This is just a good moment of television. I am too tired to write anything right now. Thank God for Curb Your Enthusiasm bringing the cast of Seinfeld back together for a reunion show. The season finale was a week ago, and it was amazing. I miss Seinfeld (the show), but also Seinfeld (the man).

…and broken wooden swords…

I scared Kevin; I accidentally broke it… with one swing too..haha. I must have bottled up rage. It’s always the quiet ones

^ One of my favorite Seinfeld episodes turned guild!

Kevin spent time with me today, and after 2.5 hours, we went from 52% to 90.2! I might finish the level off now, and get her to 99, then trans her with Kev… or I might sleep.

Either way, yay second trans on my alt account. I’m slowly making progress to get all trans on the second account…slowly…

I just want to trans all my characters, then 99 off my main account before my alt account. I have too many goals!

I’m pretty excited radio stations started playing holiday songs. I like this time of year for the weather & atmosphere even though I don’t do much for the holidays, it just seems “romantic”

Overwhelmed and overstimulated, Elizabeth and Ellie walked through the doors of the Midtown maison t

Overwhelmed and overstimulated, Elizabeth and Ellie walked through the doors of the Midtown maison they would call home for the next three nights.

Checked in and checked out, they entered their room; a king size single bed and a sink. The girls, no strangers to living in close quarters, put their overstuffed bags any place they would fit, and excitedly ran to the window to check out the scene. Some would say a black-brick-wall-view was avant-garde, but not Ellie and Elizabeth. Never the less, they were in New York City, arguably the world’s hotspot of cool hipster radicalness, so who cares about a window view and a big bed?

It was Ellie’s birthday, a fresh 23 year-old she now was (Ellie, however, would argue this point, she holds firmly to the belief if you have a birthday in a country other than the one you were born in, you don’t age) and Elizabeth, birthday planner extraordinaire had conjured a conniving plan, commencing with the simple instruction for Ellie to shower and adorn herself in sketchy, skanky clothing.

Unbeknownst to the birthday girl, Elizabeth had organised for a stretch limousine to pick the pair up, champagne abound. The surprise, nigh on impossible to keep as a surprise, managed to stay that way due to a combination of Elizabeth’s dedication and experience in birthday schemes and Ellie’s ever present imperviousness to the general goings-on around her.

After the pair had communally showered, dried and dressed, they waited curbside Hotel 31. Ellie had now become suspicious that there may be some underhanded activity afoot, due in large part to Elizabeth’s cheesy grin and intermittent chuckling. Like a glass of vodka, lime and soda water in a dry bar, the limousine broke through the sea of yellow cabs and stopped immediately in front of them. It was only when the limousine chauffeur directly greeted the two, did Ellie fully realise what all of Elizabeth’s candid phone calls and preemptive giggles of glee were for. The girls exuberantly clambered into the oversized vehichle and exulting in her plan, Elizabeth popped the champagne bottle and the girls settled in to be driven around the endless maze of The Big Apple.

The ladies were dropped off at well known celebrity hangout, Sushi Samba on 7th. They decided they would not spare an expense this evening, and dine like those in the position to… well… dine like this.

Sushi was ordered, cocktails were drunk, a brownie with a lone candle was devoured. Many greenbacks later, it was time to be reunited with the limousine to be taken through Times Square, Wall St, Battery Park and by the Brooklyn Bridge.

Elizabeth, who had been to NYC on two previous occasions, was enjoying seeing the city in a different light, and Ellie, after years of Seinfeld dedication, was watching a dream come true.

The night was coming to a close and so was Ellie’s 23rd anniversary of life. New York City was waiting, and after some well needed rest in an actual bed, the girls would be ready to conquer the island of Manhattan. Keep hanging for the next update of Adventures and Aardvarks (you will just have to wait and see if this is true or not) in the city that never sleeps.

Yes, that’s what it felt like earlier this week when I caught the last episode of the current season of Curb Your Enthusiasm; Larry David’s hilarious comedy on HBO.

For all of you whom I don’t wish to know who do not know who Larry David is; he only just created Seinfeld along with Jerry Seinfeld all those years ago.

Anyway he plays himself in CYE and in the current season he gets back the old cast for a Seinfeld reunion culminating in last night’s episode. So my reality twisted and my perception of what was real warped as I watched Larry play himself, Larry play George for a minute whose character is based on Larry, Jerry playing himself playing himself etc etc.

It was sublime. I loved it. It had quotables, it had Seinfeldisms and it had Larry Davidisms

…on the other hand…..

….Mocha Joe!………….

…….do you respect wood?…………..

…….acting without acting……………….

Happy Slapsgiving, or Thanksgiving everyone. At this time every year the writers of JoeOnTheTube get together in one post and talk about what they are thankful for as far as TV goes. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

DarinIsLost-

I’m thankful for Lost. It has survived long enough to come to its natural conclusion. Most serialized TV shows get cancelled before their time and an ending is simply fabricated. Let’s hope they end this right.

I’m thankful for being able to pause live TV. I can start an American Idol results show 2/3 of the way through, skip past all of the filler and still catch the ending right along with the rest of the world.

JoanieCan’tDance-

This year I am thankful for Psych, How I Met Your Mother, The Office & 30 Rock for making me laugh; All the Real Housewife’s for sharing all the crazy drama; and to SYTYCD for the entertainment. I am also thankful for my DVR. Without you, I would never get to enjoy all of my favorite shows.

Morate-

The return of Curb Your Enthusiasm. The near-heroic levels of sarcasm on this show warm my heart. It’s been nice to see the Seinfeld cast again too, but Larry’s the true star of the show.

I’m not sure who gave the programming controls to the Metalheads out there, but I’d like to buy them a shot of Jagermeister. VH1’s That Metal Show and Fuse’s Talking Metal are standouts of the resurgence. Rawk!

Via Netflix, I’m catching up on Dexter. I totally missed it the first time around due to my lack of Showtime. This show is dark and dirty, and did I mention the main character has very few redeeming qualities? I can see why the networks were so afraid of this show. Dig it.

The wife is thrilled to have a second helping of So You Think You Can Dance this fall. And, as you married guys know, it’s good to have a happy wifey.

Her & Him-

HER: Tony’s truth serum induced rescue of Ziva on the season opener of NCIS.
HIM: I absolutely love NCIS. The season opening was pretty great.

HER: The Good Wife.
HIM: Have never seen The Good Wife – don’t need to, I already have one. (Love ya babe)

HER: Tom DeLay’s broken whatever that finally bumped him off Dancing With the Stars since the judges were apparently too dumbstruck by his ridiculous old man Republican hip shakin’ booty to do it.
HIM: Ok, I’ll say it, I’m ok watching Dancing With the Stars – the women’s dance outfits are worth the time.

HER: My husband doesn’t watch NASCAR.
HIM: I don’t get NASCAR – go straight, turn left, go straight, turn left – um, ok?!

HER: Phineas and Ferb.
HIM: Phineas and Ferb

HER: My daughter has finally outgrown Noggin.
HIM: Unfortunately, she’s picked up watching videos on CMT with her mom. :-/

HER: PBS.
HIM: PBS is now on our radar again.

HER: There are only a few weeks when the Mavericks and the Rangers overlap. Even fewer since the Rangers blew the last half of the season. (I’m not saying I’m thankful the Rangers blew the last half of the season. I was rooting for them. But come on, how freaking long can one season be? Oh wait, that question can be answered by the NBA.)
HIM: Yep, I love watching sports on TV

HER: Grey’s Anatomy is good again.
HIM: Grey’s Anatomy is good again.

HER: That we only have one TV in our house and I am frequently reminded of the depths of my husband’s love. Case in point – last night, he watched Donnie Osmond take home the Glitter Ball trophy on Dancing With the Stars, even though the Mav’s were playing. I’ll return the favor, of course, when I watch seven football games with him on Sunday. But that’s why God created DVR. Which I’m also thankful for.
HIM: Yep, I love watching sports on TV

JoeOnTheTube-

I’m thankful for my wife, who let’s me watch as much TV as I want. I’m thankful for my newborn son whom I look forward to imparting my love of TV on, but I promise to make sure he goes outside and plays as well.

I’m thankful that Ed O’Neill and Katey Sagal, or Peg and Al Bundy one of the most iconic married couples in the history of television, have found home on two of the best shows on TV.

I’m thankful for the two best new shows of the season, Modern Family and Glee.

I’m thankful for HBO and their wonderful shows True Blood, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Big Love, Bored To Death, The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, and of course the upcoming mini-series The Pacific.

I’m thankful that AMC has started producing quality television that rivals any other network on TV, including HBO. Mad Men and Breaking Bad are both amazing.

I’m thankful that Kurt Sutter created the world of Sons of Anarchy, and took us along for the ride. As season two comes to an end I can honestly say that I believe it is currently the best hour of TV on.

I’m thankful for the great people who write for this blog. You make my life easier, and I really appreciate it.

I’m thankful for this blog and all its readers. When I started this thing about a year and a half ago I never imagined that anyone aside from a few of my friends and family would read it. This month we’ve had over 30,000 visitors, and that blows my mind. We have some big changes coming up, and I hope that everyone keeps coming back. As long as you are reading we will be watching.

ELIZABETH MOREHEAD "Noel"

When Elaine Benes broke up during a piano recital because Jerry Seinfeld had put a Pez dispenser on her knee, Noel the pianist played on. Oh, she was plenty upset, but she didn’t acknowledge the distraction and continued to play.

Not every artist has that kind of composure. About 45 years ago, I was at a concert at Seton Hall University at which Leopold Stokowski was conducting the American Symphony Orchestra. Some people came in after the concert had started. I guess we were all aware of the doors opening and closing and the latecomers making their way into the gymnasium, but — hey — it happens.

Well, tell that to Stokowski.

LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI

He stopped the orchestra in the middle of the first piece, turned around and glared into the darkened gym. When the place had settled down, he went to the microphone and said, “You have to excuse me. When one comes to a place of learning one expects to find intelligence.” Then he returned to his place and started the concert again.

Of course, that’s a reasonable expectation on both sides of the footlights, so to speak. But the principle apparently is lost on Ian Hart, who went to pieces during a performance of “Speaking in Tongues,” a play on London’s West End for which he has gotten good notices. And, according to an account in The Times of London, witnesses say Hart’s threatening verbal abuse of a patron in the theater was without any basis except in the actor’s imagination.

Gerald Earley — the target of Hart’s ranting — said that a certain point in the proceedings, the actor had become “pretty feral,” which I thought was a delightful choice of words. Hart brushed off the incident as silly, but he also admitted he doesn’t like acting in the theater because he doesn’t “enjoy the relationship between the audience and the actor,” and, may I say, there’s a simple solution to that.

For The Times’ account of Hart’s outburst, click HERE.

I’m so ready for everyone to get home so we can get this holiday weekend started RIGHT. I have started celebrating, but at the moment, it is a party for one. So I decided to take it to the interwebz. So we can all be alone together while we get holiday going. So whether you are packing, traveling, cleaning, cooking, working or denying, won’t you please join me? I have picked this as our Thanksgiving kick off party theme song. This is a great ass shaker, no matter what you are doing.

Would LOVE to hear from you in the comments section. Let’s hear what you are thankful for. Allow me to begin:

I am thankful for everyone of you who reads this blog. I am so honored that people like to hear what I have to say. After years of complaining about all the negativity in the media, it is so powerful to be able to put something positive out there. And the fact that you read it and respond to it, makes my heart so happy.

I would also like to thank Ian, a pasty, funky scot limey [don't ever call him a scot - editor] who turned me on to this clip. I’ve never been able to get Boo ya tribe and now finally, yes I can.

So after the jump, a hip hop video that references Seinfeld. It will make you smile and shake what your mama gave ya.

Say hello to Wale

This is the other song that got me out of my chair this morning. I’m really digging Wale, a rapper out of the DC area. This video is so much fun, I love how silly he is, the Seinfield shout out is so unexpected! So crank it up and dance it out. Because it time to get grateful ya’ll.

From the dawn of the internet there were pop-ups and pop-up blockers. One could not exist without the other. Today we can happily check our email without being overwhelmed by offers to refinance our homes or extend our partners sexual endurance.

However, there is still one place where we can’t hide from Spam, the mail box. The real mailbox that sits outside your home, or hangs outside of your apartment door. That thing you only willingly check once a year, on your birthday, because there is bound to be a card in there with some money. The rest of the year you check it out of obligation, because you fear running into the mailman on his way to shove “weekly ads” in your tiny mailbox that is busting at the seems like a fat man at an all-you-can-eat buffet. You know you’ll get “the look” or worse he might go out of his way to knock on your door on a Saturday morning and ask you to empty your mailbox, so he can refill it with more worthless advertisements for car repair shops and Kmart blue light specials. Maybe the last one only applies to me. Either way there is no need to have receive this much junk in a week! Weekly ads my ass.

I finally understand how Kramer felt.

I like to stay positive. I live to believe there is a solution and answer to everything. So like a good Gen-Yer I turned to the internet. And look what I found.

http://www.usps.com/history/anrpt03/2003ar.pdf#search=’spam’

“Consumers are saying no to telemarketing. They’re blocking spam…” Well look at that sounds like they actually understand. ”But most welcome direct mail…” Hold on a second, did they just say– “It’s one of the most respected and effective sales tools available to marketers.” Doh!

Come on USPS it’s not like we’re talking about this kind of direct mail.

http://www.sapientnitro.com.au/work/best-job-in-the-world/

–Cannes 2009 Direct Grand Prix

If anyone figures out a real solution let me know. You might just save a forest too.

I often wonder how people survived in the past without a cell phone. It is such a necessity in daily

I often wonder how people survived in the past without a cell phone. It is such a necessity in daily life. With a cell phone, you are so easily accessible to the world and I think it has made us unbelievably impatient.

I was watching an old Seinfeld episode called The Movie. Jerry’s plans get all mixed up because he couldn’t make his spot at the comedy club, so he has to go to the movie theater to let the gang know that he can’t make the movie. Before Jerry gets there, the movie gets sold out so they have to go to another movie theater, so George, Elaine, and Kramer separate and a chain of events assues. Here is the first part of the episode. The link to the other 2 parts are on the side.

NEVER would have happened if they had a cell phone.

Another example. Sex and the City. Carrie turns 35. She shows up at the restaurant. No one is there. Hours later, she gives up and goes home. When she gets home, there are messages on her machine. So and so is late. There’s another restaurant with a similar name. Traffic is insane.

NEVER would have happened without a cell phone.

Of course, these are fiction. But it happens all the time, or at least, it used to. Now, if someone’s late, you pick up your cell phone, call them, and see where they are. Because of cell phones, no one would bother to wait hours to see if someone will show up or not. You will know within minutes if you will be stood up. It’s brutal.

I lost my cell phone less than 24 hours ago. It hasn’t been insufferable. I’m getting a replacement phone this Friday. I don’t necessarily feel unconnected. With the internet at my fingertips, it’s hard to feel unconnected. I can access my phone numbers online, so I can call people on my home phone if I need to.

I think tomorrow will be a different story. I will spend the majority of my time at my aunt’s house and not having a cell phone will be a bit difficult. It will just have to happen.

I was able to have breakfast with my friend Jia before she left for California! Even without a cell phone, I was able to get ahold of her. It was amazing to catch up with her. I hadn’t seen her in over a year, so it was nice to catch up. She’s definitely one of those friends who don’t have to know every single detail about each other’s lives, but when we get together, we talk about it, and it’s like we never spent 1.5 years apart.

Amazing ♥

In case we haven’t made it clear yet, we’re pretty big fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm here at NPI, and we were rather excited for Season Seven. Now that Season Seven has concluded, though, it’s worthwhile to go back and compare our expectations to what we actually got.

Back when F.P., Josh and I went over our expectations for this season, I mentioned that I thought Larry’s relationship with the Blacks would be the main storyline of this season, with a potential Larry/Loretta/Cheryl love triangle developing; the Seinfeld reunion, I said, would be more of a secondary plotline. Well, I was right that the Seinfeld reunion was not the primary story: the show was only central to three episodes, and incidental to two others. But I was way off on the Blacks. Loretta and her family were sent packing in the second episode of the season, “Vehicular Fellatio.”

I can’t say I was upset by this development. I thought there was a lot of potential in the Larry/Loretta pairing, but, as Josh and F.P. each pointed out, there was also the tendency to do trite or obvious jokes with them. Season Six and the first two episodes of this season gave Larry plenty of opportunity to flesh out his dynamic with the Black family. And while the first two episodes were very strong—particularly the second episode (“Do you know what it’s like to have cancer?” “No, but I know what it’s like to be with someone who has cancer.”)—I never really missed Loretta or Auntie Rae during the rest of the season.

What made the decision to ditch the Blacks even more palatable was the decision to keep Leon. Leon’s announcement that he did not plan on leaving with the rest of the Blacks was one of the best lines of the season:

Larry: “So I guess this means you’ll be…”

Leon: “—going upstairs and eating this fucking Chinese food in my fucking room.”

Leon is probably the best character added to the show since Marty Funkhouser, so keeping him around was a smart move. But Leon must have spent a lot of time eating that Chinese food. For some reason, he only appeared in two episodes after the show made a point of keeping him. Hell, Jeff’s daughter had almost as much screen time. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the two episodes in which Leon did appear (“Denise Handicapped” and “The Table Read”) were the best of the season.

“The Table Read” was a particularly brilliant episode, as it gave Leon the opportunity to interact with the Seinfeld cast, and Michael Richards the opportunity to address his controversy. The show handled this rather delicate scenario rather well, showing that Richards was contrite, but willing to poke fun at himself. It also led to one of the funniest scenes of the season, with Leon pretending to be Danny Duberstein.

Besides Leon’s scene with Richards, though, the penultimate episode of the season was strong from top to bottom. It was the rare instance of pretty much every joke working, from Larry getting into a texting relationship with a nine-year-old (“NO I DON’T WATCH WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE! I’M AN ADULT!!!!!!!!!”), Marty Funkhouser’s lurking around the set, to Larry David stand-by jokes about tipping and germophobia. It also gave us the first look at what the fake Seinfeld reunion show looked like.

One of the recurring jokes throughout this season was other characters repeatedly saying that a reunion show could “make up for the finale,” despite Larry’s adamant insistence that the Seinfeld finale was a good one. I’ve always been on the fence with regard to the Seinfeld finale: On the one hand, there were almost certainly funnier ways for the show to end. On the other hand, I feel like there would have been no ending for a show as plotless—even by comedy standards—as Seinfeld that would have satisfied everyone. Most sitcoms have a romantic plot that the finale can conclude (Friends, Cheers, The Wonder Years) or some other natural endpoint, such as a radio show ending (Frasier), kids moving out/away (Fresh Prince, Boy Meets World), or criminal charges being dropped (Arrested Development). Seinfeld, though, was a show about nothing, so having a finale in which “something” happens would betray that ethos. At the same time, though, a finale in which nothing happens would seem anticlimactic.

The Curb quasi-reunion demonstrated the kind of bind a finale/conclusion puts Larry and Jerry in. The plot of the reunion show is George’s attempt to win back his ex-wife, but this is clearly just an excuse for the Larry of the show to write about his own life (as he did by putting elements of his “life” on Curb into the fictional reunion, including the plots of “The Doll” and “The Car Pool Lane” in the Seinfeld script) and cast Cheryl in the show as part of his plot to win back his ex-wife.

I’m quite confident in saying that, were this a real reunion show, I would be pretty underwhelmed. For one, the plot we get to see reveals a Seinfeld universe that is more or less the same and yet jarringly different. Jerry lives in the same apartment and they’re all still friends, but Elaine has a kid? And Jerry was the sperm donor? And George was briefly a millionaire? Even more out of character, the fake reunion included jokes about Bernie Madoff and iPhone apps; one thing that made Seinfeld great was its resistance to doing anything for the sake of appearing “edgy” or “relevant” or “contemporary”—the show just was those things, without taking jokes from the headlines. And as for the romantic plot of the finale, well, Larry probably put it the best in the finale: “We don’t do endings like that. It’s all bullshit. What couples get together at the end?”

I’m not quite sure if this was intentional—the Larry of Curb seemed satisfied with the reunion show—but the message of the finale-within-the finale seemed to be, “See? You wouldn’t really have liked any finale I could have given you.” That doesn’t mean it didn’t lead to some very good Curb moments, though. Adding Jerry into the mix allowed us to see the clear rapport between he and Larry fuction somewhere besides the commentaries on Seinfeld DVDs. The tension between Larry and the rest of cast also led to some great moments, such as Larry calling Jason Alexander’s book (Acting Without Acting) a pamphlet. And even if the episode they were filming wasn’t one I wanted to see, getting a look at what it was like to film and create one of the greatest shows of all time added some excitement to the last two episodes.

The final two episodes also brought the central story of this season—Larry’s attempt to win back Cheryl—to a natural conclusion. For a while, it almost seemed like Larry David’s take on a pedestrian romantic comedy, as Cheryl overhears Larry confess his love for her through her car’s tinted windows (the very windows Larry himself had chided earlier in the episode) and comes to Larry’s house for the finale. But, of course, Larry can’t leave well enough alone, and he interrupts their make-up scene to ask Cheryl to call Julia Louis-Dreyfus and admit that she was the one who left the ring stain on her coffee table. It’s open to interpretation whether or not this is just a return to form for Larry and Cheryl, or if this will be enough to prove to Cheryl that Larry has not changed at all.

Overall, Season Seven started very strong, with the conclusion of the Black storyline and the introduction of the Seinfeld reunion, and ended very strong, with the casts of both shows coming together. Unfortunately, there was kind of a lag in between. The middle of the season featured only one standout episode (“Denise Handicapped”), with two average ones (“Officer Krupke” and “The Black Swan”) and two sub-par episodes (“The Hot Towel” and “The Bare Midriff”); for a show as consistently great as Curb Your Enthusiasm, this was a rather disappointing stretch. I’m going to resist making broad judgments like “Worst Season Ever” or “This Show’s on Its Last Legs,” because Curb is a show that often watches better the second time, and because the last two episodes were so satisfying overall. We probably won’t see Curb on again until 2011 at the earliest, but if and when an eighth season comes around, you can expect another epic NPI preview.
