Installing windows 7

Step 1: Just boot from the DVD drive to get to this screen which says “Windows is loading Files”  .

But first , you must have ensured that

1. your computer is capable of running window 7
2. you have a hard-disk partition to install windows
3. Windows DVD is not corrupted .
4. A lot of those pirated DVD-images available on the torrent sites are riddled with malware and  spyware
5. Better buy an original DVD
6. If you already have windows vista or XP running, then insert the DVD , click upgrade and the reboot- This will ensure that all of your installed programs and settings remain intact even after you install 7 .This will make the transition even more enjoyable !

Step 2: Adjusting minor settings.

Install options

Select the language, keyboard and the currency formats.  OR simply ignore them because its set by default for a common setting which will work fine for most of us.

Then click on “Next” then you shall be lead to a screen , where you should click on the install button.

Then you shall be taken to the License page-All you need to do is to accept the conditions by checking on the check box and  proceed .

Step 3:“Choosing Advanced install” or “Upgrade Install “

If you have followed “point 6″ of step 1 , please click on upgrade else click on install.

Anyways if you are doing a fresh install , the upgrade option is unavailable and if you have followed point 6,but still want to have a fresh install, you are free to go ahead.

Step 4: The most vital step

Just a small mistake here might be fatal if you do not know what you are doing .

If you mistakenly format or delete a partition here, you might* lose your data. So its better if you install over the earlier “c:\” drive of your computer after making a backup of the important data.

Click on the partition you want to install .Then click next.

I shall create a separate page for advanced options.

*as a matter of fact, no data that you delete is ever deleted even after partitioning or formatting or “Shift-Deleting or “deleting from the recycle bin”. If you have got into such trouble ,consider googling for data recovery softwares. (but sure enough getting them back is tougher than loosing them , because it’s going to take hours for this process with not 100% success guarantee).

Step 5: Let the installation begin………

The Installation begins

Finally the Installation begins ,with the Copying ,Expanding,Installing and updating.

Your computer shall restart after this process.

The screen will ask for a username and password.

Step 6:  An Honest/Dishonest step

Enter the windowds 7 product key

Now , you shall be asked to enter the product key for Windowds. If you have the original key then enter it .Else do not try to cheat Microsoft at this point of time . Because even if install entering a key, you shall still require to complete the authentication to use it . Its useless to enter a wrong key as they provide with a 30 day free trail period . Just click on next, if you do not have a key.

Step 7: Setting up the clock and the network

Just set up the clock and homesharing options.

Windows shall boot after these settings to an all new OS.

David Fincher is the kind of director that will always be tied to one movie. he has yet to put out a bad film, but people will always associate him with ‘Fight Club’. and i feel bad for him. ‘Fight Club’ is a great movie, but it’s ‘alternative message’ is only skin deep. the points it makes it beats you over the head with, and the jokes it makes it hits you harder with. because that has become his crowning achievement in the eyes of most film fans, his other, and notably better, work is all forgotten. he directed the stunning and fiendishly underrated ‘Alien 3′ (the assembly cut, or extended cut is far and away one of the best sci-fi films i have ever seen, and yes i know what a huge claim that is), the touching and moving ‘Curious Case of Benjamin Button’, the masterful crime-thriller ‘Zodiac’, the violent and blood-curdling ‘Se7en’, and this film, 1997’s criminally overlooked ‘The Game’.

this film is not to be watched the way ‘Fight Club’ is meant to be watched. you cant sit around with a group of people, eat pizza, laugh, and watch the film, you need to be sitting in silence. you need to be feeling a little introspective, and you need to dig deeper into the film.

if you have not seen the film (which you can find almost anywhere) i would advise reading THIS summary before the review. note that the summary is of the WHOLE film, and thus, contains spoilers and the ending.

the film plays around with ideas of loss and lack of control. Nickolas cant control the things happening to him and around him, and piece by piece he has to fight to get through it all. but if you watch the film a second time, you will notice little things throughout. you can see how he is being helped, how he is being set up to make sure he survives, how he is kept safe while being thrown into dangerous situations. there is an ever-present harness on him.

the best example of loss of control throughout the film is the climactic suicide attempt. when Nickolas jumps off the building after shooting and ‘killing’ Conrad, he is jumping just like his father did. just like he has feared he would. just like the picture stuffed int he clown’s mouth said he would. just like he himself hinted at while talking to his housekeeper/cook/maid. he had no control there. he had to jump. it wasnt even a choice. he was under the impression that he had no money, no family, and nothing to live for. so he had to jump. like father like son. and because the test was built around exhaustive testing and his brother’s own testimony, it was obvious what would happen. he didnt even chose to kill himself, it was forced on him. and he didnt even chose where to jump from. that was chosen for him as well. the film is full of visual representations of his lack of choice. he is so empty, so predictable, that he doesnt make choices anymore. he just follows the fame trajectory. and because he can not chose anything for himself, the actions are obvious to the people who create and run the game for him.

the final twenty minutes of the film is where most people attack. but it is in those twenty minutes that i think Fincher really gets to put his trademark hauntingly ambiguous tricks to work. the film twists ti give you an ending you didnt expect, and then it twists again, and finally there is what most people saw as the final twist, Conrad being alive, and the whole thing simply being a part of the game.  but the very last moments of the film, where Nicolas goes out to talk to ‘the waitress’ and he not-so-subtly hits on her, that i think is the final twist. her smile, the darting eyes, her mistaken place of birth, and then finally her offer for a drink, THAT is where Fincher plays with his audience’s head. is that offer part of the game? is that coffee that they will drink another piece of the puzzle? everyone must have known that he would ask her out once everything was safe… so IS everything safe?

Sean Penn offers up a wonderful job as Conrad, but again, Michael Douglas turns in an amazing and powerful job. Michael Douglas is quickly becoming one of my favorite living actors.

i recommend this film wholeheartedly. but, like others i have recommended, not to everyone. i know most people wont be able to get past the ‘faith factor’ of the film. many people will have a problem and say things like ‘what if he jumped off the other side of the building’, or ‘what if he had picked up another gun at a different time’, or ‘what if he hadnt seen that commercial at the restaurant’, but those people are missing the point of the film. explaining to them that he COULDNT have jumped form anywhere else, or he COULDNT have used another gun would be futile. they dont understand his lack of choice in all fields of life. so i wont bother catering to them. i will just say that for those of you who could accept that, this film is a marginalized classic, and you need to see it.

Visto che nel motore di ricerca è abbastanza frequente la parola downgrade mi sono deciso a scrivere una guida per ritornare a XP o Vista da Windows 7.

Prima vorrei dire che a mio avviso è quasi uno spreco; se c’è qualcosa che non va in Seven potrebbe essere o perchè si ha eseguito l’upgrade, cliccando su Aggiornamento e non su Personalizzata. In questo caso, se riscontrate problemi quali tempi biblici per accensione e/o spegnimento, lentezza e affaticamento cronico del PC o altri problemi che non ha mai dato prima, vi consiglio di salvare i dati importanti e seguire questa guida per formattare reinstallare Seven.

Se invece Seven vi fa proprio schifo o volete tornare al vostro vecchio OS per altri motivi, fare il downgrade non è impossibile. Anche questa procedura prevede però una formattazione;
se il sistema operativo che avevate sul vostro computer era incluso o comprato legalmente, dovreste avere un disco di ripristino, ed è possibile tornare a quello con l’utilizzo di quest’ultimo.

Se invece dovete montare un’altro sistema e crackarlo, la prima cosa da fare è scaricare l’iso del sistema operativo, XP o Vista. Fatto questo, montatelo su un DVD e inseritelo nel computer. Fate partire dal BIOS la macchina e selezionate con i tasti opportuni lo slot DVD così da metterlo in cima alla lista e far partire da esso il vostro computer.

Seguite l’installer di XP o Vista, dal quale molto probabilmente dovrete formattare il disco C:
Dopo la formattazione partirà l’installazione e al termine avrete un po’ di lavoro da fare, e potete trovare info utili sempre qui (andate verso la fine della pagina)

Suite du billet précédent: je viens, aujourd’hui jeudi 26 novembre, de me rendre à nouveau sur le centre de téléchargement de Microsoft et il semble que l’accès à la version française de Windows 7 ait finalement été ajouté! Tant en 32 qu’en 64 bits. Je me demande ce qui les a fait changé d’avis, mais je n’irai pas leur poser la question…

Pour prouver ma bonne foi, j’avais prévu le coup et pris une capture d’écran au moment de la rédaction du premier article, soit lendemain de la réception du courriel dans lequel on me répondait que la version française ne serait pas mise “on line”…

Well, I was having some trouble and then fixed it so I might as well document it for future reference.

The problem: I’m running Windows 7 and my ipod touch 2gen won’t sync with itunes.

My hardware: Asus P7P55D motherboard with Intel i7 processor. USB is based directly off the motherboard.

Symptoms: I could plug in my ipod and get the windows ‘USB found!” sound, but it didn’t show up in “My Computer” under devices and itunes gave me error 0xE000065 which isn’t terribly helpful other than to google help.

I tried first: restarting various things (drivers etc) and setting the “AppleMobileDeviceHelper” process into compatibility mode (and admin run) as per a forum’s suggestion.

Uninstall and reinstall itunes (both 64 and 32 bit versions) and apple drivers. (forums led me to check the MTP problems within the USB with no avail.

People have tried PCI based USB and it seemed to work for them. Since I didn’t really want to buy new hardware I kept searching.

Also, I tried two itunes alternatives (Media Monkey and Sharepod) which both refused to find my ipod connection. This is weird because remember, the computer was getting some sort of USB connection, the ipod charged and made the plugged in sound.

Also tried “uninstalling” (unchecking the control panel box for) windows media player (which apparently helped others)

Nothing worked in the software / drivers so I dug deeper: the bios.

The true solution:

On my particular hardware’s bios there is an option for “Intel C-State” which was disabled previously. I enabled it and booted. It worked.

As was explained on a forum (and my further research revealed) C-state refers to the processor’s idle speed. (please excuse my probably inaccurate lay-mans description) and the power consumption of the entire PC. This included USB ports.

So, it seemed safe enough to enable and seems to solve my ipod /itunes issues. If my tower gets unstable in the near future I’ll update this post.

Sub7

Sadly, this once famous and feared program was picked up early by Microsoft. SubSeven (in the early years) ride the line between a RAT; remote administration tool; and a having program. The same has happened with the program NetBus. Nowadays, the beautiful blue interface that defines Sub7 against others, is officially classified as a hacking program. Another sad thing is that Microsoft was/is so good at identifying it. Shucks.

Sub7’s way of gaining access is simple in theory. Let me restate this, IN THEORY. what you need to do is infect someone with a virus by which Sub7 gains access to the computer through. If this makes no sense, let me offer an anology. A thief shoots a grappling hook to the top of a building he is about to rob. This is our server, our access method. This grappling hook is then permanantly attached to the roof so the thief can gain acces to it at any time. This is the act of accidently installing the server that the hacker sent to you (the victim).

So. In review, you make an access point (the server), and don’t worry. It’s not as hard as you think. They (mobman) made a specialized program to make the server. For our example today, we are going to name the server after our victim, John Doe, (creative right?). The program that edits these servers (EditServer.exe, we seem to lack creativity in the hacking world…) looks and is sortof complicated. One must know some things already about what the features are. THIS PROGRAM IS NOT FOR THE SCRIPT KIDDIE. Once you have edited the server, start up Sub7.

Once you have done this, go to ‘Connection” then Server options, or Server or something. Find your server. Then type in the target IP adress, and port number. Click connect. You should have access to thier computer if they are online. Have fun.

When I investigated this offer, I was initially disappointed because it appeared they were only offering Windows 7 Home Premium at this lower rate. However, to my delight, as I scrolled down the page I found a link entitled “Need to connect to your college’s domain?” Although it wasn’t as advertised as the Home Premium offer, Windows did decide to offer Windows 7 Professional for the same price of $29.99. Shichinin No Samurai AKA Seven Samurai (1954)

The Seven Samurai is the first movie that I had the pleasure of seeing from the master director Akira Kurosawa, and it is also one of his most praised works. Without a wasted frame, the story takes place over the course of almost 3 hours. Kurosawa, as he does in each of his movies, explores more than just the action and injustice featured in the plot. He is a humanist first and foremost, training his lens on the interpersonal relationships of the characters, tracking growth across this epic. As good as this film is, I would have to say that Kurosawa has numerous films that are even better, check out Stray Dog, Rashomon, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, and my personal favorite High and Low.

The Ladykillers (1955)

Existing as a special combination of dark humor, and slapstick farce, The Ladykillers is exceptionally funny and unsettling. Alec Guinness stars as the leader of a group of criminals staying at the home of a hardy, vivacious older lady under the guise of being musicians. The plan is simple, rob a bank, and utilizing the trusting nature of the kindly old lady, and the remoteness of her home to their advantage, get away with it. Easily my favorite of Alec Guinness’ films (thanks in part to the Star Wars prequels that is), The Ladykillers features a solid cast of great actors, including a very young Peter Sellers.

Bob Le Flambeur AKA Bob the Gambler (1955)

My introduction to the fantastic Jean-Pierre Melville, I was captivated immediately by the cool as ice gangster come gambler Bob. This film is filled with signature Melville-isms. Glorious post war street scenes in Paris. Trench-coats. Honor among thieves. And who could forget the caper. To talk too much about this film is to give too much away, and to do that is to ruin it for those who haven’t seen it. Other classics by Melville: Le Cercle Rouge, Le Samourai, and the recently released in the U.S. Army of Shadows. All are fantastic, and deserve to be in this book! Incidentally, Bob le Flambeur was recently re-made into The Good Thief starring Nick Nolte and directed by Neil Jordan, and while I’m not generally a fan of re-makes, I really, really liked this film. Not quite as good as the original, but it was one of my favorite films of 2002.

Kiss Me Deadly (1955)

The ultimate in hardboiled private eye crime stories, Kiss Me Deadly is a full on assault on decency. Kiss Me Deadly proudly presents itself as a grimy PI story, littered with bodies and intrigue. If you even have a passing interest in film noir, this should be your first stop. Violent, misogynist, brutish, and glorious, Kiss Me Deadly begs to be watched and dares you to look away. I myself, loved it!

The Ten Commandments (1956)

Apparently based on a book, The Ten Commandments is an epic in every sense of the word. Colored in bright explosive candy hues, and featuring huge sets, as well as a cast that number in the thousands, The Ten Commandments is more spectacle than great movie. Certainly not a waste of time, but not my first choice when choosing something light to throw in.

Det Sjunde Inseglet AKA The Seventh Seal (1957)

A classic, and well-loved film by Swedish auteur Ingmar Bergman, The Seventh Seal stars an extremely young Max von Sydow as a knight who faces Death at a game of chess to decide his fate. This film is filled with themes that find their way into each of Bergman’s works, ranging from courage in the face of death, religion, and humanity. The Seventh Seal still holds up to this day, with luminous black and white photography that, thanks to Criterion’s Blu-ray edition, has never looked better.

Note: Don’t be fooled by the similarly themed, but much worse, “Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey”

Kumonosu Jo AKA Throne of Blood (1957)

Kurosawa’s retelling of Macbeth set in feudal Japan. Shakespeare has never looked better as it does in the stark black and white, twisting shadows and swirling mists as seen through Kurosawa’s camera. Toshiro Mifune doesn’t disappoint in the lead role, but the real stand out is Isuzu Yamada in the as Mifune’s opportunistic, poisonous wife. The plotting and scheming starts right from the get go, all the way up till the frenzied end of the film.

Touch of Evil (1958)

One of the many trouble spots on Orson Welles’ resume due to studio interference, and financing issues, still Touch of Evil remains as possibly the best B-Movie ever made. Iconic (and sometimes hilarious) performances by Janet Leigh, Charlton Heston (as a Mexican) and Welles himself as the crooked cop willing to do almost anything to ensure justice prevails (just so long as it’s his justice). The movie is almost as famous for its long tracking shot opening as it is for any of the performances, featuring a nearly 4 minute shot done in one take which travels around cars, actors, and buildings. The film The Player, payed homage to it by mentioning it a few times during a similarly complex shot in that film.

Vertigo (1958)

Flopping on its initial release, Vertigo didn’t gain the acclaim it deserved until much later after it was released on video. Vertigo visits themes present in each of Hitchcock’s other works, including the obsession with blondes, innocence tainted with corruption, and the schlub who get in over his head. Jimmy Stewart plays the schlub, Kim Novak plays the blonde, and gloriously technicolored San Francisco plays the innocence and the corruption. Vertigo has a twisty convoluted story with elements of surrealism, an interesting watch.

Mon Oncle AKA My Uncle (1958)

My favorite of Jacques Tati’s Monsieur Hulot films, Mon Oncle was also the first of them that I had seen. Tati, playing Hulot, is a master of visual comedy, and not in the same way as the Three Stooges, or even Buster Keaton. Tati is an artist whose work is appreciated the longer you watch. The plot of the movie is not so much important to the film as it is simply a guide to get our characters into interesting situations so we can watch them get out. If you liked this film, check out other films featuring the bumbling Mr. Hulot, including Trafic, Playtime, and Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot.

Les Quatre Cents Coups AKA The 400 Blows (1959)

My personal favorite of the French new wave movement was this small-scale film, personal piece from Francois Truffaut. Featuring the director’s alter ego, Antoine Doinel, The 400 Blows is the first in a series of movies, each about a different stage of life and the challenges that go along with them. The period from childhood to young adult is covered heart-breakingly here, following Antoine through the rough waters of his home life and his interaction with the outside world. Later chapters deal with finding love, getting married, having children, and growing old, but Les Quatres Cent Coups remains the directors most personal and his best.

North by Northwest (1959)

One of Hitchcock’s best, North by Northwest features Cary Grant, suave as ever, being mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies. Just like in Hitchcock’s most famous works (of which this is one), the witty one-liners, suspense, and drama are heaped on generously. I can’t help but feel sad that a similarly themed, but better film featuring Cary Grant was left off this 1001 list. Charade, also featuring Audrey Hepburn, James Coburn, and Walter Matthau, is one of my favorite movies ever! Check out both Charade AND North by Northwest as a double feature! You won’t be sorry.

Some Like it Hot (1959)

Now this is an example of a classic, well-loved film, with actors that I really love (Jack Lemmon I’m looking at you), a premise that is more than suitable, yet the finished product never really caught me. It’s sort of like Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief. I never really saw what all the hype was about. That being said, I didn’t hate it either. It never made fun of me when I had braces, or turned me down for a date, my affections and this film have just always been mutually exclusive. Perhaps it deserves another watch…then again maybe I should just watch The Last Boyscout again.

A Bout De Souffle AKA Breathless (1959)

Jean-Luc Godard is nothing if not a sacred cow of French cinema, and while I have loved some of his other films (Le Mepris, Bande A Part, and Masculin Femenine), Breathless or A Bout De Souffle never really did it for me. I can still rationalize why it was so revolutionary (use of jump cuts, editing, non-actors, and subscription to the aesthetic of the French new wave style), and see it’s importance, but I prefer other examples of New Wave cinema. If you are interested in seeing a Godard film, try Masculin Feminine, it is just as revolutionary and a bit more accessible.

Psycho (1960)

A prime example of Hitchcock in his prime. Psycho was so good, and so affecting that some of its actors were type cast just on the strength of this one film (Anthony Perkins, and Janet Leigh), so much so that without a little research it’s hard to think of what other films either of them has been in. Psycho may not be as visually shocking and gory as horror films of today, but it still manages to hold up over time and be just as unsettling as it was back in its day. Hitchcock has always excelled at making the comfortable un-comfortable (motels, birds, tea, dreams, the list goes on…), and the subtle touches in this film work perfectly. Consider for a moment that Perkin’s Bates is an amateur taxidermist of birds, and then that Janet Leigh’s name is Marion Crane a type of bird, or the fact before the crime Marion is wearing a white bra and a white purse, while after it she is wearing a black bra and purse. His attention to detail, and knack for foreshadowing is demonstrated in full force in Psycho and remains one of his best films. Despite all the uproar over the Gus Van Sant remake, I thought it actually did some justice to the original film and if nothing else brought it a little more deserved attention.

Note: This film also has the distinction of being the first American film to ever show a toilet flushing on-screen.

Peeping Tom (1960)

Released the same year as Psycho, and dealing with similar subject matter, Peeping Tom wasn’t received with the same acclaim and attention that the former was. On the contrary, Peeping Tom was seen as subversive, perverted, and generally too shocking. The story revolves more around the killer than the victim in this one, whereas Psycho is presented more from the victim’s point of view. Either way, Peeping Tom is a fine film, one worth watching, however it is so similar to Psycho that I’m not sure it needs to be on the list of 1001 films.

The Apartment (1960)

As far as light-hearted, touching movies about someone recovering from a bout of depression, this one is my favorite. Billy Wilder directs Shirley MacLaine and Jack Lemmon in a sweet touching comedy without losing any of his trademark cynicism or the pointedness of his dialogue. The Apartment is another chance for me to champion the somewhat maligned talents of Mr. Fred MacMurray as Lemmon’s boss. MacMurray plays a fantastic creep who really defines the term “heel”.

Spartacus (1960)

Containing almost none of the trademark elements that make up a Stanley Kubrick movie as we know it (Kubrick apparently dis-owned the film before it’s release), Spartacus remains an interesting movie that isn’t great. It is, however, another example of a film that enabled an up and coming filmmaker to gain his voice, and define himself later on in his career. If only for that reason, Spartacus is a great film, but luckily for the studio, it has some other things going for it. Kirk Douglas plays the title role of Spartacus, and despite all the lavish set production, and concentration on spectacle, brings some heart to the slave who defied Rome.

Jules Et Jim AKA Jules and Jim (1962)

One of director, Francois Truffaut’s most well thought of films, Jules and Jim may be the Lost In Translation, or Juno of its time. Viewed from a certain angle, the plot is a completely moving and emotional story that you believe, so much so, that you can see yourself and those around you in the roles that these characters embody. Viewed from another perspective, it can seem a little precious or purposefully manipulative. Depending on what is happening in your life (I’m mostly thinking about whether or not you are in a relationship, and if you are happy), this movie can preach the glory of love and the pain of rejection. On the flipside, if you have shaken free the angsty, teenager-esque feelings everyone has had in their youth, you may feel like you’re being talked down to.

Cleo De 5 A 7 AKA Cleo from 5 to 7

Taking place, as the title suggests, from 5 to 7, we get a slice of the life of Cleo played out before us. Sometimes we, along with Cleo herself, are a voyeurs into the lives of people around her, and other times we are focused on her as she roams around Paris. By and large Cleo lives a carefree, spoiled life, yet we still sympathize with her when times are hard, and cheer for her when they are good. This is a small film in a lot of ways, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t impacting and beautiful.

Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

I have to admit.  I didn’t like Lawrence of Arabia that much.  Perhaps I was too young to appreciate the aesthetic beauty of Lean’s desert panorama camerawork, or just maybe it was the epic length that decided it for me.  One way or another, I didn’t appreciate it as much as everyone else seems to think I should. 

The Manchurian Candidate (1962)

Overly reliant on gimmicks and quick editing techniques, The Manchurian Candidate doesn’t flesh out the story nearly…wait, no that was the terrible re-make that came out in 2004.  The original 1962 version, is just as taught, and well executed today as it was at its release.  While the story between the two versions remained virtually the same, the consistent building of tension and anxiety, combined with the pitch perfect acting of Lawrence Harvey, Frank Sinatra (yes…Frank Sinatra), and the devilish turn of Angela Lansbury as the Queen of Hearts, makes for a fantastic film.

Lolita (1962)

It took me forever to finally see Lolita.  I have known the basic story (older man, younger girl) but had just never gotten around to seeing it.  And while I’ve been told that the book is much better, I thought the film was pretty good.  Not great, mind you, but definitely solid.  The shocking and controversial nature of the relationship was toned down a bit for the screen, and maybe as a result doesn’t seem all that shocking in today’s day and age.  Memorable turns by Peter Sellers, and Shelley Winters, not to mention it’s an early film of Stanley Kubrick.

The Birds (1963)

Despite being one of Hitchcock’s most popular, I actually think that The Birds is one of his most over-rated.  I think I owe it to myself to give this one another look someday, but right now I feel that it was too heavily based on the gimmick that had to rely on special effects.  Though it is not necessarily the fault of the movie, but the special effects seemed particularly dated and old fashioned.  Worth a watch, but not my favorite by a long shot.

8 1/2 (1963)

Federico Fellini is, by most accounts, a master of cinema.  One, that I have always had a little trouble getting fired up over.  It’s not that I don’t like his films once I’ve seen them, the problem comes in when it comes to motivating myself to see them.  I couldn’t tell you why, but his films consistently get pushed off when they come up on my Netflix Queue or when I see the one or two I have on my shelf.  I shouldn’t feel this way, considering I really loved the moving poetry, and soul baring passion in 8 1/2, yet it still happens.  One very definite reason to watch this film is the man-crushable Marcello Mastroianni, swaggering through as the alter-ego of Fellini himself.  Dealing with all the reservations with women, making movies, childhood, and the future that the director very famously dealt with himself, Mastroianni embodies a certain cool, yet believable character that begs to be watched.  Combined with imagery that leaves the audience wanting more, 8 1/2 is a fantastic film.

After basically refusing to review the latest Dave Matthews Band disc, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, I wrote this review elsewhere, which still doesn’t quite represent my feelings on the album. I was working within some space/convention requirements, and because I had to write in the third person, I couldn’t quite gush in the way that I wanted to.

Excuses aside, I still find it hard to be completely objective about Big Whiskey, but I’ll just go out on a limb and say that this is the best DMB disc since Busted Stuff (and for those who don’t count Busted Stuff, as it’s the reworking of the leaked Lillywhite Sessions, then it’s the best thing since Before These Crowded Streets). To me, one of the best things about the disc is that it has “flow,” which is a term that’s probably better applied to rivers and menstrual cycles than to anything artistic. But here’s what I mean: the songs transition smoothly into one another without jarring the listener. Everything makes sense from beginning to end, like a tightly developed narrative, and that’s an achievement in the age of the single-tune download. The only possible exception might be “Alligator Pie” which, with its down-home flavor and New Orleans references, sort of takes me right out of the album after the surreal “Squirm” and before the nasty get-down of “Seven.” I think bonus track “#27″ (available on a bonus disc with a special edition of the disc) might have worked better here, as it’s a downbeat-yet-hopeful song about life’s frustrations dissapating with the love of a good woman. But all in all, I’m still enjoying the album six months later, and I think it’s a great send-off to the late LeRoi Moore.

En tant qu’étudiant, et étudiant en informatique en particulier, j’ai droit au téléchargement gratuit d’une série de produit Microsoft “grâce” à leur programme MSDN AA. Je me suis rendu sur ma3d.com, et, étant belge francophone, j’ai d’abord été surpris d’être confronté à un message d’accueil résolument flamand, quelque soit la langue sélectionnée. Déjà fort amusé par la chose, je me suis ensuite rendu à l’endroit idoine pour télécharger Windows Seven pro. Là, j’ai constaté que seule la version anglaise et la version néerlandaise étaient disponibles. J’envoie donc un petit message cordial au monsieur qu’on nous prie de contacter en cas de soucis:

Car MSDN AA  peut être uniquement utiliser dans le cadre de développement et la version est limité dans le temps, la version Française sera pas  mis on line.

En Belgique, nous aurons donc droit à une version en “néerlandais” (pour des gens qui parlent “le” flamand!*) mais pas à de version en français. Tirez-en vos conclusions…
