Peterson and Zori Bayriamova in Dec 2007: ” As you would expect, the more experience you have doing web analytics, the more you’re going to make. No huge insight there, but it does appear that at least in today’s job market there are three categories of experience: less than three years, three to five years, and more than five years of experience.”

If you look at Figure 2 in 2007 the first group 2 was clustered around $80,000 USD, the second around $90,000 USD, and the third at $105,000-120,000

One of the most encouraging outcome from this survey is that salaries have increased since SEMPO’s previous survey, regardless of how much experience respondents have with in-house search marketing.

The stats from Cyber Monday are in. The latest data reveals that online purchases are up 14% over last year. Yet it doesn’t necessarily mean that retail spending is back in high gear.

Now more than ever retailers need to be out there pulling in buyers. Tactics such as retargeting are more necessary than ever. In fact we just conducted a survey with SEMPO which revealed that online marketers believe retargeting (or remarketing) is not used nearly enough. Check out our Facebook page for all the details.

For those of you who would like to know more info about Remarketing, please visit our Remarketing page.

I have been following Steve Rubel’s (SVP of Edelman Digital) blog which highlights technology

I have been following Steve Rubel’s (SVP of Edelman Digital) blog which highlights technology shifts and new trends in the PR, marketing, and advertising industries. I really recommend following this blog if you are a young person hoping to break into PR or marketing. It’s imperative to keep on top of the newest trends in technology. Edelman Digital recently published a thoughtful and informative white paper (curated by Stevel Rubel) on “Search Engine Visibility,” which you can read here.

Curated by Rubel, the paper explains the importance of PR and marketing professionals to have a basic understanding of search engine marketing. A key point the white paper discusses is the growing need for PR people to keep search optimization in mind when creating content for a client. Whether it is online in social networks or in a press release, PR/marketing pros need to make sure that content they are publishing will be visible to search engine “crawlers,” or robots that comb through web pages in efforts to provide results for individual searchers. As a result of reading this digital white paper, I decided to do an online certification course in Advance Search Engine Optimization with an organization called SEMPO. So far, it’s been an interesting experience and I’ve learned how to optimize sites using tailored keywords that are strategically put into web page descriptions. I think it’ll be really valuable in the long run to add SEO knowledge to my skills, and I urge other aspiring professionals to consider expanding their knowledge of search marketing.

In the Digital era the customer is used to interface with companies in a dynamic dialogue. Simply put e-marketing is all about getting close to customers. In a way e-marketing is broader than e-commerce as it is not limited to transactions between your organization and its stakeholders, but all of the marketing processes are included.

An especially fascinating aspect for a customer marketing friendly approach is the behavioural targeting or online advertising, which happens when a customer interacts on a media site or searches on a specific term. Especially in the retail industry a sequence of follow up ads, known as behavioural retargeting is a suggested best practice by paid research services such as Forrester.

From the 28th to the 30th of January I will be in Barcelona for the first congress of search engines in Catalonia. As anticipated by Massimo Burgio, co-Chairs of the Global Committee at SEMPO, founding member of Sempo Europe, Sempo Latino, and speaker a this conference, it is gonna be an event not to be missed with high-quality conferences and renowned experts, where sharing essential knowledge about search engines will be a must

I can’t wait!

If you are gonna be around drop me a line: it is gonna be the perfect occasion to talk about Digital marketing in the Web 2.0, with an eye on Web 3.0 and best practices according to the marketing gurus in the retail, finance and travel industries…

If you skip the congress not to worry. I will write all about it, or at least the bits which I found most interesting, upon my return… and… If you drop me a line to register your interest in future events being organized in Dublin… I might even send you a postcard from Barcelona… in between tapas and a chat and a glass of Rojo with a few hints as per what’s next on the European scene.

Hasta Luego!

Email me if you would like for me to send you the accompanying press release.

SEMPO’s 1st Annual In-House Salary Survey showed search engine marketers receiving healthy salaries in line with their experience but salaries in the mid-to-high $100s to the $200K range still required five to seven years experience. Another key finding was roughly one third of in-house SEMs were managing monthly budgets in excess of $200,000, a level that exceeded expectations.

We thank you in advance for helping SEMPO deliver important research to all professionals working in search marketing. Last but not least, we will let you know when the early results for the annual survey become available.

Link building is an important factor for increasing visibility of your website. It is a cost effective way of promoting your website link. Many experts might disagree with this statement, but as charity begins at home, link building should be started from your own website. If you have a 100 pages website then you should provide the link of all the other pages, so that your users find it easy to navigate. Natural One Way Links coming from sites with good content help your website to drive quality traffic towards it. A good number of natural one way links even ensures placement of your website at top 10 places on SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) of different search engines. The Link Building Services package offered at SEM Web Services provides Natural Link Building Services executed by an experienced team of link builders. The links that are being built will promote the website for the specific industry that you are serving into.Link building can be considered as the most important tool for website marketing.

Why SEM?

If you have a web site, you need SEM (search engine marketing). Search engine marketing involves the whole marketing process of the website in several search engines.Essentially, any marketing that uses the search engines can be viewed as SEM.

Search engine marketing includes SEO (search engine optimization) and PPC (pay per click) search engine advertising. Both are an integral part of a successful internet marketing strategy.

According to the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization SEMPO (2006), advertisers in the US and Canada spent $5.75 billion on SEM in 2005, a 44 percent increase over 2004 spending. 2006 is expected to show sharp increase over 2005. And to boot, “Internet users are extremely positive about search engines and the experiences they have when searching the internet,” according to a research report from Pew/Internet (2005). SEM helps you get top rank in major search engines increasing your visibility in web.
