Nancy’s Sewing Basket on top of Queen Anne is a wonderful resource for Seattle brides. I first learned of it when I was considering having a dress made by a local gown designer. Having my heart set on French Alencon lace, I wanted to look at the different patterns and styles and was directed to this store. Although I ended up buying my gown, I was very impressed with their selection of lace, silk, other fabrics and notions.

A unique feature of the store is the ribbon room. It has the most fantastic variety of ribbons and other notions that you’ll see in one place. If you have a project in mind with certain colors or patterns and you can’t seem to find the right materials elsewhere, you would surely be able to find something suitable there.

A couple of weeks ago, my sister Kate mentioned that she wanted some sort of a feather or fake flower for her hair on her wedding day. She asked me if I felt like accompanying her on a trip to a craft store to find what she was looking for. Prior she’d shown me a number of cute things made by people on Etsy.com and other online stores– especially in England. (It seems that people don “fascinators” there more than in the U.S.) But as it was four days before the wedding she had run out of time to order. I was worried that she wouldn’t find something quite wedding appropriate at a simple craft store and, remembering the ribbon room at Nancy’s, recommended that we go there. Sure enough, after searching through the ribbon room for 15 minutes or so, she found exactly what she was looking for. It was high quality, beautiful and unique. It added that extra flourish that she desired as you can see in the photo!
