire cost of some $18,000 to construct the building was paid. See an exterior picture and another interior picture and get in on the beginning of this story on the Photo of the Week page at corndancer.com. Click here to make the trip.

Marble and music

Trinity’s distinctive altar, installed in 1929 was crafted by sculptors at Antonia Studios in Florence, Italy. The three ton work of art took nearly a year to the date to be completed and shipped to church. Sculptors from Antonio Studios accompanied the altar and assembled in it the church. They had other talents. My friends, the late Charles and Alice Warriner, told me years ago that the artisans were imbued with the legendary Italian propensity to sing and sing they did as they installed the altar. According to Charlie and Alice, word of these impromptu performances spread quickly and local people gathered to observe and listen.

This window, a memorial to Julia Embree Roane, was moved in 1929 from the east wall of the church, (now occupied by the altar), to the southwest corner of the nave.

Get ready to rumble

The sanctuary, designed before public address systems were conjured in even the wildest of dreams has acoustic characteristics which give rise to music that will raise the hair on the back of your neck and cover you with goose bumps. The fine organ will rumble the foundation. Add a couple of trumpets or other free-standing instruments and you will hear sounds you will not forget.

The music is made here at thte console by Faron Wilson, Trinity's talented choirmaster and organist. The sounds you hear roll from the chambers and surround you with melody and rhythm.

The building is truly magnificent. It is well preserved and cared for with all due diligence. But the building is a symbol and its true meaning could be lost were it not for the Christian people who make up the parish, occupy the pews and take up the mantle and follow the teachings of Christ. That my friends is the church.

Gray’s Auctioneers is pleased to announce the sale of a rare Hébrard foundry bronze sculpture by Edgar Degas, known as Le Tub.

Deba Gray, auctioneer and owner of Gray’s Auctioneers, immediately recognized the sculpture when she first discovered it in a warehouse in New York. What intrigued her was the fact that the sculpture’s base had been violently removed and it seemed to have evidence of fire damage. Here begins the mystery that Ms. Gray set out to solve. She immediately thought that the piece may have been stolen during wartime, and as such she consulted Art Lost Registry, who informed her that the piece had not been reported as stolen or missing. Further research revealed that the owner had inherited the piece from his father, who had purchased it from a New York City antique dealer 40 years earlier for $25.00. Neither the father nor the dealer were aware the piece was by Edgar Degas because of the missing base, where the signature and foundry marks were located. The father was told that the damaged sculpture had belonged to famed Broadway producer Billy Rose, and that it was damaged in a fire at his Mount Kisco estate in the late 1950’s. Billy Rose had an extensive art collection which was donated to the Israel Museum upon his death in 1966.

Despite the damage, the most important Degas elements remained- that being the girl in the bathing tub. The problem was the part of the base which was now missing contained all the information needed to authenticate the work. It includes the Degas signature, the foundry stamp and all the other important identification marks on the bronze. After researching various experts that could help authenticate the sculpture Ms. Gray found that Walter Maibaum is the leading authority on the subject and she contacted him. Mr. Maibaum has recently made a tremendous discovery in France; he has uncovered a great number of lifetime plaster sculptures by Degas which were completely unknown to previous scholars and experts. When learning of his discovery, the heirs of Edgar Degas authorized bronze castings from the plasters, and exhibitions of the bronzes will begin in Europe this November. Mr. Maibaum is currently writing a book on the discovery, DEGAS: Sculptures Uncovered-History Revealed which will be published in the spring of 2010.

Mr. Maibaum generously proposed that Deba Gray bring the sculpture to New York so that he and his colleague could examine the bronze side by side with another bronze which was known to be authentic. Much to her surprise, he told her that his colleague is Mrs. Clare Vincent, curator of European Sculpture at Metropolitan Museum of Art who has overseen the Degas bronzes in the museum’s collection for over 40 years. Ms. Gray was even happier to learn that he was able to arrange a side by side comparison of Gray’s bronze with the bronze in the Metropolitan’s collection. A few weeks later Ms. Gray brought the bronze to New York and the two experts made the comparison together. They consulted amongst themselves and agreed the bronze appeared to be an authentic cast made by the Hebrard foundry. Ms. Gray and her consigner were thrilled.

Now that the mystery was solved, another question remained- what is it worth? In November of 2008, Sotheby’s auctioned off a Le Tub bronze in perfect condition for $ 3,778,500.00. Gray’s will be offering this Le Tub bronze for $30,000 to $50,000 on November 14th at its 25th Fine Arts and Antique Auction.

I received an email this morning from Italian sculptor Fabio Viale regarding my post Will a Rock Float?. I updated the post with his reply. He expressed a bit of concern with my subjective classification of his art as Decorative Art. I guess that means his is definitely Fine Art Design, although he didn’t elaborate further. My thought was since this piece had a functional use it must be Decorative Art. My apologies Fabio, we adore and will continue to admire your talent whatever it’s formal classification.

On the other hand, he did peruse my blog and expressed appreciation in being featured along side of my Sexy Monday posts. Thank you Fabio, for your considerate reply and your keen eye for sexy! You can read his reply on the updated original post. See more of his art here. Of course it’s Fine Art, what was I thinking?
