Back in January when I was thinking of starting a blog, I had no idea what blogging platforms existed or what would be a “fit” for me. I wanted to start a blog to keep some thoughts in perspective but not outright totally share with those I knew, but rather anyone and most especially no one I knew. Just wanted to throw Things that matter “out there”.

I began my search by reviewing blog posts I had interest in and what site they were utilizing. I found WordPress.com to be the site that would ”fit” my personality.

So…why WordPress?

Observed Goodreads authors I follow utilize WordPress for their blog engine

More established blogging platform

Pretty aesthetics

Adore the flexibility, ease of navigating and customizability

Dominates in terms of unique visitors

Built-in commenting capabilities (what, really? Tumblr doesn’t have this feature?)

Widgets, most especially Goodreads

It’s free

As I was searching Tumblr vs. WordPress vs. Blogger (this, by the way, should have been the place to start), a few things were mentioned to consider:

The first question posed was what sort of blogger would I be? The two types mentioned were the niche blog and the personal blog. The definition of the personal blogger would be me – about me and my lifestyle, sharing interests and updating personal statuses whatever the topic I’m creating. The recommended site: Tumblr.

Ooops #1

However, another post states for a personal blog that has no commercial value or no intent to become commercial, the recommended blogging platform: WordPress.

YES!

From what I’ve read, Tumblr sounds more along the lines of social networking, superfast micro-blogging, and the “re-blogging” concept. But wait up…there’s an App for that called Twitter. And I already tweet and retweet on Chicago happenings, novel reviews, word & film, health and fitness, food and dining, fantasy football…you name it!

Blogger (Blogspot.com, now part of Google) is there but isn’t; no static landing page but able to “monetize” blog site with ads galore.

Moving on…..

At the conclusion of one review, the question posed is which is better out of Tumblr or WordPress? Their response was to decide is to create an account on both and see which one wins your heart over time. But can you imagine having to update two blogs?? Just to have my heart won? Sounds a lot like dating…

One caveat mentioned was you WILL NOT GET FAMOUS with a personal blog. Uh, geez ~ I don’t even want anyone I know to READ my blog!!! However, I am intrigued that WordPress dominates in terms of unique visitors. Definitely sounds a lot like dating…

I’m a still a newbie with blogging, but WordPress hasn’t let me down and I”m still learning. I even posted a video! Watich out should I go ”self-host”.

And I just can’t say enough of the Elegant Grunge theme ~ I LUV IT!
