Jetzt gleich spielt Senore Matze Rossi in Bad Kissingen das letzte Konzert für eine “sehr, sehr lange Zeit”. Anders als Michael Jackson kommt der Schweinfurter Songwriter aber eines Tages wieder zurück. Irgendwann im Jahr 2010 – mit einem neuen Album, auf das ich mich jetzt schon sehr freue. Bis dann, Matze!

So after just eight months Mr Votolato returned to Cologne for yet another show. Which was perfectly fine with me since I missed most of his last performance in February due to many people I hadn’t seen in a long time and who I wanted to talk to which resulted in me standing in front of the venue most of the time. This time though I was determined to stay for the whole set and I wasn’t disappointed by what I got to see and hear.

The last time he visited Cologne he played at a cinema right in the city center and it seems he liked it that much so this time he chose to play at a former cinema turned club. The “Gloria” is right in the heart of the city and is best known for its gay events, especially during the time of the Christopher Street Day parade in July. Apart from that the venue features comedians and bands and some big acts go there for small club shows (e.g. Coldplay did a show there some time ago). The place itself is, as said before, an old cinema theater without the seats. Which make it very easy to get a good view at the stage because the floor bends downwards towards the stage. So me and a friend chose to hang back near the bar and watch the action from there.

The show wasn’t sold out which only added to the nice experience because I don’t like packed acoustic shows. First up was a German singer/songwriter who accompanied Rocky Votolato throughout the whole tour. His stage name was Senore Matze Rossi and to be honest I wasn’t that thrilled by his performance. The whole concept was way too predictable. It even somewhat looked like as if he used a manual to write his lyrics (which were in German). This was too much of what German pop music sounds like nowadays so me and my friend took the chance to have a little chat while Senore was playing on stage. The audience seemed  to like him though and that’s completely fine with me.

One pleasant surprise was the music played inbetween the sets. Jawbreaker always makes me smile.

And when Mr Votolato started his show the magic returned once again. He was very sympathetic and delivered what the crowd wanted to hear. Lots of songs from the “Suicide Medicine” record, some new ones, some old ones, brilliant tracks like “Every Red Cent” or “Automatic Rifle”. It was a pleasure. He returned for a few encores after he had played for about an hour. A nice extra was that brilliant coverversion of Against Me’s “Sink, Florida, Sink” which is great in the original version, but Mr Votolato added his special influence to it. Wonderful stuff.

A very relaxing and pleasant evening. Although I would have preferred seats this time since my back was hurting a little bit from playing football on Tuesday…

Senore Matze Rossi, vergangene Woche noch im Auftrag der Europäischen Union im Kosovo auf der Bühne (und auch im Radio), tritt im Herbst im Vorprogramm des großartigen US-Songwriters Rocky Votolato auf. Unbedingt hingehen!

Schön, dass auch für Festivalmuffel wie mich hin und wieder “Festivals” angeboten werden. Zum Beispiel das “Immer weiter Festival” gestern Abend im Erlanger E-Werk, das eigentlich kein Festival war, sondern ein ganz normales Clubkonzert mit zwei Bands und einem Solo-Künstler, nämlich Ja, Panik! aus Wien, Sputnik aus dem Oberland (inkl. Sänger mit einem wunderbaren Dialekt) und dem Schweinfurter Lokalmatador Senore Matze Rossi.

Schön wars…und das trotz subtropischer Temperaturen im E-Werk.

Heute bestellt: Ein Ticket für das Ja, Panik!-Konzert am 3. Juni im E-Werk. 

Großartige Sache, denn “The Taste and the Money”, das aktuelle Album der Wiener, gehört derzeit zu meinen absoluten Lieblingsplatten.

Komplettiert wird der sicherlich großartige Abend von zwei sympathischen Supports. Zum einen wäre dies der Schweinfurter Singer/Songwriter Senore Matze Rossi, zum anderen die Münchner Indie-Pop-Kombo Sputnik. 

Senore Matze Rossi ist Matze Nürnberger ist Gründungsmitglied der Punkband Tagtraum, ist “Singe & Songwriter” und, das kann ich seit letztem Samstag noch hinzu fügen, absolut sympatisch.

Kurz vor 21:00Uhr begann das Konzert im, doch recht kleinen, Stereo Wonderland und so war das Konzert trotz der “enge” ziemlich familiär. Zum ersten Track gerade noch rein und Fix die 8€ bezahlt (die übrigens weniger als der VVK waren) und los ging es.

Matze steht schon seit gut einem Jahr nicht mehr allein auf der Bühne sondern wird von seiner Band begleitet. Songs und Musik schreibt er jedoch immer noch selbst und das merkt man auch immer wieder.

Emotionale Pop-Rock”Baladen” stehen hier im Wechselspiel zu leichter Punkatitüde. Die politischen Themen hat Senore Matze Rossi jedoch seit der Tagtraum Auflösung weitgehend hinter sich gelassen.

Viel mehr geht es bei seinem Soloprojekt noch mehr um Erfahrungen, das Leben und Gefühle. Das klingt jetzt nach Kitsch ist aber wirklich schön anzusehen und vor allem zu hören.

Zwischen den Songs beschäftigt sich Herr Rossi immer wieder mit seinem Puplikum, macht kleinere Späße und erzählt von der Tour.  Mit Stromschlägen vom Mikrofon und dem zweckentfremdeten Schal hat dann Rossi endgültig die Sympatiepunkte auf seiner Seite und wärend die einen noch ab und an dazwischen rufen singen die anderen schon das nächste Lied mit.  22:00Uhr soll dann auch Schluss sein, nur darauf hat niemand so wirklich lust und so gibt es neben den 2 Standartzugaben noch ein haufen improvisierter Stücke und nach ca. 100 Minuten Senore Matze Rossi ist dann auch ein Großteil des Songarchives aufgebraucht und der Merch-Stand aufgestellt.

Dort wird dann noch fix das neue Album gekauft und ab gehts in die Nacht.  Mit einem guten Gefühl versteht sich.
