Back for more baby let’s do this. By the way, today I finally reached comment 2000. That

Back for more baby let’s do this. By the way, today I finally reached comment 2000. That’s pretty crappy considering this site is almost a year old. On to the good stuff.

Samurai 7 -Shimada Kambei

*This show was dropped at 23

In the actual live action/originally film done by Akira Kurosawa (which was absolutely brilliant), my favorite character was quite easily Kikuchiyo, but they turned him into a fucking stupid Robot in this one, which not only made me angry, but mad, flustered, perturbed, and angry as well (not to mention angry). Of course, the characters weren’t all that bad in this anime, but the immensely slow pacing and lack of any type of action/points of intrigue were a problem, and the main reason why I dropped the show (the whole robot adaptation thing also pissed me off a bit, and seemed kind of corny and stupid to me).

I’ll go ahead and say that Kambei is my favorite character, just because he looks like the man, and acts like the man, and thus, is the man. He’s also a nasty fighter.

Samurai Champloo – Mugen

Well let’s see, considering that Mugen is my header, I’d say that most people could tell beforehand who I was going to choose here. Mugen is the man. Mugen kicks ass. Mugen is voiced by Kazuya Nakai.

The End.

Wait: Mugen is fucking awesome, and one of the best characters ever, which can also be said for the series.

The End for real.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (all seasons) -Matoi Tsunetsuki

Before I even begin this, I will say that the cast of SZS is the best that I have seen ever, besides Hayate and maybe FMA. I honestly could put almost any character in a top spot for almost any other show. but among the many awesome characters, My favorite would have to be Matoi Tsunetsuki, because, quite obviously, she’s a stalker, and stalkers rule (in anime). She stalks whoever she falls in love with, and she has fallen in love with Nozomu, and thusly always shows up at points where you least expect, because she’s literally always stalking Nozomu. It’s great. I give her the ASA (Anime Stalker Award) for her great performance at being a stalker.

Other Notables:

Chiri Kitsu – Crazy Bitch.

Abiru Kobushi – Bandage Girl who steals tails from animals.

Kiri Komori – Hikikomori girl, except instead of staying at home, she stays at school, wrapped in a blanket.

Never mind Notables. I would have to name every single character. God I love this show.

School Days – Kotonoha Katsura

Meet Kotonoha, a quiet girl for the most part. She is generally shy around people, and it takes a LOT for her to actually confess to the main character, Makoto. Eventually the two date, and couldn’t be happier. Then a few small things happen, and when it’s all said and done, she is carrying around Makoto’s head in a dufflebag, and even killed her rival for Makoto’s affections. What a dynamic character.

Sengoku Basara – Nobunaga Oda

I really, REALLY, shouldn’t have to explain this one, but I will anyway:

Voiced by Norio Wakamoto.

Drinks for a fucking SKULL.

Kills EVERYTHING.

Doesn’t give a SHIT (about killing whoever, whenever).

Just fucking awesome.

I’m done!

Serial Experiments: Lain – Lain

In this, completely awesome show, which is one of the coolest shows I’ve seen, Lain is probably one of the most dynamic characters that I’ve seen. At the start of the series, Lain is nothing more than a shy 14-year-old girl, living a seemingly normal life, until she’s introduced to The Wired (kind of like the internet). From here, she…….well….I don’t want to ruin it in case no one’s seen this show (go watch it now), but Lain changes in several ways. personally, I loved this anime’s complexity and how it dealt with the definition of reality, along with the definition of one’s self (did I even get that right?).

I kinda want to re watch this now.

Shakugan no Shana – Shana

Well, not a big surprise here. Shana, besides being one of Rie Kugimiya’s most well-known characters, is actually one of the best tsundere characters…..ever. I’m sure by now most people know that I really really really really like Shakugan no Shana, and all of its characters are great, but Shana? Pffffffff. Fagetaboutttt it. First there’s the character design. Although it’s pretty much the norm for most Rie Kugimiya characters (short, no breasts), Shana is a Flame Haze, and is generally awesome when she decides to get serious. Here hair pretty much turns to fire, and she looks fucking awesome. Then of course there’s her.

As a character, Shana has a lot on her plate. Not only does she slice up the bad guys with an awesome SAMURAI SWORD, but she also deals with adapting to human interaction (or I guess Torch interaction at first). In the beginning, she seemed pretty apathetic when a person died or became a torch, but through interacting with Yuji, she begins to change, and develops feelings of love and friendship (honestly that’s not even a reason why I like her, I just like her because she looks cool, kicks ass, and is played by Rie Kugimiya).

The second season was pretty shitty, and Shana kind of got annoying (as did all of the characters) until they started fighting, where Shana suddenly became fucking awesome again, and whooped ass.

Shaman King – Anna Kyoyama

She is Yoh’s fiancée by arranged marriage, and is pretty much awesome, because she is such a bitch, but at the same time, you can tell that she has genuine feelings for Yoh. She is always the person who has to whip Yoh into shape and force him to get his ass in gear, and she also demands. See the picture above? That’s her general demeanor. She rarely smiles. Oh, and yes, she has powers.

I didn’t have much to say about her, but despite that, she’s actually one of my favorite characters (I’m not going to try and rank her, but out of all the characters on this list, she’d be in the better half of them.

Shikabane Hime – Hokuto

First and foremost, as you can tell, she’s a crazy bitch. Considering that she’s a Shikabane with no regrets, or feelings whatsoever, she treats everything like a kid seeing something for the first time. Except she’s a kid who likes to just kill everything. If you say, “Kill that person,” then she’ll start laughing, and kill that person, and not just kill them, but shred them to pieces. It’s a nice trait to have.

Point number two, look at her eyes. They’re inverted, which is like heterochromia to another level. AWESOME. Not to mention the white hair and the crazy red mark on the left of her face (her left). She’s just one more reason to like Shikabane Hime (which was good).

Simoun – Aer

Aer is the best. Neviril is the worst. That is how it goes with me. In case you didn’t read the picture title, Aer is the one on the left (your left). What makes this whore so special?

Well first of all, she’s a whore. Okay that’s not true, but as far as characters go, she was one character that was upbeat and fun, and helped make this anime become really good. She really went at Neviril (in a lesbian way, although not technically), and that’s something I can respect. not much more to say here, but I do want to touch on he show a little bit.

Simoun was a great show (even though I got a bit confused by the ending). But to say that it’s yuri? Meh. Not really. You see, in their world, all people are born as females, and then later choose to be males, or remain as females. So technically, nothing is really yuri from the stand point of the characters. Any relationships (or most anyway) that form between these girls usually would not be yuri, because one of the girls would more than likely eventually decide to become a man (gotta make babies). Of course, this show still managed to produce a set of lesbian incest girls, but that’ Japan for you.

I understand that that explanation sucked. But I sort of, kind of got out what I was trying to say.

Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo – Honoko Kawai

I’m beginning to think that all shows starting with the letter “S” are instantly awesome. I like almost every single show on this list so far, albeit the first one. Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo is no different. Great show, great cast, great greatness. I almost picked Jun Fukuyama’s character, which was almost like a robot version of Lelouch, albeit funnier (I need to stop saying “albeit”), but in the end, Honoka’s greatness could not be overcome. Reasons:

She’s got a fucking cool hat.

Telekinetic powers and glowing red eyes.

She’s a typical quite girl character.

She’s just, really, awesome.

Spice and Wolf – Horo

Anyone who’s seen Spice and Wolf knows that Horo makes the show. Her personality is so awesome, that without her, the show would suck. Fortunately, the show includes her, so it is actually really really good. Basically, Horo is a couple things.

Firstly, she loves to tease Lawrence. Sometimes she acts turned on by him, just to get a reaction out of him. Sometimes she asks odd questions, to make him embarrassed. However, despite her teasing, it’s pretty obvious that she has genuine feelings for Lawrence, and here she develops sort of a tsundere attitude (sort of). She’s not full tsundere, but she definitely displays characteristics of one.

Why else is she awesome? Well for one, she loves eating and getting shit faced on regular basis. Does that really make her cool though? Yes. Yes it does.

Strike Witches – Mio Sakamoto

Strike Witches, despite being a bunch of lolis without pants, was actually a pretty good show, and I was able to tolerate the blatant fanservice because I kind of enjoyed the plot (zippin around in those boot things looked kinda fun). Anyway, Mio Sakamoto. Look at the picture (stare HARD) and you should find out one reason why I like her.

That’s right, a magical eye that is covered by an eye patch. What can I say, I dig the eye patch. They make any character look cool. Even Watanuki looks cooler when he has an eye patch (in fact, I’d say the episodes got better when he had an eye patch too….God I miss xxxHOLiC).

Besides this, she wields a samurai sword and has an attitude of a winner. She’s a born leader and has the ability to not take shit, or act like moe garbage, or realize that she’s in a fanservice anime, like most of the other girls in this show.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu – Yuki Nagato

Well, here is a character who for some reason I keep reverting back to when I see other characters like her. She’s a typical quiet character, but she certainly isn’t the first. However, she is probably one of the most popular.

First of all, I would like to say that anyone who thinks that Mikuru is the best character can either suck my dick, jump off a cliff, or punch themselves in the privates until they become numb. Mikuru sucks. She’s just fucking annoying in so many ways. She cries and gets embarrassed all the time. She’s honestly just a pain. Where was she on my top 5 most hated characters post, is what I want to know.

Anyway, back to Yuki. She’s an alien, which is awesome. She’s all business, and rarely talks, which is awesome, and she’s generally awesome, which is awesome. I mean, she had to go through the endless eight around 15 thousand times. We only had to endure it for 9 or so episodes. I might have to consider her a bad ass now (she does do some bad ass stuff).

Well with that I have finished “S”. I’m probably going to do two more of these posts (maybe three). Almost at the end baby!

“If you don’t remember something, it never happened…

If you don’t remember someone, that person never existed…”

~Serial Experiments Lain

I love this quote in that it summarizes the human condition in two simple sentences.

Isn’t it true that once we die, in some hundred or two hundred years, our footprints would be no more? Once our peers die and once our descendants move on (hell, I don’t even know my great grandparents and it’s only been a century or so since their death), no one will remember us.

And thus, our existence would have amounted to nothing.

If no one remembered the terrorist bombings of 9/11, it never happened. If no one remembered the holocaust, it never happened. Events only get their significance if people acknowledge their existence. Events become forgotten, as human lives will be, if people forget about their existence.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons for the existence of this blog. Perhaps one day, when I move on, some one will stumble upon my humble (oh the irony) webspace. Perhaps then I shall live again – in someone else’s life.

Isn’t it true, that we only live if people acknowledge our life?

On a more cheery note, I got my F4 Special Edition CD from Yesasia.com along with four pairs of earrings. Now my collection of Asian music amounts to some thirty CD’s including albums from 周杰伦， 林俊杰，F.I.R., 光良，陶喆， DBSK, Super Junior, Mika Nakashima, Fahrenheit, Bi Rain, Boys Over Flowers OST, and BoA.

On the left are my DBSK CD's and my new F4 Special Edition CD; On the right are my new Hero Jaejoong wavy cross earrings

YesAsia was a pretty decent seller. The customer service was quick and always responded helpfully to my payment inquiries. Shipping is quite quick too. The only drawback was that they damaged the case of my F4 CD by wrapping it in bubble wrap. The paper casing (the black case shown above) got bent. The plastic CD case was fine, however. This is just like how UPS bent my cubes from Architecture camp.

I also took to painting these past few days. I’m working on my first real painting ever – I’m serious – I’ve never painted in my life (okay, other than that time in Art and Design class where we painted a flower on thick chipboard. But it wasn’t real painting anyways)

On the left is my flower on Saturday night; On the right is my flower on Sunday night (haha I paint at night >_>;;) Yeah... I need to work on my painting skillz (wait - what skills?)

I’m still not done with the painting – contemplating on editing the flower a bit. The canvas measures 9″x12″. I’m using acrylic paint (lol – the paint that’s been sitting in my cabinet for over a year…).

I actually started the flower about two years ago. I painted the flower body and drew in pencil the outlines for the leaves. I never got to work on it more, however, and let it sit. I had a sudden impulse to paint on Saturday (at midnight… ha), and pulled up my vase of flowers (and I had to use another flower to model my painting because I don’t remember which flower I used to model the original painting).

Okay. Enough of that. Gotta go work on the homework on which I procrastinated. Again.

Seitokai no Ichizon is in the top half of the MAL ratings for this season, but does the concept show

Seitokai no Ichizon is in the top half of the MAL ratings for this season, but does the concept show a lack of ambition?

A few months before I started this blog, I decided to take a trip back in time and find out if I had in fact been living a lie, or if anime really was better back in the day. Ten years seemed a decent enough cutoff, so I watched all of the Summer 1998 new shows , all three of them.

This number wasn’t all together too surprising to me, as the explosion in number of new shows had a clear starting point, so watching all 3 should have been easy enough. Turns out it didn’t quite work out like that.

Serial Experiments Lain was something I had always intended to go back and watch at some point anyway. I definitely wasn’t disappointed, but as the best of these shows it looked worryingly dated. A symptom of trying to use technology as the defining plot element in all likelihood.

NightWalker ended up simply being an episodic rehashing of various Western monster cliches packaged into a short series. The ending is also shockingly ruined in the final minutes while hilarious alluding to a second season that never happens.

Shadow Skill seemed a pretty average fantasy/action series with an animation budget that seemed to approach zero with each passing episode. I ended up dropping this before I got to the supposedly awful ending.

So 1 out of 3 dropped, which is about on line with how I am in general, but I don’t think it really means anything here. It could mean I could not want to watch anything longer than 13 episodes (Shadow Skill being 26). More likely, it means I simple watch for the purpose of being entertained and nothing more than that. Instead there was something else that struck me about these three shows. There didn’t seem to be any catering toward a niche audience.

While the steam may be opaque the attempt to drive DVD sales is as transparent as ever

The hallmarks of a lot of more modern anime that I watch like token onsen episodes, blatent attempts to sell more DVDs, casts of characters with no depth so they are easy to write for. Instead it seemed like was about trying to put out the best product possible within whatever meager constraints they had and hoping the quality would sell the show. Essentially all three showed ambition even if 2 of the 3 utterly failed to make a mark on me.

The conclusion I ultimately reached was that in 10 years anime had slowly gone from something desperately trying to reach mass appeal to something that was just content with the safety of a niche audience in 90% of the cases, but lacks confidence in selling itself to that niche. What does the new product say about its intended niche audience though?

Personajes

* Lain Iwakura (岩倉 玲音, Iwakura Rein?) (Lain)

* Yasuo Iwakura (岩倉 康男, Iwakura Yasuo?)

* Miho Iwakura (岩倉 美穂, Iwakura Miho?)

* Mika Iwakura (岩倉 美香, Iwakura Mika?)

* Arisu Mizuki (瑞樹 ありす, Mizuki Arisu?)

* Reika Yamamoto (山本 麗華, Yamamoto Reika?)

* Yuri Kato (加藤 樹莉, Kato Yuri?)

* Chisa Yomoda (四方田 千砂, Yomoda Chisa?)

* Taro (タロウ, Taro?)

* Myu-Myu (ミューミュー, Myu-Myu?) y Masayuki (マサユキ, Masayuki?)

* Eiri Masami (英利 政美, Eiri Masami?)

Tjoho… Tjohej.

Sometimes, I find myself thinking like Kyon. I wish that something amazing would happen to me. Lik

Sometimes, I find myself thinking like Kyon. I wish that something amazing would happen to me. Like maybe that if time travellers, ESPers or aliens really existed, my life would be absolutely perfect. Granted, I wouldn’t have to go on wacky adventures (though that wouldn’t be entirely out of the question), but just knowing that they were out there. That they really existed and were interacting with the dreary humdrum of everyday life and everyday people might give me some hope in thinking that my life wasn’t so boring after all.

I mean, living in a small city is an amazing feeling, because you feel like you know everything there is to know. About your surroundings. About life. About people.

The world is so closed in that you don’t think about what’s out there.

Well, not everybody! But I didn’t even realize how encased my life was until I discovered anime.

I know, I know, I know! Anime is in no way a substitute for life or even a provider of great epiphanies, but the first time I turned on the TV and saw Sailor Moon, my whole life changed. There was this place, out there across the water and all around the other side of the world, called Japan. Land of the rising sun.

Growing up in school, we had a few Asian students, most of which were Indian. They were minorities… there weren’t very many of them and elementary school was pretty miserable if they had accents. It’s not that we didn’t like them or that we thought they were bad people; it’s just that they were different. And I think, as children, we were scared. The adults less so, but I think they were too. We didn’t think of them as any less than human beings, with equal rights and everything… but it was their own lifestyle, the life they had lived and the life they had left behind that caused the people in my class to stare when they felt that no one was watching.

And then I watched anime. Suddenly, a whole new world opened up to me. A world where girls had magical powers and saved the world from evil aliens. A world where teenagers piloted giant robots in space and fought epic battle after the other, all while still remaining loyal to the ones they fought for. As world where an ordinary high school girl discovered she was the catalyst to preventing or begining the destruction of a completely fantastical world. YTV (a Canadian cartoon channel) was my sanctuary. It was my escape.

Maybe, out in the world, there was a place where monsters that attacked the city were normal. The more rational side of my childhood said that was impossible. And the little kid inside my heart never stopped believing.

Even now.

Manga and anime is how I continue to live my dream. Pretend that magic really exists.

But I’m out of high school now, and have been for a little while. Those childish fantasies aren’t going to get me anything but laughed at as I get older and disappointed as I continue aging.

So that’s why I’m here, typing this out at a gas station that graciously has provided Wi-Fi. I’m out to find the magic of real life. The magic of escaping the town you were born and heading out on your own. The magic of the wind against your face and helmet as you tear down the highway. The magic if seeing an empty stretch of road ahead and wondering if anyone can see you as you throw back your head and laugh so loud that the birds fly off fences and electrical towers as you pass by.

This world is connected to me. And I am connected to the world. Every action has a consequence, and I’m tired of living in a world where the consequences are isolated to a small cubicle in the corner of the office. I want to get out.

I want to live.

Hahaha… I was so nervous on my first day; I don’t really remember much of what happened. I’m just stopping here, about an hour away from Kamloops, for gas and a lunch/snack. I haven’t really met too many people yet, but I’ve got about five weeks and to fill up that requirement. Will probably stop in Kamloops to sightsee, then will move on to Revelstoke and stay there for the night. Will update there, too (hopefully).

Getting crumbs all over my computer…. shoot. Hope all of you a doing well! See you guys soon!

Love,

Tally

Over the past 4 or 5 years, I don’t really think I watched more than 12 to 16 anime series. But then I’ve been in shops, looked up trailers and checked titles as well. Also there is all the series that didn’t hook. If you don’t get hooked on a serie, it’d be hard to say it’s a good one (or else they’re missing out on fairly basic devices)

Bear in mind that I’m excluding (maybe literally) hundreds of import.

xxxHolic

R.O.D the TV

Serial Experiments Lain

Kino’s Journey

I just fell in a trap, attempting a ranking. Don’t take that too seriously. Now Runner ups.

Laughing Man logo (see Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex)

OK, here we go. A list (I’m going to try to be comprehensive here) of all the anime I have seen, am currently somewhere in the process of viewing, or wish to see in the future (that last one will probably be the trickiest). If you like anime but aren’t sure where to go, maybe you’ll find something listed here that sounds interesting.

Oh, and if you don’t like anime…well, all I can say is that you don’t know what you’re missing. You probably think what you’re missing is something it isn’t, if that makes any sense at all. Hmm…that’s for another time.

And on a related note, if you don’t recognize the above image, well, I hate to break it to you, but you aren’t watching the right television shows.

ANIME I’VE SEEN AND RECOMMEND (sort of roughly ranked in the order of how much I liked them)

series

Serial Experiments Lain - couldn’t not put this first on the list. 13 episodes in all. You should watch this.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – two seasons. You might have thought the movie was great and that the series wouldn’t be. You were wrong. (Besides, don’t you want to know where that logo comes from?)

Cowboy Bebop – all my favorite bounty hunters in a single series…how is that even possible? This show promises nothing but pure enjoyment. Recommended for the anime non-viewer.

Noir - funny, come to think of it probably my all-time favorite assassin is a character on this show. She practically defines the word stealth. One great thing about Chloe is her wardrobe lets you know how badass she is. Not to give too much away, but in any case, you know she’s not playing because of the way she dresses. Here’s what she likes to wear:

Chloe character sketch from NOIR

Like, every day. She never doesn’t wear this outfit. In fact, her closet is filled with this. She’s a great character. By the way, lots of people seem not to know about this show. Check it out…not necessarily what you might expect. The opening episode is killer…it pulls you right into the storyline. Props to my friends Ryan and Starr for turning me on to this.

Neon Genesis Evangelion – anything I should add? Oh yeah, I guess I’ll just mention that this show was voted the best TV show…ever. Weird – I thought it was The Wire, or maybe Twin Peaks (Definitely one of those two).

Gunslinger Girl – an Italian government agency adopts abandoned or seriously ill young girls from hospitals under the guise of a beneficent charity, then brainwashes them, pairs them with handlers and trains them to be assassins! Sounds a bit preposterous but this show’s worth checking out…it’s a strong production with really high-quality drawings and animation. I’ve only seen the first season. The second is being produced by a different studio, and I’m not sure it’s even gotten a U.S. release yet (frankly it doesn’t look as good as the first season).

I can’t leave out BLAME! This mini-anime is freaking weird. I love the art, though. Thank you Ryan for sending this to me in the mail. I should try to find the manga…

I’m sure I’m leaving something out here, but since I can’t think what it is at the moment I’ll move on to…

films

Ghost in the Shell – not much I can say here. All I can say is I will never not want to watch this movie again. Sheer brilliance.

Akira – everytime I see this film I am struck by the level of detail and thinking that went into its production. It proves conclusively that anime has unique potential as an art form (can you imagine Akira as live-action production?), a fact that few seem to understand to the degree that Otomo has. Must see.

I recently watched Memories – a film divided into three parts, each by a different director, but overseen as an entire project by Otomo. This is worth checking out. Unconventional, and brilliant.

Spirited Away – this is actually the only Miyazaki film I’ve seen. I need to check out some of the others…

how could I have forgotten Appleseed? This film is awesome! Don’t sleep.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence – some people bad-mouth this movie. It’s pretty different from the first film, both stylistically and in terms of narrative. I would consider Innocence to be the most abstract production in the Ghost in the Shell “canon,” as it were. I have to see it again to form my opinion more completely. If you have seen the original but not this, give it a shot. If you haven’t seen the original you know what to do…

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie – When I first watched this I hadn’t seen the series all the way through. I need to see this one again.

Paprika – Mixed feelings about this one. Stylistically and artistically, it was excellent, yet I felt it was over-the-top to a degree that took away from character development and other aspects, resulting in a less-than-completely enjoyable experience. Yet the execution of some artistic elements was so impressive that I would most likely recommend it anyway. I like the dream machine.

The Evangelion movies…not even sure what to say about them, other than, if you’ve seen the show, watch them. Come on, don’t you want to know what happens to SEELE?

Again, can’t think what I’m leaving out, though I’m surely leaving out something. I’ll tell you

WHAT I’VE BEEN WATCHING LATELY:

mainly, a series called Last Exile. I really like this one. It’s pretty unique, lacking a lot of the familiar anime tropes any critical anime viewer might be on the lookout for. The setting seems to be an anachronistic, somewhat dystopian future that seems reminiscent of medieval Europe, perhaps post-apocalyptic. The plot focuses on two young pilots of a vehicle known as a vanship. You should check it out…

And also, from the same studio (GONZO) I’m planning to watch the rest of Blue Submarine No. 6. A story with four half-hour episodes, it was also released as a film. I’ve seen only the first episode and don’t feel qualified to comment, other than to say that the art is awesome.

And what does the future hold?

ANIME I’D LIKE TO SEE IN THE FUTURE:

films

I’ve actually never watched Vampire Hunter D all the way through. Someday soon…

Pretty much everything by Miyazaki, but I’m told Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is really great.

I’d also like to see Perfect Blue…never heard of it until recently, but sounds like a classic.

series

As I was writing, I started watching the preview on Netflix for a series called Paranoia Agent. From the director of Perfect Blue (Satoshi Kon) and the character designer of Spirited Away, this series about a bat-wielding killer on rollerblades looks pretty great.

Madlax…from the director of NOIR, looks like this might be worth checking out…

I want to check out Ergo Proxy. Don’t really know what it’s about but I’ve heard good things about it.

Not sure what else for the moment, but I’m getting tired. Did I leave out something crucial? Or was my assessment of some anime classic completely misguided and wrong? If you have responses, questions or criticism, you know what to do.

Oh and by the way, this blog entry might give you the impression that I am a huge anime nerd. In fact, I didn’t really start watching it much until the last couple of years. Props go out to Cary for this. Anyway, notwithstanding the fact that I lifted my alias <megatech> from a certain anime cult classic, I’m not actually really too much in the know about this. So feel free to leave suggestions below. Peace..

np: Porcelain and The Tramps – Redlight District

What is real and what is not?

- As fronteiras da realidade;
- A percepção individual e coletiva da realidade;
- O que reside na memória das pessoas;

é a voz chamada “Whisper”.

Logo deletei meu primeiro myspace e quando fui fazer outro, ela me disse.
E quem é a Mitsuka Murasaki?

kissu =*

WORD UP!!! Triumvirate of Awesome ABe, Konaka and Nakamura are coming out with a new project. Seri

WORD UP!!! Triumvirate of Awesome ABe, Konaka and Nakamura are coming out with a new project. Serial Experiments Lain had ABe for character design, Konaka for story and Nakamura as director. These three are working together again!!! Could this be the new Lain?! (Ghost Hound was supposed to be the new Lain but ABe was missing so it doesn’t count…)

ABe wrote the following on his blog:

“The announcement is at Mr. Konaka’s website. Starting with the July issue of Animage (on sale from June 10th) it will be serialized for one year. The one-year period is our current estimate.

About ten years ago, when we were releasing serial experiments lain, I became completely absorbed in the project and worked almost blindly on it, but now that I look back I feel that something like the core of my art came out of that work.

On this occasion too, I will try my best to have it turn out that way.”

I was the first to comment, telling him to gambare!!!

Project Pic from Konaka's site!!!

Konaka’s website has it titled “The New Project of Yoshitoshi Abe, Ryutaro Nakamura and Chiaki J. Konaka”. He writes:

“I’m in poor health, and this will go on forever…Just as I was thinking this I get to announce a brand-new project. Starting on the upcoming issue of Animage (the 31st anniversary issue), a new “graphic novel” or something like it will start serialization, the product of a collaboration between Yoshitoshi ABe and me.

Strictly speaking, the first chapter will appear on the issue after the next. This time it will be sort of an introduction chapter. In addition to this first glimpse we are planning an intro to the composition of the work so I hope you will check it out for more news. Naturally, Director Nakamura is also involved in the creation of the concept for this project. The “page design work” is being directed by Senior Editor Matsushita. We’ve also asked help from Norihito Nezu, to whom I have often be in debt in relation to Geneon work. Already I was making unreasonable demands regarding fonts and I am very grateful that help is coming so quickly.

Wow, it’s been a while, huh…this session-style series (laughs). The plan is to run this for one year. Updates will be on the Animage page so do check that out too.”

My translation was kinda rushed but I’m sure you get the point. Sure, it’s a graphic novel, but what is Director Nakamura doing in there?? I smell awesome anime coming, and that pic is delish!!!

ABe’s post is here, Konaka’s announcement is here.
