I wrote to you earlier suggesting that if you did not investigate the crimes of the Bush Administration, you would be viewed as their accessory. Sadly, war crimes and torture are now committed with your name on them.

I am by no means an actress. At fourteen years old, I dabbled in the art. I wrote a Shakespearean themed play to act out with a friend on a stage in front of parents, teachers and classmates. My monotone lines and blank stare were enough to scare me away. It just was not for me. I prefer to write the lines, and watch others perform. I’m a puppeteer; I run the show.

One might attribute my lack of acting skills to stage fright. It is an easy excuse. “My lines suffered from my stage fright.” No, thank you. I just cannot act. Now, you may presently be thinking: “What in hell does this have to do with writing?”

Everything.

Page fright, publication fright, whatever you would like to call it. It is the reason you have yet to submit a piece of your work to any type of publication.  You are afraid of rejection, of not being good enough. Who knows, you may not be.

Rejection means everything. It is the water to your seed of writing. You may pinch yourself to see if you are dreaming, what I am telling you is not a nightmare. Without rejection, you will be lead to think your writing does not need room to grow. It does, all writing needs room to grow. Rejection forces it to do so.

My first submission to a literary magazine took place at Rider University two years ago. I sat in my dorm, horrified. I had the guidelines in one screen, and my pieces in others. I refused to pick what to send to the magazine, I was afraid of what the outcome would be. I forced myself to submit a short story, and various poems. Not everything was accepted. To my surprise, that was thrilling. I was forced to confront the fact that my writing has yet to become perfect.

Now, I am daring you. Write a short story; write it about anything. Then, when you have tortured every last sentence to your idea of perfection, search for a literary magazine currently accepting submissions.

Kara and April left central Russia and traveled across six time zones to attend a retreat in Tallinn, Estonia, for women serving the Lord in Eastern Europe. because of fogged-in airports and diverted flights, they had to spend an extra $600 on air expenses. Kara felt guilty about leaving her husband to care for their two young children and to run their ministry. The unplanned financial burden added to her guilt, and she e-mailed her husband that she was having difficulty enjoying the retreat.

He told her not to worry about the extravagance and said, “God is, after all, the God who made us heirs with Him and co-heirs with Christ. The God who gave Eve to Adam. The Father who loves to give good gifts to His children. Heaven is the ultimate of this . . . but I also think that He has given us gifts to be enjoyed — and a time to enjoy them. And this time, for you, is now. Don’t worry — sacrifice is waiting for you aplenty when you get home.” We can benefit from his response.

As Kara was able then to enjoy the retreat, we too, as God’s children, can let ourselves enjoy without guilt the good things He sends our way (1 Timothy 6:17). We, in turn, can use those good gifts to bless others. —dave egner

After school I went to my friend’s place since she had been sick for a week, so I stayed for a few hours. I had a bit of a fight with my mum just before sending it.. After have been trying for hours to transfer my contacts from my old phone to my new iPhone, I’ve now decided to share how I solved it. Maybe it will help so someone else doesn’t have to sit as long as I did with it.

I went from a Sony Ericsson W660i to an iPhone 3Gs, quite a big jump in the technology. As you probably know, iPhone Contacts syncs with the Address book in your mac when they are connected. However, originally there is no way to in its turn sync it with another kind of phone, like a Sony Ericsson, in the same way with the computer. This, however, you can do by install a plug-in to iSync, a standard software in OSX.

I found the plug-in I needed here, and there are probably similar ones for other kinds as well.

Once this is installed, iSync can now connect your Sony Ericsson with the computer and the Address Book syncs with the contacts from the phone. After that, it’s only to connect your iPhone to your computer and let it automatically sync with iTunes.

Efter att ha i timmar försökt få över mina kontakter från min gamla mobil till min nya iPhone, har jag nu bestämt mig för att dela med mig av hur jag löste det. Kanske slipper någon annan sitta lika länge som jag med det.

Mitt byte gick från en Sony Ericsson W660i till iPhone 3Gs, ett ganska stort hopp i tekniken. Som ni förmodligen vet synkas iPhones Kontakter med Adressboken i din mac när de ansluts. Ursprungligen finns det emellertid inte något sätt att i sin tur synka en annan sorts telefon, som en Sony Ericsson, på samma sätt med datorn. Detta går däremot att göra genom att installera en plug-in till iSync, ett standardprogram i OSX.

Jag hittade den plug-in jag behövde här, och det finns förmodligen liknande för andra sorter.

När denna är installerad, kan nu iSync koppla ihop din Sony Ericsson med datorn och Adressboken synkas med kontakterna från telefonen. Därefter är det bara att koppla in din iPhone i datorn och låta den automatiskt synkas med iTunes.

While we all like our sites to have visitors, a loyal visitor—one who returns for later visits—is especially valuable. And while search engines do send a lot of visitors, a study issued by Chitika earlier this month shows that the most loyal site visitors come from social sites, as eMarketer reports today.

Studying 33 million uniques across its publisher network last month, Chitika used the criterion of four or more visits over the course of a week to indicate a loyal visitor. They found that Facebook and Digg had the best loyalty rates:

Facebook showed 20.69% of its referrals became loyal visitors. Digg had slightly over 16% of its referrals visit four or more times that week.

Interestingly, Yahoo had a slightly better loyalty rate than Google.:

Next came the search engines, Yahoo! leading the way with over 15% [15.89%] of referrals being loyal. Google and Bing were practically even at slightly below 12% [11.84% and 11.74%], and Twitter came in last place overall with barely over 11%.

I’m a little surprised that one in eight Google visitors return four or more times in a week. Considering that Google sent 76% of the traffic in the study, even with the lower retention rate, it’s still numerically more loyal visitors. But, as Chitika puts it, if you had the option of sending 1000 visitors to your site from Google or Facebook, if you want loyalty, Facebook is a better bet.

It’s also interesting that Twitter visitors were least loyal. You might argue that links in Twitter get pushed down in the feed so fast that it’s hard to dig them up again later to return, but the same is probably true for Facebook. (Note, too, that Twitter is falling rapidly in referral rates: eMarketer says, “In July, Twitter was No. 24 on Chitika’s list of top referrers, with 0.05%. By September, it had moved down to 44th place, with just a 0.02% share.”)

But probably most interesting is that one-sixth of Digg visitors are loyal. The site has become notorious for one-off traffic spikes that don’t do a whole lot for long term gains—but maybe the dynamic has shifted as the site has aged.

The Sabres have traded underachieving left wing Daniel Paille to the Boston Bruins in exchange for two draft picks.

In making the deal Tuesday, the Bruins announced they gave up a third- and a conditional fourth-round selection in next year’s draft. Paille is a 2002 first-round draft pick who had difficulty finding a niche in the Sabres lineup.

He had one assist in two games with Buffalo this season. Paille has 35 goals and 77 points in 195 career NHL games. His best season came in 2007-08, when he had 19 goals and 35 points.

The Bruins, who host Nashville on Wednesday, bolstered their lineup after forward Milan Lucic had surgery to repair a broken finger on Sunday and was placed on injured reserve.

Every time I tell students about the lab feature Undo Send within seconds they are giddy with excitement about how much this is going to save them. That’s right – going to. Inevitably their thoughts go back to an email they wish they could have unsent but the possibility of never having that worry again is mesmerizing.

At a student club leader presentation two weeks ago I reviewed a number of labs and explained Undo Send. Note – I had approximatley 5-10 minutes to review the entire Google Apps suite so I was going quickly. About 3 seconds after I explained Undo Send and had paused for effect one student literally gasped with jaw agape! You could see the “OMG HFCIT FTW” look across her face. She was elated.

Though not at profound a reaction, possibly because of the brain melt that has affected them, students also smile a the fact that they can change the undo time from 5 seconds to 10 seconds.

Tasks has graduated to become an official part of GMail, when will Undo Send.

Nobody has snubbed the lab feature. Yet. Will someone? I’d be amazed.
