Ah, what’s the thing with the end of the world? It’s always occurring – there is always some nutcase that sees an opportunity to bring the whole world around to their way of thinking by making a deal with some kind of diabolical force that guarantees them godhood. These individuals very rarely seek to synchronise their watches so from one week to the next you are guaranteed work. Reality ticks along in accordance to the consensus and if you get enough people together in a small area who believe strongly enough in something they can interrupt the reality track and cause a local spacetime distortion, opening it up into overspace – the notional framework where the reprogrammable flesh of start-stuff resides.
Skinny had been hanging out in some bars on Bourbon Street trying to follow a succubus that they’d been tracking from somewhere east of New York when he had picked up on some chatter regarding rituals to manifest some demon mentioned in an ancient grimoire that had recently come onto the market, its previous owner having passed over in a way that spoke of the genuine nature of the article.
Someone not in the know might have mistaken the network for a gang of drug dealers – the secret hand-offs, drop points, a weird brand of hand jive that these people shared, and more currency exchanging hands than your average joe would see in a lifetime. Skinny could sniff this kind of shit out with no effort at all.
Junkyard moved in, working it like it was a long con and he was some method acting Robert De Niro type who was going to get an oscar for this performance. They could be as convincing as they wanted; fatalities were not a problem – tell a bunch of dysfunctional fuck-ups that they have carte blanche and then give them guns and you are going to have stuff to clear up. So, shortly after hooking into the grapevine they had a physical body planted in the midst of the group. Junkyard didn’t ever have to stretch the truth too much to make himself useful – bastard was a polymath who could learn a new routine in the time it took most people to formulate a question.
‘Most of them,’ Junkyard said ‘Couldn’t find their ass with both hands and a road-map so we can write them off as being in anyway dangerous – but then isn’t that always the way with foot-soldiers? Nah, two layers up, cutting through the cancer of middle-management that plagues even the criminal world, and there you have them – the brains driving the operation, John Au Secour.’
‘Real name?’
‘Fuck knows, get Abacus on it – something tells me shaking a few secrets out of this bastard is going to take some serious resources.’
‘OK, so what are they trying to do, apart from the manifestation? That’s a what and we need a why.’
‘Well, Brent, can’t say as I’m exactly sure. This is going to be a deep cover situation; gonna take a while.’
‘It can’t take a while – you know why? Because their timetable is already running and that means it’s imminent; it has to be coming soon or it wouldn’t have registered on our radar, right? You know how these things work, Mr Junkyard, by the time we get to find out about these things they are generally pretty far along – and the reason for that is that they start to get confident and feel that they don’t have to worry about being too clandestine anymore. Why? because the old order is on its way out and they needn’t worry about the agents of that system, because they will be the lords of the new kingdom.’
‘It sometimes amazes me how many of these insane bastards are out there, and it is even more amazing when you think that half of them were locked up before they came up with this batshit crazy idea of care in the community.’
‘Well, can’t blame the politicians for being totally clueless, self-serving fuckwits, can you?’
‘Why not, Brent? Why not?’
‘Because they were elected by another group of totally clueless, self-serving fuckwits – namely, the public.’
‘I guess.’
‘Anyway – step it up; bring us something quick.’

‘Do you know what I have learnt in the past 48 hours, Mr Spenk?’
‘No, Mr Brent, I wouldn’t dare to hazard a guess as to what you may have worked out in that pre-eminently fucked up skull of yours.’
‘I have decided that God has a wicked sense of humour and is obviously intent upon arse-raping me at every opportunity. I think it may have something to do with the casual blasphemy to which I have been prone since I learnt to speak. Still, what can you expect when you are taught to speak by an alcholic ex-priest?’
‘Again, Mr Brent, I will reiterate my somewhat Swiss-like position of neutrality in matters such as this – there are just certain things that it pays not to imagine – anything concerning yourself outside of our business relationship is pretty much covered by that rule.’
‘You are without doubt, Spenk, the biggest pain in the arse that it has ever been my misfortune to know, but I thank whatever God truly is up there that you are also unfailingly honest and perhaps somewhat wise. I live in a soap opera most of the time.’
‘That you do – that you do. Speaking of God’s sense of humour, and the reason for this rant, do the lab boys have any idea what exactly it was that linked this unfortunate group besides a shopping list of problems that marked them out as good candidates for being touched with some kind of supernatural power?’
‘I was rather hoping that you might be able to fill me in on that one, Spenk. Didn’t you read the briefing that the head scientist prepared for us?
‘Some of it; but most of it was about what these chaps can do rather than about why they can do it. I rather thought that might have been left out on purpose, and that it might have something to do with my security clearance.’
‘Well, if that’s the case, Spenk, they left me out of the loop as well, so that wouldn’t make much sense, would it? Leads me to believe that they don’t have the faintest idea what it is that they are dealing with.’
‘Wonderful, so we could be baby-sitting the human equivalent of h-bombs and we won’t know what triggers them until we do it?’
‘That’s about it, Spenk – that’s about it.’
‘Well, it’s what we’re paid for so no sense in grumbling, eh?’
‘I suppose not … yes, I suppose you are quite right in that regard. Might you be able to fetch me a coffee, Spenk? I would be most grateful.’
‘Of course. What time are they supposed to arrive?’
‘Any moment now I believe. Ah, yes, if I am not mistaken that was the sound of tires crunching on gravel; meaning of course that they are here now.’
‘Still want that coffee?’
‘Yes, and maybe add in something a little stronger, eh?’
‘Might have one myself.’
‘You do that, Spenk – you do that.’
Spenk went into the kitchen just as they heard the front door open and a group of people engaged in some form of heated debate entered the building.
Skinny was the first one in the room, and looking at him one might wonder exactly how it was that this person managed to convince everyone, including himself, that he was indeed alive. He was an anorexic of ten years standing, addicted to various dietary supplements including an inordinate amount of emetics, and had suffered severe heart trouble up to and including the event that changed him – a simultaneous heart attack and attainment of the ability to look into the future. Thin as a rake, shaved head, black clothes that looked too baggy, sallow skin that seemed to hang on his very visible skeleton – he did not speak of anything approaching comfort in the way he comported himself.
Junkyard on the other hand had the braggard swagger of an ex-addict, the sleeves on his hoodie top rolled up to reveal track-mark free arms, and a stupid grin on his face that Brent suspected he may have first become acquainted with whilst high, so maniacal looking was it. He looked sickeningly healthy and stood next to Skinny it seemed painfully amplified. Was it intentional that he looked like a younger version of Morrisey? Brent thought that considering how deliberate everything else seemed about him that this was likely. Junkyard was an empath whose now seemingly total love for anyone and anything had rendered him incapable of becoming high via artificial means.
Hopalong was not nice to look at – the things which he had done to himself to compensate for what he perceived to be an overabundance of symmetry in his body made the nerves jangle slightly. One leg down, three fingers, an eye. Anything that he could do without he seemed willing to get rid of, even now – he, unlike some of the others, had not had some kind of born again experience that had fixed him. All of Hopalong’s clothing was intentionally loose to disguise the much maligned vessel that he used to get around in this world of piss and shit. It was surely not without some irony that he had been gifted with the power of telekinesis – someone with a daily lessening of presence in effect who could shift unlimited amounts of mass with a single thought.
Brent looked at Abacus and noticed that his wide-staring eyes were darting furiously around the room and that his chewed fingers were moving rapidly against his palms; god knows what kind of computations he was running through his brain. The number of things he could process through his mind at one time made the best supercomputers they had look like amoebae. The hair on his head was patchy where he kept pulling it out, but apart from that he was very neatly turned out – which was kind of what you expected from an obsessive compulsive.
Perforate stared right through him; her glassy eyes were simultaneously shark-like and had something of the bunny in the headlights about them. She wore clothes that fit her like a sack might fit a clothes hanger; all black from head to toe. Perforate looked like your proto-typical emo slash goth chick. Brent decided they would have to keep an eye on her. They said that her talent was to be able to suck your negative emotions out of you, amplify them and push them back at you like a hurricane swirl of feelings. That could be a problem given how delicate all the rest of these broken flowers were or had been in the not too distant past.
Re-run thought his ability meant he had gone to hell because every time he tried to self-harm he would heal up within a matter of seconds. He emitted a field of energy that also repaired anyone close to him were they to become injured – so the self-loathing misanthrope couldn’t harm himself or anyone else. He was sharply dressed in a very nice suit that made him stand out; something Brent was sure made him simultaneously very happy and very uneasy. One of the first things that actually struck you about him was the shock of red hair that stood up like a flame on his head and the intense brooding gaze of those emerald green eyes.
Knuckledust looked like Robert Mapplethorpe might if he had taken copious amounts of steroids and had been working out in the gym every hour that god sent. To say that the man was overcompensating for something would have been to do a disservice to the level of obsession with which he trained himself. He was a killing machine with a brain – the brain got him to the right place at the right time in the right way and then the gift he had been given unchained his amazing strength and set him loose like an angry bull elephant that had been stung by a wasp in its ballsack. Brent wished that he would wear more clothes and that the clothes he wore were somewhat less tight fitting.
Snake looked like she would have serious trouble if there were any magnets in the room – just how much metal could someone seriously attach to themselves before it weighed them down? Another one of them who he might have to have a word with about trying to wear some more clothes – if they were going to be operating in a public arena – and they were – then he might have to think about introducing some kind of dress code as an exercise in damage control. Snake had what they were calling Logos Key – the ability to tap into some root command centre in the brain and tell people what to do. They had a blanket of subsonics in the room at all times to dampen down her abilities.
And last but not least there was the tall thin twist of wire of a man called Shift Control, who worked time and space like they were a keyboard – it was kind of disturbing to watch because he did the whole typing motion while he was working his magic. To describe him was not easy because a lot of the time he did not appear to be solid – he described himself as being slightly out of phase with this frequency of reality.
‘So,’ said Junkyard ‘Here we all are then. This is cosy, isn’t it? So, Brent, what do you want with us bunch of fuck-ups? What can we do you for? Need someone rooting out? Need someone’s head kicked in? You name it we’ll do it.’
‘Oh, I know you will Mr Junkyard – don’t have much choice really, do you? My understanding is that all of you are only tolerated as long as you are under my command – any deviation and you will be exterminated with extreme prejudice.’
‘Now, that’s not very nice, Mr Brent. Are you thinking to push my buttons or something? That might not be wise, and think about this – who is really tolerating who? We could pretty much strip your mind down and leave you a gibbering vegetable. Control here could bounce us all around in time and drop us out the other end fifty years past our sell by date – so curb the poison in your tone and we’ll get along just fine.’
‘Spenk, did he just threaten me?’
‘I believe that he merely retaliated – you were the one who started this pointless pissing contest.’
‘See, Brent, your friend here knows the score – might be best if you let him edit you before you let out those nasty little thoughts you seem prone to; might save on a lot of hassle in the future.’

On Sunday afternoon in  a Fayetteville, North Carolina church, Manna Church, the world,family and friends said goodbye to Shaniya Davis. Shaniya had captured the heart of the world, after it was discovered that her own mother had sold her into bondage as a sex slave,to Mario McNeill, who brutally raped and murdered the little child.

More than 2000 people were inside the church to support Bradley Lockhart, Shaniyas dad, and the man who made the decision to send Shaniya back to her mother,after having raised the child for the full 5 years of her life,which directly led to her death.

“Don’t let God’s words and don’t let his actions get you down,” Lockhart told the packed congregation. “He did this for a reason.”

Shaniya Davis funeral was open to the public and was standing room only.Lockhart urged the 1,500 crowded into Manna Church and another 500 watching the service from an adjacent building to help the community’s needy, according to press reports.

As mourners filled the church, a photo display of Shaniya Davis was streamed on the overhead projector. Never before released photos of Shaniya were displayed. These photos showed Shaniya with her father, Bradley Lockhart and her siblings.

Lockhart said, “Shaniya, Daddy love you honey. And I know you’re gonna’ be waiting for me … I’ll see you when I get there.”

White doves were released at her graveside as the little child Shaniya was laid to her eternal resting place.

Description

With serial communication you can exchange data with the AVR-microcontroller and your PC. Allmost all AVR-microcontroller have a UART (Universal Asynchronous Reciever/Transmitter) on board of the chip (accept for the AT1200 and some ATTiny microcontrollers). The data transmission between the PC and the microcontroller is serial and asynchronous, serial means that the bits are send one after the other and asynchronous means that there is no clock signal to clock in the data that is send or recieved. One byte is transmitted in 10 bits, 1 start bit, 8 data bits and one stop bit, as you can see in the figure below.

The serial data transmission has a standard that is called RS232. According to this standard a logical “0″ has a voltage level between -15V and -5V and a logical “1″ has a level between +5V and +15V. The AVR-microcontrolers use 5V (TTL-level) to transmit signals. So the signals needs to be converted, this can be done with the MAX232, that only needs a 5V power supply to convert the signal from TTL-level to RS232 level and reverse.
Transmission between two RS232 devices can take place with a maximum distance of 15 meters.

Hardware

Below you can see the schematic of how the RS232 convertor is connected to the AT microcontroller.

Software

With BASCOM you can easily write software to communicate with the AVR-microcontroller, because BASCOM has several commands for the serial communication. Below is an example program, as you can see it takes little effort with BASCOM to implement serial communication into your microcontroller system. The program will print text in the terminal program. To test the program you can use the BASCOM terminal emulator or Hyperterminal, or my own terminal program. The settings for the COM port are: COM1,9600,N,8,1.

The boy shivered, crouched in the corner of the transport, gripping his school bag to his chest with is arms wrapped around his knees.  After the accident he’d run for what seemed like hours, tripping over the pavement and colliding with confused pedestrians and with no idea where he was going; he had wanted to disappear.  His scattered memories replayed images of his mother’s body swept aside by the speeding bike; in the last seconds her head had bounced off the corner of the alley wall, snapping her neck at an impossible angle.  Why did he run?  He sobbed to himself, hating his cowardice.  He’d left his mother lying in the alley and taken off without looking back.  He was scum.

Dean was too short to see out the windows, and all the seats had been full by the time he had pushed his way on through the crowd.  He hoped this was the right one, it seemed like the right station and it was the same colour as usual, but he’d been so lost and couldn’t be sure; he didn’t know what he would do if he got home anyway, no one would be there.  The transport’s vibrations painted movement that felt steady and deliberate, but he had watched the trans’ whizz across the sky from their stations to communities across the country and knew it was all illusion, some magic kept them still in the cold grey containers, feeling no faster than a crawl.  At every stop he’d wriggled further from the doors, finding protection in the corner; there was no one behind him in the corner and he was less likely to get trodden on again.

The forest of legs in front of him reminded him of his mother’s feelings about the transports.  She always wanted to get on early to avoid the rush and cramped conditions, but he had loved watching the people.  Whenever they got on a busy transport he’d glance around and invent stories about the people around him, make them characters in heroic quests to save the universe.  A man with a briefcase would become an off duty astronaut, back on earth to persuade the government of a fearsome alien threat.  The woman with the red coat would be a time traveller searching for her lost love, whose memories were scattered across the ages, her umbrella a secret device to catch and store them until she could rescue his body from some heavily guarded prison ship.  Now he saw the figures with new eyes that revealed only threat and malicious intentions.  A man in front of him kept scratching the skin on the back of his left hand, which had become red and blotchy.  In Dean’s mind the back of the hand bulged a shining, black claw ripping through the skin and shred its human shaped mask to reveal a hideous creature of sticky metal and insect frame, stretching out to overwhelm the tight packed passengers, only to find that they too were insects, all bearing down on him.

He edged deeper into the corner, his own hand aching from a misplaced footstep.  No one had noticed him board the transport, there was nothing unusual, he could see several students traveling alone or in small groups, but how come they didn’t know his feelings?  His mother always knew when he was upset and his teachers seemed to be pretty good at telling when he was making stuff up; he supposed that all adults could see his thoughts, but not these.  They walked by without looking down, comatose in travel, staring at nothing and often consumed by whatever it was they listened to or the gadgets they fiddled with, they collectively ignored each other in a way that confused him.  Small groups talked, but any modulation in volume quickly earned them disapproving glances from other passengers.

He worried about stopping.  His mum had always told him when to get off and he had never worked out what let her know.  She would just look up from time to time and tell him it was time to go; each journey seemed forever, where would he end up?  From the corner he doubted very much if he would have time to get to the doors before they closed again, he wondered if he was trapped forever.  He thought again of his mother lying in the alley and bike screeching away, he hid his face in his knees.

‘Are you ok?’  Grumbled a husky voiced traveller.  The man was also sitting on the transport floor.  He didn’t look like the other adults, his clothes were dirty and looked funny, old fashioned in a way.  The man wasn’t that old, but somehow seemed older than he appeared.  His voice was cracked dry and a wart near his right eye moved when he talked.

Dean stared ahead in compliance with years of teaching about stranger danger.  He gripped himself tighter.

‘Hey, I said are you ok?’  The man waved a hand across Dean’s face, wafting a stale smell from his yellowed fingers.  Dean recoiled from the unfamiliar scent.  He’d never seen anyone like this and was pretty sure he wasn’t meant to.

‘What’s wrong with you?’  He muttered to himself and began to fumble with a crumpled paper bag that had come from one of his pockets.

Dean fixed his eyes ahead and tried to close his ears.

The man popped a sweet into his mouth and thrust the bag under Dean’s nose.  ‘Want one?’

‘Go away’ Dean shouted in s small voice that only the man and anyone at their level could hear.  He kept his focus on the man with the scratchy hand.

‘It’s only sherbet lemon…your loss’ said the scruffy man with the wild hair, depositing the bag in one of his cavernous pockets.  He was wearing a wide brimmed green hat and a matching thick winter coat that spread across the floor where he was sitting.  Dean realised he was looking at the man despite his efforts.

They sat in silence for a few minutes.  The man crunched on his sweet and Dean tried desperately to not look at him, but couldn’t help quick glances hear and there.

‘Where’s your mother?’  The man asked and Dean began to cry.

This morning I received the following electronic newsletter from Senator John Cornyn on the Senate Health Care Reform Bill.

Last night, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid released his 2,074-page health care bill, which Senate Budget Committee analysis shows will cost American taxpayers $2.5 trillion when fully implemented over ten years. (My bold.)

Until we have had a chance to read the full 2,074 page Reid Bill, it’s impossible for Americans to fully grasp what the Majority Leader has cooked up behind closed doors. It is my hope that Sen. Reid will afford all Americans the same courtesy that he had: ample time to study the legislation and deliberate the best way to proceed.

Lie 1 debunked: The proposed Senate bill saves $127 billion over first ten years.

And in the second ten years we will realize even more savings.

Over the second 10 years, CBO projects even greater cost savings–up to $650 billion, with the caveat that after 10 years, their analyses become highly uncertain.

Do you have a problem with saving lives and money, Senator?

Why are Republicans constantly moaning and bellyaching about having to read a long and complex bill? If they are too dumb or lazy to read, why bother running for office? And as far as cooking stuff behind closed doors, isn’t that what you Republicans did since Ronald Reagan?

Come on sore loser, give us a break.

There is more.

What we do know so far, as reported by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), is that this bill will have a wide, negative impact on Americans across the board – from seniors on Medicare to small business owners to future generations of Americans who will be footing the bill. The bill will increase taxes on all Americans by nearly half a trillion dollarsand breaks the President’s pledge not to raise taxes on working families earning less than $250,000—at a time that unemployment is at a 26-year high.

This is a disgusting fear mongering LIE. The vast majority of Americans will not receive a tax increase. The link above will give readers a glimpse into the Republican’s record of lying on just about every piece of legislation proposed by Democrats. Lie, obstruct, scare. Repeat lie, obstruct, scare. That is what the GOP has become.

And there will be a wide negative impact on Americans across the board from Seniors on Medicare to small business owners to future generations? Huh?

Lies 3, 4. 5. That, Sir, is called a bold face lie and you are using scare tactics. The bill is not going to hurt Medicare. Period. It will impact Medicare Advantage which some folks, not all, have. Honestly, I find it disingenuous and hypocritical for Republicans, who have wanted to get rid of Medicare for years, are suddenly concerned about and defending it.

A national public option means competition. Therefore small businesses will finally be able to afford to cover employees, or at least offer plans that their employees can afford. What on earth is wrong with that? And as far as hurting future generations this is all a bunch of fear mongering sewage. If anything we’ll have a healthier population precisely b/c 94% of Americans will have access to affordable health care coverage.

While CBO has not been given time to analyze the Reid bill’s impact on premiums, every other independent analysis to date has found that Reid’s new mandates and taxes will increase health care premiums on American families. The Reid bill increases taxpayer spending and liability for health care over the next ten years—instead of reforming our already insolvent entitlement programs. It will gut the already insolvent Medicare program by $464.6 billion, hurting access to care for seniors. It includes a government-run public option that will, according to CBO, have premiums higher than private plans and cause millions of Americans to lose the coverage they currently have. The largest expansion of Medicaid since it was created means the Medicaid program will be the only coverage option for 60 million Americans. It will also impose $28 billion in punitive taxes on employers who do not comply with Washington’s new job-killing mandates.

I should put this entire excerpt in bold b/c it one pack of lies after another.

Lie 6. The so-called independent analysis comes from the Lewin Group that is tied to big insurance.

The Washington Post reported on Thursday that the Lewin Group, a health care research consulting firm, is owned by Minnetonka-based UnitedHealth Group.

Sure, they are independent.

Huge whopper 7. Cornyn said the bill would gut Medicare.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Alliance for Retired Americans Executive Director Edward Coyle, AFSCME Director of Retiree Programs Steve Regenstreif and the Florida Democratic Party today responded to the lies and misinformation the GOP is spreading about seniors and health insurance reform–including RNC’s lies, which today announced a misleading ad on their “Seniors Bill of Lies.”

Since the health insurance reform debate began, the GOP has attempted to spread lies and misinformation about how health insurance reform will affect seniors. But the truth is, President Obama’s reforms will lower costs, protect choice and provide more options. Seniors in particular will benefit from health insurance reform as it will eliminate waste, fraud and abuse in Medicare, will end wasteful subsidies to the insurance companies and close the Medicare Part D prescription drug “donut hole.” For seniors age 50 to 64 who are not yet eligible for Medicare, the reforms proposed by President Obama will ensure that seniors who are between jobs or have a pre-existing condition cannot be denied coverage by the insurance industry.

Indeed, AARP has come forward to debunk the lies spread by Republican lawmakers.

There are many naysayers who have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo and will stop at nothing – including lies — to derail health care reform. Many will try to scare Americans with myths and fabrications about proposed health care legislation —tactics they believe will block vital changes to our nation’s broken health care system.

Make no mistake: opponents of health care reform have powerful tools at their disposal, including the ability to spend exorbitant amounts of money on television, newspaper, and radio ads to spread their myths.

AARP is committed to debunking these myths so that our nation can move toward the ultimate goal of quality, affordable health care for ALL Americans. Here are a few of the most popular myths about health care reform, followed by the facts that debunk them.

Myth: Health care reform will weaken Medicare and reduce benefits.

Fact: This is a scare tactic used by special interest groups trying to block progress on health care reform. The plain fact is that none of the health care reform proposals being considered by Congress would cut Medicare benefits or increase out-of-pocket costs for Medicare services. In fact, rather than weaken Medicare, real health care reform will strengthen the financial solvency of the Medicare program. Let me make this absolutely clear: AARP does not support legislation that would weaken Medicare benefits.

Huge whopper 8. Cornyn says the health care reform bill includes a government run public option that will have premiums higher than private insurance. This is where we see just how joined at the hip John Cornyn is with the health care industry.

Fact: CBO Estimates Show Public Plan With Higher Savings Rate.

In total, a public plan based on Medicare rates would save $110 billion over 10 years. That is $20 billion more than earlier estimates, a spokesman for House Speaker Pelosi said.

There is more.

Lie #1: “trouble … for the national debt.” The public option has been deemed a cost-saver by the Congressional Budget Office, $110B for the strongest proposed plan, $25B for the weaker plan (that is in the Senate bill).

Please. Cry me a freaking river. Republican lawmakers should be reminded that insurance companies are spending millions upon millions of dollars to fight health care reform. Even Fox Fixed News gets it! Maybe if the health insurance industry put those millions into actual health care instead of denying it and handing out death sentences we wouldn’t have needed major HCR in the first place.

The five largest private insurers and the trade group America’s Health Insurance Plans spent a total of $6.4 million in the first quarter, an increase of more than $1 million from the same quarter last year. The industry is working to counter proposals endorsed by the White House that would offer a government health insurance option for millions of Americans.

Besides as Paul Krugman states below, the magic of the marketplace does not work in health care. A public option is less expensive than no public option.

Serious students of health care have known for a long time that the magic of the marketplace doesn’t work in health care; the United States has the most privatized health-care system in the advanced world, and also the least efficient. The pale reflection of this reality in the current discussion is that reform with a strong public option is cheaper than reform without — which means that as we get closer to really doing something, rhetoric about socialism fades out, and that $100 billion or so in projected savings starts to look awfully attractive.

It has also been clear from international evidence that universality is cheaper than leaving a few people expensively without care. That’s reflected now in the projected savings from a strong employer mandate.

Lie 10. John Cornyn implies that health care reform will introduce a new level of entitlement. There they go again with their big ugly entitlement obsession. God forbid should poor folks and the struggling working and middle classes receive something they deserve as everyday hard working Americans.

Lie #2: “it still creates a whole new government entitlement program”. An entitlement program is a government program that people of a certain criteria have a legally enforceable right to get benefits from, meaning the government has to find the funds one way or another. Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are entitlement programs.

The public option simply is not an entitlement program. It would be a choice alongside private plans in a health insurance “exchange” or marketplace. And it would be “self-sustaining,” funded primarily by the premiums of its customers, just like with private insurance.

Government subsidies would help those who couldn’t affordable the premiums. But that is true with any of the plans in the health insurance exchange, public or private.

That big bad guvmint run socialized health care is really about choice and competition. And if our esteemed Republican lawmakers have such a problem with big guvmint run single payer socialized taxpayer funded health care, well, why don’t they give up their own?

It must be nice for folks to have a representative in Congress who will actually stand up for his constituents.

This is a story that is truly disturbing for me to report, but it has to happen.

The animal that killed Shaniya Davis must be put to death, the sooner the better is my preferance.I have no mercy for this person, Mario McNeil,or her terrible mother,and the people who supported them to be able to live this long.

The AP reports that the 5-year-old North Carolina girl was raped and killed the same day she was taken from her home, according to an arrest warrant released Friday. Shaniya Davis was sexually assaulted and asphyxiated Nov. 10, the day her mother reported her missing from the trailer park where she was staying, according to the warrant.

Mario McNeill is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree rape of a child in the warrant, which was issued after police said they collected hair and fibers, clothes, and a straw from his 1997 Mitsubishi Galant. He was initially charged only with kidnapping.

McNeill seemed nervous as he appeared in court Friday for a brief hearing on the latest charges. He nodded his head slightly to the judge’s questions but did not enter a plea. His lawyer, Allen Rogers, left the courtroom with his client and didn’t speak to reporters. He also didn’t return messages left at his office from The Associated Press.

The girl’s mother, Antoinette Davis, is charged with filing a false police report, trafficking her daughter and child abuse involving prostitution.

Her mother does not believe that her daughter harmed her child….so I say that they all should be thrown in jail with the general population.

She had to have known that her daughter is a pig, and was a danger to her defenseless little grand-daughter while she laid back and allowed it to happen.

She should be ashamed to support her vile and viscous daughter, and I suspect that she was a child abuser and molester, and she more than likely taught her daughter how to be one as well.

I hope they all die by the hands of the justice system.

Meanwhile, Shaniya’s father, Bradley Lockhart, appeared on Friday’s “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” where Winfrey asked him if he had anything to say to Davis. He told The Associated Press earlier that he had cared for Shaniya for several years but decided to give Davis a chance to raise her because she seemed to be getting her life together.

“Right now I just think it’s best that we let the justice system take its course,” Lockhart said on the show. “I try to keep my heart as pure as possible, and I’m sure one day I will be able to sit down and talk to her, try and understand what was going through her mind.”

All I can say is that I wish I could be a juror on that trial, because I would not hesitate to vote the death penalty for these cowards…

Okay now that I got your attention here’s what I think.  serial killers are cultivated by parents who needed to abstain from giving life. There should be a test that parents should take in order to pass to have a kid because any asshole in this country and this world can have a kid but no one knows for sure what they are going to grow up to become unless we select each egg and sperm carefully (that’s one way of thinking) but that is not an answer. Why? Because in one family – there may be all good kids except for one and he’s the serial killer??? How do we explain that?

We can’t so like China who does not allow more than one child in a family I think that is what has to happen here in the USA. Otherwise we are going to start having to dump spermicide into our drinking water to sterilize the water so people won’t be able to give birth. This is what a doctor friend of mine suggested to me in 1990s after she had taken care of minority people in a local city hospital – she was disgusted by the clientele and their huge welfare families. Sickening; I am sure; what she suggests is questionable but plausible and I can see people giving it some sort of consideration.

Brusc mi s-a făcut dor de serialu’ Lost, care face de ceva vreme o pauză cam extinsă (până în ianuarie 2010). Cu aşa pauze între sezoane, aproape că uiţi tot ce s-a întâmplat…mai ales la un serial super amanunţit şi misterios ca ăsta.
Probabil că titlu’ nu se referă la ăia de pe insulă, ci la telespectator, care treptat se pierde în atâtea iţe încâlcite.

Serial opowiadał a grupce znajomych tworzących “Stowarzyszenie ciemności”, która co pewien czas spotyka się gdzieś w lesie. Podczas spotkania rozpalają ognisko a jedna z zgromadzonych osób opowiada straszną historyjkę. Serial był bliski memu sercu gdyż poruszał tematykę zjawisk paranormalnych, którą to bardzo lubię. Sam opening choć, niezbyt długi przyprawiał o dreszcze i potrafił wprowadzić odpowiedni klimat, zresztą zobaczcie sami:

Having started this as a very very short piece of fiction, I must confess my surprise that i felt the urge to keep going with it, and I’m rather enjoying the experience so far. I’m kind of surprised that I kept adding more to it. But after writing the original piece, as a five minute fiction, I thought, “hey…I kind of like this idea.” Anyway, here’s the first few parts, collected together to read.

I was dreaming. I was positive I was. She was curled up into a ball next to me. Her blonde hair fell over her face, and she was running her hand up my chest. “I miss you.” She said. “I miss you too.” I replied. She straddled me, and I grabbed her hips. “Won’t be long.” I said.
I woke up.
The nurse had come into the room. My sense of hearing and sight were connected to a small camera / microphone at the front of the case my brain sat in. I’d been here for a year now, a brain in a case, floating in liquid. My body had been horribly horribly burned in a plane crash, beyond anything the doctors could do for me. They did the only thing they could do: Remove my brain and let my body die. My brain was suspended in liquid with life support attached to it.
The nurse was looking at his pad. It apparently provided him with data fed to him from my life support systems. The tap tap tap from him poking at the pad was probably what woke me up. I was always sensitive to that kind of noise, I could never sleep if water was dripping. Even if it was across the house, I had to get up and fix it, or put a cloth under it to stop the noise.
He sat down in the chair next to me after he’d taken a look at the case my brain was in. I used the camera to follow his every move. I was glad they didn’t have to change my fluid today; this was just a routine stop for the nurse as he went from room to room.
Brain cases were situated in small, narrow rooms. They were longer than they were wide, giving them the look of a wide hallway. Most brain cases were given virtual environments to connect to, to minimize the trauma of being disconnected from their bodies. Doctors would “connect” with the patients when talking to them…again, to minimize the trauma of their situations.
After looking over a few things on his pad, the nurse said “Dreaming?” “Yes.” I replied. He never even looked up as he spoke. He was looking at a real time scan of my brain. It seems so strange to say that. But I just can’t bring myself to say that he was looking at a scan of me. My body was long gone. My brain WAS me. I just can’t say it.
I watched him do his nurse thing. We made small talk. “Any good news? ” I asked. “Do I have a brain tumor?” “Hahahah, no, Mr. Lawson.”
I don’t think that nurse ever realized just how much I hated him for being able to move around, to see with his own eyes. I hated that he could go somewhere and eat, or pick up a hooker after work, take her somewhere, and fuck her. I hated him for all the things that I couldn’t have, and couldn’t do. I hated him for having a body.
I wanted to go back to sleep. I wanted to dream of Holly again. She left me a little while before the plane crash. She called me at the hospital, after I’d been stabilized in the case. She wanted to come visit. I told her no. I said, “Look after the kids.” She’d started crying. We had gotten divorced for stupid reasons. Fighting over money, that kind of shit. Basically taking our stress out on each other. We never meant it. We just didn’t know how to deal with it.
“Seriously.” I said to the nurse. “Kill me.” “Can’t do that,” he said. “I was kidding.” I said,”Seriously, I was kidding.” Awkward silence followed. He got up from the chair a few minutes later and turned to leave.
“You gotta hang in there Mr. Lawson. Won’t be long before the airliner comes through on the medical bills, and then you’ll be able to get a new body.” He walked towards the door of the room, gripping his pad, and walked out.

The lights in my room were low, making it difficult to see a great deal with my cam. There wasn’t really anything to see. There wasn’t even a television, or a web connection. They didn’t want me getting upset about looking at real people…I’d stopped thinking of myself as a real person months and months ago…I could barely stand the idea of being disembodied. I didn’t need it rubbed in my face, they figured, by having a tv on.
I think they were wrong about the webs though. I could have connected virtually with people, and that would have made me feel a little better…but the inevitable “i really want to meet you” scenario would have come up. What would I have said, that I had to go on a trip to Jamaica to help refugees evacuate from rising sea levels? Christ.
But, the lights were low, and I found it was actually painful…well, not painful exactly. I didn’t feel the usual pain associated with low lighting…I didn’t have eyes. So, the actual pain created from eyes trying to adjust wasn’t there. In fact, there were a lot of things I didn’t suffer. It really helped sharpen my mind, in that respect, because I didn’t feel the physical aspect of being sleepy, or crying. I didn’t feel any of those things. That was what took the most getting used to…other than not having a body…it was the things that you associated having a body with that was the strangest part of it. It’s almost impossible to explain. That’s why most brain cases got simulated environments, so they didn’t have to really deal with that kind of shit. But, I can try to explain what it was like in reverse…Imagine that you are nothing but eyes and ears, and you can only look in one general direction. Now, remember that when you want to cry, you’ll feel nothing. No heaving, no sobbing sounds, no tears…Nobody can hold you and comfort you. Your pulse won’t quicken, your eyes won’t become sore…and nobody would be able to tell you’re crying because your voice box comes directly from your brain, and there’s no flesh to make your voice crack. Imagine what it would be like to exist purely as a mind with no body. When you see someone attractive, you don’t feel the blood rush to your sex. You feel a vague…something…but there’s no blood rush to anywhere, so you feel…nothing but a recognition that they’re attractive. Imagine that.

After I said “seriously, kill me” to the nurse, I was expecting a visit from a psychiatrist or something. They had them on staff at the hospital. They practically lived for talking to brain cases, besides. Don’t ask me why.
I could tell the nurse had been really annoyed by my asking him to kill me. I couldn’t blame him, really. I mean, who asks a nurse something like that? But I couldn’t help it. I HAD been going insane. You show me anyone other than a goddamned Buddhist monk, maybe, and I’ll show you someone who’d lose their shit if they were just a goddamned brain in a jar. It had been, christ, a year at that point, that I was in there. I think maybe longer.
So, when the shrink came in to see me, I wasn’t really surprised. She came in and sat down in the chair by me. I registered that she was attractive, of course. Slim body, slight cleavage, hair back in a bun and glasses. The parts of my brain that were expecting to register an erection spun their wheels uselessly as I looked at her.
“How’re you feeling?” she asked. I didn’t respond at first. Finally I said “that’s about the stupidest question anyone’s asked me, under the circumstances.” She looked dead at the camera for a few moments. Then she said, ” I know you’re going crazy in there. It’s a horrible thing that’s happened to you. I’m not going to mince words, but I’m not going to humor your self-pitying my life is over crap. See, when I ask how you’re feeling, I expect an actual answer. As in, I expect you to tell me just how bad your crazies are.” That kind of shocked me. Not that she’d said it to me, but that she’d said it at all.
“I’m losing my mind. I know it. I have murder fantasies about killing people out of revenge for their having bodies. I asked the nurse to kill me the other day. I told him I was kidding.”
“Were you kidding?”
“I don’t know.” I said. “Maybe it was a little of both.” She nodded. “You’re new here.” I said.
“Yes.”
“So,” I said, “are you new to brain cases, or you been talking to them for awhile?” She leaned back in the chair, stretching out her legs a little, and kind of relaxing. She said, “I’ve been doing it for about ten years. I just got to St. Gerome’s a few days ago.” She took a sip of coffee and said, “I’m here to talk about you. Your case is extreme in that you’ve been in a case longer than anyone else. Most people are put into a body about three months at the most after being put in a case. The effect it’s having on you…I can’t believe you’re even talking at this point.”
I thought about it. Thought about why I was still thinking, talking, able to interact. “I’m holding on because I want to beat the living crap out of those corporate fuckers that have me stuck in here. I can’t even get net access. They won’t pay for it. I want to watch them hurt.” I said.
She nodded and said “My name’s Doctor Stevens.” She took a sip of her drink and then said, “That’s a good motivation for staying in the real world.”
“Yes.” I said. “It is.”

Sitting in a case, day in and day out, no arms or legs…It’s like a parody of Johnny Got His Gun…with the exception that you can talk and hear people. I’d been in the case for about a year at this point, if I’m not mistaken.
I apologize if I get caught up in describing what it’s like to be in that state, but I get hung up on it quite easily. I feel the need to convey what it’s like, to get it out of my system. Everything about being disembodied is nightmarish, and I still feel a certain futility in describing it.
You have no sense of balance, for one thing; no ears. I would often feel like I was suffocating, because I had no lungs. Your brain is hard wired to receive these sensations. People often ask me if there’s a sense of having a “ghost body”, something akin to a phantom limb. No, there is no such sensation. Phantom limb sensation, as I understand it, is caused by the nerves of what’s left of the limb. It tells the brain that the hand or leg is there, so the brain says “Oh, ok.” This even though the brain can plainly see that there’s nothing there.
So, I’d spend my days dizzy and suffocating at first, till I learned to filter out those sensations. After a few months, I was fine, as far as coping with my brain trying to process sensations that weren’t there. After awhile the doctors stabilized those centers of my brain that were causing such sensations, and I didn’t have to filter it out. They only did this after it became apparent that the airline wasn’t going to come through anytime soon, in terms of finding me a body. The process of deadening those centers can cause permanent damage to a varying percentage of people, making it impossible to ever put a brain into a new body.
At times, I think it would have been better if I couldn’t see or hear anything, or speak. That way I wouldn’t have had anything to react to, and it would have been like I was in a very peaceful and dark place. It would have been a nice illusion, but honestly, I think that would have driven me insane. By the time they found a body for me, I’d have suffered terribly. Not that I didn’t suffer in other ways, but the isolation would have caused an emotional schism that I wouldn’t have recovered from.
I would occasionally protest my condition when I’d get a visit from a doctor. I’d say things like “this is inhumane, you should find a body for me now, what kind of doctor are you to let me suffer”. That kind of crap. The doctors sympathized. They were good people but they were actually legally restricted from doing the body transplant pro bono. In fact they had signed papers stating that they would not do this, in my specific case, as long as the airline was investigating its legal recourse in the matter.
I still don’t get all the intricacies of the legal bullshit. What it did was create a lock on any kind of procedure that would allow me to actually get placed with a new body. When you’re waiting, every day, for somebody to walk through the door and tell you that they’ve got good news, and day after day it doesn’t happen…and you’re stuck staring at a tiny room, with only your thoughts to keep you company…I’m just trying to make it as clear as possible what it was like for me, and I don’t mean to get all dramatic. I’m just trying to get it out of my system.

They say that any landing you can walk away from is a good one. I don’t know if my situation, such as it is, applies. After all, I didn’t walk away from the plane crash. I was dragged out of burning wreckage. It’s not the same thing, you know?
In the old days, if a plane went down, you went down with it. These days, they have mass ejection systems for passengers. Your seat slides down into a pod. Once you’re in, the pod closes and is ejected. Ideally the passenger’s seat is slid into the pod and it’s sealed within a period of about eight seconds. Your chair doesn’t fall into position as much as it is lowered into place very quickly. Eight seconds is about right, I think. This happens simultaneously, with all passengers dropped into their pods at the same time. The pods aren’t sealed until just before the passengers are dropped. There’s a two second gap between each pod. Usually what happens is, the pods are ejected one at a time. They can override that and launch two at a time. It’s done randomly, so you can’t pick a spot on the plane based on when you’d get ejected from it.
I did some research after the crash, about how those things work. Apparently they rely on electromagnetic technology to make the pods float down to earth at a slower level of speed. It’s the emergency ejection that’s the real bitch. They only use those pods if a plane is going down like a bat out of hell. And, you know, even then it’s not a guarantee. Obviously if a plane cartwheels on the runway, you’re nothing short of fucked no matter what, right?
There’s a lot of stuff they don’t tell you voluntarily about the ejection pods. There’s a short period of acceleration to make sure the pods are slammed out and away from the plane. The tubes open on the plane’s belly, shooting the pod out, like a giant metal bird shitting out an egg in mid-flight. That’s what they look like.
Once the egg is safely away from the plane, the mag field kicks in, slowing its speed to something like an elevator. The closer it gets to the ground, the slower it descends.
Once the passengers are safely ejected, the crew of the plane moves to a group pod, usually below the cockpit. I’ve seen pictures of that thing. It essentially looks like an elevator on the inside, with a few modifications. The plane is set to autopilot, and ordered to find as clear an open space as possible from civilization. That means that if the plane is over a city like say New York, it ditches into the ocean. If it’s in New Mexico, then it’s going to ditch in the desert, of course. And what happens if the plane is too damaged to do anything like steering? Then the pilots stay aboard and ride it out, to try to keep the plane from becoming a giant missile. There’s usually one or two coffin-style emergency pods, just in case of something like that happening, like say the pilots manage to get temporary control of the plane, and they manage to point it towards a nice patch of terrain. The stewardesses have already gone byebye in the crew pod. The pilots hustle to the coffins and gtfo.
It’s funny, how they put so much stock in these safety pods, when most times there’s no time to eject. Alot of times, a plane is going to crash on take off, or during landing, right? When that happens, the passenger pods are supposed to create “an extra level of safety”. They’re supposed to be fire proof, impact proof…that kind of thing.
I want to tell you, real quick, before I go any further…the crew did every goddamned thing they could to stop that plane from crashing. They really did try to be heroes, dammit. And then there was the stewardess.
You may have an idea in your head, of what happened, even before I say it. My escape pod jammed in the tube. The accelerator shorted out. The plane had an electrical fire. It’s a rare goddamned thing, but that sort of shit still happens with planes, even with all the safety features. So, the engines started shutting down. With only one engine left, and no control of the plane at all. That’s when they started ejecting us.
I could feel the plane jolt as each pod was pushed out, one after another. The pod closed, then tilted and rotated into a launch position, so that I’d be facing the angle of descent instead of away from it. I could hear barely hear the wind beneath me as the launch tube opened. I thought “shit…this is it.” I tensed up, trying to prepare for it. Then there was a loud popping sound and a grinding, whirring sound and a thump thump thump sound against the sides of the capsule.
At first I didn’t know what had happened. The flight attendants had been very clear in describing the escape pod launch procedure. A “please wait for assistance” light flashed on the wall in front of me. The thump thump thump started slowing down. The grinding sounds stopped. I remember shouting “HELLO?”. And then I just started shouting, period. I don’t remember what all I was screaming. I looked above my head, and saw an emergency release lever. I popped it open, but it wouldn’t open all the way. It was blocked by the hatch that had closed right after my seat had been lowered. I began frantically slamming the pod door against the
hatch. I heard voices….I heard someone say “That’s it, they’re all clear.” Then I heard another voice say “What’s that banging?”
It hadn’t really dawned on me that I might be in a really really bad situation. As the voices got closer, and one of them said “Oh my God, that one’s jammed” I began to get that sickening feeling. Fear is kind of like a fever, you know? You feel it, and think, oh I’m ok. I’m fine. Nothing’s wrong.” Then, when things get worse, it begins to dawn on you that you may have something serious. Then you really start to get scared when you realize that you SHOULD be scared. So I started screaming even louder, but I wasn’t actually afraid yet, I figured, hey, they’ll get me out of here and I’ll just get in another pod. That’s the kind of stupid thinking you do when you’re starting to get scared, and you’re trying to think rationally, and you’re trying to keep calm.
I felt the plane dip a little, felt my stomach trying to keep up with the rest of my body, and it was like a roller coaster. I heard someone shout, “HIT THE OVERRIDE! JUST DROP HIM!” I shouted up at them, “GET ME THE HELL OUT OF HERE!” I banged the pod door against the hatch again, frantically as I felt the plane dip again. I’m pretty sure I heard people falling down above me, or getting knocked into walls or something. When I heard a voice say “you’re going to be ok” I calmed down. I heard muffled sounds above me. I relaxed a little.
That’s when I realized, I could smell smoke. You know, the kind of smell that comes from electrical fires.
The smell was really strong. I closed the lid of my pod to keep out the smell and the heat, which was getting worse.
…Back in the day, I worked as an electrician before I became an EMT. I’d have to say that being an electrician was a better job, if only because I got a lot of time to myself. Ironic that I ended up having so much time to myself later. Anyway, I was brought in on a contracting gig to inspect bad wiring at a hotel. Apparently some of the wiring had caught fire. The smell on the plane was exactly like that. That’s how I knew, something Bad had happened.
Voices above me were yelling “It’s not the sequence circuit, it’s the launch mechanism.” then “We need to get him out, we’ll put him on the lifeboat!” then “pry it open then!” Then I heard another voice say “We’ve got five minutes to get off the plane.” Silence. Then I heard a woman say “Go. I’m going to try to get him out of here.” About sixty seconds later, I felt another jolt, heard something underneath me go screaming by. Then I heard the woman above me yell down to me, “Listen, your pod is stuck, I’m going to try to get you of it.”
“THERE’S A FIRE down here!” I screamed back at her. “WE KNOW!” She shouted back. The plane was picking up speed, it seemed like. The plane began pitching forward, into a sharp angle of descent. I felt like I was in some kind of horrible recliner. My equilibrium told me I was tilting backwards, which meant that the plane was beginning to go into a dive.
“We’re not going to get him out of there in time!” came a man’s voice. “GODDAMMIT! HE CAN HEAR YOU!” the stewardess screamed at somebody I assume was part of the flight crew. “Oh God.” I thought. None of it was real, my brain wouldn’t let me think of it as real.
I had a moment then, a real peaceful moment that I didn’t think was possible. I stopped clenching my arm rests, stopped thinking about anything. I became calm. They talk about how you hear another voice say something, but it’s coming from your mouth. I hate that phrase. But, that’s what it was. I didn’t make a conscious decision to do it. I yelled “GET OFF THE PLANE! IT’S OKAY!”
I didn’t know it at the time, but there were only three emergency pods on the plane. There were four people.
I heard somebody say “She’s going.” Heard the stewardess shout profanities in protest. At this point, there was maybe two minutes left to “abandon ship”. I don’t know what happened next. I felt another jolt and felt the plane shudder, then I heard what I assume was the stewardess’ pod go whistling by.
The plane was beginning to dip more sharply now. I became aware of tilting back even further, my back facing the direction of the ground. The crew members were arguing. In case you’re wondering, my seat had been near the front of the plane, which is why I was able to hear so much of their arguing. Just an fyi for clarification. “You’re fucking going, Tom.” “Fuck YOU!” “What about HIM?” a third man said, referring to me.
“FORGET ABOUT ME!” I shouted up at them. Sixty seconds to go.
“GET INTO THE DAMNED POD!” shouted the voice that I later found out belonged to Paul Howard. He was the flight engineer. It turns out, he was the only one of the three that didn’t have kids. In fact, his wife and two kids had been in a car accident. His wife lived. His kids didn’t. Unfortunately, his wife was brain dead and in a hospital when somebody “accidentally” pulled the plug on her life support.
There was silence followed by two thumps and more windy, whistling sounds. Then a voice said to me, much closer this time, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
That’s when my brain let my mind know, it was really real.

Johann Johnson was a writer. He published his first book in 2112. It was about a guy, an olympic class runner. The character’s name was Tim Travis. In the book, he’s in this horrific accident…gets cut nearly in half and has to be put in a critical care pod. And I thought, jesus, that’s a pain that’d be hard to get over.

Not to get on a tangent, but sometimes I really wonder about who the asshole was that started putting the name “pod” in every goddamned phrase you can think of…critical care pod, ejection pod, etc. Seriously, in the world I was living in, I couldn’t get away from that damned word. When they took my brain out of my skull, it was put in a suspension pod. What’s wrong with the word “chamber”? Or “unit”? It’s like it was a federal law or something, everything having to do with containing a person had to have the word “pod” in it.

Anyway, they tried reattaching his lower body to this guy’s body, but they couldn’t do it. Too many mangled bits below the torso. So they give him a lower body transplant. The problem is, they can’t find a set of legs that match his old ones. They give him the parts of a guy that’s maybe 5 feet 6 inches, and it effectively ends Travis’ running career…though, honestly, getting cut in half had already effectively done that. But Travis freaks out. And, when he gets out of the hospital, the first thing he does is he goes and buys a gun, and walks into a random building and shoots everybody on the first floor. Then he walks into the building next door and does it again. And again, and again, working his way through five blocks of buildings before the police catch up to him. And he’s screaming at the police and he’s waving the gun around, and he shoots at the building across the street from where he’s standing. And that’s when the cops gun him down.

They rush up to him, and he’s bleeding to death, and he’s coughing and holding on to the gun, and he pulls the trigger but it’s empty. And his last words are “I’m done runnin’.”

Crazy shit.

I didn’t think Dr Stevens meant to give me an audio book to listen to that ended quite that way. Took her quite a bit of doing to get permission to let me listen to it in the first place. I dont know why that is. Strikes me as odd, though, that it would even be an issue. I couldn’t understand at the time why the hospital administrators even gave a shit about whether or not I got to listen to an audio book, but apparently to them it was a big deal. Honestly, when it comes down to it, I think Stevens sweet-talked the nurses into going along with it. Whatever. I’m just grateful that I finally got something that broke the monotony. The point is, I didn’t think she’d meant to give me a book to listen to that would give me the idea to go killing people, whenever I finally got a body transplant.

A few days after I finished listening it, Dr Stevens came in and had a sit down with me. She had her cup of coffee and her clipboard. “So, yeah. You’re probably wondering why I gave you a book about a guy in a similar position that ends in him committing mass murder.” she said. “Yeah,” I replied, “You might say that.” She just stretched her legs and kind of slumped down in her chair, took another sip of coffee and rubbed her eyes.

“You could take it in one of two ways. Escapist fantasy that you can use to precariously satisfy the daydreams youve been having, God, I’m not going to say this right. I’m alot better at getting in people’s heads, so to speak…sorry.”

“It’s okay”, I said, “Go on.” “You need to realize that you’re not crazy, first of all. Second, you need to be reminded that these fantasies you’re having….It’s a fine line between a fantasy and actually plotting to do something.” she finally said. Then she looked at me, right at me. She said “It’s fine to have a daydream about committing acts of violence. I think everybody does it. That doesn’t make it a good idea. I know you already understand that. I just want to make sure that you really get it.” That was the only lecture she ever gave me about my murder fantasies, and it was actually quite a bit longer and eloquent, but that’s what I remember, and even that isn’t word for word, but it catches the jist of it, at least…I think…I’m not sure. I’d like to tell you it word for word, but I’ve got a bad memory when it comes to remembering things people say. Be that as it may, certain things that happened are etched in my mind, obviously. It’s just important to me that I make it clear that I don’t remember word for word everything that happened. You’d think the exact opposite would true, what with me having to rely on my mind to get by. She did make a point of bringing up my fantasies, trying to find out if my attitude had become more nihlistic. After the 7th or 8th time going over them, I finally said, “Look, I’m rational enough that I know the difference between self-pity and plotting to kill people.” Because that’s what my fantasies were, really. They stemmed from me feeling sorry for myself. They came from resentment and irrational jealousy. I was smart enough to know that, which is why I always said they were fantasies.

She started bringing in audio books for me once a week. I’d never really been much for books. I never had the time when I was older, and I was never really into reading when I was younger. I was one of those kids that liked to go hiking, swimming…that’s the kind of kid I was. When she started bringing having me listen to stuff like Tom Sayer and Catch 22 it was weird at first. It was like I’d been living my life with a bunch of different worlds floating around me, and I never noticed them. And then when I did, I felt like an idiot, or felt like I’d been blind or something, and that I was just now noticing this stuff made me realize what I’d been missing. I know that the fact that the audio books broke the monotony of my life, and gave me something to focus on, that made me really become attached to them. At any rate, they grew on me very very quickly.

Listening to the audio books, ultimately, was a way of living precariously through them…Helped me picture a life beyond the walls I was forced to stare at. Some days, I’d be listening to them and could almost see what was happening in full detail, instead of my little room. In a weird way, fiction reminded me of what it meant to have a real life. There’s a nice bit of irony for you.

Bender (pentru cine nu știe încă, un robot specilizat pe îndoit chestii, de unde și numele) e într-o croazieră pe un Titanic spațial, dar care, ghicim de la început, sfîrșește la fel ca cel oceanic. Cred că puține replici spuse vreodată în vreun serial, animat sau nu, sau chiar lung metraj, reușesc să creeze umor la eficient ca aceasta. Și asta nu e tot, pentru că ce era mai bun a fost păstrat pentru la sfîrșit, cînd Titanicul sfîrșește într-o gaură neagră. Contesa stă agățată de Bender, iar acesta stă agățat  de un escape-pod. Dar motoarele acestuia, în care se afla restul echipajului din Futurama, sînt prea slabe ca să învingă forța găurii negre, căci cei doi roboți sînt grei. Contesa își dă seama de asta și îl roagă pe Bender să îi dea drumul în gaura neagră. Dar Bender nu vrea să îi dea drumul. Nu pot să trăiesc fără tine, spune el.

Robo-contesa răspunde: You have to let me go. You will suffer for a while, but eventually you will find someone else to share your love with. After all, it’s shareware.

Dacă ar fi doar aceste două replici, și Futurama tot ar fi cel mai tare serial animat făcut vreodată. But there s much more where that came from.

Shaniya Davis Pimped,Molested,and Muredered by her Mom...

I know that children are a blessing and that they should always be protected. Babies and little children look towards their mothers primarily for that unconditional bond of love,trust and safety.

It is incredible to think that people can be so cruel and inhuman to children. It is sick that a mother could sexually molest their own child, and unthinkable to think that a mother would profit from the sexual  molestation of her own small child, it is uncomfortable for me to have to even be aware that it is even possible.

Today, the AP is reporting that this very thing has happened. A missing innocent little child, Shaniya Davis has been found dead, at the hands of her own mother , who pimped her out to a sexual deviant. The precious little baby girl had no chance at life, at the hands of her worthless, and heartless mother.

She deserves all of societies contempt and hatred for this unspeakable act of man’s inhumanity to man.

Searchers found Shaniya Davis’ body early Monday afternoon about 100 feet off a road southeast of Sanford, in central North Carolina, Fayetteville Police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said. She declined to comment on a cause of death or the condition of Shaniya’s body.

The missing 5 year old’s own mother, Antoinette Davis, 25 is charged with human trafficking and felony child abuse.

An accomplice, Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, will face kidnapping charges. He was seen on surveillance footage carrying Shaniya at a Sanford hotel. As a result, another man who was arrested last week has been freed.

Davis  reported Shaniya missing last Tuesday.Authorities first arrested a man named Clarence Coe, but charges against him were dropped a day later when investigators tracked down McNeill after receiving a tip from a hotel employee.

Additional information led investigators to a search site near Sanford on Sunday. They continued searching Monday, scouring miles of landscape, roads, ravines and fields on four-wheelers and with helicopters.

According to arrest documents cited by The Fayetteville Observer, Davis “knowingly provide(d) Shaniya Davis with the intent that she be held in sexual servitude” and she “permit(ted) an act of prostitution.”

Shaniya had only been living with her mother since last month,when Shaniya’s father, Bradley Lockhart,  decided to let her stay with her mother.

Lockhart said he had raised his daughter for several years but last month thought it would be good for his daughter to be raised by her mother.”I should’ve never let her go over there,” he said Saturday.

Lockhart told The Associated Press on Saturday that he and Davis never argued about him raising Shaniya, and Cumberland County courts had no record of a custody dispute. He described his relationship with Davis as a “one-night stand” and said he did not know McNeill.

Davis struggled financially over the years, but she recently obtained a job and her own place, so Lockhart said he decided to give her a chance to raise their daughter

It proved to be a death sentence for his daughter, and he must be shocked to find out that he delivered his baby daughter into the hands of her mother who is a monster. Prostituting your 5-year-old baby daughter is an activity that one has probably been involved with before.

I bet little Shaniya was excited to be with her mother, as all little baby 5 year olds would be.

I demand that they force her to turn over all the names and information of the sick pedophiles that she had sold her daughter to for the past four weeks prior to her murder.

After Shaniya’s body was found, a solemn group of searchers met quietly at a nearby fire station to ensure that all volunteers were accounted for.

“We were hoping that someone could carry her home,” said Syd Severe, 42, who came from Raleigh to help with the search. “It’s just sick.”

Authorities have said McNeill admitted to taking the girl, though his attorney says he will plead not guilty to the charge. They have not said if McNeill and Davis knew each other.

Miss Davis’s aunt, Leona Cromertie, said her niece also had a son and was pregnant.

I cite this as a case that is worthy of the death penalty.

I pray that this child can find peace in death,because the realization of the torture and sexual abuse that she endured up until the molester snapped her neck or however he killed this beautiful innocent child is unbearable for me to comprehend.

Recuerdo un anuncio que salía hace algunos años en la televisión, el cual decía:

“Si no sabes programar, no sabes computación”.

El anuncio en cuestión vendía un curso de Power Builder y con el tiempo me he dado cuenta que ese dicho es verdad.

Me he dado cuenta que en nuestro país hace falta mucho en materia de enseñanza en el ramo de las tecnologías de la informacíon. De nada sirve que hasta en el jardín de niños impartan la materia de cómputo si la verdad la manera en que se lleva a cabo tal enseñanza deja mucho que desear.

La peor parte viene en la gran cantidad de supuestas escuelas de computación que existen hoy día, en las cuales se venden carreras “cortas” como “Tecnico en computación”, “Técnico en análisis de sistemas” y similares.

Si nos ponemos a observar detenidamente los planes de estudio de las mismas nos encontraremos que la mayoria tiene gran cantidad de materias. La pregunta es: ¿Cómo hacen para enseñar todas en año y medio o 2 años?

La respuesta es simple: solo abarcan una embarrada de cada cosa, al menos para mi sería preferible que sus planes de estudio abarcaran 4 o 5 materias (“programas”) pero manejados por lo menos a un nivel intermedio.

Aunado a eso nos encontraremos que la maroría de los “profes” que ahí laboran encajan en una de las siguientes categorías:

• Ingenieros o licenciados fracasados (o sea gente que estudió Informatica por que le obligaron o peor, no sabe ni por que)
• Exalumnos de esa misma escuela
• Gente X que por saber imprimir una hoja en Word terminó dando clases.
• Gente que no sabe ni encender un equipo pero es amigo de un directivo de la escuela
• Lo tipico en cualquier empresa, gente que consiguio el puesto pot medio de “acostones” (aunque eso se ve mas en puestos directivos).

Antes de proseguir, aclaro que no tengo nada en contra de como hayan llegado a dar clase (pues yo mismo, que trabajo en una escuela de “compu”, entraría en la segunda categoría), lo que se me hace muy mal es que si llegan a “dar clases” con pocos o nulos conocimientos se queden “estancados” en el mismo lugar. Esto lo digo por que lejos de interesarse en aprender las materias que no saben, se ponen “sus moños” y no hay poder humano que los haga aprenderse los módulos que desconocen. Si de verdad que es tan bonito aprender…

Por si eso fuera poco, algunas veces tambien existe al frente de la escuela gente que sobresale por su ineptitud, que quizas ha conseguido estar de directivo por talentos ajenos al laboral (vease último punto en la lista de arriba). Asi que imaginen a donde va a parar la cosa.

Por cierto, si lees esto y tu intencion era inscribirte en una escuela de “compu” como las que menciono en este texto mi intención no es desanimarte. Recuerda que estudiar es bueno; “el conocimiento es poder”. Solo sigue estos pequeños consejos:

• Nunca te quedes con lo que te de el profe en clase. Recuerda que quizas (digamos un 90%) te toque un profe que no sepa mucho, asi que válete de ti mismo y amplia tus horizontes, existen manuales, existe Google, en fin.. hay muchos textos relaxionados esperando a ser leidos.
• Exige al profe ejemplos diferentes a los que vengan en el manual (si es que hay), de ser posible visita una empresa y consigue un ejemplo real para que sea resuelto en las clases.
• Haz ensayos y conclusiones. Aunque el profe no deje tarea elabora tus propias conclusiones de cada tema.
• Participa en concursos y exposisiones
• Ayuda a tus compañeros. La mejor forma al alcance de un estudiante de reforzar lo aprendido es ayudando a los compañeros que les cuesta trabajo. (Ojo: dije AYUDARLES, más no HACERLES EL TRABAJO).
• Cada materia debe llevar un proyecto final. Si la materia en curso es Excel, pues entonces hay que realizar un proyecto donde se use Excel a su máxima expresion. Si la materia que cursas es Access, pues exije al profe que hagan un sistema entero en Access, etc.

Y ya que hablamos de Access pues que decir, hace algunos meses hice un sistema que me encargo mi amiga Dora. Era algo sencillo, unas tablitas en Access para controlar los pedidos y apartados de una pequeña base de datos.

Espero que la máquina donde se “instalo” nunca tenga que ser formateada por que aunque respalden el archivo cuando lo vuelvan a poner les va a pedir un número de serie. ¿Por qué? se preguntaran… pues fácil, por una pequeña rutina que verifica si ya se ha ejecutado.

¿Cómo funciona esa rutina?

Busca en el registro de Windows el número de serie y si lo encuentra pues muestra el formulario de trabajo, si no lo encuentra, saca otro formulario solicitandolo.
