Weekend Recap!

Oh I love the weekends. The freedom. The silly antics. The endless nights. The extraordinary shopping.

On Saturday, this wonderful lady named Zoe gave me the honor of taking her shopping with me once again. I must say that she is the best shopping partner I’ve ever come across. I love her.

We chose to take on the challenge of scouting the enormous Galleria for men’s clothes, vintage wear, and accessories. While it was no small feat, we succeeded.

Story: At Urban Outfitters we encountered a creeper. Zoe and I were in the men’s section talking about what kind of t-shirt Ch****, Zoe’s friend, would like for Christmas. Well, this tall man in a mysterious, black windbreaker comes up behind us and says: “Yeah, I’m a teacher, let me help you” in a very come-hither voice.
Though we didn’t ask for his opinion, we welcomed this stranger’s help… until he began to ask us what kind of teacher we liked.
We didn’t even know why this madman spoke to us about teachers in the first place, so we asked him if he was one.
“Maybe I am… what do you want to learn?” He replied.
We fake-laughed and tried to get away. But he followed us.
We decided to escape over to the girl’s section, where we thought we were safe, but he followed us again. Each time I looked up… his goo-goo eyes were glued to mine. Ewie.
Finally, we left the store and escaped Mr. Madman. But then I saw him in the food court again. o.O

I felt so lazy this morning. I slept in until approximately 10:30 A.M., then lay there like a corpse until 11. It was joyous, really. I wanted something different for breakfast, something to break the routine! So I toasted two slices of hemp bread, spread them with Maranatha creamy peanut butter, made me some scrambled eggs, pulled out a mini Babybel cheese, and poured some soy milk into a glass. NOTHING was measured.

I can not even begin to explain to you how happy I am at the moment. To not count, to be so free, so spontaneous is incredible. As I get closer and closer to being recovered, I realize how good I had it before ED came into my life. I will never take liberty for granted again. The right to eat and do what one wants is something to be cherished and honored. There should be a holiday dedicated to our freedom as human beings. How about every day?

My brother and I agreed to take those “fashion model” photographs of me in my new clothes. We were both awfully bored and had nothing to do so we set up this little project, which took close to all day. Luckily, my photographer gave me a lunch/Frito break:I love my Fritos.

I almost did a repeat of yesterday’s delicious lunch but as I looked into my refrigerator for some grub, I received a text message from a man who loves spicy food. Then, I just couldn’t resist some wings.My half-eaten lunch: Boca buffalo wings, carrots & hummus, and… Fritos. Duh!

Yesterday’s lunch:Apple, Sweet Potato, and Leek Gratin. Glorious.

Well, loves, I am dead tired. I have been glued to the computer all day long thanks to Photoshop, so my head is just throbbing. Send me some Tylenol?

Lo que no es inusual es que siendo el que soy, no acabara dedicandole un articulo a ese gran icono de la musica sordida que es Tom Jones, que tantos momentos de sumo placer y diversión me ha dado en mis noches de pedo historico, a la par que grandes ataques de vergüenza ajena a los sosos que me miraban.

Pero todo es una cuestión de valores, yo personalmente prefiero bailar en mitad de la plaza Moyua con tanga de leopardo cualquier canción del tigre de Gales (con mayuscula, es una nación, que lo sepais) antes que ser sorprendido tarareando alguna de OT.

Claro que tambien entiendo que soy sordido y no todo el mundo esta preparado para eso.

Pero centremonos en el personaje:

Sir Thomas Jones Woodward (si, es Sir desde el 2006) nacio en Cardiff, capital de la nación galesa (si algo aprendí en el Reino Unido es como se lleva el nacionalismo bien entendido y sin complejos) en el verano de 1940, en plena batalla de Inglaterra y supongo que el pasar por un chetto con tantas bombas cayendo debio marcarle bastante, y no me mireis así, es una explicación tan buena como cualquier otra.

¿Que era hijo de mineros?

Tambien lo era Zoolander.

Así, nuestro pequeño amigo que ya hizo la comunión con pelo en el pecho (los hay que nacen con bigote ya), descubrió muy pronto su vocación por la marcha , tanto musical como de otros tipos y era muy solicitado en el coro local así como en comuniones y bodas donde amenizaba a los invitados con con su metro treinta de estatura, su clara voz angelical de Constantino Romero y su tendencia a ventilarse el Whisky y ostiar a los que llevaban las arras.

El chiquitín ya apuntaba maneras, maneras a las que estaban llamados otros grandes como George Best, pero eso es otra historia.

Su carrera musical propiamente dicha comenzó alla por el año 1963, cuando la mayoria de nosotros no eramos mas que unos espermatozoides felices que saltaban de un huevo a otro, como vocalista de  ”Tommy Scott & the senators”, un grupo que alcanzó gran popularidad en su barrio y tres estancos a la redonda, hoy dia se habria hecho cantante de Death metal.  Tras la disolución del grupo y varios meses intentando convencer discograficas y haciando bolos en clubes sin mucho exito, el productor Gordon Mills le vio su potencial y se lo llevo a Londres.

Estaba naciendo el tigre de Gales.

Despues de lanzar un primer disco (Chills and fever) que no tuvo mucho exito, el gran Tom publicó en 1965, el que seria verdaderamente su album de presentación al mundo y que contenia el single que le haria famoso forever and ever: It´s not unusual.

¿Que me decis de las pintas? Parece un cruce entre el capitan Kirk y Curro Jimenez, algo así solo podia ocurrir en los 60.

Ya en este single se podia apreciar en toda magnitud las caracteristicas que lo hacian unico: Su tremendo chorro de voz, su tecnica para dominarlo y sobre todo ese aire de chulazo macarrón que volveria locas a las feminas del Reino unido y dependencias de ultramar.

Sin lugar a dudas fué uno de los notables de los 60, llegando a ponerle banda sonora a las peliculas del momento como “Operación Trueno” (y no estoy seguro de que el titulo de la peli no fuera por el) y la que no se puede sino calificar como la peli de la decada: “What´s new, pussicat”.

Pelicula que recomiendo encarecidamente, es el espiritu de toda una decada y una revolución, amén de muy divertida. Por otro lado si os fijais bien en el personaje de Peter Sellers quiza podais encontrar en quien se basó Mike Myers para crear cierto agente secreto:

El personaje de Austin Powers es un cruce entre James Bond y el psiquiatra de “What´s new pussycat”.

¿ Y cual es el punto de conexión entre estos dos?

Tom Jones.

Hablando de su estilo musical he oido de todo, desde cantante melodico, pop, e incluso rock, no creo que se le pueda encasillar en ningún genero determinado, demasiado cañero para ser melodico, demasiado canalla para ser pop, demasiado pastelón para ser rock, demasiado blanco para ser negro, quiza su genero musical sea precisamente “demasiado”.

Hay quien dice que es una oda a los malos tratos, yo no la veo por ninguna parte, pero bueno, suele decirlo el mismo tipo de vengadores del pasado que dice que Ghandi era un machista que pegaba a su mujer (y no es coña, hasta se sacó un libro sobre el tema).

En este blog hay un apartado para ellos, se llama el rincón del gilipollas.

En el apartado personal, pese a haberse casado bastante joven, el amigo Tom, quiza para no defraudar su fama, fue todo un pichabrava, contando con alguna que otra Miss Universo en su haber (aunque el autentico experto de la epoca en eso era George Best).

Los años 70 y 80 no le fueron tan bien a Tom, su rollo no estaba tan de moda y vivió esas dos decadas saltando entre shows en Las Vegas y platós de variedades (aunque tuvo su propio programa, “This is Tom Jones” y sacó varios discos), el ultimo mazazo se lo llevó en 1986 con la muerte de su productor y amigo Gordon Mills, pero lejos de amilanarse (era demasiado machote para ello) y con ayuda de su hijo Mark , que se convirtió en su nuevo productor, se decidió a relanzarse al estrellato en 1987 con canciones como “A boy from Nowhere” y sobre todo con una gloriosa versión, junto con Art of noise, de la canción de Prince “Kiss”:

Estos dos singles, con la actualización de su rollito que suponian, fueron su puerta grande de entrada a los 90, decada que llenaria de su epica sordidez tras firmar con Interscope Records, con los que hara grandes hitos como sus albumes “The lead a how to swing it” o “Reload”, siendo la estrella de la BSO de “Full Monty” o haciendo grandes videos con The Cardigans:

Durante la misma decada tambien se prodiga por la pantalla con apariciones estelares en “El principe de Bel Air” donde es el Obi Wan de Carlton (ahí le conocí yo) y salvando al mundo de la invasión marciana en “Mars Attacks”, no colocaré estos videos por ser demasiado conocidos.

Y ahí  sigue, dando candela a su peculiar estilo, demostrando que la edad no pasa para los machotes.

Lo que no me explico es como siendo una de las referencias de las que mas orgulloso se siente Tim Burton (“se me ocurrio meter a Tom Jones en Mars Attacks, porque de haber una persona idonea para salvar el mundo, ese seria el”), no se ha convertido automaticamente en un idolo gotico y no la pavisosa de Cristhina Ricci.

Pas besoin d’être une bombe pour être sexy. Pas besoin de ressembler à un top, de rentrer le ventre, de se faire liposucer. Pas besoin d’être à poil, jupe ras la salle de sport, décolleté jusqu’aux amygdales, pas besoin de rimer avec vulgarité.

Chez certaines c’est carrément écrit dans leurs gènes. Elles bougent sexy, parlent sexy. La sensualité transpire dans chaque rire, les mecs s’évanouissent à chaque bouffée de parfum. Elles ont les yeux qui sentent le sexe. Elles disent « bonjour » ils entendent « tu me fais l’amour beau gosse ? ». Elles ne calculent même pas. Elles sont. Elles sont surtout mes héroïnes. J’envie leur naturel.

Alors voilà pour marcher dans les pas de mes idoles je me suis fait une petite check list pour bosser cet été mon sex appeal.

1-Le regard de braise = checked
Ca fait 3 semaines que je suis dessus, à zieuter au dessus / au dessous de mes lunettes noires. 3 semaines à faire de la rééducation orthoptique, à loucher, à papillonner. J’ai du faire un trait sur le regard de braise version smocky eyes, j’avais l’air d’un panda avec des moucherons dans les yeux. On m’a demandé 1000 fois si j’avais du sable dans les yeux, si je voulais du collyre, si mes lentilles étaient neuves. J’ai testé le regard sévère, le regard naïf, le regard tendre, et on m’a pris respectivement pour une dominatrice, une quiche et une guimauve. Mais ça y est je le tiens, le regard furtif, semi oblique latéral gauche. Le regard qui tue. Je le tiens, je suis prête à le dégainer à chaque polaroïd. Je l’ai testé sur quelques cobayes consentant, allumage des machines garanti, plus fort que le starter, plus soft que l’attaque directe…

2-l’acte manqué vestimentaire = checked
Il n’a pas été facile à maitriser celui là. Mais je ne suis pas peu fière d’être enfin au point. Car l’art de la bretelle qui glisse sensuellement quand on se baisse pour dire bonjour, et la main qui glisse lentement sur l’épaule pour la remonter c’est un art. La jupe qui remonte un peu trop haut en croisant les jambes, lisser ni trop vite ni trop lentement par une main qui glisse sur la soie, c’est beaucoup plus compliqué qu’on le croit. On a si vite fait se retrouver dans une posture gênante version godiche gloussante : « oups ma bretelle glisse quand je transpire ». Pas glop !

3-Le rire de gorge = même pas en rêve
Je connais enfin mes limites. Pas moyen d’avoir un rire sexy quand on a une voix qui implose dans les aigues Oubliez la bouche humide, quand on chante comme une porte qui grince. Moi je tire la langue quand je me concentre, front plissé en sus. Je glousse plus que je ne ris, et explose de rire plus souvent qu’à mon tour. Apres tout avec un peu de chance homme qui rit aussi finira peut être dans mon lit.

4-Hips don’t lie = trop vieille pour ces conneries
Non pas que je ne sois pas souple de la hanche, j’ondule encore pas mal pour mon âge. Mais l’exploits ondulatoire extrêmes des Shakiras ou Beyoncé, je renonce. J’admire de loin les femmes qui parlent aussi clairement avec leurs hanches. Celles dont les déhanchements fascinent, dont les ondulations hypnotisent. Il faut se résigner, on ne boxera jamais dans la même catégorie, c’est mon kiné qui me l’a dit.

N’y voyez pas un signe de faiblesse mais je me résigne doucement, pas après pas. Impossible de tout garder en tête à chaque rencart, au risque de passer pour une dinde sans cervelle. Pour les basics c’est comme les arts martiaux, il faut que ça devienne un reflexe pour être efficace. Dès qu’on voit le mouvement, la cible n’est plus dupe. Ensuite le plus drôle reste encore d’improviser.

Et pas besoin d’être sophistiquée pour gagner la cocarde de la femme sexy de l’année. Un jour un homme m’a dit qu’une femme sexy était une femme qui ne voulait pas quitter son odeur et se glissait avec délice dans son tee-shirt à lui. Pour d’autres, il suffira de voir leur douce armée d’un tourne visse pour sentir le sang quitter leur cerveau. Et heureusement pour nous la liste semble inépuisable.

Les hommes sont des êtres étranges la plupart du temps. Mais leur capacité à nous trouver sexy quand on s’y attend le moins est une arme redoutable, car ils nous forcent petit à petit à nous aimer un peu, et surtout à nous aimer 100% brut de décoffrage.
