What is SEO? SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” The term may sound like optimizing an actu

What is SEO?
SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” The term may sound like optimizing an actual search engine such as Google, however this professional service focuses on tweaking a website to do well – to appear among the top listings on search engine results pages (SERPs). SERPs are web pages returned by search engines like Google or Yahoo! after a user performs a search. These pages contain links to web sites and documents that the search engine deems relevant to the word or phrase. These words or phrases are also known as “keywords.”

SERP for Pizza

Using complex and proprietary algorithms, search engines consider hundreds of factors when gauzing the relevance of a certain site or web-page. Search engines are constantly changing their proprietary algorithms – sometimes significantly – in an attempt to list only the most relevant results.
Major search engines vary their results by geographic region and language. For example, Google’s German page will place more emphasis on German websites. Search engines use various pieces of information; among these is language, the physical location of a website’s server, etc. Thus, the results from Google.de may differ from the results of Google.com.

SEO is “keyword centric.” A major emphasis for professionals is to figure out what words or phrases a website’s target audience is likely to use when searching for a site’s content. Using this information, they strive to have the website appear within the first page of search results. SEO is strongly related to search engine marketing (SEM), which focuses on delivering advertisements that are relevant to an executed search. It is critical to the success of any SEO or website marketing campaign to have specific keywords in mind from the onset of the project. See Figure 1 to see where text ads appear on search results pages.
A website’s search engine “rank” refers to its position in the search engine’s results. There are factors that influence the rank of a website on SERPs that website administrators can control; others they cannot. Controllable factors include page title tags, page content, the website’s architecture, and the ease at which a web “spider” can examine a site. A web spider is a website discovery program deployed by search engines that scans the Internet looking for new pages and content changes on pages it has already discovered. There is little control over what competing websites can do to increase their search engine ranking; these actions may result in the down-ranking of other sites.

Furthermore, website administrators sometimes can influence which other websites will link to their own site and how they will do so. In this document we’ll focus on what website administrators can control to increase their website’s ranking in search engines. There are many other tactics that a website administrator has little control over (like how to get other sites – and which ones are most valuable – to link to his or her site) that are also important which are not discussed in this document.

When your search engine rankings fluctuate, or even if your site drops from the rankings, don’t panic. Understand that these things happen in this industry, and they WILL happen to you.

They happen to all of us.

What you DON’T want to do is make any changes to your Web pages because of fluctuations in the rankings or because your site drops out of the rankings. Step back and wait to see what happens.

Watch the industry. Read the news.

In all likelihood, your pages will reappear right back where they should be (or close to those rankings), if you haven’t done anything wrong (such as using spam). Fluctuations in rankings are normal.

Remember that this year, rankings in the traditional sense will be far less important because of the “personalization of search.”

Far too many people PANIC in the short term, when they would be wiser to just take it easy and not start making changes so quickly. Just a word to the wise!

How to optimize for google Spela-kasino.se gives you a hints on how to optimize for google. In today

How to optimize for google

Spela-kasino.se gives you a hints on how to optimize for google.

In today’s online world search engine rankings can make your business succeed, and while rankings in Yahoo and MSN are very valuable, their combined market value is still less than that of Google. This makes achieving top rankings in Google that much more important.

THE KEYWORDS
Make sure that your targets are achievable. If you select the wrong keywords it can make your entire optimization experience essentially a waste. Choose keywords that are achieveble but yet still offer a reasonable search frequency for your industry. Your phrase selection should also be targeted to bring qualified traffic to your site. Using the gambling industry as an example, targeting the word “casino” would make very little sense but by narrowing it down to “casino gambling bonus” you now have less competition, and a more qualified audience. Keep your targets in perspective and go after the obtainable rankings.

OPTIMIZE YOUR WEBSITE
There are many on-site factors that play a role in your search engine rankings. Here are a number of those factors and what you can do to increase your chances of success.

Title Tag
The title tag plays one of the most important roles in search results at Google, and is almost always the heading Google chooses for each of its listings. Placement of your target phrase is best used near the start of the tag and repeated again in the middle or near the end. Three uses of your target phrase may be helpful in some instances, as long as it is not too overwhelming. For best results each page on your site should have a totally unique title tag. It is also important to remember that because Google will use this title as the main heading for your listing, you will want to keep it attractive to potential searchers. Try to also add a “call to” action, or other wording to help make your listing appear attractive to searchers.
If you do only one thing to your website, make sure that all your title tags are relevant, unique, and contain your target phrase for each page.

Meta Description Tag
The Meta Description tag is still occasionally used by Google as the description which appears in the search results themselves. While this used to be a more common practice Google tends to use it most often on sites with very limited content, or those which are flash based. The Meta Description tag still has an impact on search rankings. Your best bet when using this tag is to keep it short and close to your target phrase near the start and never repeated more than 3 times. Like the title tag, each page on you site should have its own unique description tag.

Meta Keyword Tag
When it comes to Google this tag is useless, and won’t influence your rankings. There is some speculation as to whether a spammy keyword tag can however, have a negative effect on Google rankings. As a result, if you do utilize a keyword Meta tag for the smaller engines, it is best to keep it clean.

Keyword Density
Keyword density plays a role in overall rankings; however, it is not as cut and dry as it once was. Once there was a magic number that when used could almost guarantee top rankings. This is no longer the case. Today the ideal density varies from industry to industry, phrase to phrase. To find out what density you should aim for, take the top 10 or 20 search results and see what percentage those sites are using. In most cases you will find that the majority of these sites have a very similar density to one another, and this average density is a good estimation of what you should aim for.

Synonyms
Be sure to include various synonyms for your target phrases within your body text on your site. Google will use these synonyms to tie in the overall relevance of the page for your main target phrases, which in turn can improve your odds. To find possible synonyms you can use a dictionary, but the best way is to search Google itself and see exactly what they consider to be similar. Simply search in Google for your target phrase preceeded with a tilde, such as “casinos”. Next scan through the search results for any text Google has bolded. These are all words that Google considers to be related. Using the “casinos” example Google brings up phrases such as ‘gambling’, ‘casino’, ‘las vegas’, as well as various casino names such as ‘The Ceasars’.

Keywords in Domain
There is still some speculation if having a target phrase as part of your top level domain (TLD) is of use to search rankings. From my experience, yes, there is value here, although, nothing like it was several years ago. If you are starting off in the online world and are contemplating which domain to go for, consider one that uses your target phrase, assuming that it is both relevant to your business name, and uses no more than a single hyphen. While multiple hyphens in a domain can be successful, they are very common with highly spammy websites, so it is best to not take that route if possible. While having a keyword located within your domain can offer some ranking juice, I would not suggest heading out and doing a domain swap. In most cases you would be better off working on your existing site than starting from scratch with a new domain.

Keywords in page specific URL
Using keywords for specific page URL’s can also help add a little bit of value to your site, providing you use them responsibly. Consider using a keyword as a directory name and as part of a file name where it naturally makes sense to do so.

Heading Tags Placement
of target phrases within heading tags helps to establish the importance of those given phrases. That said do not over do it, or abuse it. Only place target phrases within a heading tag if it makes sense to do so, and don’t flood a page with numerous tags. Heading tags are not as critical as they once were, but still a good contribution to a well optimized page.

Link Anchor text
This is the actual text you click on as part of a link. When full or partial target phrases are used within your text links they help pass on some value to the linked page for those phrases. This is also true when considering surrounding text. When the content around the link is also relevant, the link holds slightly more value. While a link that simply states “click here” or “www.domainname.com” does have its place, they provide considerably less value than a link that would use “casino gambling” as its anchor.

Image Alt Text
While image alt text still plays a minor role, its biggest part is within the use of image based navigation. If you have an image linked to another page, the alt text will be attributed much the same way as standard link anchor text is. Image Alt text should always be short and to the point and should accurately describe either the image itself, or the page the image is linking to. Do not use alt tags as a place to stuff keywords.

Inline Links
These are links that are found mid sentence or mid paragraph as opposed to a simple listing of links as found in a menu or possibly on a sitemap. Links found mid paragraph tend to pass on a little more value from the surrounding text and can offer more relevance to the linked page.

URL Structure
Avoid long elaborate URL’s with extraneous characters. While Google has reached a point where they can index massive URL strings, it is best to avoid them if at all possible. For dynamic sites consider utilizing mod rewrites to significantly clean up the URL to not only make it more search engine friendly, but more user friendly as well.

LINK BUILDING
Links are very important in today’s Google rankings, but just how many links you need will depend on both the competitiveness of your target phrases, and the quality of the incoming links themselves. Essentially the number one rule of links is to keep it relevant! Topical relevance is very important in order for inbound links to give your site the most value. If the page that links to you is relevant that is good, if the entire site linking to you is relevant, that is better. First to get an idea of how many links you may need, take a look at the top 10 ranking sites in Google and record how many links Yahoo is noting for each site. (This is because Google does not display anywhere near all the links they have noted). The average of this count is often a good indication of how many links your site may need. There are many different ways to get links to your site including the age old reciprocal link trade, directory links, article based links, and links from press releases.

Reciprocal Links
Reciprocal linking has seen its value drop considerably over the past few years, however, if the site you are trading with is relevant you can still receive value from these links.

Paid Links
Google frowns on paid links, however that is not to say that they don’t work. Often you can find highly reputable and relevant websites which are offering paid advertising spots. If these links are coded to link directly to your website without passing through any tracking redirects, you will in many cases see value in the form of both direct traffic and increased link densities and rankings.

Articles
Writing and distributing industry specific articles is a great way to help increase both your link counts and site traffic. Consider writing articles on a regular basis and submitting them to some of the more popular services such as EzineArticles. Be sure to include a link to your site from somewhere within the article, or at the very lest within your bio. Try to use a target phrase as part of the anchor text for additional value.

Press Releases
If something of importance has happened to your company such as a new product launch, or other notable achievement – essentially anything news worthy, put out a press release.

Forum Posts
Forum posts can help to marginally increase your link counts; however, with this one you must be careful. Only add a link to your site in your signature if both the forum allows it, and you are a respected member of the forum. If you are a solid contributor and your posts have depth and meaning, and the forum is highly relevant to your site, then having a link in your signature may give your site some juice. Posting wildly to random forms will in most cases get yourself banned, and will be both a waste of time and potentially make you and your site look bad.

Guest Books
In nearly all cases, do not post your link to guest books. If you happen to stumble upon a guestbook that is highly relevant to your site, the other comments are relevant to your site, and you have something useful to say, then perhaps consider it, but typically focusing on links from guest books is considered SPAM and is best avoided all together.

Blog Comments
Having a link from your blog comments is not necessarily a bad thing. If you find a relevant blog post of use, and have something relevant and constructive to say, don’t be afraid to enter your link into the “URL” field of the form, but don’t try stuffing links into the comment itself.

Link Farms & Bad Neighborhoods
These are sites that allow you to simply post your link no strings attached. They are mostly long scrolling pages with countless links. Stay away from them. If you see one, run in the other direction. These links are bad, will not help with your rankings, and in some cases can actually damage your rankings. Stay away from sites that cross link with obvious spammers. These networks of SPAM sites are not ones you would want your site associated with, and if you achieve links from enough of these sites it can adversely impact your rankings. Even more important, NEVER link to any of these sites – as that will certainly tie in your connection to them and give Google reason to discount your rankings.

DMOZ, Yahoo and Other Directories
Directory based links can be of significant help, especially if they are from highly reputable directories, the two biggest being DMOZ.org and the Yahoo Directory. Getting a site into DMOZ is like Gold. Google loves links from DMOZ and your site will reap the benefits. The big catch however is actually getting your site into the directory in the first place. Find the perfect category for your site and check to see if it has an editor. If you see a link “Volunteer to edit this category” try and find another relevant location. Pages without active editors take much longer to get listed into. Once you find the perfect directory submit your site every 4-6 months until listed. If you are lucky you will get in eventually. Yahoo Directory is seen as an authority in the eyes of Google, and getting your site in will help your link reputation. This link does come at a price of $299 per year, but will play a role in helping your website achieve top rankings. There are a number of other valuable directories out there that can help you with your search rankings. Before submitting to any directory the key is a combination of relevance and authority. If the directory is relevant and active it may be worth considering. Also try looking at the other participants in the directory to see if the directory has quality controls; if not, it is likely the site has very little credibility at which point the link will not be worth your while.

GOOGLE WEBMASTER TOOLS
Google Webmaster Tools can be very useful for your optimization efforts. It may not directly help you obtain higher rankings, but can help you trouble shoot if you are experiencing problems. It will also allow you to remove URL’s that you don’t want indexed and set various preferences such as your domain, crawl rate, and geographic target.

XML Sitemaps
This is the most common reason people use Google Webmaster Tools – the submission of their XML sitemap. While you can use your robots.txt to have Google find your XML sitemap, by submitting it directly to Google you can check up on the spidering status.

Error checking
Webmaster Tools is also quite useful for checking on various error URL’s that Google may know about. Under the Diagnostics > Web Crawl you can view any errors that Google has to report on your site. By cleaning up any errors you can help increase your chances of rankings.

Links
From inside Google Webmaster Tools you can get a much clearer look at what sites Google is noting as having links to you, and give you a better indication of the need, if any, to increase your link counts.

WWW Preference
Be sure to select your domain preference under Tools > Set Preferred Domain. In nearly all cases you will want to select the version including the “www”

COMPLETING OPTIMIZATION: OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Don’t forget to keep in mind the following tips when optimizing your site or your site could experience significant problems.

Redirects
If you need to use redirects on your site it is very important to use the correct one. If a page is moving to a new location, or being removed all together, it is very important to have this page redirected to either the new location or the next closest page using a Permanent 301 Redirect. While rare, if a page is being moved to a new location for a short term, with the intent of it returning to the original location, then and only then, you will want to use a Temporary 302 redirect.

Non WWW Redirects
To help eliminate page rank split, and provide your site with a little extra value, implement a non-www redirect. What this redirect will do is change the URL to include the “www” whenever a URL is accessed that does not include it. This can help to consolidate links to the correct page and give your site some additional strength.

HTTP Headers
Check your page headers! If you have implemented any form of redirect on your site including mod rewrites, check your HTTP headers. You may be surprised at what you find. Some forms of redirects may use a 302 code where you really want a 301. By checking your headers you can ensure all is well, and troubleshoot problems.

Home Page URL
Never have more than one URL for your home page. If your home page is available and displays on more than one URL, then utilize 301 redirects on all but the main URL you want to focus on – in most cases “http://www.spela-kasino.se/”. All your links pointing to the home page should direct to the exact same URL otherwise you will split the value of your home page into multiple duplicate URL’s. Google sees “http://www.spela-kasino.se” and “http://www.abcname.se/index.shtml” as different pages, but displaying the same content. This splits the overall value of your home page, and can decrease the chances of rankings. By keeping it consistent with a single URL, you remove this split and retain more of the strength. In theory having your home page split like this could bring with it duplicate content penalties, however, I have yet to see this actually happen – that said, it is best to avoid the risk all together.

XML Sitemap
XML Sitemaps are great for ensuring that Google and the other engines are able to spider your entire site. While an XML sitemap will not directly impact your search rankings it can help as Google is more likely to see any SEO based changes more quickly, which in turn can have an impact.

Robots.txt
This is the first file all search engines look for every time they visit your site. While placing a blank robots.txt file in your root folder will not help with search rankings, it will help reduce 404 errors appearing in your log files. It is also highly recommended that if your site utilizes an XML sitemap, to include a call to this sitemap within the Robots.txt file. Simply add the following line to ensure that the major engines (including Google) can find your sitemap.

Fresh Content / Regular Updates
Update your content. In highly competitive markets, sites with old static content can often slip away. Keep your content fresh and updated to keep bringing Google back to your site. If they find new pages and updated pages with every visit, they will come back more often.

WHAT NOT TO DO
I want to stress that this section is about things you should NOT do. These issues could be damaging to your rankings. If your site is implementing any of these, it may be best to remove it.

Hidden Text
This includes any text that you can simply not see when viewing the page. It may be text hidden in invisible div layers, text located below the fold with vertical scrolling disabled or even text on the same colored back ground (white text on a white background for instance). Whatever the case, hidden text can get your site into hot water and it is not recommended.

Excessive Keywords
Don’t go over board in placing target phrases within your body text. Stuffing keywords everywhere possible just because you can, is not only unlikely to help you achieve rankings, it could very well have the opposite effect.

Duplicate content
Large amounts of duplicated content or pages, as well as stealing or scraping content from other sites is one good way to get your site banned.

Doorway pages
Creating multiple websites or pages with nearly identical, yet slightly different content for the purposes of trying to grab some Google rankings is a good way to get your site into trouble. If you have created pages of this nature for PPC campaigns, make sure that they are blocked from the search engines as to not get you into any hot water.

Cloaking
Simple – Don’t Cloak. In a nutshell cloaking is when you display different information to the search engines than you do to your human visitors. Google frowns on this, and if they catch you, watch out!

All Flash
Websites that are entirely flash based will not get you into trouble. The reason I have included it here however, is that they won’t do you many favors either. Sites that are all Flash, have little to no content for Google to digest and thus, drastically reduce your chance of rankings. If you must keep your “All Flash” site, it is recommended that you also create a secondary HTML version for the search engines and for those visitors who simply prefer it.

Frames
Frames are also one of those things that won’t get you into trouble, but do significantly reduce your chances of rankings. If you want any chance of ranking in Google using a Frames site, be sure to copy your relevant content from each page into your ‘noframes’ tag. While this is far from ideal it may help you salvage some listings. When it comes to including content through the use of an iFrame, remember, Google can not see any of this content located within the frame. It will be of no use to your rankings. If you rely on this content to help your listings, find another method such as a server side include.

If you follow these steps, your chances to rank higher increases a lot, I cannot promise you a top 5 rank but a good chance to be there among the top.

According to Google’s man in the trenches, Matt Cutts, Google is going to take it easy on all of us webmasters by deciding to not deploy Google’s new Caffeine architecture until after the holidays. In the meantime, Caffeine will be deployed at one data center and a small percentage of Google users will be “using” Caffeine. In response to a comment about the exact time in relation to the “holidays”, Matt said, “I don’t think you’ll see Caffeine on multiple data centers before January.”

In an earlier post I mentioned that Google SERP updates were taking place and that many web sites have noticed position changes. Matt said that Google did not want to add more stress onto webmasters who could already be feeling the heat from the current changes. Google is usually silent when an Index update hits and this catches many people off-guard. For people like myself, I know to expect Google index updates around this time of the year.

Also, it should be noted that when Caffeine is fully deployed most users will not notice any changes. For the most part, SERPs should be mostly unaffected but don’t quote me on this! Vigilance should be practiced anyways just in case. Good luck to all.

Over the past week or so changes to Google’s index have taken place. Word around the proverbia

Over the past week or so changes to Google’s index have taken place. Word around the proverbial campfire is that search algorithm changes have been made. A friend, who works for a local company, messaged me this morning telling me that they had a set of pages drop from the index.

More than ever, Google is rummaging through web pages, searching for relevant content. The problem could be that the content inside the <h1> tag was useless because it did not tell Google what was contained on that page. So, their immediate fix was to change what was inside their <h1> tags.

The tag contained only one word and it was repeated on many different pages. This could be problem number one. Because of this, they did not have any keywords inside the tag so they added some keywords there along with text describing what is on the page. They also added the META description tag to add some descriptive text to the description of the page in the SERPs. This might also help them in the long run because Google also checks for keywords within the META description tag.

Hopefully this helps in their problem!

We also took a look at one of their competitor’s sites. They had hidden text within some of their <h1> tags. Google looks down on this. If you focus on SEO, remember to not hide text with keywords in it. Google considers this a deceptive practice and it will remove your pages from it’s index if it finds out that you are doing this.

SEO is the abbreviation of the phrase Search Engine Optimization. It is a continuous process of optimizing a website so that it can rank better in SERP (search engine result page). SEO generally ensures that a website is accessible to the search engine and also improves the chances that the site will be found by the search engine. Being ranked in a good position in SERP (generally in first 10 or 20) helps a site to draw a huge amount of traffic to that site which ultimately boosts the sites business.

SEO is divided into two parts
1) Organic SEO,
2) Inorganic SEO

Organic SEO is a process which enables a site to rank higher on SERP naturally. It is done through ON-PAGE & OFF-PAGE optimization factors.

In-organic SEO is basically a process used by spammers to rank a website high on SERP.

Basic SEO Techniques:

1.	Page Title or Title tags – It can be seen in the blue bar at the very top of the browser window. It is the title of a web page that has been opened by the browser and hold much importance in ranking. Search engine spiders give page title much importance as it describes each page of a website in short and in SERP they also display this title tag.

2.	Keywords and description meta-tags - Meta description tag is used by some search engines in displaying the result page, and by other search engines to determine the relevance of your page. Thus, it is also a very important SEO technique.

3.	Body-text – After a good title, this is the most important factor that effect ranking. Body text should be written keeping in mind the users’ necessity first and then search engines. It must be in a simple and easy-to-understand language.

4.	Regular content – In order to draw a good amount of visitors and also search engines to a site, it’s very important that the site updates its database or content in regular intervals. Updating the content with unnecessary data are of no use as search engines have powerful algos to detect them as a keyword spamming.

5.	Link exchange – It is one of the most important factor in SEO as spiders rely a lot on link popularity in determining the importance of a site. Exchanging links with relevant and quality websites only help a site to rank on SERP.

http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&rlz=1R2GGLL_de&q=pagerank+und+seo&btnG=Suche&meta=lr%3D&aq=f&oq=

What’s SERP A search site results page, or SERP, is the listing of net pages returned by a sea

What’s SERP A search site results page, or SERP, is the listing of net pages returned by a search site replying to a keyword question. A SERP may refer to a single page of links returned, traditionally 10 web sites. Why High Position in SERPs if you’ve an internet site, actually there’s a reason for you to have broadcast it. Lots more reasons can be listed but we shall leave it at that. Consider the following facts:- a ) 85% of all web sites are found thru the search engines b ) 99% of users search only the top twenty engines c ) 91% of all users VISIT ONLY the first PAGE of search ends in view of the above three facts, it’s required that your web site appears high up in serps to realize your target the simplest way to attain High Position in SERPs to reach high position in search site Results you have to:- a ) make sure that the Internet site page is optimized as per norms set by a search site. This contributes around 30 percent to your internet site page being ranked high.
B ) make sure that you have enough links to your website page. This is a major of the two factors contributing approximately 70 p.c.

To achieving high position in serps. Don’t target at getting links at too swiftly a rate. Ideally, it should be 10-15 per week. Too quickly a rate is perceived as spam by search engines. Don’t target at linking to web sites that have only high Pagerank. This is also regarded as synthetic.

Check a domain for its content before swapping links with it. Though, the job of link exchange involves tons of time and effort by way of one ) on the hunt for link exchange net sites, 2 ) visiting them to find if they’re acceptable, three ) emailing them with link exchange request or submitting link exchange request by filling up their form, four ) publishing their link at your website, five ) visiting the page where they have printed your internet site link to figure out the link exists and 6 ) to often visit their links page to approve the link to your internet site is still. This is needed as lots of sites remove your link after a bit of time. The membership is free for one website.

You have to just once enter your internet site details. After that you’ll steadily get one way links frequently at a set pace. Visit the site to see where some members links page rank.

Google Page Rank (PR) and Search Engine Ranking Position (SERP) are always integrated TOO MUCH to ea

Google Page Rank (PR) and Search Engine Ranking Position (SERP) are always integrated TOO MUCH to each other by many newbies. Lots of newbies think that having high PR will put them into good SERP (especially in Google); also, they think that having good SERP means having high PR. In reality, Google Page Rank and (Google) search engine ranking position are two different things and calculated in different ways. Now, let us see the difference between Google Page Rank and Search Engine Ranking Position.

Google Page Rank or PR (named after Larry Page) show the importance of a webpage to World Wide Web. According to Google’s description about Google Page Rank:

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”.

Based from this description of Google Page Rank, we can say that the result of Page Rank of a particular webpage is based on the number of webpages linking to it. For example, each link gain by SEO Explorer Blog will count like a “one vote” on how important SEO Explorer Blog is to World Wide Web. Also, the Page Rank of the webpage that casted the “vote” is also a factor; so, linking to high Page rank webpage can give you high Page rank, too. It is not necessary for a page to have many inbound links to rank well. A single link from a high ranking page is sufficient. You can check the Page Rank of a website using different Page Rank Checker Tools like the following:

Google PageRank Checker- a live Page Rank checker online; also provide PR badge to show the Page Rank of your website.

Valid Rank – Another live Page Rank checker online.

Google Toolbar – provides PR bar at your FireFox browser, showing the PR of the website you currently viewing.

Search Status - provide Page Rank of currently viewing website in text or bar format; show also Alexa Rank.

On the other hand, Search Engine Ranking Position (SERP) is the actual search result position of a website in a search engine based from the given search query. The higher placement in search engine search query result means higher SERP rank. SERP of a website for a particular keyword varies since each search engine (Google, Yahoo!, Bing) has different algorithm. In Google, Page Rank is one of more than 200 search engine ranking factors. Keyword use anywhere in the title tag, keyword use in the root domain name, substantive / unique content on the page, and recency /freshness of page creation are the top ranking factors in Google.

It’s much accurate to check SERP manually; but to help you check your SERP faster, here are some tools to check your SERP: (NOTE: the following tools may NOT PROVIDE ACCURATE RESULT; don’t rely to this completely.)

Google SERP Checker – a Google SERP checker that check website ranking position up to 1000th position or 100th page.

SERP Rush – an SERP checker for Google, Yahoo, and Bing; check website position up to 250th position or 25th page.

SEOBook Rank Checker – a FireFox Adds-On that check website SERP in Google, Yahoo, and Bing in multiple keywords.

Page Rank and Search Engine Ranking Position are both important. With high Page Rank, you will gain “authority” in World wide Web; on the other hand, with good search engine ranking position, you will received more “organic” traffics from search engines; much easier for you to reach your targeted audiences. I’m suggesting that you focus more on having good SERP; for me, because PR can be gain naturally.

Recently on our Facebook Page we asked what blog topics our fans would like us to cover. One suggestion came from Phoebe Woods Orsini, a real estate agent. Her question was “Where are buyers of homes looking for their real estate agents the most?”

In order to find out, we created a quick poll using Poll Daddy. What we found was that most people found their real estate agent based on the recommendation from a friend, family member or co-worker.

See our poll here: http://poll.fm/19jk8

Because the real estate industry requires that a gift or incentive given to one client must be made available to all, an incentive based referral program is out of the question in terms of agents marketing themselves.

However, the basic form of a referral program is satisfied clients/customers telling others of their great experience with a product or service, and in this case with a particular real estate agent. So ensuring that each client has the best overall home-buying/selling experience possible is a great way to ensure that your clients will sing your praises to their friends, family and co-workers.

After all, all marketing (especially Word of Mouth Marketing) begins with a great product/service!

Check out: Word of Mouth Marketing Association

Second on our poll was “Online Search.” If you are an agent, Google your name, your company, the keywords you think people are using to search online. Do you come up? One way to increase the likelihood that you appear at the top of a SERP (search engine results page) is to optimize your site (SEO- search engine optimization) and use Social Media.

Want to know how to do this? Call, email or tweet us! We’ll be glad to discuss with you Word of Mouth Marketing, Search Engine Optimization and Social Media, as well as how a cohesive marketing approach using all three can help you gain more clients!

The TITLE tag is one of the most important part of any webpage. That is what tells your browser to put up at the top of the screen between the BluE and ‘- Internet Explorer’ or the Firefox logo and ‘-Mozilla Firefox’ or after the compass in Apple Safari . It is even in a distinct color from the rest of the browser. This is what gets listed in the tabs of your browser to help your visitor get back to your site while switching between the others sites competing for your attention. The TITLE tag is also a trusted part of what Google determines your webpage is about.

But most importantly, this is the underlined, Bold and Blue text that shows up in Google’s’ results page (SERP) – This is where you get to 1st sell your potiential visitor that they need to click on the link and come visit YOU! This text is your best chance to get a person to decide what that your site will meet their desires better then the 9 or 99 other pages listed next to it. This is where if you fail, it is pretty clear it is your fault for not meeting the needs of your potiental visitor.

So how to get your potential visitor to choose you?

Don’t waste it. Don’t use ‘generic’ titles that are written from the perspective of the website – Home, About, Contact. There are 4.2, 4.1, 2.6 Billion pages you are competing against respectively compared to 436 Million for Fire, or 126 Million for Pizza (95% easier to rank at the top of).

Don’t be too specific. If people are searching for your business name – ‘Smith’s Itailan Bar and Grill’, then use that. But usually they are not, they are searching for a restaurant. You potential customer probably does not know he is looking for you specifically, but what solution as a good or service that you provide. List that good or service from the customers perspective. If they know your restaurant’s name, they are a different kind of prospect. They deserve a separate page with ‘their’ own Title. That may well be the ‘Contact page’.

Don’t be too general, there are 327 Million restaurants sites listed on Google. Of course they are all over the world, and all types of quality and cost. Some of the sites are not even about specific restaurants, but related to restaurants – including goods and services for restaurants. If your customers are looking for you, they won’t be looking for your vendors selling your restaurant cleaning supplies. Typically this is where you want to get geographical – Naperville Restaurant limits the selection to 1.7 million pages. Again, another reduction by 95% in competition. But you may need to limit yourself down some more – Naperville Pizza Restaurant – cuts the pages down to 63,000 – again cutting your competition by another 95%. Balancing 2 and 3 can be a challenge – the key is to look at how your visitor will look for you. The perspective is from your visitor’s search box, not from your business or web design

Sell your site. This is where the advertising industry earned their living for decades. How to write quick headlines that attracted you to read their ad further, in a short compelling fashion. If you had the following titles which would you click on:

Joe’s Bar And Grill, Downers Grove

Downers Grove’s restaurant for dining-Joe’s Bar and Grill

Downers Grove’s best restaurant for casual dining-Joe’s Bar and Grill with nightly chicken dinner specials ranked by Zagat’s review

The third one tells a story like any good headline should, while at the same time giving the search engine the information it needs to place it well for your visitors search terms on Google.

Now that you are on the right track on how to craft a TITLE tag, perform some searches from a visitors perspective for your site. Look at the different Titles and see what catches your eye as well as what communicates that the page is what you are looking for. Search similar topics on Google and Bing to see how effective Title tags are constructed. Take some time to learn what is most effective at drawing you to click on a link. This will help you learn how others are looking at your Title tag.

When you are crafting your Title tag, take some time and even consider soliciting some feedback as to what best attracts someone to your site.

Once you have crafted your Title tag to meet these criteria, consider testing – try different titles every 2-4 weeks and see what creates the most traffic based on your Google Analytics (free) or whatever tool you use to track your sites traffic.

How did you craft your Title tags and what did you learn along the way?
