Here is a first look at the new Carrie Bradshaw book.  This time around, she is in high school.  MG, did I just die and go to heaven?  Me already likey.

Are you happy?

Last evening I thought about the state of being we call happiness. I realized that I don’t ask myself often if I’m happy. I never have. But I’ve always recognized (and been grateful for) moments of happiness, and I’ve had my share.

For most of us, loved ones are part of the picture. Many of my happiest moments involve my children. Some, a man. Others, friends. Many happy moments have been entirely about my own accomplishments or experiences. A piece of writing I felt good about. Time spent with magnificent works of art. An unexpected encounter with a fascinating mind. Beautiful shoes. Yes, even a great hat.

Are you happy? Do you think about it?

When is the last time you were happy?

I remember nine days when I was smitten-and-not-quite-in-love. In Paris. Writing daily, seeing art, walking. Staying by myself in a studio apartment. No one to worry about except me. Rare. So rare, that time to myself. I was completely happy.

I can still recreate the shape of that feeling, if not its mass or its temperature. It is greater than a summation of happy moments. More intricate than ingredients to be listed. It is alchemy, a state of wholly-owned self, full capacity in a pleasurable process of expansion. It is a burrowing inward where light flourishes, alone, as well as in the company of another.

Contentment is more familiar; it is warm bread, the face of your child, sleeping. The stack of bills on the kitchen table, paid. If contentment is warmth, happiness is fire.

How often are you happy?

When I say that I love Sex and the City for the relationships among the women – funny, honest, imperfect – the men I know roll their eyes and say “yeah, sure.”  The women I know nod.

In the Sex and the City Movie, there was an exchange I’ll never forget, as Samantha (Kim Cattrall) is assessing her relationship of five years.

“How long has it been since you were happy?” one of her friends asks. “Six months,” she replies.

Then she asks Charlotte: “How often are you happy?”

Her answer: “Every day. Maybe not all day every day, but everyday.”

What a response. Can you imagine what it would be like to feel happiness every day? Even a little?

What makes you happy?

Sometimes, we dwell on what makes us unhappy. It seems easier, though it shouldn’t be.  Do you ever find yourself doing that?

I know what makes me happy:

• My children, laughing.
• Fewer money worries.
• Work that matters, and pays my bills.
• Someone to love, and love me back.
• Writing well.
• Speaking French.

It seems strange, looking at my list and the sequence of items. What makes us happy shifts and shuffles the longer we live; putting it into words is illuminating. Writing well and speaking French are the easiest to attain (which does not make them easy). They are also the only pieces of my personal happiness puzzle in which I have a major hand. Is the absence of happiness linked to lack of control?

Must we control our environment in order to be happy? Or just our fair share?

Passion

Then there is passion. To pursue what I love. Sexual passion. Intellectual passion. Ah. Now, now I see.

Nine days in Paris. The intersection of everything I love, with the exception being that my sons were not there, but they were on holiday and well. Yes. Intellectual spark, sensual play with a man who understood my most private selves. Speaking French. Writing well.

I remember marveling at the time, rolling the words around on my tongue, in two languages. Aloud. Je suis heureuse. I am happy. This is happiness.

Not a huge fan of this particular outfit but I loved the Sex and the City movie. They are filming for the sequel and in this scene Samantha and Miley Cyrus run into each other on the red carpet wearing the same outfit.  As shown in the pic, they are wearing matching sparkly mini-dresses and the Marilyn boot by Dolce Vita in Desert. Penelope Cruz is the latest celeb who supposedly makes an appearance in the upcoming Sex and the City sequel. She plays herself in her small scene in the movie, and shot the bit last week in New York. According to OK! magazine, plenty of other stars will pop in and out of the next ‘SATC’ movie.

Beyonce’s song “Single Ladies” will be featured and performed by Liza Minnelli at the wedding of Stanford and Anthony, which sees Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw serve as Best Man.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus is also set to film a small part later this week. Although it is unknown what the 16-year-old Hannah Montana star’s role in Sex and the City 2 will be, author Candace Bushnell, on whose novel the original TV series was based, has previously said the singer-and-actress would make a perfect young Carrie Bradshaw.

Miley herself has previously expressed her desire to make a “younger” version of the original TV series. She said: “I’d love to do a younger, cleaner version of Sex and the City. I like to think of myself as the girl that no one can get, that no one can keep in their hand.”

it’s been exactly one month living here in santa monica, and i’ve loved every minute of it! one of the many things i was particularly excited about was decorating my new room… because really, what girl doesn’t love dressing up her personal living space?! it’s been a gradual process… but i’m excited that it’s all finally starting to come together.

obviously the first thing i had to decide on was the overall color scheme. after some brainstorming (and taking all my current furnishings into consideration), i went with a blue+chocolate+gold+cream/tan+white combination. i also drew inspiration from carrie bradshaw’s revamped bedroom in the SATC movie:

isn’t it gorgeous?! i love how it’s so modern yet timeless at the same time and how all the colors complement each other so well! i’ll post up some photos of my room too, once it’s completely done.

so far, i’ve made a few new purchases: chocolate satin bedding, 4 throw pillows in gold, bronze, white & blue, 2 rugs (one area, one accent), and a floor lamp with built-in shelving. i also had a friend help me paint my walls a pale sky blue a couple weeks ago, but after a couple days… i just wasn’t diggin’ it anymore. now i’m thinking of repainting it a deep ocean blue… almost teal, with greenish undertones. that would act as such a lovely backdrop for all the earthy tones in my room.

as for my bare walls, i was madly in love with the mini art gallery idea (also) from carrie’s room. i immediately went on art.com and ordered several prints to put up. they’re all so pretty, and i can’t wait to have them custom framed! here’s a sneak preview:

The Immortal Beloved Letters are terribly romantic letters written by Beethoven. They’re back!!! Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte are back in full force. Sex and the City 2 began filming last week, September 1, in New York City. The SATC fashions are also back and better than ever. It seems that Carrie has traded in her coveted Manolo’s for Louboutin’s.

Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted on set as Carrie Bradshaw wearing a Christian Doir Fall 2000 newspaper print dress. Fellow SATC addict, Catherine Kallon over at redcarpet-fashionawards.com noticed that Carrie had worn the dress previously on an episode during Season 3.

I am soooo excited and cannot wait for all the fashions that I know the ladies will bring.

The first Sex and the City movie, grossed over $400 million last summer, becoming one of the year’s biggest box office hits! Let’s see if they can do it again! Taping began this week and the movie is said to come out on May 28, 2010.

Sarah Jessica Parker & Kim Cattrall

Rumors are swirling once again that Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker are not getting along. The stars are readying production on the sequel to the 2008 hit Sex and the City movie, and with Kim’s recent breakup with chef Alan Wyse still raw, reports claim this is causing tension between them.

“Kim has been moping around, feeling sorry for herself and Sarah basi­cally told her to snap out of it and buck up her ideas. Kim didn’t take this too well and there is a very frosty atmosphere between the girls right now. They only speak to each other when absolutely neces­sary. The film producers are hoping this row doesn’t escalate and threaten the entire movie,” says the Metro

And then Kim passed a note to Sarah that said “you smell” and Sarah made the “whatever” sign back while giggling with Cynthia Nixon.

I hope these ladies can get it together! Did you guys like the Sex and the City Movie? I wonder what the sequel will be about!  Btw, I looovved Carrie’s closet in the movie, that is seriously my DREAM closet =)

I’m realizing I’m SO an emotional cutter. In case you haven’t seen Sex and the City (the movie), it’s a term coined by SJP’s character, Carrie Bradshaw, who after getting jilted on her would-be wedding day, reads and rereads a Vogue article featuring her bridal photoshoot.

Only in my case, I’m not so much plagued by relationship failure. In fact, so many things with O have been left open-ended and unresolved that I’m actually forcing myself to feel the wounds of potential heartache.

Man, am I messed up or what? Wait, don’t answer that!

Holding my breath hasn’t worked….
Replaying meaningful conversations in my head hasn’t worked….
Pretending that we are already past this decision-maiking part hasn’t worked….

And to be honest, although I’m actually being pursued by two other guys, I’ve not really been open-hearted to the one I’d really consider a potential-anything. So forcing myself to move on hasn’t worked.

My former post Leftovers was really about dealing with O’s ex, and now here I am actually considering what kind of impact this pseudo-relationship might have on the next guy in my life.

I guess I’m looking for some distraction, some fun, some light-hearted escape. (Vegas, here I come!) I’ve warned the only serious contender of my dilemma and he’s cool. I think he’s hoping that once he’s around permanently (he’s currently in the process of moving to my area) that all this will be sorted and behind me.

The other guy is a childhood friend reeling from his own drawn-out breakup (read: divorce) and has, in my opinion, looked over the landscape of friends and acquaintances and realized since we’re both single, it must be fate. (As if.) He’ll always be part of my childhood and for that reason alone, I’ll let him lean on me a bit before making sure he understands it’s not going anywhere beyond our friendship.

Why is this post titled, ‘Just?’

It’s what I hear in my head when I give myself advice:

Just let go.
Just move on.
Just be patient.
Just give it time.
Just give yourself some space.
Just let God work out the details.

I’m kinda sick of the word JUST.

And the simplicity it promises but seldom delivers.

Greasy Constantine may have a Tony Nomination on his resume, but it doesn’t mean much when people who are not even familiar with you or your work always get the exact same first impression upon meeting you.

Constantine Maroulis, you’re a douchebag.

An intern blogging about their experiences working at a talent/PR agency in NY had some choice words about the infamous American Idol alumni.

On a lighter note, Constantine, former contestant from American Idol and currently staring in. Broadway’s Rock of Ages as the lead, came through Abrams today. Apparently he’s more disliked than anything else. He came in to record a Verizon commercial VO.

A voiceover for a Verizon commercial? What? Is James Earl Jones no longer under contract? Is James Earl Jones…is he okay? Oh please, if James Earl Jones is the next iconic figure to drop dead and become a big Trending Topic on Twitter, I don’t know what I will do.

Anyway, apparently Verizon was not informed of the Constantine Maroulis Meltdown at a Cingular store from a few years back. It remains documented in all its beautiful hilarity on Defamer.

I had a great sighting of Constantine Maroulis (you know, Bo Bice s inferior from last years American Idol) at the Cingular store on Beverly near the Beverly Center just three hours ago. As you may or may not know, that Cingular store makes you sign in when you walk through the door and wait for someone to call your name. I was in the process of waiting for my name to be called when a guy walked in that looked just like Constantine. He had the long, unwashed brown hair, was carefully unshaven and was wearing those big rocker sunglasses. Of course, that describes about half the guys in LA. He looked so much like Constantine that I figured it couldn t possibly be him, so I ignored him. Well, he didn t sign in. He just went and got behind someone else in line. After standing there and looking like a kick ass rocker for about 5 minutes, the Cingular Guy (who was still working with a customer) asks Rocker Guy, Can I help you, sir? After wiping the dumb look off his face, Rocker Guy retorts, I m waiting for help, incredulous at the question. And the Cingular Guy patiently, without attitude, said, Oh, you need to sign in at the front and we ll call you. Well, Rocker Guy looked like someone told him to go fuck himself in Chinese (you know, confused and angry at the same time). He says, What?! The Cingular Guy repeats himself. Sign in at the front door and we ll call your name. Now Rocker Guy just looks perplexed (maybe if he took his sunglasses off inside he d be able to see and comprehend things better). Rocker Guy: What else did you say? Cingular Guy: Nothing, sir. Now, I’m ten feet away. The guy didn t say anything besides the above and was not being snide or snarky. Instead, he was trying to be helpful. Well, Rocker Guy loses it. He points at Cingular Guy, over the customer being helped and says, Don t you fucking condescend to me! You’re the one that fucking works at Cingular! No exaggeration. And he says condescend just like Brad Pitt did in True Romance with like three extra vowels and two extra n s. It was hilarious and everyone in the store saw it. Of course, after that craziness, you expect him to storm out. But, no! He goes and signs his name and waits. I figured he would have been tossed for dropping the F-bomb alone, but no one says or does anything. I just tried not to crack up. After the outburst, though, I’m positive its not Constantine. No one remotely in the public eye would make that much as of an ass of himself over something so stupid. Not two minutes later, though, Rocker Guy takes off his sunglasses and reveals himself to be, yes, THE Constantine.

Isn’t it incredible this guy still gets work? Or has a handful of fans?

One of the Greaseman’s recent Tweets is a bit curious, and disturbing. It may vaguely allude to something about uh…the sequel to the Sex and the City movie? (Granted, I hated most of the movie. It didn’t even compare to the show and was essentially a montage of designer goods and lacked much of the humor and heart of the series…I guess that’s a good way to sum it up in a sentence, perhaps.)

I doubt Constantine Maroulis would even be allowed near the set of Sex and the City. Of course, this has sent his rabid fans into a speculative tizzy on what he may be doing in the film.

Yeah, uh, um…I don’t think Constantine Maroulis would be cast as the heir apparent to Smith Jerrod, do you? Kim Cattrell’s Samantha Jones may have scrwed her share of men, but even she had standards. Hell, even in Stanford Blatch’s loneliest gay bachelor days, he wouldn’t have even tapped that greasy cesspool.

The also wonder if he may be doing a song for the movie. Uh…have you heard the guy sing? He sucks. And they already have Jennifer Hudson as a go-to girl.

I would think this might be a really good possibility.

But if that’s not it, maybe the SATC girls will see the show in the movie?

And for the record, if they were by chance to hook up Samantha & Constantine (I’m just wishful thinking), I think I would just squee myself to death with delight. LOL

Squee yourself to death with delight, huh? I certainly don’t think Kim Cattrell would have the same sentiments.

Definitely, a harder shoe to dress because there is  a lot going on and you don’t want to overdo it or look dominatrixy (if that’s not your area of work-if it is, more power to you!).  When it comes to dressing a bondage shoe, there are a couple schools of thought: you either need to commit to the theme or go completely opposite. Check out what I mean:

So when in doubt what is a girl to do? First of all, don’t be in “doubt” if your wearing a bondage style shoe because the shoe is meant to be worn with extraordinary confidence- like all heels but especially these. So if you are in doubt- not sure if the outfit goes together or not, take a picture of it on your (use the timer on your camera, clueless style!), look at it and make the call- go with your instinct.  If you are still not sure, put the pic on twitpic and ask your followers what they think- take everything with a grain of salt because you should always just go with you gut on the outfit. Then once you’ve decided what to wear, own it- wear it like you were born to wear it -like the badass bondage chick you are.   That’s my advice.  In essence don’t worry to much about it because shoes aren’t meant to be too serious anyway- they’re meant to be fun.

Marco, who handles our logistics and customer service, keenly observed that this was the naked guy in the shower from the Sex and the City movie.  Good call Marco.  He’s Gilles Marini and is on Dancing with the Stars as well and has been on a host of TV shows including, Ugly Betty, Dirty Sexy Money, Criminal Minds, Windfall,  The Bold and the Beautiful and Passions.  He loved the Vanquish in Black Silver Kid Crystal.

Dating can be hard; dating on an island can be a nightmare. So accepting a set-up by friends can be as frightening as a Jaclyn Smith outfit at Kmart. As I walked to the waterfront bar where the meeting was to occur, I passed a guy. I had a brief thought of “damn why can’t that be him.” My cell phone rang seconds later and it WAS the pass-by arranging our meeting spot. He was charming, funny and had a great crooked smile that was like seeing a new pair Michael Kors’ boots. He had seemed a little “too good on paper” and I considered this our first and last meeting. I was shocked when he asked me to dinner the next night and followed through. How could a serious businessman be interested in a social worker in Betsy Johnson wedges?

But that is the way life goes and the next thing you know, this shoe girl was meeting his friends and inviting him to her regular bar. He sent cute text messages, complimented my shoes, and even offered to watch Sex and the City the Movie. To add to his appeal, he told me that he never wanted to get married, which was good news to me because I canceled my mandatory subscription to Bride Magazine years ago. I helped him buy new sheets, watched football and wore the smallest swimsuit I owned in a very cold hot tub. For the first time in a long time I actually liked the little thing that had started. I don’t date anyone. I don’t like to share the sofa. I don’t like feeling the obligation to call or text at the end of the night. Yet, I was doing it. Looking back, I disgust myself and can only blame me for going against my normal avoidance of these things.

Maybe if I had not been distracted by the office and shopping I would have kept my guard up and not ended up on the receiving end of one the most insulting and strangest breakup scenes. After a romantic dinner at a small restaurant we held hands as we walked back to his house. He then handed over a bag containing a beautiful pair of Dolce Vita’s I had been drooling over and which I had shown him only 48 hours before. He totally messed up the size but in my giddiness and the mental planning of how I would sleep in them that night I did not even care. Giving me shoes is pretty much the equivalent of giving me GHB; I am putty in your hands. It was a like a lost scene from Pretty Woman.

I was too high on the pedestal to see what was coming next. It’s been real, it’s been fun, please show yourself to the door. Timber! Move aside—girl in brand new heels falling flat on her face. He actually used the phrase ‘soul mate’, as in how we were NOT soul mates. What? This was a soul mate thing? The only soul mate talk I like refers to the kind of sole mates that have matching Prada stamps on them. And how can he possibly know if I am any kind of mate considering I took more time picking out shoes for my brother’s wedding than dating him! He then threw a dirty one at me, “You’re the kind of girl you marry.” Sucker Punch. Pulling together the best do-not-slap-him or cry-in-front-of-him moment in history, I made the hurt-filled walk out of his house, leaving the shoes. (Hold on! I will explain this in moment.)

In the time since, I have tried to figure out where my casual fling went wrong and why does it bother me so much. I never parked my shoes in his closet, as I am a firm believer in keeping my stuff in my space and his stuff in his space. He initiated a lot of the relationship milestones and shared about his divorce without any prying from me. I was honest with him that I was unable to see wedding bells in my future. I may be the only female in the world over the age of 8 who does not plan and re-plan a mental wedding. I like being single and have no plans to walk down any aisle except the shoe aisle.

As I ease the pain and confusion in my usual manner of shopping, shopping, and more shopping, my record-breaking three designer handbags in one month has not made me forget his name or other things. I cannot help but wonder if the time I spent with him was the real him or was that last night the real him. Somehow the guy I dated for weeks seemed to disappear in a moment somewhere between putting shoes on and taking them off; a new guy sat in his place—and he seemed to have no clue who I was.

I am a card-carrying member of the Commitment Fearful Women of America Club. I have a re-occurring nightmare where I am at my wedding reception and when asked “how excited I am” I say I think I made a big mistake. I just do not have the bride gene. That gene has been replaced with the double shoe gene. It’s a very rare condition, watch for a journal article someday on this.

So why did “my let’s just take it slow and watch where it goes” attitude get misread as a mail order bride in hiding? Is it really that hard for men to believe that there might be women out there who only want to date them and not set a wedding date? Am I that big of a freak of nature that it cannot be comprehended that I am not waiting for a rescue by Prince Charming but instead prefer to pay my own way in life. In the big picture of life does every diamond ring have to be on the left hand or can my right hand be a symbol that I am happy simply being someone’s partner not his everything. Just because I have ovaries does not mean I have a biological clock ticking- who said a kid would go with any of those 3 new bags!

As I replay that night in my head, there are some things I could have said or done differently. I am not sure it would make a difference. If the guy who ventured shoe shopping for me can, less than 24 hours later, decide I am not worth his company, I am not sure he can explain how it ended as it did. I wrestle with the idea that he was all an act, some sort of dating mirage or that he lost his mind somewhere in that shoe box. Regardless, it’s done and those shoes may still very well be sitting in his closet as a silent memorial to this Island Shoe Girl.

I have since thought of a few other places I could have put them that make me smile a little. As much as I loved those shoes for that brief moment I had them on, that is all it was and to keep them would have be an insult to the woman I am. As much as I may have liked him for those brief weeks, that appears to be all it was. If he cannot see the ‘me’ that I see, then I am better off without him… and the shoes.

Some one please tell me WHY I am so addicted to this movie.  It has been running on HBO a lot for the past week or so, and everytime I see it on I have to watch it.  Its seriously like a sickness.  I personally dont belive the movie is as good as the series (I’m a sucker for it) but its entertaining enough. 

Make me stop.
