Un misto di festa-evento-carnevale-bolgia che merita di essere vissuto almeno una volta nella vita: tutta la città invasa, per una notte, da un mondo di hawaiani in gonnellino e collana di fiori, con i carri più stravaganti e le trovate più eccentriche.

Quest’anno, grazie all’aiuto del Comune di Sestri Levante e dei gestori dei locali del centro e della passeggiata a mare, la festa sarà ancora più ricca: un concerto, 4 djset sparsi per la città, dalla Baia del Silenzio all’Ottagono in Baia delle Favole, sfilate ed elezioni di Miss e Mister Hawai.

Mojotic curerà il grande djset che chiuderà la festa, nella Spiaggia dei Balin, con musica sparata fino alle 3 e 30. Un soundsystem che spazierà dal reggae al rock, dai 60’s ai 90’s, dall’indie all’elettronica.

la festa hawaiana di Sestri Levante «è andata bene». Lo dicono, il giorno dopo, gli organizzatori e l’amministrazione comunale che possono comunque tirare un sospiro di sollievo: i timori di una folla allo sbando sono stati sconfessati. La festa è stata un successo, sia per la partecipazione (10 mila persone, stima l’associazione Mojotic) sia per i problemi di ordine pubblico, comunque contenuti. «Le scelte su come impostare la festa si sono rivelate giuste – afferma il sindaco Andrea Lavarello – Musica e balli in spiaggia hanno incentivato il divertimento “sano”.

“Ha una bella castagna”, dicono di lui. Il lui in questione è Stefano Cagliani, attaccante del 1988 portato a Savona da Geremia Armienti, che lo conosce bene, in quanto l’anno scorso il ragazzo era nel Pontedecimo, in Eccellenza. Una stagione, quella vissuta dalla squadra, in chiaroscuro: quasi subito fuori dalla zona che conta, cioé in sostanza i primi due posti, il Pontedecimo s’è ripreso soprattutto nel finale, facendo un buon numero di risultati utili consecutivi, che tuttavia sono serviti a poco.

Armienti, poi, s’è trovato a sostenere la cordata che ha acquistato il Savona calcio e si sa come siano andate le cose. Stefano, dunque, è un suo pupillo, presentato dallo stesso con parole d’elogio.

Cagliani non è al suo esordio in serie D, peraltro: ci è già stato nella stagione 2006-2007, alle dipendenze di Salvatore Mango, al Sestri Levante. Mango lo conosceva dalla stagione precedente, quando allenava le giovanili della Sampdoria, dove Cagliani stava crescendo. Quell’anno, si mise in luce tanto da essere convocato per le selezioni per la rappresentativa di D al torneo di Viareggio, assieme al compagno di squadra Manuel Ustolin, a tre biancoblù (Luca Giribaldi, Luca Vanoli e Fabio Concas) e a due rossoblù, spesso avvicinati al Savona stesso (Gabriele Eretta e Andrea Baudi).

L’anno successivo, Cagliani torna indietro di una categoria, finendo alla Pro Recco, dove trova come allenatore Pierluigi Crovetto e ha come compagni due altri Cagliani: i centrocampisti Marco (‘85) e Pietro (‘82). La squadra è costruita, in attacco, da giovanissimi: a parte Stefano, il poco più grande Federico Callero (‘85), e i parietà Jacopo Caruso (‘88) e Simone Marcutti (‘88), sotto la guida del più esperto Domenico Rignanese (‘73). Alla fine della stagione, Cagliani ha segnato 16 gol: un’ottima impresa.

In estate, le cronache lo danno in passaggio al Rovigo, appena retrocesso dal campionato di Seconda Divisione, assieme a Raffaele Dell’Anno (un altro 1988, che viene dal Saluzzo). Poi, l’approdo a Pontedecimo, dove Stefano si dimostra un giocatore in crescita, anche se ancora, secondo alcuni critici, immaturo caratterialmente.

In campionato, segna quanto Simone Lupo (Andora), Mauro Narizzano (Busalla) e Simone Occhipinti (Bogliasco), quasi tutti vecchie conoscenze biancoblù, come lo sono i calciatori che lo superano in classifica marcatori (Gianni Florio, Rapallo, 25 segnature; Davide Andorno,Loanesi, e Christian Cattardico, Borgorosso Arenzano, 18; l’indimenticabile Marco Prunecchi, Argentina, 14; Andrea Cecchini, Bogliasco, e Rosario Granvillano, Corniglianese, 13; il mai sempre troppo poco rimpianto Roberto Iannolo, Vado e Loanesi, 12). Ma soprattutto segna il giorno del suo compleanno alla Caperanese (era lo scorso 20 aprile), quando dichiara:

E´ una vittoria davvero importante per la squadra e sono felice di aver dato il mio contributo. Di sicuro non poteva esserci modo migliore per festeggiare il mio compleanno.

Da buona cuspide tra ariete e toro, ha sempre racimolato qualche ammonizione di troppo, alle quali si aggiunge anche una espulsione rimediata, guarda caso, l’ultima giornata dello scorso campionato, contro il Focevara: è il 3 maggio, ha segnato due gol e la partita è già in pratica archiviata, visto che si è sul 5-0. Cagliani, però, ingenuamente si fa cacciare dal campo assieme al suo avversario Santunione, per reciproche scorrettezze, quando il match è già al 79′.

L’ingresso è contraddistinto da una vetrina con cornici in stile marino, riproduzioni di navi, bottiglie vuote di champagne e libri sempre di ambientazione marina.

Il menù non è troppo ampio, ma io sono venuto per pranzare a base di polpo lesso con patate e non ho bisogno d’altro.

Il polpo cotto a vapore mi viene servito con un filo d’olio d’oliva e una morbidezza sorprendente (stavo per rinunciare al coltello), le patata e la focaccia genovese fanno da splendido complemento.

Perfetto per un piatto leggero in riva al mare che ti lascia pronto per una nuova giornata di lavoro (purtroppo) o per un pomeriggio sulla spiaggia.

Mojotic a Sestri Levante: Easy Star, silent disco, Macchiavello

Domani riparte il festival:

Non potevano mancare all’evento estivo in Riviera. Stiamo parlando degli Easy Star All – Stars, probabilmente in questo momento la più importante reggae/dub band al Mondo. Con l’uscita del terzo album “Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band”, rivisitazione dello storico disco dei Beatles “Sgt.Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band”, e il lancio del primo singolo estratto “With a little help from my friends”, la band newyorkese specializzata nel rivisitare i classici della musica pop rock presenterà uno spettacolo unico nel suo genere. Mojotic è orgogliosa di presentare, a chi ancora non lo conoscesse, il Silent Disco Afterparty. Un migliaio di cuffie senza fili, due d.j., due musiche diverse, un pulsante per scegliere la preferita.

Come ogni anno torna il tradizionale appuntamento con Andersen Festival, evento di Sestri Levante dedicato al mondo della narrazione e della letteratura; si tratta di quattro giorni ricchi di ospiti, scrittori ed esperti per promuovere il mondo delle fiabe. Il centro della manifestazione sarà quindi la lettura, da parte di musicisti e narratori, di tante favole per bambini che ogni anno vengono inviate all’organizzazione del festival; la giornata principale verrà dedicata alla premiazione della fiaba più bella.

Andersen Festival si terrà dal 28 al 31 Maggio con oltre 100 appuntamenti di vario genere; oltre alle narrazioni ci saranno eventi musicali, di spettacolo e di intrattenimento per tutti. L’ingresso al festival è gratuito e aperto a tutti e si terrà presso la Baia del Silenzio si Sestri Levante; non mancheranno momenti dedicati alla gastronomia e alla musica fino a tarda notte. Si è disputata nel week end, domenica 19 aprile, la seconda prova “Sprint” del circuito Superenduro. Sestri Levante ha accolto sotto la pioggia i ben 270 atleti, provenienti soprattutto da Italia e Francia, e l’acqua ha accompagnato a tratti i concorrenti fino alla terza prova speciale. A spuntarla è stata quindi Karim Amour, forte francese già in coppa del mondo e ora prestato al motocross e all’enduro, sul dominatore della scorsa stagione Davide Sottocornola, che ha chiuso a pochi secondi, e Marco Rodolico. Andrea Bruno, vincitore della seconda prova speciale e terzo dopo le prime tre, ha forato nella quarta ed è uscito dalle prime posizioni della classifica. Tra le donne, vittoria di Elisa Canepa.

Sestri Levante

Zwischen Portofino und Levanto direkt an der Riviera di Levante gelegen, befindet sich die Küstenstadt Sestri Levante. Der Ort ist durch Kontraste geprägt. Einerseits finden Besucher hier eine wunderschöne, historische Altstadt, die durch sehenswerte Häuserfassaden und unzählige alte Portale besticht. Andererseits ist Sestri Levante ein modernes und wichtiges Industrie- und Handelszentrum der Region Ligurien.

Weiterhin bietet der Ort hübsche, kleine Geschäfte, einen reizvollen Hafen, zahlreiche Restaurants, Cafés und Bars sowie die Möglichkeit eines angenehmen Badeaufenthaltes z.B. in den Buchten „Baia del Silenzio“ („Bucht der Ruhe“) und „Baia delle Favole“.

Durch eine ausgedehnte Parkanlage, die unverwechselbaren Panoramen über die Stadt und die Küste aufweisen kann, empfiehlt sich ein Aufstieg auf den 285 Meter hohen Berg Monte Castello.

Unico particolare inquietante la presenza di strani personaggi: forse lo spirito di vecchi corsari naufragati  su questi lidi in tempi immemorabili…?

Non hanno capito, o forse facevano finta di non capire, che all’interno del locale notturno My enjoy planet era in corso una festa privata. E così insistevano per poter unirsi ai balli, assiepati alla porta della discoteca di via Latiro a Sestri Levante. Sono dovuti intervenire i carabinieri di una gazzella, dal nucleo radiomobile della compagnia sestrese, per calmare gli animi e riportare la situazione alla normalità. È accaduto intorno all’una e mezza. I gestori della serata, dedicata ad una festa a numero chiuso, all’ennesima insistenza del gruppetto di ragazzi: una decina di giovani di nazionalità albanese tra i 20 e i 30 anni, hanno chiamato il 112 e tutto si è risolto in pochi minuti: il gruppo ha raggiunto le auto e si è allontanato dal locale.

Dopo l’uscita dell’ultimo disco Ottavio , che secondo me è stupendo, è partito anche il tour.
La Banda sarà live il 7 febbraio (ore 22) al M.E.P. di Sestri Levante.
Due o tre informazioni pratiche:
- i biglietti si possono comprare in prevendita nei punti vendita di Chiavari (GoodMusic), Sestri Levante (Due Erre), Genova (Discoclub) e sul circuito Bookingshow.
- il concerto costa 13 euro e la prevendita costa 2 euro
- al M.E.P. oltre un servizio di sicurezza molto serio c’è anche il GUARDAROBA OBBLIGATORIO.

Io sono stata a vederli in concerto due volte, una volta al TDN e una alla Fiera dell’Unità, e per chi non li ha mai visti dal vivo vi assicuro che sono divertentissimi. Tanto si dovertono loro tanto ci fanno divertire a noi. Più che a un concerto sembra di essere ad una festa di amici.

We went to Italy (Italie) for the second half of Toussaints (all saints) break, which is in early November (yes, I know it is late December now). Shannon’s mom, Jackie, arranged the trip in part because her father grew up in Sestri Levante which is on the Italian Riviera, south of Genoa and just north of the famous cliff towns known as Cinque Terre. She rented a couple of units in a villa on the edge of the Sestri. The villa and especially the grounds were beautiful and the kids really enjoyed running around.

Sestri Levante is a lovely small town right on the ocean that is quite a hot spot during the summer. It is pretty empty in November and we enjoyed the lack of crowds, although several restaurants were actually closed for the month of November. The cool thing about Sestri is that it is a thin peninsula that juts out into the Mediterranean, so thin, in fact, that at one point it is less than a minute walk between the two bays that surround it–Baia delle Favole, (Bay of the Fables), and Baia del Silenzio, the (Bay of Silence). The former is very large and named after Hans Christian Andersen, which made a nice connection to our earlier trip to Copenhagen. The latter is small, with a narrow beach full of fishing boats. It is exceptionally charming.

The peninsula actually widens at the end (which helps define the two bays) and at the point of the Baia del Silenzio is an office building that, believe it or not, contains the headquarters of the leading company in Italian e-learning, Giunti Labs.  So I was able to get in a little work and borrow their internet connection. Giunti is an innovative group doing excellent work. And, obviously, they have great taste in office space. We also got some excellent restaurant recommendations from them, most notably La Fiaschetteria de la Lanterna. Really good, not expensive and with an excellent and underpriced (!) wine list. Go there. Drink good wine. Eat good food. Leave happy. Walk home.  (Very little to no English spoken. We don’t speak italian. Just order something. It will be good.)

Anyways, despite or lack of Italian we had a great trip. In the interest of trying to catch up on the blogging, here are a few hilights:

• Sestri Levante itself. We really loved walking around the narrow streets, eating gelato and shopping. Shannon got a nice pair of boots and Daphne got the cutest sweater-jacket that has become a staple of her wardrobe (Jack got a non-descript blue hoodie that’s become a staple of his as well, but not nearly as cute). The kids loved playing on the beach and the scenery is truly lovely. November isn’t the best time to go, probably, but I’d also hate to be there in the high summer season. I guess a swing season is what I would shoot for.
• Cinque Terre.  These five villages are perched on the cliffs overlooking the ocean and are connected by train. You’ve heard how charming they are. You probably don’t believe it. You’re probably wrong. They are amazing and I wish we’d had more time to visit. They are places for lingering and walking and doing nothing…which isn’t great for the kids. So, given our group, it was just enough. We saw three of them–Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza and Manarola. Our favorite was Manarola because of the rock wall holding back the sea–very fun to play on.  And the chocolate-chlie gelato there was amazing.
• Genoa.  The aquarium in Genoa is super cool and the narrow streets of Genoa itself are an adventure, especially in the pouring rain. Although we went twice (well, most of us–Michael stayed home the second time to work), we didn’t spend enough time there and I’d like to go back (without the kids!).  The first time we went we drove, which was fine on the way there.  But on the way back the highway to Sestri was closed due to a massive, fatal accident in one of the many tunnels (the road from Genoa to Sestri is at least 50% tunnels–no kidding). All traffic was diverted to side streets and it took 3 hours to cover about the last 15 miles of the trip. It was pure torture, although the kids did remarkably well…I dare say better than the adults. Much thanks to the inventors of GPS. We might not have gotten home without it. Needless to say, the family took the train on the second trip.
• The small towns of the Italian riviera.  We spent a day in San Margharita Ligure and Portofino.  Portofino is tucked, improbably, into a narrow ravine leading to the ocean. It is nearly as picturesque as Manarola and you can drive there. You can also bring your big yacht there in the summer, we’re told, and I guess it is quite a hangout for the rich and wanting-to-be famous (Michael Jordan was once asked: “How is it to be rich and famous?” His reply: “It’s better to be just rich.”). We didn’t stay.  The 25 euro cocktails (I’m not making that up) didn’t seem worth it since we were literally the only ones there. Instead we went back to San Magharita Ligure and spent some more time there. It is really nice–good shopping, a nice small park right by the harbor and friendly people. Not as postcard-perfect as Portofino, of course, but by your third cocktail for the price of one in Portofino are you really going to notice?
• Obama.  We found out about Obama’s victory while in Italy!  It was great news for us and all of Europe seems pleased.
• Picking olives. One morning we woke up to folks picking olives on the hill next to the villa.
• Spending time with Jackie and Harvey. It was great for the kids (and us!) to get a full week with Grandma Jackie and Grandpa Harvey. Jackie spent the week before with us in Paris so, really, it was two weeks with her. Given how frequently we see them in California (they live in Napa) the kids really missed them (and I think the feeling was mutual) and it was great to have the time together.  We’re looking forward to Grandma’s return visit in February.

I’m gonna wrap up now as it is time to put the kids to bed. Maybe we’ll add more detail later. Until then, enjoy the photo gallery:

Ero convinto che vi fossero tre modi distinti per regolare la circolazione agli incroci ovvero il semaforo, il semplice segnale “dare la precedenza” oppure la rotonda, sistema che se ben progettato, io preferisco.
Ieri ero di passaggio a Sestri Levante ed ho scoperto che secondo gli esperti del Comune la cosa migliore sia adottare tutti i tre i sistemi, nello stesso incrocio. Come potrete vedere dalle foto allegate, abbiamo una rotonda, ma due delle direttrici interessate hanno anche un semaforo e per essere sicuri di complicare la vita agli automobilisti, il segnale di “dare la precedenza” per gli automobilisti che provengono dalle altre vie non è posto all’ingresso della rotonda, bensì all’interno della stessa. Se poi aggiungiamo il fatto che essendo una località turistica, per il forestiero non è il massimo dover gestire questa sovrabbondanza di segnalazioni, quando già deve districarsi in una cittadina che non conosce. Ieri il traffico era esiguo, mi piacerebbe esserci in agosto.

So, we’re in Deiva Maria, about 50 miles east of Genoa (Genova) on the Italian Riviera and what is it doing? Why, raining, of course.

We arrived last night – Sunday – to a beautiful sunset over the sea, as seen from our pitch, only to be met with rain this morning. At 14.05 (Italian time) it’s still pouring and isn’t as warm as it should be. Still I can look out over the sea and imagine it blue and beautiful, rather than grey and miserable.

And the morning shows us the beach...

I wish I had noted the name of this church in Genoa...

and I have elected to stay here and recover from our long journey south. We left Troyes on Sunday morning and scampered south in brilliant sunshine to the little village of Neydens, just south of Geneva, but still in France. Although so close to Switzerland, we were put off by the thought of the cost of the compulsory vignette for major roads (£40+) and the still chilly nights and so decided to brave the Mont Blanc tunnel and head for the Med.

It was a truly awe-inspiring journey – one of the best I have ever taken – through (literally) the Alps, across/through the Appennines and along the A12 autostrada to the sea. It was worth every penny of the 80E toll charges.

The noise level on the trip was higher than usual. Much of the journey was through tunnels and over bridges between mountains. Patrick doesn’t like heights so every exit from a tunnel caused anxious squeaks and Liz doesn’t like being trapped underground so the end of every bridge brought a sigh of relief from Patrick and anxious squeaks from Liz…

This aversion to the life of a rabbit became very apparent when we decided to take an impromptu trip from Deiva Marina to Sestri Levante

along the old coast road. This is almost entirely tunnels but very narrow single lane affairs. The system is that you arrive at the first tunnel and there is a set of lights and a board telling you what times the lights will go green. In effect, you are being formed into convoys. Some of the tunnels seem endless but are broken up with little holes in the cliff or a few yards of open road. Liz found that she needed to keep her eyes shut or feel sick.

Coming back, we were the first in the fifteen minute convoy. As the lights went green, our buggy decided not to start! At this point we realized that we had come out without phones or money. Fortunately, we realized it was a stuck starter motor and it has a pull start as well. We made it for the following convoy.

But we found the campsites in the area very cramped. Seems Italians think a space to park is all you need. We also found that we were finding the language harder to learn than we expected. The thought of committing to Italian for the next 6 months frightened us quite a lot – especially as our initial experience was that the locals didn’t have much patience with people who didn’t speak the lingo.

We made the decision to run for the French Riviera and eventually to Spain. Liz finds it very difficult when she can’t understand the conversations she overhears!
So three nights later, we headed for France and Villeneuve Lubet Plage, between Nice and Antibes.

Again, a wonderful drive along the old coast road rather than taking the very much quicker toll road. It twists and turns. It goes up and down at alarming angles. But every turn produces wonderful views of the blue Med, often hundreds of feet below but then you drop down to sea level for the villages along the coast.

At one point, we saw a somewhat elderly looking plane banking round the headland and apparently headed for the cliffs! On closer inspection, it proved to be a seaplane. It came in to land (or is that sea) just below us, bounced a good few times and took off again. Not sure what that was all about. Maybe just to rough when it came to it…

– hard to remember that we are on an A-road (well actually the SS1). Ventimiglia was an interesting place to pass through. It looks like it is, a frontier town almost entirely devoted to selling French tourists their cheap booze and tobacco (and fuel, of course) together with amazing arrays of tatty souvenirs.

We skirted Monaco – actually, it felt more like flying over it – then dropped down to the very much more sophisticated plain at Nice.

The campsite we are on is very attractively set out with hedged pitches and clean, well appointed facilities, including an indoor swimming pool and small shop/café that sells bread and croissants in the morning.

What do mean, travelling?

They have a number of “chalets” or wooden huts for rent. We took one of these for Julyan & Georgia to come for the weekend as we wanted to see them and Paris was proving very wet and cold.

They came down on the overnight sleeper on Thursday night, arriving at Antibes at 7am Friday morning. Fortunately, they had the sense to find a café for breakfast before ringing us at a more reasonable hour.

Patrick had just bought his long promised Nikon D90 digital SLR in Nice complete with three lenses. A 50mm f1.8, an 18-200 zoom with vibration removal and a Sigma 4.5mm (yes, really) fisheye. This proved a great success with both Georgia and Julyan.

They went back on Sunday but this time on the TGV in daylight. The round trip cost them just 100E.

We are currently waiting for Patrick’s new glasses to be made. £350 in UK two years ago – £650 here! But they really are essential – particularly if he is driving… Liz has driven the buggy on the road after a trial run on the beach but is still proving adept at dreaming up excuses for not doing so.

She also had a happy snurge through the English Bookshop. We both remember Antibes from a sailing visit in 1994 and have found it just as good now, very cramped and compact but the old town is charming with a wonderful market.

Amazingly, we have finally got our post from Claire so we have things like driving licences, bank cards and health cards at last. Once the specs are ready, probably the end of the week, we will move on to Mandelieu, the industrial end of Cannes where there is a motorhome stockists. The idea is to pick up things like a campsite discount card (ACSI) and a shower bag but Liz may feel the need to inspect other vans and…

Perché la stagione non vada a finire nel peggiore dei modi, occorre che tutti quanti lavorano e vivono intorno al Savona si rendano conto della gravità della situazione. Qui non si tratta di chinare la testa davanti allo Spezia, o all’Alessandria di turno: si tratta di squadre che hanno più possibilità economiche, una diversa organizzazione societaria - non c’è altro da dire.

Qui occorre guardare al fondo della classifica e rendersi conto che si è conquistato solo un punto in due partite, che la corazzata Novese oggi è stata sconfitta dall’Albese che non certo è stata costruita per fare la C2 (forse, i giornalisti dovrebbero informarsi meglio…), che la Sarzanese (che l’anno scorso, se avesse avuto un punto di meno, sarebbe retrocessa) ha sei punti e oggi ha regolato il Derthona, un’altra delle favorite…

Se il buon giorno si vede dal mattino, il Savona cominci a guardarsi dalle zone basse. La Sestrese che ha dominato il Savona ha zero punti. Facile pensare che risalirà. La Novese ha gli effettivi per puntare in alto, o comunque per rimettersi in carreggiata. Perfino il Sestri Levante è una squadra da non sottovalutare.

Che il Savona impari presto il nuovo copione. Altro che superfavorita, altro che “ci batteremo solo con lo Spezia”. Qui urge il ridimensionamento delle aspettative e delle pretese.

Qui urge tornare, prepotentemente, al calciomercato e comprare, ma senza vendere.
