September 2, 1948 – Nathaniel “Tiny” Archibald is a retired American professional basketball player. He spent 14 years playing in the NBA, most notably with the Kansas City Kings and Boston Celtics. Archibald was a willing passer and an adequate shooter from midrange. However, it was his quickness and speed and shiftiness that made him difficult to guard in the open court, as he would regularly drive past defenders on his way to the basket. He is the only player to lead the NBA in scoring and assists in the same season.

FRISCO, Texas – Jackson’s goal in the 32nd minute, and a couple of key saves by goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, lifted FC Dallas to a 1-1 tie Sunday night against the Seattle Sounders FC.

The draw helps Dallas (8-12-9) keep their playoff hopes alive, as a 3-1-1 record in their last five has allowed them to creep to within four points of Vancouver for the Western Conference’s fifth and final post-season slot, with five games remaining.

Seattle improved to 5-1-2 in its last eight MLS contests, edging past Los Angeles into third place in the Western Conference.

Hartman, the MLS all-time leader in virtually every goalkeeping category, made three saves, including one on Sounders FC forward Fredy Montero, who made five shot attempts but was held off the scoresheet after recording six goals in his previous four league games.

Seattle took a 1-0 lead on Mauro Rosales’ second goal of the season in the 20th minute. Rosales, who leads the MLS with 13 assists, was the recipient this time of a beautiful set-up from Steve Zakuani.

Making his first start (and third appearance) since April 22, 2011, a span of 500 days, after an extended recovery from a broken leg, Zakuani accelerated around Dallas defender Zach Loyd on the left side before delivering a perfect feed across the goalmouth to the charging Rosales for an easy tap-in at the right post.

Jackson’s third goal of the year tied it in the 32nd minute. Blas Perez, making his first start (and second appearance) for Dallas after missing 12 games with a right foot sprain, delivered a nifty pass across the penalty area to the charging Jackson, who re-directed it home near the left post.

The Sounders FC nearly regained the lead just three minutes later, but Hartman made an outstanding leaping hand save on Brad Evans’ point-blank header, barely deflecting the ball over the crossbar.

Seattle controlled the majority of the action through the first 20-plus minutes of the second half, but it was FC Dallas’ Jackson who had the best opportunity to snap the 1-1 tie, in the 69th minute.

A short pass from Perez left Jackson alone with the ball about 10 yards out, but his point-blank shot was stopped by Sounders FC goalkeeper Michael Gspurning, who made a spectacular diving save.

Star forward Eddie Johnson, who is tied with Montero for the team lead with 11 goals, did not make the trip for the Sounders FC, remaining back in Seattle to rest.

Meanwhile, Dallas was missing speedy forward Fabian Castillo, who had scored goals in three straight games before leaving their last contest with a strained right hamstring, also sat out.

SEATTLE (AP) — Jered Weaver knew it was going to be a tough start even before he reached the mound.

SEATTLE (AP) — Jered Weaver knew it was going to be a tough start even before he reached the mound.

The Angels ace didn’t feel good in the bullpen and struggled through 5 1-3 innings in a 2-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, snapping Los Angeles’ five-game winning streak.

Weaver (16-4) allowed just two earned runs on solo home runs from Jesus Montero and Carlos Peguero, but he also walked four and gave up eight hits.

“I was able to battle for the most part, but obviously made a couple bad pitches,” Weaver said.

He was also struck on the right arm by a line drive off Dustin Ackley’s bat in the fifth. Weaver said it clipped his glove prior to hitting his arm and looked worse than it feels.

“It didn’t really square me up too bad,” Weaver said.

Weaver threw a couple practice pitches and remained in the game.

“This is something that’s going to get sorer as time goes on,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “I’m sure it’s going to stiffen up tonight, and we’ll see how it sets up tomorrow.”

Montero singled early, then hit his 15th home run of the season in the fourth. It was Montero’s fourth home run and fifth hit in nine career at-bats against Weaver.

Only Curtis Granderson and Alex Rodriguez have more home runs (5) against Weaver, but needed 25 and 24 at-bats, respectively, to do it.

Peguero hit his second homer of the season in the fifth, a high-arcing shot to right field, a day after being called up from Triple-A Tacoma.

Hisashi Iwakuma (6-3) mixed his pitches all afternoon. He threw 7 1-3 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out seven.

Tom Wilhelmsen allowed a run in the ninth when Howie Kendrick singled home pinch-runner Vernon Wells, but retired Erick Aybar to convert his 22nd save in 25 tries.

Josh Kinney relieved Iwakuma with two runners on in the eighth and retired Mike Trout and Torii Hunter on fly balls. The Angels were 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position.

“I was just going to make him hit the ball the other way instead of try and get perfect and punch him out,” Kinney said of Trout. “I wasn’t going to let him pull the ball on me. You got respect the kid. The kid’s tough.”

Mariners left fielder Trayvon Robinson went into the stands to catch Maicer Izturis’ fly ball in the fifth inning. Robinson snagged the ball just in foul territory before his momentum caused his whole body to go into the stands.

Hunter threw out Montero at the plate to save Weaver a run in the second. Peguero had singled to right and the Mariners tried to score the plodding Montero from second, but he was tagged out on a close play.

Albert Pujols’ fourth-inning double extended his hitting streak to 11 games. He moved to third on a grounder, but Mark Trumbo struck out. Trumbo struck out three times and is hitting .198 with three home runs since Aug. 1.

Pujols couldn’t drive in Chris Iannetta, who had doubled and moved to third in the sixth.

“We had some opportunities,” Scioscia said. “They came back to haunt us in the end.”

NOTES: Angels LHP C.J. Wilson (10-9) starts Monday at Oakland.

I keep hurting Connor because he is smart enough to realize I’m not totally into him and I keep leading Dahn on because he’s to stupid to take no for an answer. I dont want to hurt Connor but I don’t want to lead him on. I don’t want to date him, at least not in volleyball season, but I love talking to him and hanging out with him. If I had a good heart, I would be in love with Connor. He’s confronting me about my being on the fence and I should just tell him exactly what I feel but I can’t. I can’t hurt people that care about me. It’s just not something I’m good at. Its like something we are talking about in English class right now, that not making a decision, indecision, is a choice in itself, and never a good one to make. I’m making the bad choice. I just don’t know how to change it.

Its about time I wrote again.

Brief info of what happened today.

Sept 2 marks the birthday of one friend of mine who was a classmate of mine, too, from elementary up until high school, so happy birthday to her!

We also joined the MBC National Chorale Competition Regional Finals, and we came up 2nd place.

And now, I’m writing this blog article while listening to Morten Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium (he’s actually one of my favorite composers right now).

So. I may have only realized it now.

In preparation for the said competition, our conductor has given me the task of making a piece for an SATB choir (a chorale piece that can be sung by a choir with Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses), and I made one. I made it for two days, and the choir started practicing it the week before the performance proper (the main reason of our loss was probably this, the lack of practice time, we only had about a week to practice one new song, polish three songs, and add choreography to two songs).

Now playing is the First Movement of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.

Back to the story. Now, I don’t know if you feel the joy and thrill of a piece of yours being sung to the public for the first time. The first piece that I made that was going to be sung in front of an audience. I felt honored and a bit nervous. “What if the judges don’t like my piece?” “How will they react to it?” I knew the choir could give it justice, I just feared the response. It was actually good. I think. Haha.

I’m not really a trained composer/arranger. I may study for a bachelor’s degree in music, but I’m not a composition major. I just, you know. Liked doing it. I did not know that I developed something out of it. I started out loving making music. I end up actually loving creating music more now.

Don’t get me wrong. I still love playing the guitar. Electric, acoustic, classical. Someday, I’d like to create a concerto for guitar, too. But now, I’m in love with creating music. I once thought of taking a master’s degree in guitar performance after I graduate. Now, I still have my eyes on earning a master’s degree in music, but I want it to be a major in composition.

And now, I actually feel encouraged to continue this path. My first love was the guitar, and forever I will love the instrument, and playing it, but as I mature, I have developed something more than just being a guitarist. I wanted to create music now. To explore. To find out the world of music that I so wanted to explore and uncover. I want to create music. I want to. For every kind. A symphony, a fugue, anything. Everything. I want to reach everything. And finally, I want every musical instrument to sing the glory of the Lord.

I will compose for His glory and His alone. Not mine.

I now start on this path. I will continue treading it. I know composing and arranging is not easy, but my heart is ready to tread the world that is yet to be charted. Music is a world bigger than earth itself, and I am ready to see for myself that beautiful world.

Music, o music. Why have you captivated me?

An artistic realization beyond what I thought I would be.

To create. That is an artiste’s true call.

Feastday: September 2

Born in Skänninge, Sweden, in the 13th century, St. Ingrid lived under the spiritual direction of Peter of Dacia, a Dominican priest. She was the first Dominican nun in Sweden and in 1281 she founded the first Dominican cloister there, called St. Martin’s in Skänninge. She died in 1282 surrounded by an aura of sanctity.

Miracles obtained through her intercession followed and led to a popular cult of this saint.

In 1405, a canonization process was begun and the Swedish Bishops introduced her cause at the Council of Constance. An inquest was held in Sweden in 1416-1417 and the results were inconclusive.

In 1497, the cause was reactivated and in 1507 her relics were solemnly translated, and a Mass and Office were composed – but formal canonization seems never to have occurred. During the Reformation, her cult came to an end and her convent and relics were destroyed.

“You ready talk yet you japanese bastard?” Mac Gregor spat as he stood over a bruised and beaten half naked Kageyama tied down to a chair in a dark cold room of the ship. I still wasn’t allowed to directly interact with him at least while Mac Gregor was around. But it was the only time I was allowed to be in the room any other time was strictly forbidden. But Wolfe and Slim would turn the other cheek.

But I think Mac Gregor caught wind of it, yesterday Wolfe was paired up with Antenori to watch the door and Slim was paired up with Winston, and neither Anentori or Winston were about to let me in there to talk to him.

The last we got to speak in there… his answers were cryptic at best.

He talked about being given no choice but to work with him. Saying that if he hadn’t sold himself to him he would never be able to make things right. He told me he was a fool for thinking in such a way.

As far as I could tell… revenge turned him to this life. To become part of Rainbow… but it was that section that he wasn’t not talking about. He refused to tell us what they did to him…. what he did for them… he just refused to cooperate with anything relating with the work he provided. And that was more than enough reason for Mac Gregor to lock him down. As well as being a good enough basis to have me relieved of my command until the time the team as a whole see that I’m fit for duty.

I doubt that was going to be happening anytime soon, so for now Mac Gregor was running the show. And he was a stern man especially to him. I just pleaded that he didn’t cut Kageyama’s fingers off and so far he hasn’t but until Kageyama gives Mac Gregor what Mac Gregor wants to hear it’s going to be a constant threat.

And I understood Kageyama well enough to know that he would probably lose his whole hand before he spoke. Whatever he was keeping a secret wasn’t going to be brought out with threat and violence. He had lived the life long enough to become immune to it.

Of the girls only Ms.Baskov was allowed to approach him and take care of him. It bothered me seeing her touch him… but at least I knew she was going to do everything in her power to keep him alive. I don’t think she thinks ill of him… but I don’t think Ms.Baskov really thinks ill of anyone. She really is a wonderful person because of that… someone really out of place in the apocalypse.

The interrogation lasted for nearly the whole day and part of the night. Kageyama was barely given any food, drink, or rest through out the time. Mac Gregor even setup a radio down in the room to fill the place with white noise while they were away. It was classic method of breaking people but I don’t think we can break him… because he’s already been broken long ago.

“Who are you? What did you do for Rainbow?” Mac Gregor yelled at him. Waiting only for a few seconds before punching him across the jaw and in the gut, Reiji letting out groans of pain and coughing up bits of blood. “What did you do for Rainbow you lousy sod!”

But again he didn’t say anything. Besides just telling mac Gregor, his name, unit, rank, date of birth, and serial number. He barely said anything more to Mac Gregor through the whole time he was trapped down here.

I wanted to step in. I wanted to stop everything. But at the same time I wanted him to just answer the damn questions. I don’t know what was the reason for his refusal to cooperate with us. I’m not sure if he may really have had some loyalty left in him to Rainbow. But if he did… why send us all the way to tokyo? Was it just really an elaborate ruse to remove a renegade Rainbow Operative the mother company had no more control of? Was it just revenge? There were so many whys coming to mind.

But every time I tried to speak up or step in, Mac Gregor was quick to shut me up with a killer glance and a reminder that if I spoke up I wouldn’t be allowed in there anymore. I hated being in there but… I think it helped Kageyama knowing he wasn’t alone.

But he was losing supporters quick. Slim and Sam are having their doubts about him as well as Heather while the rest who ha doubted him before are now more then pleased of their suspicions being made true.

I’m pretty sure they were talking behind my back about it. Cracking more than few officer jokes mixed with a few sexist remarks that were not uncommon from Charlie team. I ignored them though, spending the day in only one of two places, the interrogation room and my holding room at the opposite end of the ship. I wasn’t allowed to assist anyone or enter any work for the time being.

I don’t know how long I was crying and praying last night. Hoping this was just all some nightmare within a nightmare. That I’d just wake up and everything would be back to how it was.

But that’s not going to happen. For now if Kageyama wasn’t going to be put down like rabid animal he was going to be on a short tight leash. He wouldn’t even be able to breath or piss himself without them knowing.

He was completely dehumanized under our care. It was strange… I remember doing such things before when we dealt with terrorist and criminals overseas. It didn’t bother me… and sometimes I even enjoyed it. It was a sick pleasure but it was nice knowing the bastards were getting more then a fair share of hurt.

Kageyama was supposed to be no different. Takeshi knew him… and called him the prodigal son. He called Kageyama his greatest creation and ordered him around like he was just that, a subordinate under him. Kageyama was defiant of the orders but he didn’t contradict his claim and even now he doesn’t… and honestly I think the last time we spoke he essentially admitted being part of Rainbow…

Reiji… those graves. The questions you asked me. Did you really give up your humanity and side with Rainbow just for revenge. Did you really sell your soul for a chance to slaughter your enemies in some attempt to honor your fallen dead.

I’m sure if they could see you right now… they’d hate you just as much as Mac Gregor. You must have been so angry… so desperate… so alone. You must have really cared for your friends to have done this… or was it because of that girl.. Catherine. Your reason to smile.

I wish you would just answer the questions. And just let Mac Gregor hear those answers. Then maybe he can stop hurting you so much.

You idiot…. I don’t care how tough you are… you’re going to die.

Davoren… what should I do? I feel like I’m losing everything and everyone. I feel so lost an unsure of myself. I wish you were here to hold my hand and just let me know you were there.

God damn it… how did everything suddenly get so complicated.

….

We should be arriving in the Philippine Archipelago soon enough. Mac Gregor’s plans our point of entry to be Subic bay. Hopefully we’ll meet some friendly forces since the place use to be a former base. Honestly I’m pretty sure it’s in a horrible state but if there were any resistance groups left composed of people form the base they might just be willing to provide some assistance.

And honestly I think we’d be better of trying our luck there than anywhere else in Asia. I think there was a reported Rainbow installation in the southern end of the country. But before that we’ll be needing supplies and resources, I’m pretty sure Sigma Six is out there looking for us, hopefully we might have given them the slip back in Japan.

I hope the ronin are ok over there. I hated having to just leave them… but I think they’ll be much safe without us around after seeing what we did in the Tokyo… at least their mad man’s gone including the facility and all the means to produce TS-109. Japan finally has a chance to start recovering.

I don’t know what Mac Gregor’s plan is right now. But I’m pretty sure he’s probably more interested in hitting back then hunting Rainbow. He wants revenge for those kids we lost.

I do to… but I don’t want to end up like how Kageyama is now. I don’t want to ever become that desperate. But someone will be… we have to stop Rainbow. One thing the Task Force and us share in common but we’re on their to kill list and of course we’re retuning the favor.

I guess the enemy of my enemy can also be my enemy.

We need some sort of good news soon.

Hope situation down in the Philippines is better than what we encountered in Japan.

September 2, 1885: The Rock Springs Massacre takes place. Also called the Rock Spring Riots, this event took place near present day Rock Springs, Wyoming. The Union Pacific Coal Company was owned by the Union Pacific Railway and was founded in 1874. The railway needed coal for steam engines and their previous supplier was engaged in price gouging. After opening their own mining company, miners were needed to work the mines. There was an influx of workers in the area coming from China. While immigrants were not equally spaced along the west coast, they were coming into the region to find work.

By 1884 there were about 100,000 Chinese workers along the west coast. The first Chinese in Wyoming worked on the railroad. They were extremely diligent and prized workers even at less pay than Americans or European immigrant workers. The Chinese went from working on the railroad to working in the mines – again at lower pay. There was widespread bigotry, not just in Wyoming but throughout the Old West. The Chinese were seen as slight in build and less worthy than rough and tumble Americans or Europeans. Because there were good jobs to be had in the mines, more Chinese came to the area.

The Chinese in Rock Spring also held jobs outside the mining industry, one as a priest and another as a doctor. Racial tensions were escalating. As more Chinese immigrants came to work the mines, the Cornish, Irish, Welsh, and Swedish immigrants blamed them for lowering wages. Prior to this, there had been no race riots and the owners took no precautions to protect the Chinese. In 1882, the Knights of Labor had worked for a Chinese Exclusion Act, but they were not implicated in this riot.

At 7 AM on this day, ten white men in miners’ dress came to work and claimed the Chinese had no right to be there. A fight broke out with one Chinese worker eventually dying from the beating he received. Work resumed until 10 AM when workers gathered at the Knights of Labor hall. By 2 PM, saloons filled to overflowing with miners opted to close and those inside were forced into the streets. About 150 armed white men invaded Chinatown and began to assault the Chinese there. By evening, 28 Chinese workers were confirmed dead and another 15 were wounded. Chinatown was in ruins and about $147,000 of property damage was done.

Up to the time of the recent troubles we had worked along with the white men, and had not had the least ill feeling against them.

Several times we had been approached by the white men and requested to join them in asking the companies for an increase in the wages of all, both Chinese and white men. We inquired of them what we should do if the companies refused to grant an increase. They answered that if the companies would not increase our wages we should all strike, then the companies would be obliged to increase our wages. To this we dissented, wherefore we excited their animosity against us.

The Chinese present reasoned with them in a few words, but were attacked with murderous weapons, and three of their number wounded.

Some of the rioters, when they could not stop a Chinese, would shoot him dead on the spot, and then search and rob him. Some would overtake a Chinese, throw him down and search and rob him before they would let him go. – all from Memorial of Chinese Laborers

459 – Simeon Stylites died. Christian ascetic saint who achieved fame for living 37 years on a small platform on top of a pillar near Aleppo in Syria. Several other stylites later followed his model (the Greek word style means pillar) and he is known formally as Saint Simeon Stylites the Elder to distinguish him from Simeon Stylites the Younger and Simeon Stylites III.

.

1666 – The Great Fire of London started. It gutted the medieval City of London inside the old Roman City Wall and threatened, but did not reach, the aristocratic district of Westminster, Charles II’s Palace of Whitehall, and most of the suburban slums. It consumed 13,200 houses, 87 parish churches, St. Paul’s Cathedral and most of the buildings of the City authorities.

It is estimated to have destroyed the homes of 70,000 of the City’s 80,000 inhabitants. The death toll is unknown but traditionally thought to have been small, as only six verified deaths were recorded. This reasoning has recently been challenged on the grounds that the deaths of poor and middle-class people were not recorded, while the heat of the fire may have cremated many victims leaving no recognisable remains.

.

1752 – England abandoned the Julian Calendar, by now 11 days behind the Solar year, and a bit of re-jiggling was in order. Thus the population went to sleep on September 2nd and woke up on 14th September.

1946 – Billy Preston born. American musician whose work included R&B, rock, soul, funk and gospel. He became known first as a session musician with artists such as Sam Cooke, Ray Charles and The Beatles, and was later successful as a solo artist with such hit pop singles as “Space Race”, “Will It Go Round in Circles” and “Nothing from Nothing”, and a string of albums and guest appearances with artists like Eric Clapton and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Alongside Tony Sheridan, Billy Preston was the only other musician to be credited on a Beatles recording: the artists on the number-one hit “Get Back” are given as “The Beatles with Billy Preston”.

Another sensational day of Paralympic sport is lined up for your viewing pleasure on day four of the London Games, with plenty of British gold medal prospects in action throughout.

All eyes will be on David Weir (above) and Shelly Woods at the Olympic Stadium as they look to make it a golden double in the T54 5000m (men’s race at 9.50pm, women’s at 10.40am).

But the blockbuster moment could well come at 9.15pm when Oscar Pistorius goes for his first gold of these Games in the T44 200m.

Rower Tom Aggar should kickstart the GB medal rush at Eton Dorney when he puts his unbeaten record on the line in the single sculls final (9.50am).

Failure to win gold would be a huge surprise. Nick Beighton and Sam Scowen go in the in mixed double sculls final (10.10am) and the mixed coxed four go for gold at 1030 BST.

It’s the final day of action at the Velodrome and there are Great Britain medal chances in every race.

The team sprint team of Jon-Allan Butterworth, Darren Kenny and Rik Waddon (final at 3.30pm) could make it a glorious finale at the venue nicknamed the Pringle.

In table tennis, world number 2 Will Bayley plays for the Class 7 gold medal against Germany’s Jochen Wollmert at 5.15pm, and there should be more gold at the equestrian where Sophie Wells (Grade IV, 9am), Deb Criddle (Grade III, 1.45pm), and Sophie Christiansen (Grade 1a, 4.15pm) are all contenders, and GB will also find out if they have been successful in the equestrian team event, which would give Lee Pearson a 10th gold medal.

At the Olympic Stadium, Libby Clegg is one of Britain’s brightest hopes for gold in the T12 100m (7.55pm), Stef Reid goes for glory in the F42/44 long jump (10.10am) as well as the T44 100m (9.30pm), shot bronze medallist Aled Davies is after some more metal in the F42 discus (11.50am) and Katrina Hart and Jenny McLoughlin could both be in contention in the T37 100m (8.15pm).

Stef Reid, who took the decision to compete for Britain in 2010 after representing Canada at the 2008 Games, goes for glory in the F42/44 long jump (10.10am).

The 27-year-old came fifth in Beijing, but did win a bronze medal in the 200m. Reid squares up against Australia’s world record holder Kelly Cartwright and European champion Suzan Verduijn, from the Netherlands.

Another highlight of the evening session will be Ben Rushgrove goes up against GB team-mate Graeme Ballard in the T36 100m (7.50pm).
