Sequined cardigans are no longer just the domain of evening wear. Everyone from the characters on Gossip Girl to your suburban mall fashionistas are wearing them– for day and night– no shades required.

With New Year’s coming up (and the Boxing Day sales) this is a perfect time to add one to your wardrobe, or pull out the one you have been hiding away.
There are so many variations out there. Stick with black, gold or silver, or a more colourful choice. If you’re not up for competing with the disco ball, just a touch of sparkle detail can equally do the trick!

Fabric Crosses

Lady of Guadalup Cross I made from my in-law’s. This one bows for some reason. I don’t know what to do to keep them from bowing. The bigger crosses bow more than the smaller ones. The flowers are from the wedding section of Hobby Lobby. I attached them with hot glue. Ribbon was also attached with hot glue. This fabric was from Jo-Ann’s.

Smaller cloth covered cross with cupcake decorations modified. I bought the cake decorations on clearance at K-mart when they closed their bakery. I bought several small ziplock baggies full of them for 50 cents each. I just snapped off the inserts on the back.

Another button cross with the green fabric. The fabric was from Walmart. It was about $3.44 a yard.

I hot glued the buttons on the cross. Most of the buttons came from Hobby Lobby and a few that someone gave me awhile back.

Sequins and ribbon on the edge of cross.

Fabric cross with felt butterflies, paper flowers (bought on clearance at Walmart — don’t think they carry them any more), and ribbon on edge. I put paper on the back to cover the fabric edges. I also used silicon to put a triangle hanger on the back.

Fabric cross I made for my parents. This one bows also. I used Mod Podge to put the fabric on the foam core board (front and back). Used Mod Podge for the paper on the back to cover the fabric. I used hot glue to put on the ribbon on the edge, the flowers, and extra ribbon within the flowers.

I did about eight or nine crosses. Two big ones and the rest were smaller. Most of them were the straight edge crosses. I only did two of the fancy crosses. I saw one at K.K.’s Crafters Mall that were similar. She covered with cloth and I think she used foam core board. She made them about the same size of the big crosses. She decorated them and charged $25 each. Then she had painted canvas with smaller fabric covered crosses on them. She added matching ribbon on the top and bottom of the canvas. To hang, she had the matching ribbon attached to the back of the canvas with a bow at the point where you needed to hang it. She charged $25 each for these also. I loved the shape of her crosses. I wanted to buy one, but not for $25 each. Also I have seen crosses bought from Hobby Lobby attached to canvas with collages or painted backgrounds. They want $35 to $45 each. Also they buy the crosses at Hobby Lobby and resale them at K.K.’s which I thought it was illegal to do this. They don’t alter them in any way. They just sale them.

Next post will be my canvas projects for the family. I took the idea of the crosses put on the canvas except I made it with a twist….no crosses. I did something else. :)

It’s been a while…I have not been so overwhelmed with a collection like I was with Lelutka’s. Not a surprise? There were a couple of things that made this sunday, an epic fashion day. From the background music (which was perfect), the organization (which was flawless), the detail of making the guests dress in same outfit (decreasing the lag and suiting the mood of the show), to the models structing their way down the runway, and letting us (poor slow rezzers) see the details of each outfit, and of course the whole Lelutka collection. Adding to all this, I was thrilled to see a good friend (anya ohmai) doing an amazing collab with LeLutka and being able to show (to a wider clientele) her awesome skills and creativity! What a breathe of fresh air there!..I was especially surprised with the attention on the details of each outfit. The harnesses, the shown skirt cages, neck pieces, corsets! Details that made this collection rarely unique, from all I’ve seen so far in sl. From ancient roman inspiration (in metal torso and helmet coverages but without the obvious drapping inspiration) , to victorian details like corsets and lace and inspirations like alexander mcqueen’s aw 09, and even more futuristic cyborg-ish details or the balmain shoulders… Lelutka’s collection incorporated all the ‘rl trends’, feathers, metal, fringes, spikes, lace, flower prints, nude tones, shoulder pads, not so understated accessories, in one concize collection. The best part of this, is knowing, it can all be mixed and matched and worn in a more ‘day to day’ basics or (and) by any kind style we’re into. Try it, have fun. <3 Uma

By now, we’re all familiar with the glamorous evening gown worn by Michelle Obama at their first White House State dinner. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

After successfully completing final exams, I am ready for some much need relaxation, lazy snow days, and shopping (obviously!) Here are my top 10 picks for the holiday season:

1. Kate Spade – ‘Fiona’ bow slippers (Bloomingdales, $95) Are these not the most festive ballet flats you’ve ever seen?! They look like presents! And who doesn’t love presents?!

2. Erica Anenberg – ‘Je T’aime’ double ring (Max and Chloe, $63) I’ve been obsessing over Erica Anenberg’s ‘twosome’ rings. Hollywood starlets such as Anna Lynn McCord and Kristin Cavallari have been spotting wearing them around tinseltown.

3. Son of John – ‘The Striker’ baseball tee with sequin pocket (Shopbop, $121) Yes, expensive for a tee shirt, I’ll give you that. I just couldn’t resist including it because the sequins add a girly twist to the classic “I borrowed this from my boyfriend” look.

4. Deena & Ozzy – Suede over-the-knee boots (Urban Outfitters, $108) Over-the-knee boots are what’s in style this season. Urban Outfitters brings us this affordable AND cute pair.

5. Brian Danielle – Diamond protection pendant necklace (Max and Chloe, $619) If you know me at all, then you know I can’t get enough of jewelry with hamsas. Any diamonds that can ward off evil are perfection in my book.

6. Botkier – Convertible satchel (Zappos, $454) Such a great bag for every day…and I <3 Botkier leather.

7. Lippman Collection – Nail laquer in ‘Don’t Tell Mama’ (Lippman Collection, $16) This shimmery mood ring blue/green color is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. I love dark, unique shades. It’s Kelly Ripa’s favorite stocking stuffer, and sold out right now, but it will be back soon! I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

8. Sam Edelman – ‘York’ platform pump (Nordstrom, $199.95) Being that I’m only 5′1, platform pumps are a wardrobe staple of mine. I love this suede pair from Sam Edelman, complete with glam jewels and studs. SO ROCKSTAR!

9. Free City – Sweatpants (Free City Supershop, $148) The ultimate comfy pair of sweats. Perfect for lounging around.

10. Joe’s Jeans – ‘The legging jeans’ (Shopbop, $92) Jeggings…the perfect solution to obtaining comfort without sacrificing style.

And that concludes my holiday wish list. Now, if only I had enough cash…

Oh well, Chanukah Harry knows I’ve been good this year.

So maybe I’m a little late in the game, but 2010 is, like, soon. It feels like only yesterday that I was sitting on my daybed thinking, “this is the last time we can sing ‘Tonight We’re Gonna Party Like it’s 1999′” as I placed 5 too many butterfly clips into my hair and rocked out in my platform gym shoes.

God I feel old.

But I digress. New Year’s Eve is hands down the best excuse to dress up. But that doesn’t mean you gotta splurge on some hot frock that will look great in pictures, but not so great sitting in the back of your closet for the next 2 years because you have nowhere to wear it again. There are plenty of ways to spice up your look for the big night by adding some fun pieces to the stuff you already own. Here are just a few not-a-dress options to ring in the big 20-10.

Skirt:
You gotta rock something shiny on NYE, and this skirt is just perfect. I love red and gold together, which is why I paired this shimmery skirt with a basic red tank. But if red is only your color when your monthly friend comes to visit, throw on a basic black scoop tank or tee, black tights and pumps and this look is good to go.

OK, so it may be a problem when your New Year’s Kiss wants to get busy…or when you drink too much champagne and have to go to the bathroom every 3 minutes, but it’s probably the most versatile piece you could pick up for the big night. Just think of all the other places you could work this thing. And, really, you can sparkle it up as much or as little as you want. Add a big, bold necklace. Throw on some bangles. Slip into a bright colored shoe. And roll into the new year without looking like you tried too hard.

Sequin Leggins: The Down Side

Not all amazingly wonderful trends have longevity. Sequin leggings may be one of those trends. While I love anything that sparkles (really, who doesn’t?), I learned the hard way that sequin leggings are the least practical item you’ll ever put on your legs (make that second, the first being drop-crotch pants). Unless you are stomping down the runways during New York fashion week I’ll bet your legs rub against each other every once in a while, or you cross your legs, sit in a car, etc. Should any of those things happen you can bet your sequins will get stuck together inevitably ripping your leggings. I made it through a whole evening before accidentally gluing my legs together in my car. Not ready to give up on sequined leggings? There is a solution! Say hello to sequin trim leggings.

222. Shop my past, mustard motif, holiday/birthday looks in sequins, mesh, & falling on my bum

Sequin sweater from ages ago, thrifted plaid sailor shorts, Uniqlo mustard stockings with crazy runs, & my mom’s new Gucci riding boots.

I’m selling my past. Kidding, but I’m selling some of my favorite clothes from the past. Like these plaid, sailor button up shorts that I wore all the time in San Francisco with cowboy boots & my 70’s sweaters. I’m wearing them here with my sequin bow sweater that my mom bought me and I wore all the time with little plaid skirts in college.

Once, I wore it with this blue toggle coat to the campus cafe and I ran into my friend Tony & his friend Marie, who I later found out gave me one of the best/worst compliments I’ve ever received in my life. I won’t repeat it here, it’s not PG, and I’m not a gadabout.

Yesterday, I wore these shorts with my mom’s new boots (how amazing is her taste?) and my favorite scarf that my friend Karan bought for me in India. I was inspired by recent menswear inspired outfits (oops, two ‘inspired’ in one sentence, now three) by the magnificent Kennedy Holmes, Maria at Lulu Letty, & Rhiannon at Liebemarlene to put together my own menswear inspired outfit (now four) but something felt weird. I think it was the cameltoe. Kidding. I think I’ll leave menswear inspired outfits to the tall, graceful (hi Kennedy), long-legged (hi Rhiannon) ladies who know how to put on make-up flawlessly (hi Maria), and I’ll keep counterbalancing my squalid face with dresses and skirts.

Also, new in the shop is a 50’s cardigan & two holiday/New Years dresses from my closet.

My dad’s birthday is tomorrow, technically today now. Happy birthday, dad! I love you so much. We’re going to eat Malaysian food and see a show in Manhattan. Next week is my birthday, which is the same day as Christmas, which is the same day as my brother’s birthday.

A few birthdays’/Christmas’ ago, I believe when I turned 21, I wore this Betsey Johnson dress with a little H&M shrug. Neither my brother nor I really care about celebrations, least of all birthday celebrations. Although, I can’t tell if my brother really doesn’t care or if it’s just not fun to be born into sharing a birthday with your sister (and also Christmas/Jesus.) Last year, we made our parents promise not to use the word birthday or do anything celebratory. They couldn’t even laugh at funny jokes because it was too ‘mirth-like’ for my brother. I’ll try not to be so severe this year as my cousin & her friend are coming & I got my mom the best Christmas gift & can’t wait for her to open it.

I usually hate hair spray. I was scarred by my senior year roommate who sprayed an entire massive can of extra hold spray into her hair on a daily basis. In fact, if I close my eyes I can still taste the left-over mist in my mouth. It really made it a joy to pee…and shower… for a year. I so badly wanted to tell her that 80s bangs and poofy hair left with – uh – the 80s, but instead, I added hairspray to my food diary… and held my breath for dear life every time I had to go near the bathroom.

But, the fact is, sometimes, a girl needs some spray. When you’re curling your hair, when you have a Jew fro (unfortch, me), when you need to tame fly-aways without making your hair look like you just rubbed grease all over it…

Enter from stage left: the best new hairspray ever from beauty giant, L’Oreal. Apparently Europe has been in The Know on this stuff for years, but some ingredient made it illegal to sell in the U.S. Not anymore! With a new formula this bad boy is on shelves nationwide and, once everyone is in The Know, it will be flying off said shelves quite soon. It’s non-sticky, non-smelly, and specially formulated for all different types of hair. Now my hair looks good and my tongue is not coated with some stank taste of product. Mission accomplished.

When leggings first came into trend, I stole a pair I found buried in my mom’s drawer of 90s puff-paint sweatshirts and pin-on accessories. Truth. But regardless of their roots, they are my favorite leggings I own and the only ones I wear. Every single day. But can you blame me? They suck everything in and make my legs look damn good while still being comfortable enough that I feel like I have room to eat that extra cookie. And still look good.

I’ve wanted another pair forever (because wearing the same pants every day is gross) but whatever 90s company made them no longer exists. But, hollerrrr, I recently learned that the brand Danskin makes leggings that do the exact same thing. Calf or ankle length, these Supplex leggings are a must-have for your wardrobe. You’ll look hot, your butt won’t jiggle when you walk and you can even work them at the gym.

Lippman Collections’ Happy Birthday Nail Polish
I will be the first to admit that $20 is a lot to spend on a nail polish. But Lippman Collections’ Happy Birthday may be worth it. It’s multi-colored glitter makes your finger nails look like your 3rd grade art project and, really, who doesn’t want that? Could it be I’m so into this shade because I want revenge for the time in 7th grade I brought home gold glitter Hard Candy nail polish and my mom yelled at me and told me no daughter of hers would wear that crap on her nails and then made me return it? Sure. But I also think it’s pretty, it’s shiny, it’s fun and it’s the perfect holiday party/NYE polish. And if you like the idea of shimmer but sequins aren’t your thing, this is a great way to add some shine without looking like you’re wearing a dance costume (says the girl who is typing this while sporting her sequined black and gold headband from her 2001 dance costume…).

I don’t know about yall, but for me this week has been crazy busy and I have a feeling it’s only going to get worse through the end of the year! I actually feel guilty about not being able to blog as much which made me realize how much I really care about A Wonderfelle World. I just can’t fathom making the institutional investment for one night of fun (or even two or three)… So it’s a retail win for me! Do your New Year’s plans call for sequins?

London clothing company has bunch of new tops in sequins and ruffles.
Ruched Fabric in the right places can either hide the flab , or accentuate the body in various ways

i saw catwalk had a few tops that were cut to either hide your unsightly bulge or accentuate ur hips and bust.
