So much for eating healthy. I am definitely eating pizza and cheese puffs for breakfast while listening to Serj Tankian. Well Serj isn’t really that unhealthy.

Autumn is my favorite season for many reasons. One of them of course being leaves.  This was taken with my 70-300mm Tamron lens. I love the lens for it’s great macro shots and easy bokeh.  It also is incredibly sharp even when handheld. I really hope to get more leaf pictures before it get’s too cold.

Trying to get all of my sites updated is a task that I am actually making great progress on. Cleaning my room is a whole different matter.

I have been posting information on Iran …. I wanted it to be anonymous, just give the information pure. I did not want to cross reference the two sites. Unfortunately, I was accused of Spamming and therefore, I had to only provide links…..back to my site. That was never my intention.

The Iranian people and friends must know what is happening, but not find excuses to not participate.

This site…I love this site. This site helped me through my Chapel Perilous. This album….it resonated through my fight. I have nothing but praise for the authenticity of the work.

But….

I knew people didn’t like my “way of blogging”. Look, I have been working since I was 12 years old. Blogging was never going to be something that I would have time for. Until the events that transpired in my life….so I learned there.

I know I come with my own design. I have always been respected (even when I was annoying the regular bloggers)…..they never made me feel unwelcome.
I never have been challenged either….until yesterday. Of course, those of you who follow me know I wasn’t working yesterday. For fun….I thought I would share this with you:

Kidding…I have a dry sense of humor and love to play with words.

I wasn’t a good student in school. My parents taught me only how to farm and survive off the land. I had no time to sit at a dinner table, learn to put a napkin on my lap, or for god’s sake which fork to use and in what order.

I was confused when Cheerleaders got better grades than I did. I was frustrated when my teachers read a news paper and told me to read a history book.

I read in US Today about a college in the top 10 list. This is the same college Matt Groening (Simpsons) graduated.

In 11th grade I made an appointment with the counselor and explained my catch 22. I said, “I can learn here.” and I was told I was accepted.

I was pretty punk rock. I can remember my two friends Greg & Tommy I played with at recess from K-3rd grade.

I remember in 4th a girl coming up and asking to be friends … ugh.
I remember in 6th the popular girls had a club. So the unpopular girls wanted their club.
I remember standing in the middle of the field….group to my left….group to my right. I said to myself….Heather….You belong to no group.

In my senior year of high school I was put in a Foster Home. I was emancipated, but on one condition. I returned to the farm for 2 weeks and the night I graduated (at 17) I was allowed to move out on my own before the legal age of 18.

I didn’t go to my high school graduation party. I went straight to Evergreen State College.

Well….when I arrived….I was a Christian, Skateboarder, wore make-up and shaved my legs. I was a total outcast. Students couldn’t wait to debate me and I couldn’t wait to proclaim they were sheep.
Thank God I was a Christian. Because as one guy told me at a party, “At least you are not a hypocrite….you drink Dr Pepper and never have sex with anyone.”

My room mates….they all caught a VD. I escaped through college…….there….

now the Prince….
I was introduced to that book and I was the only one who saw it for as it was. Fucking Human Nature.
Hate it all you want….we have not evolved, and he told it like it was.

Also….
The CIA came to campus and wanted to set up booths. OMG…everyone had a meeting and I decided to show up. I listened for hours to the “liberals” discuss taking away free speech on campus. I finally couldn’t take it. I shoved the whole table back with everyone sitting around and I said, “ENOUGH….you have spoken for hours about the atrocities of the CIA, and why they should not be allowed on CAMPUS, but you are condemning the Freedom of Speech, a constitutional right, and if you decide who is allowed to speak, than someday someone else will decide who is allowed to speak, and it will not be you or I. Do not become that which you say you do not represent. Allow them to have their voice, and you come and pass out flyers and talk to people who are attracted to the booth and tell them why you do not think they should be supported, but to ban them, is to only ban ourselves.

Ok, So we all know it’s been far far too long since my last blog post.

I did consider just for a minute writing a long boring account of everything I’ve achieved photographically over the last year or so – but then I decided that just showing you all my favourite pictures from recent times might just be enough.

So the short version is – this year saw me shoot my very first Reading Festival as a fully fledged card carrying agency photographer - (For Retna UK, many thanks to all the people there – especially Kelly Wong who is amazing!), My first Wedding (though I’m doing my next, next week so get those bookings in for 2010 if you want a unique and quirky perspective on your wedding day photographs) – all those years shooting bands under pressure make me pretty unflappable! I’ve set up my own portrait studio at home, I’m ready to launch myself as a full time photographer next year with lots of help and support from friends and family – so please pass on my details to everyone you know!

Consciously I can not prepare a new site without giving some attention to the updates. I decided I must make time in my day to share the information I am following. Currently, it is the human suffering in Iran. I have completely given up on cable news. I find it like watching a soap opera, and when I turn it on, I think to myself, they are STILL talking about this! Does the plot ever change? Unfortunately, no. What is the news telling me, or telling you? I know what it is doing, it is distracting us from what is important. It is feeding into fear, and it is causing dissention instead of common good. Remember the news motto…

So as important as child abduction is, we do not see the children of all colors and creeds being covered: Natalie Holloway in Aruba, or the beautiful Elizabeth Smart, Haleigh in Florida, Jaceey Lee Dugard in California, Madeline McCann, and the list of blond girls abducted leading the news goes on and on….which thank god they get covered, and with due diligence, but wait ….. there are so many abductions, rapes, murders of many boys and girls ….. don’t you think the news time spent beating a story to death could be spread out to mention and support all the other victims?

So if the news is using image to attract viewership and sell ads, then what does that say about us who watch it? The question begs asking, “Why is the news not leading with the Iranian story?” Is it because we are a Christian nation and they are Muslims? Is it because they are unjustly labeled as terrorists? Is it because we think that they deserve what happens to them? Why? These things happen everywhere, as in The Rwandan Genocide, 1994 mass killing of hundreds of thousands of Rwanda’s Tutsis and Hutu political moderates by Hutus under the Hutu Power ideology. Over the course of class; class=”hiddenSuggestion” pre=”">approximately 100 days, from the assassination of Juvénal Habyarimana on April 6 through mid-July, at least 500,000 people were murdered. Most estimates indicate a death toll between 800,000 and 1,000,000, which could be as high as 20% of the total population.. Why did we not help? Was it because they were black? Seriously? Why do we not demand truth in our information? Why do we watch hours and hours of discussion about Michael Jackson, when any updates could be handled in 30 seconds? Do we really need to contemplate that for months on end? Why are we discussing for hours and hours the rape of innocent children….because of the sex and debauchery, and violence. Everything we say we deplore and yet feed into the consciousness of our brains? Sigh.

However, Mousavi stated that a recount would not be sufficient since 14 million unused ballots were missing, giving the Interior Ministry an opportunity to manipulate the results. On June 19, Supreme Leader Ayatullah Ali Khamenei denounced the pro-Mousavi demonstrations as illegal, and protests the next day were met with stiff resistance from government forces, with many reported deaths.

A shockingly awesome animation from Warcraft – a music video to Sky Is Over. My thoughts are any time music combines with motion of animation, and syncs really well, speaks volumes to the artists …. who most likely never even met each other. I have no idea if this had any collaboration, but it is a classic. Both artists stand on their own in having high standards.

I wrote to the creator of this animation video and she responded that the video is purely fan made and has nothing to do with Serj or Warcraft, neither they have any connection. She wrote: 

First of all with my gratitude, thanks for enjoying it, it means so much to me. Secondly Im a girl =P as in credit you can see I’m a member of Girl Gamers Club Vietnam. I simply just like the song and at the same time I also like Warcraft. I don’t make AMV to make the song fit with the scenes, I indeed make the scenes fit with the song. In brief, I liked the song and decided to make an AMV for it, then I started to look for games FMV that can describe my feeling about that song. Warcraft came to my mind, which Sky is Over is a great song about War and Loss (in my own feeling). I made it using Ulead Video Studio 11 and it was made for my friend’s bday (which was last December) and in case you are interested, in the video there is only 1 scene I took from Frozen Throne which I put it in purpose to see who can find it. Preparing for Video from Elect The Dead

Most of you are wayyyyyy hipper than I am. I am such a geek that I thought that Chop Suey song came out last summer when I arrived to LA and heard it on KROC, apparently the release was in the beginning of this decade….eye yi yi. In fact, I read that the song was taken off the radio on 9/11, because people were afraid that since the band was all Armenian, that the lyrics could have been misconstrued to be in support of the terrorists, and yet, everyone still says it was a set-up. We really are a confused country.

I discovered this after my break from work and I really loved it, but I didn’t know that this person was Serj and he was with SOAD (System of a Down) and I didn’t know that the music was about being politically active and work towards clean water, and so forth. In fact, I went on the board and was so excited about the album, I couldn’t figure out why nobody was discussing the deep and layered meanings to the songs, until a few weeks went by and I found out, OH, it was released 2 years ago……they are talking about the next project…..and boy, did I feel ….. old? No not old, just really really boring….out of touch, and must have spent way too many hours in my life working ….. with absolutely no balance – but then again, I was never with the trends, I was always by myself, in one way or another.

When I tripped the night fantastic onto the www.serjtankian.com website, I was stunned. It isn’t like those websites where you are catalogued and explained every last position in your detailed life. I had someone send me a website of the Tea Parties, I guess my website generates a “right wing radical conservative republican” feel to it. That has generated quite a bit of controversy and I don’t understand why we can not all discuss topics without being labeled, or argued on our points instead of on our appearances. I think reading the content is a good place to begin before engaging in canned opinions. I wrote back, um…..I hope you are not disappointed, but I’ve never seen this website, and I am not interested in it. I support the Tea Parties and people standing up for the laws of our country, but when I want to relax, I like websites that make me think, and that make me think there is something hidden behind every computer screen. Oh my gosh, I literally spent a couple weeks just on the front page (I mean each day I check on it, not fixated). First, it has to load, and he is looking at you with this graffiti behind him, and smoking…a spirit rebellious. I kept wanting to play my computers narrator because I was sure something was there, but I did, and I don’t think there was. Now the front page, holy cow….it is all in flash, and it took me weeks to see how if I clicked on different things I could see different parts of the picture that were not privies to at first glance. I literally spent two weeks on this. It took me that long just to click to go inside. I also found out to get to the private room, I needed a code. So I had to figure out where to buy the CD “Elect the Dead”. I couldn’t just buy it anywhere, because then I wouldn’t get the code. I found it of course on his site and I purchased it, but it took forever to get to me. Once I received it though, I was really happy with how good the packaging was. I felt like I received value for what I paid for the code and CD’s. Plus you are getting a glimps of some of the pictures on that site.

Vejamos por onde eu começo…

Albert Einstein
físico alemão radicado nos Estados Unidos mais conhecido por desenvolver a teoria da relatividade. Ganhou o Prémio Nobel da Física de 1921 pela correta explicação do efeito fotoeléctrico; no entanto, o prémio só foi anunciado em 1922. O seu trabalho teórico possibilitou o desenvolvimento da energia atômica, apesar de não prever tal possibilidade.Devido à formulação da teoria da relatividade Einstein tornou-se famoso mundialmente. Nos seus últimos anos, a sua fama excedeu a de qualquer outro cientista na cultura popular: “Einstein” tornou-se um sinónimo de génio. Foi por exemplo eleito pela revista Time como a “Pessoa do Século” e a sua face é uma das mais conhecidas em todo o mundo. Em 2005 celebrou-se o Ano Internacional da Física, em comemoração dos 100 anos do chamado “Annus Mirabilis” (ano miraculoso) de Einstein, em que este publicou quatro dos mais importantes artigos cientifícos da física do século XX. Em sua honra, foi atribuído o seu nome a uma unidade usada na fotoquímica, o einstein, bem como a um elemento químico, o einstênio.

Alan Moore
Famoso autor de clássicos da histórias em quadrinhos. Suas obras são mundialmente reconhecidas e vários de seus trabalhos se tornam obras-primas tanto nos quadrinhos quanto nos cinemas. Seus principais trabalhos com Hqs foram: V de Vingança, Marvelman (Miracleman), Monstro do Pântano, John Constantine (Hellblazer), e o mais impactante Watchmen.

A primeira adaptação cinematográfica de uma história sua foi o filme Do Inferno (2001), sucesso de público e crítica, embora “enxugue” muito do texto original. Na verdade o potencial intrincado da trama não foi realmente explorado para que fosse feito um filme mais palatável ao grande público, o que se tornaria frequente nas adaptações das obras de Moore. Depois, A Liga Extraordinária. Fracasso de público e crítica. Em seguida, Constantine. Fracasso de crítica, mas nem tanto de público. E muitos se ofenderam com o fato de, no filme, Constantine ser americano, viver em Los Angeles, ter cabelos castanhos e usar um casaco preto (A caracterização original é cabelo loiro, inglês, vive na Inglaterra e usa um sobretudo bege). E finalmente, V de Vingança. Essa foi um sucesso de crítica e público, mas Moore não gostou e tirou seu nome dos créditos, ainda tendo declarado que o roteiro era cheio de “buracos”. A próxima adaptação de uma obra de Moore será Watchmen, dirigido por Zack Snyder, com roteiro do diretor, junto com Alex Tse.
Alan detesta, declaradamente, a ideia de adaptarem suas obras para o cinema, e nunca se envolve nas produções. Por será hein?

Serj Tankian (System of a Down)
Sem dúvida uma das melhores vozes do rock mundial. Tankian tem uma licenciatura em Marketing, e quando estudava tinha média de 4 (ou seja, A, 9 ou 10 no Brasil e 18 a 20 em Portugal). Antes de criar a banda System of a Down, ele foi o CEO da companhia de softwares para computador chamada eGames. Trabalhou também como vendedor de sapatos.
Teve aulas de canto durante quatro anos e também teve aulas de guitarra quando era pequeno.
Serj fundou junto a Tom Morello (ex-Audioslave e Rage Against the Machine) a ONG Axis of Justice.
Em 1993, o vocalista Serj Tankian e o guitarrista Daron Malakian se conheceram em um ensaio e decidiram montar uma banda. Shavo Odadjian se dispôs a atuar como produtor da banda, e logo a dupla descobriu que Shavo tinha um talento promissor como baixista. Ao lado do baterista Andy Katchaclurian montaram, então, um grupo com o nome de Soil. Dois anos depois, Katchaclurian não parecia corresponder à sonoridade do grupo, e foi aí que John Dolmayan surgiu, assumindo a bateria. A banda trocou de nome para Victims of Down e por fim passou a se chamar System of a Down.
Tankian lançou recentemente seu primeiro álbum solo (Elect the Dead lançado em 23 de outubro via Serjical Strike/Reprise Records). Serj atuou também na produção do álbum além de tocar praticamente todos os instrumentos.
Empty Walls, o single de lançamento do trabalho solo do músico foi muito bem recebido pelos fãs da banda estreando direto no topo das paradas de sucesso.
Serj tem outro projeto com Arto Tunçboyacyian chamado Serart, além de ser poeta, tendo lançado um livro de poesias suas, intitulado Cool Gardens.

Como podem notar, pessoas inteligentes, conscientes e formadoras de opnião não exploram animais. Pense nisso!

Como diria Serj Tankian: “We are the cause of a world that’s gone wrong”

É amigos, Band o Canal do Esporte.

Esmu atgriezies Roka Pagrabā. Atgriežos ar Serja Tankiana pirmo soloalbumu.

Tankiana bijušā grupa System of the Down manī jau labu laiku neizraisa nekādas emocijas, toties viņa soloalbumu gan uzskatu par tiešām lielisku. Sākot jau ar ievadošajām “Empty Walls” un “”The Unthinking Majority” albums norāda savu virzienu – ātrs, agresīvs alternatīvais roks. Pieminēšanas vērta būtu gandrīz jebkura dziesma, bet pašas labākās ir jau divas nosauktās, “Lie Lie Lie” un vienkārši episkā “Sky Is Over”. Iepriekš Tankians, spēlējot SOAD, man likās vienkārši patraks metālists. Ar savu soloalbumu viņš sevi manās acīs ir pacēlis daudz augstāk. Turklāt esmu arī sapratis, ka viņa vokālās dotības ir tiešām teicamas. Tāpēc ceru, ka Sistēma vairs neapvienosies un Tankians izdos vēl daudz soloalbumu. Tā viņam sanāk daudz labāk.

Nav sliktu dziesmu, ir tikai lieliskas. Trešais desmitnieks Roka Pagrabā? Tieši tā.

Κατά τη ταπεινή μου γνώμη, το καλύτερό τους άλμπουμ και εξάλλου με αυτό έγιναν γνωστοί. Πέρα από τις δυναμικές μελωδίες, χαρακτηριστικό των System of a down αποτελούν οι γεμάτοι νόημα στίχοι τους που ειδικά σε αυτό το άλμπουμ είναι πραγματικά το κάτι άλλο, αφού μιλούν για θέματα κοινωνικού περιεχομένου όπως η επίδραση της τεχνολογίας στη καθημερινή ζωή μας. Φυσικά όλα αυτά με την μοναδική φωνή του Serj Tankian με τις τρομερές ερμηνευτικές δυνατότητες και καταφέρνει ακόμη και στο κατώτερο τραγούδι να μας συγκινεί. Από αυτό το άλμπουμ προέρχεται και το σχεδόν κλασσικό πλέον “Chop-suey!”, αλλά ξεχωρίζουν και τα “Toxicity”, “Forest” και “ATWA”.

Whether it’s a streaming video or legitimate download I make a considerable effort when searching for reincarnations of my favorite melodies. Originally I began searching for obstinately retro artists who focus on the remixing of outdated console games. OC ReMix, which stands for ”Over Clocked Remix’, define themselves as an ‘unofficial game music arrangement company’.  The produce that appeals to me most are based on the ‘Super Mario Bros’ and ‘Street Fighter’ video game series. As many warm fuzzy feelings that the tunes invoke they also pay homage to simpler time of ambition and innocence. Furthermore that fact that online communities and long-term fanatics (yep, I mean those damn cosplay kids) are still musing over the melodies of a platformer released in 1983 on an 8-bit video game console truly amplifies my original sentiments regarding the integrity and grossly involving  nature games.

Colossal hammers, flaming balls of fire and a 20 foot intelligent lizard on a bridge above a pit of lava. Mario took a few second to assess his predicament and thought “Feck this; I’m going home. ”

8-bit music is electronic in style and sounds like its composite parts are the ‘bleeps’ of an aged computer or outmoded domestic synthesizer. ‘We Are the Strange‘, an independent animated film by ‘M dot Strange’ takes this one step further with his fusion of ’strange’, ‘8-bit’ and ‘anime’ which is commonly referred to as ‘Str8nime’. The music found in the trailer for the said film is chiptune artist (YERZMYEY/AY-RIDERS) rendition of the t.a.T.u. ‘30 Minutes’ song.  Chip tune artists synthesize their tunes in real-time using a computer or console sound chip rather than using sample-based synthesis. The song itself is resultantly playful but macabre especially due to the vague eerie echoing of children playing in the background.

It suddenly occurs to Blue that her dangerous adventure against bizarre and sadistic 8-bit/stop motion/cgi monsters could all be the product of a bad mushroom trip.

After searching for my favorite Tetris remixes which now boast fusions of hardcore techno and rap artists I decided to switch genres and to unearth remixes of the more recognizable film soundtracks. In my vain attempt to evolve beyond the 8-bit harmonics I inadvertently stumbled across who by now was a YouTube celebrity: Ronald Jenkees (not to be confused with the legendary Leroy Jenkins). The last artist to enthuse and resonate my melodic soul was Muse with their release of ‘Origin of Symmetry’ and subsequent albums thereafter. Serj Tankian came close to this feat though I found myself wanting to enjoy his music more than I actually did.

Ronald Jenkees, a highly unassuming character who usually introduces his own performances, at first impressions is commonly perceived to be mentally slow, socially inept and of some varying degree of mental disability. Others have more kindly suggested that the lad suffers from ‘Savant Syndrome‘ which would suggest that despite overall developmental issues he has brilliance and propensity for musical composition. Such preconceived and binary notions annoy me to no end. Jenkees exhibits a raw and unfettered talent for both Hip Hop, Techno and Rock composites. His social awkwardness and unorthodox appearance (think of the nerds from the classic Saved by the Bell) should not prompt anyone to believe that he is any less brilliant than he actually is.

This is one book you won't want to judge by its cover!
