If Nuance gets its way with the just announced ‘Voice Ads’ mobile advertising platform,

If Nuance gets its way with the just announced ‘Voice Ads’ mobile advertising platform, soon every mobile ad could include Siri-like functionality that lets you communicate with and ask questions about the product being advertised.

Nuance, the company behind the voice recognition module now used in Apple’s Siri, today announced a new project to bring its voice recognition technology to the mobile advertising world. The basic concept of the new platform, which Nuance made available through an SDK for advertising companies, is to bring a two-way, interactive conversation to mobile ads. As highlighted by Nuance in the video above, ads that implement the Voice Ads platform will allow users to engage in a Siri-like conversation with an advertisement:

Nuance Voice Ads gives mobile advertisers and creative agencies an opportunity to go beyond the limitations of the four-inch mobile device screen and create a conversation with consumers through the power of voice recognition. Voice Ads finally creates an opportunity for brands to deepen the relationship with their consumers, with targeted interactive ads that deeply engage their core audience – much in the way that the world’s most popular mobile personal assistants have deepened consumers’ relationship with their mobile phones.

In the demo above, Nuance shows an advertisement for a fictional deodorant brand that uses a magic 8-ball theme to answer any question that users might have. The ad of course ends in a pitch for the product in question, as you might expect. Other ads could allow users to ask specific questions about a product’s release date or specs…

Nuance said that it partnered with a number of ad agencies and mobile advertising companies to create ads using the platform, some which include: Digitas, OMD, and Leo Burnett. Nuance also has plans to distribute the ads to over “100,000 app publishers and hundreds of millions of consumers” through partnerships with mobile ad companies Millennial Media, Jumptap and Opera Mediaworks (AdMarvel, Mobile Theory, and 4th Screen).

For those interested in implementing Voice Ads into their mobile ads, Nuance explained developers would only require basic JavaScript knowledge to take advantage of the platform using simplified API libraries. It will first have a long way to go in convincing app developers and mobile advertising networks that displaying ads with voice will provide a benefit to both the user and advertiser.

To learn more about Nuance Voice Ads and sign up to become part of the program, you can visit Nuance’s Voice Ads website.

public static MobileServiceClient MobileService = new MobileServiceClient(
“URL”,
“ApplicationKey”
);

Saludos.

Hello, if you want to integrate the Login button from Facebook in your Android application you can follow the next steps. (these are also very useful if you are a beginner).

0) First of all I recommend to use Android SDK package ( http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html ). It has all you need to start creating Android app using the Android SDK and the Eclispe IDE.

Much of the tutorials are referring to this pack. All you need to do is to download the zip file (archive) and to unpack it and you are ready to start standard Android App, without the need to install anything else.

Eclipse IDE ( cross platform and you will find lots of information about how to configure it).

1) You first need to register a Facebook account as a developer account. You can find details here: https://developers.facebook.com/

on you developer page in Facebook you will find more info how to do these

2) Use the explanations on these pages to configure your environment. You will find how to setup your Facebook account and how to make you firs Login app.

https://developers.facebook.com/docs/getting-started/facebook-sdk-for-android/3.0/

- read those steps and take a closer look at Step 6 to make sure everything works, before you go to something more complicated.

in addition you might find these site useful – lots of beginner tutorials http://www.androidhive.info/2012/03/android-facebook-connect-tutorial/

for openssl for Windows you can try these: https://code.google.com/p/openssl-for-windows/

Hope these will help you!

Hey bloggers, nice to meet you again

Now I’ll give you my story about my new experience, yes absolutely you can guess what I’ve done from the tittle of this post.

Okay I’ll share you a little of my story, a few days ago me and my agent has got a demand to make an android application. It’s only given for 5 days to finish it, and then we must face our boss to present our application.

We’re so stressed and confused, but it didn’t make us to surrender. So we’re tried so hard to focus searched some reference and learned how to make a simple android application that can access a local data.

We start it with search and find some inspiration for our first android application. Then I’ve got a concept for our android application, that is makes a gallery boutique application, and my agent was agreed with my concept.

We’re agreed to decide our task. I was trusted by my agent to build and make the program, and I requested my agent to make the user guide of this application and power point for our presentation.

In the middle of my attempt to make this program, I was surrender. I apologize to my agent because I think I can’t finish it. But my agent still believing in me that I can finish it and my agent have a dream that our application will be the best if we can do our best.

Some positive energy has come into myself, I saw my agent almost finished her task, even though the program is not ready. So, I began to dream that I could finish the application. And another enlightenment has come to us, my agent remembers that she has a friend who has good skill in Java programing, and she was sure that he is can help me to finish this project.

In the end, we met up with him and we build this android application together using Eclipse in Java programming. Do you know? I start it just in 2 days before the dead line. It was give me some pressure, but I tried to be relaxed in finish this application.

Okee, enough for the story, now I start to told you about this android application. I used Eclipse for the software that using Java programming. In this application, I need to build 12 CLASS of Java, and 6 android XML.

Look at this picture, this is my first page interface of my boutique gallery application.

In XML, I built it with background layout, 1 text view, and 2 buttons. In the class, I give the “toast message”, that is “Welcome to The Gallery Boutique”, and 2 branches for “view gallery” button, and “exit” button.

For the main page, I’ll give you full source code below.

A Word on Game Engines Games…Thousands of people are addicted to them, millions love them and

A Word on Game Engines

Games…Thousands of people are addicted to them, millions love them and there are hundreds of titles released every year; but what if you are one of those people who are driven to make one? Hopefully, we can shed some light on that very subject.

Commercial or not?

We really suggest that you get ahold of an engine (for non-commercial use) and start learning the program. As always, the question that keeps coming up is “where do I get one and which one do I get”? Everybody has their own opinion, but I will lay this out (in referring to the “active three”) in the most logical sense.

If you are completely new to the idea of creating your own game, I would honestly suggest going with Unity 3d; (I am sure there are more engines out there (like the Blender GE), but we are not familiar with them). The reason I say this is mainly due to the fact that it will directly take .FBX files, the user profile isn’t too horrible and it uses JavaScript and C# scripting (compared to Uscript (Unrealscript) or C++/LUA (CryEngine). Once you get use to creating assets, programming and flow charts you can jump into either the CryEngine or Unreal.

All three of these engines are free for non-commercial use (and I believe) they are available for pc and Mac. Downside is (and keep in mind) you may only be able to produce games for PC or Mac. Typically PS3, 360 and Wii based games require a commercial license.

3d Model Info

Another thing to keep in mind is the sizes and complexity of your models. Large models with a ton of polygons can slow engines down to a crawl. You will have to either perform a reduction, clearEdges, shrink wrapping or (preferably) just create low poly models.

Most of the time, you’ll have to keep in mind, engines will perform their own tessellation on models. So, for example, let’s say that you have a model that has 9,000 polys; you perform a clearEdges function in Maya and manage to drop the poly count down to around 1,000 polys; after taking it into your engine, don’t be surprised if it actually counts upwards of 3,000 polys or more inside the engine.

Graphics and add ons

Although I cannot say a lot about Unreal’s UDK; I have heard a lot about the comparable graphics between UDK and CryEngine. Now I will say as far as Unity 3d, it’s graphics are not the greatest.

With the UDK and Unity (I believe) you will have to download either Havok, Physx or Apex for physics mods (such as ragdoll, destructible models and heavy clothing effects.

CryEngine does have imbedded physics but Apex is a good download to get. So is the Nvidia DDS plugin for Photoshop; CryEngine does use its own Tif plugin that comes with the UDK download.

Although, as far as I know, Apex cannot be directly imported into CryEngine (at this time) and I am not sure about the other easily available engines; but I personally feel that it is a program that should be obtained and experimented with.

For those who are interested in possible (time saving techniques), you can research Autodesk’s 123d Catch which is a ‘emulated’ 3d scanner. It basically uses Autodesk’s Cloud to create 3d models based on several (strategically shot) reference photos. Although I wouldn’t suggest using this method in order to substitute ‘hands on’ modeling creation, you can use it for instances that may be beyond certain capabilities (such as accurate (or true to scale) objects such as weapons, contoured pieces or possibly even faces of people). Please keep in mind though, this is definitely not a platform for motion capture, only for model creation.

As far motion capture platforms (or mocap), that will have to be a discussion for another posting since we have yet to dabble in that field.

Output

As far as “non-commercial” output from engines such as CryEngine and Unity; once you have your game finished, you will be looking to output your game to others. I mean that’s the whole point right? With your non-commercial game, in order for others to play them, they would also need to either download the game’s SDK package or plugins. For those out there that wish to output an executable package (just like the games that we buy from the store or online), you have to get into a form of commercial tier. Unity’s output is a bit different because it only requires plugins, but is fairly cheap for their pro engine (about $300). Other engines such as Unreal and CryEngine may have a price tag that looks extremely frightening to the independent artists out there, but there may be a much more enlightening option for those artists in near future.

For example, CryTek is planning on offering a royalty based commercial option for independent artists and micro-companies. This option basically waives the expensive initial purchase price of the engine itself and only charges a 20% royalty fee on every unit sold.

At the time this is being written, I am unsure if the other engines and their respective companies offer a tier or platform such as this.

Moreover

Game development is a very time consuming and tedious task and you will have to keep this in mind and think about this before seriously attempting to take it on. Although it can be taken on by one person, it is honestly not suggested. Get out there and collaborate with others; come up with an interesting concept and branch from there. You’ll want to keep track of (and notes) on everything…no matter how small it seems. Our new project for example is still in the pre-production phase; we have our script & story line laid out, our “bible” being compiled and some of our assets being created. Just a small chunk out of the long road ahead.

The SDK’s technical documents, demo application, and smart card and reader tool offer Chinese language support, in addition to English.

“More and more countries are embracing smart card technology,” says Gilbert Leung, vice president for sales and marketing of ACS. “China, specifically, released a remarkable number of smart cards for use in banking, transport, and other areas. In connection to this, and to the increasing prevalence of the Chinese language globally, we have decided to incorporate Chinese language support for this SDK.”

The 2011–2015 plan of China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS) states that China’s government has issued around 450 million integrated circuit (IC) cards and is expected to issue around eight million more by 2015, just for banking.

I’ve been waiting for this moment ever since I received my development unit. It’s not that I couldn’t use Windows, I was running it originally, I just chose to move away from it. I have tested the limits of the device in processing raw motion data thoroughly, now it’s time to play around with that power. It is only available for Ubuntu for now but hopefully support will become more distro agnostic. In the meantime I’ll try running the sdk via Alien, my crappy internet connection is making this a very long but eager wait! Everything below the banner is from the newsletter that detailed the updates the new SDK brings.

SDK 0.7.6 released with Linux support, new finger tracking

The latest version of the SDK was released last night with some great new features:

Beta release of the Leap Linux SDK for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 12.10, or newer. It’s early, but we’d love your feedback and support in bringing our software to this important platform.

New finger tracking, which handles a greater variety of finger orientations and positions (such as parallel to the Leap device). This allows for more stable finger tracking across a wider range of movement, especially for thumbs.

New screen projection functions, which provide perpendicular projection onto located screens (press “B” twice to see in Visualizer).

Device standby mode will now automatically engage after non-use for 5 minutes. Device will re-engage within 1 second of seeing a hand. In the future this will be configurable and much quicker to resume.

New settings to enable/disable WebSocket connections and to adjust device frame-rate and range sensitivity (this will help with people who are encountering some environmental interference with their device).

Expanded documentation: complete references for Java API, Objective-C API, preliminary API references for Python and C#/Unity.

Bug fixes including NaN values in JSON data sent to JavaScript clients and CircleGesture::duration.

New device firmware to improve robustness of firmware updates.

We’ll be improving the build over time, and we’d love to hear your thoughts on the latest SDK thread.

Online publishers are fighting a technological war in which they are outgunned and undermanned. Thei

Online publishers are fighting a technological war in which they are outgunned and undermanned. Their opponent in this war is the plethora of highly engaging, real time social platforms that consume consumers’ time and dictate their expectation of a modern Web experience. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Tumblr continue to raise the standard which old and new media companies alike must meet to capture and retain the attention of their audience.

Although it’s largely unknown to consumers and developers, Echo has been arming major publishers with real time social tools for nearly five years. Its clients include ABC, AMC Networks, ESPN, NBC News, NASDAQ, Sony, The Washington Post, Universal Music Group, and WWE, in addition to independent software vendors like Chute, Realtidbits, IdeaMelt, StreamSentiment, and DiscussIT.

Having launched what it claims were the first ever Javascript commenting app, the first real time commenting system, the first social login feature, and the first real time Web app ecosystem, Echo’s APIs are now called more than 30 billion times each month, and the company serves more than 1.5 billion monthly pageviews.

Today, Echo is taking the first major step in courting third-party developers to its ecosystem by launching a JavaScript SDK to aid in the development and deployment of apps on its platform, JS SDK 3.0. The development toolset solves a number of key challenges in building real-time apps, while reducing the cost and time required dramatically. Echo’s hope is that developers will use its platform to build the next generation of mobile and desktop Web commenting, forums, news feeds, social TV, media galleries, location services, and publishing platforms.

“It turns out that each one of these apps is interesting and important on its own, but what’s more interesting is how they interoperate and create a seamless experience,” Echo co-founder and chief strategy officer Chris Saad says. “We’re looking at the whole problem. When you’re asking, ‘How do I catch up with and keep up with Facebook, Twitter, and the like?’ it takes a whole app marketplace. If you just install one random commenting system, that’s not going to change anything.”

The new SDK includes simplified client side access to server-side APIs, a graphical user interface (GUI) library based on Twitter Bootstrap to ensure consistent look and feel between apps, core user interface (UI) controls enabling common interaction patterns across apps, a component manifest to ensure app interoperability and plugin extensibility, and Echo Loader which simplifies dependency loading to reduce script conflicts and redundancies.

To be clear, both independent Web developers and digital publishers can build this real time social functionality themselves, but the fact is, they shouldn’t have to. Doing so effectively requires scaling up hadoop databases and writing complicated Javascript, which can require millions of dollars and dozens of engineers – resources that could be better allocated elsewhere.

“Wasted time is our main competitor,” Saad says.

For developers, use of the new API also means access to an ecosystem of clients like ESPN which can radically elevate a young business. For publishers, Echo provides a rich app ecosystem that places their consumption experience on par with the best of the social Web.

“Publishers are really interested in answering, ‘How do I reclaim time spent from Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest?’ And ‘How can Echo help us keep up with the state of the art?’” Saad says. “It’s in their best interest that we have lots of great apps.”

All existing apps in the Echo marketplace will begin transitioning to the new SDK immediately, with Realtidbits Comments being the first to do so with its release of version 3.0 today, featuring a new skin, several new features, and support for the JS SDK 3.0 plugin and app architecture.

As far as attracting new development talent to the ecosystem, Saad seems content to let Echo’s premium enterprise clients do the talking. “We think that if there’s a big marketplace of ‘powered by Echo’ enterprises, there’s a natural pull to want to develop for them. We’ve done a pretty poor job of communicating to developers thus far, but you’ll see more of this going forward.”

Founded in late 2007, Echo has grown to 50 employees across San Francisco, Atlanta, and Russia. The company has raised just $4.8 million to date, with the last round coming in 2008 from Altos Ventures and The Entrepreneurs’ Fund III.

“We’re not talking about fundraising at the moment – it’s a very healthy, very real business, which is astounding for this space and this cycle,” Saad says. “There’s real revenue here. We charge actual enterprise class money to solve enterprise class problems. We’re their partner in keeping up with the state of the art.”

There are other real time social APIs in the marketplace, including Firebase which just launched its mobile SDK last week, KickApps, and MassRelevance. And developers in the Echo ecosystem faces their own challengers on a vertical by vertical basis, including notably Livefyre and Disqus in the commenting space. But where Echo excels is in its comprehensive ecosystem of tools.

Echo offers publishers the building blocks required to easily assemble a modern, social site. In the publisher world, they’re already widely known and used by many of the biggest and best. The company’s biggest challenge is to duplicate this level of awareness among developers and to a lesser extent consumers.

As Saad says, “You have probably used Echo many times and had no idea.”

In this post we will be talking about how to install ADT on you Linux/Windows Box.
I will be covering all the steps you need to take in order to get your pc ready for Android development.

“

The ADT Bundle provides everything you need to start developing apps, including a version of the Eclipse IDE with built-in ADT (Android Developer Tools) to streamline your Android app development. If you haven’t already, go download http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

Install the SDK and Eclipse IDE

Unpack the ZIP file (named
adt-bundle-<os_platform>.zip
) and save it to an appropriate location, such as a “Development” directory in your home directory.

Open the
adt-bundle-<os_platform>/eclipse/
directory and launch eclipse.

The more consumers use the mobile apps of leading tech companies like Facebook and Google, the more

The more consumers use the mobile apps of leading tech companies like Facebook and Google, the more they expect the same realtime synchronization and notification functionality out of every service they use. It’s no longer satisfying to “pull to refresh,” when we’ve seen the light of instant, and passive synchronization. The problem is, this is an incredibly challenging and resource intensive problem to solve. So much so, that it’s out of the realm of possibilities for most developers.

Today, Firebase hopes to change this with the launch of a mobile SDK bringing its scalable realtime backend platform to iOS. In other words, the company can offload the major engineering challenges to allow resource-constrained developers to build rich Web-like experiences for mobile, keeping users engaged and delivering updates as they occur. Firebase can also simplify the development process and in many cases can be used as a complete backend, meaning developers can skip the hassle and expense of running their own servers.

Based on the traction of its Javascript-based Web product, including with companies like Atlassian, BitTorrent, Pivotal Labs, and eToro, it’s fair to assume the new mobile product will be popular in the gaming, social, and communications categories. The iOS SDK is already in use by collaborative reading app Kindoma, alternative PC input platform GemPad, and silent disco synchronization platform DiscoSync.

In an effort to demonstrate its technology, Firebase did something so obvious, I’m surprised I haven’t seen it used before: It created a standalone sample app and open sourced the code. SF Live Bus is a Firebase-powered iOS app that displays a realtime view of the location of every bus in San Francisco. The team created the entire app with 30 lines of unique code, 12 lines of Firebase code, plus standard iOS boilerplate. The team also created a simple sample chat example.

The hope is that when other developers see the power of the app relative to the simplicity of the code, they’ll be dying to use the Firebase iOS SDK. And if someone were to duplicate the app for New York or London, co-founder James Tamplin would be almost as thrilled.

The company is still finalizing its pricing structure, although it will likely revolve around a fee per gigabyte of storage and per gigabyte of bandwidth – similar to that of Amazon Web Services (AWS).

“Pricing the service has been the second hardest thing behind actually building it,” Tamplin says.

The iOS product, which joins the company’s existing Javascript-based Web offering, is a precursor to more things to come, according to the founder. “Our goal is to provide access from anywhere, on any platform, in any language,” he says. Expect to see support for new platforms and new ways to access data soon.

“There is a macro trend taking place where people are utilizing multiple devices and they expect the same experience across them,” Tamplin says. “There’s nothing more frustrating than not receiving an important notification, or more jarring than having message read-unread status not sync across devices.”

Firebase launched in April 2012 after completing Y Combinator in 2011. The company has since raised $1.4 million from Greylock, NEA, Flybridge, and several angel investors, including Cloudera CTO Amr Awadallah. Interestingly, much of the company’s development has been funded by the cashflow of its predecessor, envolve.com, which powers “Facebooks-style chat” for over 100,000 websites and runs profitably on auto-pilot.

Current Firebase competitors include ShareJS, which requires a server, and the developer version of iCloud which leaves a lot to be desired. Early feedback from beta customers and those demoing the product at hackathons has Tamplin and his team confident that they’ve built the most powerful realtime synchronization API available today.

Until it’s in the hands of thousands of critical developers quick to vote with their wallets, talk like this can only get the company so far. But an early preview of the SF Live Bus app and other early adopters suggests that the company’s enthusiasm may be justified. If so, it’s not just developers, but consumers, that should be thanking them.
