Here is a list of free stuff on the web.  I can say that I’ve used it all and it works very well for the most part.  I hope this helps some people out.  I always have people asking me for the websites to some of the things I use to fix spyware and all kinds of other stuff.  If you have any suggestions for free stuff please let me know.

1. Idrive.com allows you to backup your data from your computer on their servers.  You can get 10 gigs of data for free to backup your files.  If you want to pay you can get I think 100 gigs for 50 dollars a year. .
2. freeconferencecall.com.  It allows you to host a conference call with I believe up to 96 people.  Don’t quote me on that.  But it beats paying eight cents per minute per person for a conference call with AT&T
3. http://magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ have you ever needed to find your windows or office key.  Well there you go.  This finds it for you.
4. mint.com. Use at your own risk. You plug in your financial info and it tells you where all your money is going
5. http://www.safer-networking.org .  This saves your computer when you’ve been looking at porn and get spy ware on your machine.  I think a lot of people know about this product by now. 
6. Hijack this is another good free tool for getting rid of spyware http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html
7. AVG virus scan.  If you don’t want to pay get some basic protection http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition
8. Searchme.com is a cool search engine that I found.  It’s really cool app for the iphone
9. For all the cool things coming out http://www.engadget.com

SearchMe.com currently allows you to perform page search, image search, video search, music search, news search and shopping search  using the Apple iTunes Stack metaphor.

SearchMe.com also lets you create custom stacks.

I would like to be able to place a SearchMe style page image as a link in a Prezi.com presentation as well.

The thing I would like to see in SearchMe is the following by going into cooperation with Google:

• Visual Queries by submitting submitting video  bytes bigits.
• Aural Queries by submitting audio rates rigits.
• Nasal Queries by submitting nadio dates tigits.
• Tactal Queries by submitting tadio numbers ligits.
• Mental Queries by submitting medio text digits.
• Factual Queries by submitting ideo states figits.

All of the above queries can be supported by selecting the media object on the current wepage, then using the sites categories and tags for the object as search criteria.

So it’s that time of year. Yes the lists are rolling out and the top 10s are all the talk. And, as the Waterfold Crystal ball begins to drop in Times Square this year, we will all witness a sea of lists. 

Now I’m not poking fun at list makers, I am one myself. My lists have lists. 1) Have you Hulued?

If you haven’t traveled to www.Hulu.com, you have been missing the boat. No it’s not a Hawaiian vacation planning site, it a site jam-packed with full-length TV episodes, movies, movie trailors and anything you can think of that might be entertaining to watch while the boss is still out on vacation.

2) Moooooooo Mania 

“Moo”ve over traditional business cards, this site is a great place to create and print unique business cards that will stand out in the crowd. Select from pre-designed templates, or create your own card with photography or graphic creations of your own. It’s a fantastic way to create one-of-a-kind cards that turn heads. Check out www.moo.com .

3) Are you feeling Wiki?

Check out www.wikitravel.com! I love to travel and this is the place to go to locate the most up-to-date travel guides around. And if you’re like me and a trip is not in the future (whimper) then you’ve got a great place to dream!

4) Got a Question? Search me!

I love www.searchme.com. If you have a question, they have an answer. Just type it in and wal’ la … a solution is at your finger tips. The best part about this website is that it presents all the searches in one, easy to use search format that is very similar to the iTunes Album flip through feature.

5) Just a cool website ….

Now I have to say www.tracychapman.com might be one of the coolest web designs I have seen this year. Music, visual intrigue and an unique presentation give this site a lot of sparkle. Even if you aren’t a fan of her music, Ms. Chapman’s website is a fun interactive experience.

Take a look for yourself. It’s a great way to see what the market is doing in the internet design/experience realm. What’s more, it helps pass the time while your boss is away. Enjoy!

If you are a visual learner like me then you are really going to love this new search engine. It is called Searchme.com and it is a visual search engine unlike anything I have seen – now before you write it off as some flash in the pan all glitz no glitter product, let me tell you it’s good. The interface is incredibly clean, fast and intuitive, the search results are good and I would assume get even better when it comes out of beta.

Try searchme.com once and I bet you will be hooked trying all kinds of different searches it really does make searching more fun. They have two of the coolest search engine features I have ever seen:

Searchme Stacks

Searchme Stacks extend visual search into the bookmark space and across the Web, allowing users to assemble collections of their favorite web pages in one place and easily share them in an elegant, viral way. To create Stacks such as “My Daily News Sites,” “Top Ten Videos,” “Web 2.0 Articles,” or “Summer Vacation Research,” users click on the “stacks” button at www.searchme.com, choose “new,” then drag and drop Searchme results pages into a custom Stack. Users can then click the “share” button and follow a few simple steps to send the Stack via email or post it to a blog, web site, Facebook® profile or MySpace.com® page. Searchme Media Search

Search Me is the coolest thing in search that I’ve seen in years. Taking its cue from the most recent versions of iTunes, it displays web pages as if they were record sleeves and then allows you to quickly flick through them as you would a rack of vinyl in a shop. This is so smart because it is an intuitive way to look for things, especially if you know what you are looking for but can’t quite remember where you last saw it. I think we are going to see a lot more of this “natural” form of search in the years to come.

There’s already the recently launched servic Zoomi:  a virtual shop that looks and behaves like a bookshop (you browse books held on a shelf). but is really just a front for Amazon. Great, if you genuinely want to browse.

Watch out Google.

Searchme: is a visual search engine, displaying whole pages of results a lot like the way album covers work in the iTunes cover flow. Pretty nice, check it out and be the first person on your block to use it.

Have you seen Searchme.com, yet? 

Well, it’s the latest search engine to hit the market, and it’s certain to make waves.  

It’s hard to speculate on exactly how it will affect the future of searching, so in an effort not to make up your mind for you, here’s my super simplistic Searchme review.

Basically, you type in your search term and it brings up a “visual result.”

Meaning, you’ll see actual webpage snapshots of the most relative sites for your search term, not just a description.  You can scroll through the results just like in the album view in iTunes.  Plus, the results page has a list of relative categories to help you further narrow down your search.

Once you’ve found the web site you want to go to you just click on the picture, and Searchme sends you directly to that site.

Now, you can have your cake and eat it too!

Searchme lets you split the browser page into two sections.  One for the visual results, and the other for your standard descriptive results.

I really like the feature that lets me roll my mouse over the visual result which pops up the descriptive result at the bottom, pretty much removing the need for the split section.  The font for the pop up is relatively small though (quite possibly too small), but I like having both options.

Webmasters, better have your game faces on.

It’s going to take the usual high quality content to get indexed by Searchme, but it’s also going to take asthetically appealing pages if you want to get the clicks.  This could mean a new boom in the search engine optimization market.

Nonetheless, I’m curious to see where this goes.

It’s in Beta testing right now.  If you hurry you might still be able to get in.

Wow! SearchMe.com is like Google, except its 3D! You search for anything you want and then you can browse through the results in the form of screenshots. It reminds me a bit of SpaceTime.com (which I think is very cool btw).

Before I actually used it, I thought that there was now way that I would use this thing on a day to day basis, but it actually is a really good way to search! The only gotcha is that their database isn’t as big as Google’s database Let’s hope they can get there fast

btw, searchme is a Sequoia backed company (so was Google).

The future of search might be changing, Searchme.com is using images of websites, rather than the traditional text based response that Google returns. At first, I was a little skeptical but after looking at the demo and taking personal biases away, I think they are on to something huge. As more and more boomers come online, and become comfortable with the internet, I think this will become their preferred method of searching. This would be right up my moms alley, and might even get my grandma to enjoy the internet.

Rather than relying on what Google tells them what the page is about, they will have the chance to see it. This will likely reduce their frustration of clicking on the wrong site and having to continue clicking on “blind” pages. The visual search results also have a text component returned as well at the bottom of the image. One issue they might face if this is successful is bandwidth, but bandwidth was issue a few years back with video and look where we are today.

Another interesting twist might be based on their algorithm for page or I guess “view” rank. Will they take images and designs into affect to make better looking sites with good images rank higher? Its all about visual, not necessarily content.

Overall, I think searchme.com has potential as it is completely different than Google, MSN, and Yahoo. It will be tried by different demographics and accepted by a few, but I think this might be the next step in the life of search. Check out the demo, its actually pretty cool. I was thinking I was playing with my iPhone the way the pages roll.

Visuel search har der været buzz om længe. Både Google, Ask og microsoft har forsøgt at integrere visuelt content i deres søgelistninger, men Searhme.com går linen ud. Man kender godt  problemstillingen. Man fortager en søgning og går igennem de første 10 sider, uden lige at finde den side man søgte og ofte behøver man bare at åbne siden før at man ved, at man ikke er det rigtige sted. Her ville Searchme.com, kunne være meget anvendelig. Hvis det vi ser her bliver en seriøs trend, så vil det uden tvivl få konsekvenser for den måde vi opbygger hjemmesider i dag. Der vil være nye krav til genkendelsesfaktorer og design, så brugerne ikke er i tvivl om, hvilken sider de scroller over.
