Ich hätte mit allem gerechnet, jedoch nie mit einer Fortsetzung des Kultstreifens Donnie Darko. Der Film dessen Handlung sicherlich von jedem Zuschauer anderes interpretiert wird, zeichnet sich genau aus diesem Grund zu etwas besonderem aus. Foren überschlugen sich mit den wüstesten Thesen über den Sinn und zu nicht beantworteten Fragen des Films. Dass ein zweiter Teil, vor allem da das gesamte Team ausgetauscht wurde, kaum funktionieren konnte, war von vornherein klar. Dennoch ist man natürlich auf solch eine Fortsetzung gespannt…

Die Geschichte von s.Darko spielt sieben Jahre nach Donnies mysteriösen Tod durch den Aufprall einer Flugzeugturbine. Seine Schwester Samantha, welche versucht ihre Albträume zu bewältigen, befindet sich auf einem Roadtrip mit ihrer besten Freundin. Allmorgendlich findet sie sich aufgrund von Schlafwandeln an einem anderen Ort in dem kleinen Kaff, in dem sie sich niedergelassen haben, wieder. Die Gegend ist äußerst seltsam. Sie begegnet dort einem verstörten Kriegsveteran und es verschwinden Kinder. In ähnlicher Machart wie im Original soll das Leben auf der Erde in ein paar Tagen vorbei sein. Backflashs, Zeitsprünge und einer ganze Menge Kurioses findet statt.
Visuell wird einiges geboten. Geniale Einstellungen werden, wie schon in Donnie Darko, mit der passenden Musik in Verbindung gebracht. Die Hauptdarstellerin verkörpert ihre Sache eigentlich ganz gut, hier kann man nicht meckern. Das Problem von s.Darko ist allerdings die Gradlinigkeit und wie offen mit dem Thema Zeitreise umgegangen wird. Die Erzählweise nimmt einfach zu viel voraus und versucht sich zu oft zu erklären. Vieles muss man einfach nicht wissen, Interpretation erfüllte das Erstlingswerk und gab ihm seine mystische Stimmung.
Hier liegen auch schon die größten Schwächen von s.Darko an seinem Vorgänger gemessen. Hätte der Film einen eigenständigen Titel könnte man ihn sicherlich entspannter betrachten.

s.Darko ist ein gar nicht mal so schlechter Streifen, fungiert als Fortsetzung meiner Meinung nach jedoch nur kaum.

Hmmm.. not sure if this is dumb or not yet. Probably dumb.

Ah! Spring! I’m hoping that this week warms up a bit.. because it was so pretty last week. And then the weekend brought snow flurries! Such a change. I’m not liking the winter-ish weather we have going on.
But, Art Walk was actually fun, surprisingly enough. It seems to be a drag after you go every single month, but this time, I’m with Colby: we met a ton of awesome people and acquired some new friends. It was cool. Hopefully next month will be even better :]

As for other things:
I’ve been journaling a TON lately. It’s such a creative release for me. I get all my thoughts (frustrations) out there, and I doodle and color in it; It’s a lot of fun. I’ll show some pages of it tomorrow, I think.
I’ve also started a new journal, that has a theme to it. It’s sort of a list journal. Like, certain pages are dedicated to what I need to get done that week, things I like about me, things I like about my best friend, my favorite music at the moment, etc. This journal is SO much fun. I’ll share some of that later, too :]

Also:
I’m currently reading A Clockwork Orange. It is one of the most confusing, intense books I’ve ever read. It is set in a nightmare of the future, where a 15 year old runs about town, beating up old people and raping unsuspecting women. It’s a future where criminals rule the night. It is absolutely terrifying; it’s even more terrifying as a film. Stanley Kubrick did an outstanding job getting the full effect of it all across. I’m so excited to continue reading this! Ah!
Ooohh.. One more thing:
s.Darko comes out in a few weeks!

I am SO excited to see this. Donnie Darko will forever be one of the most amazing, haunting movies of my life. I swear.

Zur meist recht kritisch erwarteten Fortsetzung des Kultstreifens Donnie Darko gibt es endlich die ersten bewegten Bilder.

Der Trailer sieht von der Optik nicht schlecht aus. Allerdings bin ich mir fast sicher das der Film nicht mit dem „Original“ nicht mithalten kann.
Weitere Kritik möchte ich mir an dieser Stelle sparen bis ich S.Darko gesehen habe.

Der Film startet Ende April in den USA nur in ausgewählten Kinos und kommt gleich auf DVD.

Entertainment Weekly has posted a list of the top twenty-five greatest active directors. The list is as debatable as the day is long so argue away at some of the inclusions (Jon Favreau?).

Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln biopic, a long-time passion project, is struggling to find financing amid the current recession environment. Even the biggest names are starting to be hit by the problems facing the wider industry. When even the marquee names are finding it difficult, it is worrying. But perhaps this will foster a necessity to make movies cheaper and maybe we will see some really vital, interesting filmmaking be born from the downturn.

High School Musical alum Vanessa Hudgens has been strongly linked to the part of Nara Kilday in an adaptation of Josh Howard’s Dead@17 comic series, being written by Mike Dougherty. The story follows Nara, a girl who is killed and reborn to fight demons. Howard made the announcement during an interview on the Comics on Comics podcast (highly recommended). Could prove an interesting career move for Hudgens as she seems to be looking to eschew Zac Efron’s move into teen movies by taking what Cinematical calls the ‘Megan Fox route’.

Robert Rodriguez has signed up to write and direct Nerverackers, a futuristic thriller following an elite unit in 2085 dispatched to deal with a crime wave in a purportedly perfect society. Demolition Man, anyone?

Ridley Scott has swerved directions a bit on his Robin Hood revisionist take, essentially deleting the ‘revisionist’ portion of the description to adopt a more traditional style of telling the story. Instead, according to an interview given to MTV, Scott will have the story follow the ‘evolution of a character called Robin Hood, who will come out of a point in the Crusades which is the end‘. It does mean that the previously mentioned choice of having Russell Crowe play both Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham has been either abandoned or was never really a set option. Scott said to MTV: ‘[Crowe as both Robin and the Sheriff of Nottingham] was an idea so far back, way back when at the time I had this proposed to me, and I read it and thought, ‘I don’t really know what it does for it, but it’s alright’.’ Make of that what you will, but it seems that this will end up just another very well made if somewhat uninteresting picture from Scott, maybe barring Monopoly.

Corona Coming Attractions has posted a casting call for Thor, the Marvel adaptation upcoming from the directorial hand of Kenneth Branagh. Check out the posting and consider whether you could pull off such a role: ‘Physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild. A natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severely humbled before becoming the compassionate, mature hero of our film.’

Geoff Gilmore, the long-standing director of the Sundance Film Festival, is to leave his post to become the chief creative officer of Tribeca Enterprises. He is also joining the board of the company and will take responsibility for ‘global content strategy and lead creative development initiatives and expansion of the brand’, according to a statement published by indieWIRE. Karina Longworth on Spout points out the move in in line with wider announced strategy for Tribeca which is aiming to bring itself closer in line with Sundance as prestige indie festival.

Ang Lee is in talks to direct an adaptation of Yann Martel’s Life of Pi, the Booker Prize-winning novel about a young man who survives an accident at sea and ends up sharing a boat with a hyena, zebra, orangutan and a Bengal tiger. The project had been considered by a pre-Happening Shyamalan (who was reportedly replaced by Alfonso Cuaron) and most recently was under the eye of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the director of Delicatessan and Amelie.

Also in the news, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is keeping up the comic love to star in The Losers; Pride and Prejudice is set to meet the zombie world in an offbeat adaptation produced by Elton John; the Donnie Darko sequel is going straight to DVD; Linda Hamilton is in talks to take a role in Terminator Salvation; Mickey Rourke will not star in Iron Man 2; Breckin Meyer is penning Superguys, to be helmed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, described as ‘‘Ocean’s 11′ with idiots set at Comic-Con.’.

Neither of us had paid much attention to The Southland Tales when it came out.

So we added it to our Netflix instant viewing list, and sat down to watch it.
We read that it was Richard Kelly’s work (remember Donnie Darko), so that totally had both of us eager to view it.
All we can both say at the moment is “WOW!”

La Berkeley, ora 36enne, è praticamente scomparsa da Hollywood dopo il floppone di Showgirls di Paul Verhoeven.

Uscito nel 1995, distrutto dalla critica, il film ottenne appena 20 milioni di dollari negli Usa, dopo esserne costati 45, e la carriera della Berkeley, che veniva dal successo tv di Bayside School, affogò prima di cominciare a nuotare. Riuscirà a riprendersi grazie a Donnie Darko 2? Non ci resta che aspettare…

che tristezza ragazzi!

S. Darko: tutti ci siamo chiesti cosa stesse a significare il titolo, e ci siamo chiesti se davvero si sentisse il bisogno di un sequel del cult Donnie Darko. Ecco chiarito il mistero: S. sta per Samantha, la sorella minore di Donnie interpretata da Daviegh Chase. Il sequel avrà proprio lei come protagonista.

La storia sarà ambientata sette anni dopo il primo film. Samantha e l’amica Corey hanno ormai 18 anni e decidono di fare un viaggio a Los Angeles. Entrambe inizieranno ad avere delle allucinazioni… Donnie non ci sarà nel film, ma ci saranno meteoriti e conigli…! Il regista Chris Fisher spera di poter ricreare un mondo simile a quello del film di Richard Kelly, di cui è un fan, con lo stesso mix di fantasia e realtà.

Altri componenti sicuri del cast sono Ed Westwick, Briana Evigan e Justin Chatwin. Il budget di S. Darko è stimato attorno ai 10 milioni di euro, e l’operazione di marketing da parte della produzione inizierà in occasione del Festival di Cannes, con la sicurezza che la Fox ha già acquistato il sequel e lo distribuirà negli USA.

Su IMDB non risulta, ma girano voci che Alex farà parte del cast del sequel di Donnie Darko, S.Darko. Attualmente nessuna conferma da parte dell’interessato o del suo manager. Il film dovrebbe uscire nelle sale nel 2009.

Donnie ist ein fast ganz normaler Teenager – bis auf die Tatsache, dass er Visionen von einem Typen im Hasenkostüm hat, der ihm den genauen Zeitpunkt des Weltuntergangs prophezeit. Während einer nächtlichen Vision, verbunden mit Schlafwandeln, rettet ihm dieser Hase sein Leben, da währenddessen eine Flugzeugturbine in sein Zimmer kracht…
Im weiteren Verlauf geht es um Schicksal, Zeitreisen und Coming of Age – oder anders ausgerückt:
“Jeder Versuch, den Inhalt von Donnie Darko auf eine nachvollziehbare Essenz zu komprimieren, um einen ersten Eindruck des Filmes zu vermitteln, muss zwangsläufig scheitern.” (moviemaze.de)

Wie Recht der Autor des obigen Zitats doch hat – ich glaube eine einfache Lösung, was der Film aussagen will, gibt es nicht, kann man doch die einzelnen Storyelemente vielfältig auslegen. Am einprägsamsten ist sicherlich die Storyline über die Zeitreisen, zieht sie sich doch durch den gesamten Film und scheint letztendlich der Schlüssel zu Donnies Erlösung zu sein.

“Und was wäre, wenn du in die Vergangenheit reisen und alle schmerzhaften und dunklen Stunden durch etwas Besseres ersetzen könntest?”

An einer Interpretation des Films haben sich schon ganz andere versucht – für vollstes Verständnis sollte man ihn wahrscheinlich 20x gesehen haben und dazu noch “Philosophie des Zeitreisens“, das im Film erwähnte, fiktionale Buch auswendig kennen. Eine interessante, wenn auch nicht ganz einfache Interpretation findet Ihr hier.

“Donnie Darko” lässt einen nach Filmende noch lange nachdenklich zurück. Einfach alles passt in diesem Film. Die Musikuntermalung fängt die Stimmung des Films gut ein, der Mix aus Fantasy, Komödie und Drama funktioniert und die Story ist zwar irgendwie in sich schlüssig, irgendwie aber auch nicht und manche Geschehnisse machen erst im Nachhinein Sinn.

„Donnie Darko“ ist ein interessanter, verstörender und auslegungsbedürftiger Film, der nur demjenigen zusagen wird, der dazu bereit ist, selbst die Puzzelstücke der Story zusammenzusuchen und sie immer wieder neu zusammenzulegen. (Filmstarts.de)

Ich hoffe, dass ich erleichtert aufatmen kann,
wenn das Ende der Welt gekommen ist, denn
es gibt so Vieles, auf das man sich freuen kann.

Es wird einen zweiten Teil dieses grandiosen Films geben, der eigentlich nur schlechter sein kann, genannt wird dieses Werk dann s.Darko.
Es geht um Samantha, Donnies Schwester, die während eines Road-Trips Visionen bekommt. Herzlichen Glückwunsch, denk ich mir da, und das sollte man lieber lassen, doch es ist zu spät. Sonntag beginnen angeblich die Dreharbeiten. Und ein Poster (das sieht zwar ziemlich gefaked aus, hm, egal) gibt es auch schon. Hier.
Daveigh Chase spielt Donnies Schwester, aber sonst wird wohl keiner aus dem ersten Teil mitmachen. Das Budget ist mit Millionen Dollar doppelt so hoch wie beim Vorgänger, aber: “Donnie’s not in [the new film] but there are meteorites and rabbits.” .

Frank Says This Is Just A Dumb Idea

I loved Donnie Darko. It’s a classic. But of course someone wants to come along and screw with perfection.

Plot: The sequel follows Donnie’s younger sister, Samantha Darko, a role reprised by Daviegh Chase (of such direct to dvd classics as Beethoven’s 5th: Big Paw and the animated Stich! The Movie). The story picks up seven years after the first film and Donnie’s death when his now 18-year-old sister Samantha and her best friend Corey go on a roadtrip to Los Angeles, where along the way they are plagued by bizarre visions. And if that doesn’t sound bad enough, guess what they’re calling it? Donnie Darko 2? Nope. S. Darko! What? They couldn’t even call it Samantha Darko?

Ugghhhhh!
