Working as a part of testing project, we are addicted to use QC ( Quality Centre), but if its not in use for say half an hour or so, the user gets logged out. And each time we need to login again , was discussing this with one of my team members when I said, google should buy this QC atleast we’ll be getting a better service(Once logged in aso it takes hell lot of time to move from one tab to another).

Then I thought I’m so much addicted to “google and its services” I mean my homepage is google.com, if I have to tell anyone my email id I just tell the address and dont specify the provider as “gmail” is now default. I had yahoo login but dont even remember now what’s its userid/password as GTALK is there. I ‘m using blogger since last three years, picasa to upload pics, reader to get all feeds, google docs to save all my documents, adsense to earn money, calendar to set reminders for birthdays/aniversary/appoinments, orkut for social networking, translate to punch in “hindi”words, you tube to see so many videos…. now we have google wave and above all there is google.com to SEARCH

Could I ( or rather we IT People) imagine a life without google? Or is its just that I’m addicted?

Are you guys aware is there is new termninology for “google addiction”?

What People Are Tweeting About – eMarketer

Finding the signal in the noise

What is the purpose of Twitter? Social media marketers have been trying to answer that question as they use the microblogging service to promote their brands and products.

The general wisdom is that Twitter is great for conversations and self-promotions. But critics of the 140-character medium have some support from an August 2009 Pear Analytics study of the site’s public timeline.

The marketing analytics firm placed each tweet in one of six categories, and the big winner was “pointless babble”—what Pear Analytics referred to as “the ‘I am eating a sandwich now’ tweets.” More than 40% of all tweets monitored fell into this grouping.

Conversational tweets—those part of a dialogue between users or starting with the “@” symbol—made up another 37.55% of tweets. Tweets with pass-along value, also known as “retweets,” were much less prevalent, at 8.7%, and self-promotional messages made up just 5.85% of the total. Spam and news were even rarer.

Tweets with pass-along value, important for marketers hoping to get their messages distributed as far and wide as possible, were highest on Mondays and Wednesdays, when they made up about 10% of the tweets per day.

Marketers should note, however, that qualitative categorizations have a degree of subjectivity. For example, Pear Analytics’ news category excluded news about technology and social media. And whenever a tweet might fall into multiple categories but began with “@,” it was deemed conversational.

“With the new face of Twitter, it will be interesting to see if they take a heavier role in news, or continue to be a source for people to share their current activities that have little to do with everyone else,” wrote Ryan Kelly on the Pear Analytics blog.

Scribd is a huge user-generated database of eBooks and community of writers. Due to the huge volume of eBooks it contains and also being user-generated in nature, it is not so easy to find something valuable there. You can try to browse its groups. There are several really cool groups there found for search each containing really good books.

The pdfstack.com is a simple search engine that is employed as a special tool in the search of e-books. The pdf search engine with a massive database of over 70 million files is growing by the day as nearly one fourth of a million files being added on a daily basis. PDF search. The search is done continually without any interruptions for causes like copy right violations. The website also lists the last 100 search and their search results to give the readers an idea of what browsers are looking for and to appreciate the diverse subjects and languages the searches have been made in.

PDFdatabase claims to contain more than 7 million pdf and doc files. The search is quite fast and focused. The search results are pretty self-explanatory: you will see the document name, size, the full URL, the related search tags and the download link.

Search engine optimization is a process by which information from your company’s web site and other online materials are “tagged” in order to ensure that the information is more readily found by “natural search” results. It’s a relatively simple process. The higher the content ranks in a search, the better the likelihood it will be accessed.

This simple process has not gone unnoticed by the online community. As search engines have grown in popularity and influence, an increasing amount of companies are allocating money to optimizing entire web sites. The problem is as the effectiveness of web site optimization becomes more apparent, those companies that provide SEO services are charging more for their services. So, how can a small business with limited resources reap the rewards of optimization without breaking the bank?

Las palabras más buscadas en el Perú este año son:

-hi5 (es por eso que casi todos los peruanos entre 14 y 25 años tienen hi5)

-juegos (acaso creían que iba a estar Wikipedia?)
