I recalled with I was taken advantage of…back then they didn’t kill you.  Well, they sort of did.  They killed you alright…but you were like  the walking dead.  They stole something from you…you didn’t know what or even that they had stole it.   But you knew something was wrong with it. 

So, you just never told anybody.  Never whispered a word…just kind of  hid it down deep inside…if  you could.  And if  you couldn’t…then those kids became problem kids…some even predators preying upon other kids.

The life of  a child can be hard…and particularly so when viewed as a sex object…something to fill someone’s sick preverted fantasy or sexual obsession.

Upon just coming up onto the internet this evening  I have read and watched video about  2 very young girls… both of  them age 5.   One white and one half and half…mixed…half white and half black.  And both of  them were sexual violated and then murdered.

Two very beautiful young children…and their lives were destroyed at the tender age of 5.   Forced into acts that no child should have to endure…or be forced to become party to. 

One buried alive and the other the autopsy is forthcoming.

How dare anyone steal their lives from them.

How dare someone rob them of  becoming teenagers…going off to college…and hanging out at a movie with friends.

How dare somebody steal their womanhood from…their motherhood…their promise…and now has robbed us all of  them and what they might have achieved.

I have no doubt that they both suffered traumatically.  People who kill people suffer from a deep sense of  needing to feel powerful.  Can you imagine being mentally that small that children give them a sense  of  power when taking their life.

Then there are those who kill children just so that no one is there to tell the story…as to what and who did what to them.   What cowards they are.

They are man enough to do it…but not man enough to stand up for having done it.  So, they kill the victim…they murder the innocent child…the woman or whoever.  And they set out  doing  it…again and again…and again until they slip up and somehow get caught.

They are like the bank robbers of  old…who kept on robbing banks until they got caught.  Went to jail…got out…and sooner or later went right back to robbing banks…until they caught again…or shot down.

Does alerting neighborhoods that there is a sexual predator in their neighborhood really work?

I think not.

Do most of  these men go back out and start seeking children all over again?

Yes.

Paedophiles and sexual deviants clutter most neighborhoods.  The only problem is…is that most of  them are never caught.  Because most children don’t tell.  And a lot of  women who get raped don’t either.

Then there is this other factor… a lot of  them look like your husband…and/or brother.   In fact, they are your husband…and/or brother.  Most men have had sex with somebody who was not of  legal  or consenting age.

I have a friend who often during some of our conversations has laughed to me about how while in college he had had sex with a 14 year old girl we both knew.  And for the life of me I have always wondered why he thought it was so funny? 

And why would anybody want to laugh about such a thing?

There are certain things if  I were guilty of  them…I would not talk about them.

It’s illegal!

Having sex with children is illegal in this country.   And in most countries.

Outside of  it being taboo…what could possibly be interesting about having sex with a  5 year old child…or a 3 year old…or any child…or teenager?    And in South Africa…they have wide spread incidences of  men having sex with infants.   Yes, INFANTS…claiming that it is because they have a fear contracting AIDS by having sex with women.

This whole topic is really more than I can bare.  I guess because it hits so close to home.  I had not only been sexually molested as child…twice…and before I reached 4th grade…but I came very narrowly close to being gang raped by a group of maybe 20 if not more men…had not it been for the grace of  God.

I spent my life from that point on…until I was in my mid-20’s abstaining from sex.   There were those who asked me…and there were those who tried to force me.  But I said ‘no’…and I resisted where I had to.

But I never allowed anyone ever again to take advantage of me…or to use me again like that.

When I had those experiences I was too young to even know what was happening to me.   I knew nothing about sex…or sexual intercourse.   I had never seen it…the act before…or anyone indulging in it.   So, it was very foreign to me.  I could not wrap my little mind around it…much less even know that it was wrong. 

Though my abusers were not violent towards me…they did steal my innocense.    But they steal more than innocense today.  They bully, beat, violate and then butcher the child.

I had read many years ago in a book or a publication of  some sort…that 3/4  young girls experience some type of  sexual abuse.  And that  a quarter of  the  men have been propositioned by another male or experienced anal sex. 

Since so many men…particularly black go into the prison system today…that figure is probably far higher now.  Because a lot of men today also indulge more freely in what they call ‘man love.’   Some openly while many others on the DL…the down low.  And the same can be said for more women today…in terms of  lesbian hookups…getting themselves a girlfriend.  It seems to be the rage (the new in-thing).

There seems to be a growing obession with sex…and deviant sexual behavior…and violent deviant sexual behaviors.

It has become a growing practice for sexual offenders to ’snuff  people out’…killing them while engaged in sex or following it.

Those 2 little girls looked so innocent and so beautiful.

How could a mother sell her child out as prostitute?

Her little 5 year old daughter…her own flesh and blood?

Can there be that much hate…and bitterness in anyone?

Yes…sadly, yes.

I am sicken by all these things.  And whether you believe it or not…it is a spirit…very  very dark spirits sweeping across America.  And I guess the world.

And I was going to talk about Obama and the detainees being imported to the main land…USA.  Which I think might be a big mistake.  But I guess I will discuss that in another blog.

But let me just point out real quick…that the errors committed by the Bush Administration in the handling of those prisoners…in that  many of  them were just swept up and secretly flow out from their homes, family  and country.  Some who were innocent of  any crime.  But now all violently anti-America…and Americans.  And who would not be after what they have all had to endure in Quantanamo Bay?

The past treatment of  those prisoners makes them high security risk and threats upon American soil.  The bitter taste put into their mouths via the Bush Administration can’t be turned around by any acts of  kindness.  And particularly not among people who willing do not mind killing themselves to kill you.

So, no they are too dangerous to be brought into this country.  America has many other options…and  we should  be considered.  Because those people for the most part will have to be locked away for life.  Because they will pose too great of  threat…in terms of  them trying to  get  revenge  for any  and all preceived wrongs that were brought about when they were initially imprisoned.  And of course…due also to their gross treatment under the past administration.

Lets face it…I doubt that few of  them are  not bitter over the situation.  And I would be too…and so wouldn’t you.

Now, heed well my words: until such time as they are free to push homoerotic material in every ad, every magazine, on every bus, street sign, and TV channel, queers are going to continue complaining about “homophobia.” They have only gotten started in their campaign to destroy the sexual mores of our society. You ain’t seen nothing yet.

Accusations of “homophobia” are not about promoting the so-called “rights” of an “oppressed minority,” they are about depriving normal straight people of the right to raise a family in an environment in which their children aren’t being continually exposed to the homosexual death culture (as per the Don Feder quote above, the homosexual counterculture is, quite literally, a death culture, since it in essence encourages people to not have children; and that’s to say nothing of AIDS and other diseases to which homosexual men are disproportionately subject due to their unhealthy lifestyles and sexual practices).

Note the progression thus far: in only a few decades, the homosexual movement has gone from such seemingly (to some people) reasonable demands as not having queer bars shut down by police, to now insisting, at threat of boycott, to having “the right” to publicly display homoerotic material anywhere they wish (and sometimes, to even engage in homosexual intercourse in public). It’s only going to get worse, folks. Much, much worse.**

There is no way that our heterosexual culture can peaceably coexist with a militant homosexual counterculture. Make no mistake: Incidents like these are a declaration of war against the heterosexual majority.

My advice is that straight people stop allowing themselves to be bullied by accusations of “homophobia” and start standing up for themselves by telling these militant queers to f*ck off. Queers want to boycott Amazon (see story here) and Facebook? Fine. Straights should do the same. Send emails to Facebook and Amazon informing them you’ll refuse to use their sites and services if they cave in to pressure from the homosexual lobby and allow homoerotic material to be displayed. It’s time to stop pussyfooting with these deviants and start hitting back. There’s a lot more of us out there than there are queers; if only we could get more organized…

And to the Christian wimps who say things like “hate the sin, not the sinner,” you’re not going to have your cake and eat it too. The only way to defeat the homosexual lobby is through hatred and intolerance. There is no other way. When it becomes unsafe for queers to walk down the street holding hands, or to otherwise publicly announce their sexual preference, that’s when we’ll have them off our backs. Until such time, you can expect the demands of the homosexual lobby to become increasingly strident and outlandish.

Let me repeat that this is a war, not a misunderstanding of some kind that can be politely worked out over tea and crumpets. The queers know perfectly well what they are doing and the ramifications of what they’re doing. This is a war, and as such, your options are either to stand up and fight, or drop your weapons, roll over, and let the homos sodomize your corpse.

Hopefully future generations will look back on this putrid, degenerate sewer of an era of ours and fully appreciate what the consequences are of allowing queers out of the closet, and thus avoid repeating our mistake.

* Yes, I know Mr. Feder is Jewish, and that I don’t always have the kindest things to say about Jews, but truth is truth no matter who expresses it. At least Mr. Feder isn’t like the Jew Ezra Levant, who is trying to sell conservatives on the idea of homosexual marriage.

** To get an idea of what homosexuals see all of this leading to, see the 2004 movie A Dirty Shame by homosexual filmmaker John Waters.

Darren Aronofsky, what exactly is problem? No, seriously. I’d like to know. Why is it you seem to revel most in seeing that your characters reach the nadir of their despair and then insist they ask for more? There is a running theme in this film that Rourke’s character is a gluton for punishment, in a similar sense to Jesus in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, but really this analogy is more accurate when applied to the director and his audience- with Aronofsky unrelentingly flailing us with a glass-encrusted whip and expecting us to enjoy it and thank him for his pains. Well, I for one, did not. I choose life.

I’m not sure what deeply depressive sort of person you have to be in order to enjoy this film, but clearly Aronofsky has some messed up expectations. Either that or he has misinterpreted our desire to see fatties and sexual deviants disgraced and persecuted on reality tv for a desire to see ‘performance’ wrestlers enact their sadomasochistic fantasies upon each other. But the key difference is that there is always the promise of change or redemption for thee prime-time sacrificial lambs. Ramjam (Rourke) is, of-course, offered a second chance but doesn’t take it. And anyone who knows me knows full-well the utter contempt that I reserve for cop-outs, self-saboteurs and those who play the victim.

And, maybe, I could forgive Aronofsky for presenting us with such a needlessly bleak narrative and a wholly unsympathetic protagonist – were he to at least do so with sufficient stylistic flair. Like in Requiem for a Dream. But here, in The Wrestler, we spend virtually the whole film staring at Rourke’s back in a quasi-documentary style that even Michael Moore would be ashamed to run with these days.

Overall, The Wrestler is an unmitigated waste of time. Avoid it at all costs. Unless, perchance, your life is so pathetic and hollow that the prospect of spending two hours rolling around in the self-created filth of another complete loser’s life may actually make you feel better by comparison. In which case, just kill yourself – it won’t take as long.

Though I wondered about what prompted Oprah to decide to open a school in

South Africa…thinking one here would have been nice.  Though we do have Spellman.  But a media school…to bring young ladies in the world of television and film that would really be wonderful. 

But then all the ugly little stories about that school in South Africa started surfacing.  First, it was about a teacher or some female administrator who was there who was alleged to be preying upon the young girl students of the school…of which the school is an all girl’s school.

Now, recent stories have it that other girls of the school are preying upon and bullying their fellow schoolmates.

If  the devil can get into something…he will.

One looking or reading about this from a Biblical perspective might say that-

“The spirit of lesbianism has crept into Oprah’s school.”

” What is that?”

Perhaps you don’t believe in such things. In your realm spirits or such are fake and do not exist. Okay…maybe not. Least ways…maybe, not in your realm.  But in other places they do.

How did such a thing come about?

Some might say it was sexual orientation.

Maybe. I do not know.

Maybe, there was an older woman…such as the teacher or administrator who was busted and alleged to have been sexually preying upon those young girls.

Maybe there was…maybe she wasn’t.  I do not know.

Maybe, a few of the girls liked it.

Maybe, she, that older woman, turned them out…that is the phrase used in the gay community…when someone goes after someone who is not involved in the life and begins having relations with them…a bond develops between them that puts the other person onto that course for life or for a while during her life.

Supposed she, that woman, had turned out a few of those young girls…and now they in turn…turn and start preying upon some of the other girls.

Or…maybe some of them had that spirit in them already and it has now just started to manifest itself in them…or her…whomever.

Or, maybe they had been doing whatever they were doing all along.

It is hard to believe that any of those young…bright…young ladies that I saw and watched on that Oprah Winfrey special when she opened her school in South Africa could be guilty of becoming sexual predators.  But it does happen.

I have a friend who went to work at an institution which cares for such children.  And I say children…because that is what they are. When she began to tell me their ages and some stories…I had to stop my friend.  There are some things which I cannot even bare to listen to.

It is hard for me to believe that children as young as 3 or 4 have to be separated and locked away from society because they are sexual deviants…who will prey upon anything that lets them…or not.

How could anyone do that to a child?

It is madness.

And I am going to end this blog here.   I do not wish to go any further with it…as I cannot.

The thought sickens me.

Insemination fight ends in wife’s arrest

PITTSFIELD — A woman who allegedly intended to artificially inseminate her wife with her brother’s semen has been charged with domestic assault and battery.

Pittsfield police responded to a call shortly before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the city’s Morningside neighborhood, where the assault allegedly occurred.

Stephanie K. Lighten, 26, was released on personal recognizance after denying the allegations in Central Berkshire District Court Wednesday morning.

Jennifer A. Lighten, 33, told police that Stephanie Lighten, her wife, was “all liquored up” when she returned to their Lincoln Street apartment, where the defendant then allegedly tried to use a syringe to inseminate her, according to a police report.

Jennifer told investigating officers that Stephanie “has been talking about trying to impregnate (her) for some time,” police said.

According to a report by Pittsfield Police Officer Kipp D. Steinman: “Jennifer said that Stephanie had a ‘turkey baster and her brother’s semen in a sealed container.’ Jennifer said she told Stephanie that she didn’t want to get pregnant.” The device was actually a large syringe with a catheter tip, police said, and it was still in its original package when officers confiscated the item.

That’s allegedly when Stephanie threw Jennifer on the couch, grabbed at her clothes and threatened to impregnate her, police said.

Jennifer broke free, ran into the bathroom and locked the door. Stephanie “then broke the bathroom door down,” police said, hurting her wrist in the process.

When Stephanie went to retrieve an ice pack from the freezer, Jennifer bolted from the apartment and attempted to get away in the couple’s sport utility vehicle, police said.

As Jennifer pulled away from the scene, Stephanie “jumped on the side of their vehicle, swung the door open and made (Jennifer) stop,” Steinman said.

According to Officer John Bassi, a witness at the scene claimed Stephanie “was hanging on the SUV door handle, trying to get into the car.” Amber Hunt told Bassi that Stephanie nearly caused an accident when the vehicle narrowly missed hitting a tree in the front yard of Hunt’s Spring Street home.

Police arrested Stephanie Lighten near the intersection of Spring and Curtis streets in Morningside.

Police also confiscated the container of semen and some aluminum foil, which was originally used to hold the semen. Nicholas Lighten, Stephanie Lighten’s brother, was the donor, according to police.

Have been doing a lot of surfing on the Net. Exploring what other people are writing and what they are writing about. And, of course, getting sidetracked into my own personal areas of interest. One of those, perhaps the most basic one of all, is poetry. I essentially got into writing by beginning with poetry, and that will probably remain my first love forever. You know what they say about that first love, you never forget, find yourself daydreaming, remembering, and reliving those moments again and again. You might put it all aside for years, but at some point, it will come swimming back up to the surface, and there you are, once again caught in its embrace, drifting away on a tide of remembered emotions.

I, on the other hand, have been actively engaged in posting poetry on another cite, while writing these prose blogs here. That’s a definite no no in some places. Its been said that the individual who attempts to write both prose and poetry will do a disservice to both.  Its been said so often, that it has become a rule of thumb (unspoken law), for anyone who wants to write seriously and be published. So, why am I breaking that unspoken rule? Aren’t I afraid of going against the proclamation of all those who have gone before me and are obviously far wiser than I am? Yes and no.

I am also aware that a certain number of myths arise in any given discipline. Myths, in this sense, are false ideas based in some aspect of truth, or reality. Language has rules, or it wouldn’t be able to communicate clearly. If those rules are broken, the result is misunderstanding, or worse, gibberish. The rules are there to retain clarity. But, who made the rules? That’s a whole other book long discussion and not a task I want to engage in. Suffice it to say that the rules were made sometime in the past, and most of them were made through trial and error, experience, and so forth. As long as they work and maintain some good levels of clarity, don’t mess with them, right?

However, we, as living breathing organisms, do grow and evolve. So some of those rules no longer apply. If those rules of written language were created back in the days of Thees and Thous, and we no longer speak in that manner, our written language would and should follow suit and it has, thank goodness. But, some of those rules remain as no more than whispers and those whispers become myths.

A good way to know that is to think about what you believe is true of writers in general. Do you believe that all writers have to be a bit crazy to do what they do? Are they heavy drinkers, maybe drug users, or sexual deviants? Will they use anything they come in contact with as something to write about, even you? All of these ideas are myths based in what we know about the most famous writers we have read.

What about all those folks who aren’t famous, yet write every day, either making a living at the craft, or because they simply, personally enjoy engaging in that pastime? They wouldn’t fit into that myth of drunken, or sexual craziness that surrounds others like Earnest Hemingway, Theodore Roethke, or the Beat Poets and writers of another generation. And by the way, these same people were living out another myth about the need to overwhelm the senses with drugs and sex to be able to write anything of value.

I am not saying that myths are out and out falsehoods, they aren’t. They are based in some element of truth or reality. Yes, if you overwhelm your senses, create an altered state, you will write some very interesting and different things from what other people are doing. Even some things of value. However, if you kill yourself in the process, all you do is create ultimate silence and an end to further communication. That’s not the real goal of any writer, be he/she famous or otherwise. Personally, I’m still angry at Anne Sexton for shutting off a magnificent and necessary voice that had so much to teach me.

Yesterday, when I woke up, there were words dancing in my head. So much so, that instead of doing my usual type of journal page, I crossed all the lines and created something in-between poetry and prose. It was a direct result of all that web surfing I’ve been doing. It was a cross-over, a bridge between these two aspects of what I love to do. A blending of both into something separate and different from either one. On one level, it was scary because I had no idea where it was going. On another, it was exciting for the very same reason. Before I could give in to the fear of not being understood, I posted it on the splitting darkness cite, listed here on the sidebar in my blogroll. I titled it, Not My Usual Whatever.

I knew when I did that, that I was breaking that rule about writers who attempt to do both poetry and prose. I’m also aware that others have done the same and some of what they have written is extremely good stuff. That brings me back to my original question: why do it at all? Maybe because all rules eventually become myths? Is that even a possibility? I think it might be because I come here every other day and challenge my reader to do something that he/she might be afraid of doing. I have always believed that I can’t challenge someone else, unless I’m willing to do the work myself. I think I had to prove to myself that I was willing to do just that.

So what are the myths you hold about doing this writing stuff? Do they have to do with what you think you know about us crazy people who do this thing? Is that what holds you back, creates the fear that holds you where you are and away from what you truly want to be or do? Can you cross over those lines and begin something new, something different, something of deep value, not only to yourself, but to anyone who might come across what you have expressed? Are you willing to build a bridge and then dare to put your weight on it?

Crossing over isn’t easy, but it is possible. It is how we grow and let our comfort zone expand to accommodate that growth. And you might be pleasantly surprised at how many hands will be outstretched to help and to greet you. Mine is only one of them.

Words escape me, well, printable words anyway because the list of expletives I have for this nonsense would have someone sending the “foul language police” after me for sure. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service forty eight million people watch birds. We have discovered that certain demographics of Bird Watchers are more sexually active than others.The elderly find that bird watching is not strenuous. And this erotic experience can be enjoyed privately through binoculars. Most disturbing are the groups of bird watchers seeking vicarious sexual gratification in the woods.

A psychologist who studies bird watching says: “Adults, disguised as bird watchers mask their debauchery by taking trips in groups. They can then achieve climax in the safety of the woods. Particularly disturbing is the high number of senior citizens using binoculars and telescopes to observe birds mating.

“These horny Peeping Toms satisfy their craving for sex by focusing their debasement on birds. This perversion must be halted, otherwise the entire moral fibre of our nation is going to hell.”.

A former birdwatcher, who recently resigned from his club in Meritt Island, FL, said:“I am sad about the reprehensible behavior of these bird watchers who need to satisfy their pornographic pleasures. Shame on them!”.

A member of Congress, who requested anonymity, is quietly drafting legislature that would levy stiff fines against people caught with bird porn in their possession, either photos or internet images.

Today, I can write about another sheriff that groped a deputy.

A former sheriff groped a deputy and grabbed her buttocks several times while she was employed at his office, the deputy testified Tuesday.

Jennifer Tyler, now a deputy sheriff in Washington state, said that before her first day of the job, Custer County Sheriff Mike Burgess put his hand down the back of her trousers and touched her waistline and buttocks during a uniform fitting.

“It’s degrading to have someone who just hired you to stick his hands down your pants,” Tyler said.

She also testified on the first day of a preliminary hearing on charges that Burgess had inappropriate sexual contact with women he oversaw in the county’s drug court program. He faces 35 felony charges, including 14 counts of second-degree rape, seven counts of forcible oral sodomy and five counts of bribery by a public official.

At least this sexual deviant went after grown women, or so it appears at this time, rather than the sexual deviant sheriff in TN that has gotten off completely. And with 35 charges, I can’t say that the prosecutors in this case will drop the ball, ignore the Rape Shield Laws, allow the sexual history of every one of these women Burgess assaulted. Will the Oklahoma Special Prosecutor stoop so low as to allow Pretrial Diversion as TN did? We’ll see.

At the Sweden Rock Festival press conference (above), Judas Priest was asked a sensitive question about former drummer Dave Holland’s pedophilia case. Vocalist Rob Halford complimented Holland as a musician and went on to avoid a direct answer to the qustion. Here is part of the transcript:

Rob Halford: Well, I think there’s an enormous respect for Dave and what he did for the band. As you know, we’ve had many drummers, we’re almost like the living Spinal Tap in some respects. The drumming for any band is absolutely vital, it’s the anchor, and it’s what keeps the band locked together. So after going through 3 or 4 drummers we finally found the best man for the job, Scott Travis and he’s been with us for how many years, Scott? He doesn’t want to remember…

Scott Travis: 19, I think.

Rob: Since “Painkiller”, so we’re talking 18 years now. So there’s a reflection of thanks to all the drummers who we’ve worked with for doing great work but it’s important to reinforce that Scott Travis is the exclusive drummer for Judas Priest.

Rob Halford could easily have a career as a politician if he ever retires from Heavy Metal. He perfected the skill of avoiding a sensitive topic.

Dave Holland (right) was sent to the clink in 2004 for eight years on an attempted rape charge of a young boy. Holland still maintains his innocence. At the trial he only admitted to being bisexual.

After the imprisonment, Judas Priest promptly removed Holland’s photos from their newly-released box set.

There are hazards to being a woman, where you can be subjected to certain…displays. I’ve lived in Vancouver for quite a few years and in the West End, around Main and Cambie, and in East Vancouver. I’ve never lived in scary areas but in your normal range of dwellings; not upscale but still nice areas with families or many people. I’ve never lived near an area notorious for drugs and other criminal activities.

Still, in the course of just being a person I’ve seen my share of wankers. The most innocuous was the guy standing below the Burrard St. bridge in white socks and runners and nothing else. He looked up at the people walking over the bridge and played with himself. I found it hilarious and ludicrous.

Unfortunately the other incidents were closer. I was on a bus one day around 6 pm. I sat near the middle of the bus, on a seat beside someone, not even looking as I put my money away. The bus was full of people. I realized there was a rhythmic hand movement coming from the guy beside me. I got up and moved toward the front of the bus, disconcerted. In those days I was a little too timid to say anything. But an elderly man standing beside me said, do you know what that man was doing? I said I suspected and that’s why I stood. The guy got off at the next stop (no pun intended).

After that I moved to E. Van and into a ground floor suite. I asked my landlord for curtain rods (my landlords live above me) but he said, what do you need curtain rods for? Their main floor doesn’t have curtains on any of the back windows where kitchen, dining room and living room are. Their bedroom is on the top floor. So I had to tack up a scarf over the bathroom window and likewise for the bedroom. Murray didn’t seem to get that we lived right at the level where people can walk by the window.

My partner was working late at his studio that night. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth, when I heard a tapping at the window. I thought my partner had forgotten his key. I pulled back the thin (it turns out, see-through) curtain and there was this guy illumined by the security light, his face turned away so I couldn’t see it, and he was wanking away and moaning.

The shock at such a sight up close is part fright at one’s privacy being breached. This guy could see me and knew which room I was in. I ran to the other room.  The pervert followed until he saw me calling the police. Then he scampered off. The police eventually showed up about a half hour later. At that point in time they were pretty lackadaisical. Shortly after there was someone going around beating women with a baseball bat and raping them. Any calls after that point, and the police showed up immediately. Oh, and yes, the next day I had curtain rods on the bedroom and bathroom windows.

The next time a wanker showed up at my place was after I broke up with a manipulative, arrogant guy I had been dating. He’d turned stalker for about a week or two after our break-up before I reamed him out. A month or so later I was working at my computer one night when I realized every light was on. So I walked from my den, down the hall toward the living room, turning out the extra lights. Outside my French patio doors and the small patio, standing up on the retaining wall, was a guy wanking off.

I ducked into the bathroom but had to pop out to call the police. I did so and they arrived quickly with dogs but the guy was long gone. Shortly after this my landlord put blinds up on my patio doors and more security lighting, and a taller (6′) picket fence in the back. A week or two later the ex-boyfriend wanted my opinion on a piece of his art. Being too nice I agreed to meet for a coffee. When he asked how I was, I said fine but there’d been a wanker at my place, not at all suspecting him. He blurted out, “It wasn’t me!” And that’s when I knew in fact it was him. I’ve never talked to him since.

The third time, in this same place, I again was getting ready for bed and when I closed the curtain in my bedroom I noticed the bushes move. So I snuck to my den next door, in the dark and peered out of one tiny corner of the curtained window…as this guy was trying to peer in the opposite corner, his hood pulled up around his face. This one scared me the most because I knew he’d been watching me for a while and he wasn’t just wanking off.

I called the police in the dark, knowing where the numbers were on the phone. They were coming with dogs but one of the police drove on the street first and the creep ran. Into the back yard…where there is no alley…toward the 6′ sharp, picket fence…with his bike. He made it over and was gone but his bike remained behind on the pickets. The police were amused and figured the guy might have injured himself. I was badly shaken and dreamt of being raped for a couple of nights.

The last time was a couple of years ago, during a bright sunny day. I was home and heard someone knock on the door upstairs. I peered out my window. If it’s the postman I’ll take packages for my landlords sometime. It wasn’t but the guy saw me. I don’t tend to answer the door to solicitors or strangers. Well this greasy haired, young guy knocked on my door. I didn’t answer and he started going around the house, knocking on every window and door, prying at some of them.

I grabbed my phone and sat below my door. It has a small glass window in it. The guy couldn’t see me at that angle but I could see his reflection in my bookcase doors that faced the doors. Out of sight, I sat and waited as the guy circled the house. Then he came back to the door and started ramming his shoulder against it. I didn’t wait to see if he would break in but called the police. He heard the beep of my phone and said, ”I was looking for this girl I know. She lives around here. I thought this was her place.”

And all I could think was that if the girl gave a different address, there was good reason if this is what he did. The police came but as it is in all cases, they can’t do anything until the person actually hurts you or breaks in. I asked if I could charge hin with trespassing but they said no. The guy was gone anyways but in essence he could wank off, terrorize people and trespass on their property and get away with it.

A week later I the same greasy creep enter someone’s house across the street. The door was open on a hot day and he just waltzed in. The guy that tossed him out nearly broke the railing but didn’t hit this pervert. I was on my way to meet someone so I called the police as I walked up the street. All I got from them was a reaming out for not staying there. I’m sure nothing was done.

Since then, it’s only been someone breaking in to my place once and my car six months later. And I bet I fit into the average here. Ah, Vancouver, civilized and trendy city. Even wankers love it.

Researchers from Rensselaer Polytechnic are working on creating characters for Second Life with the reasoning abilities of a four-year-old. They currently have a character named Eddie that can reason about his own beliefs and make choices based on them. This is interesting progress in AI. Children four and under haven’t learnt to build models of other people’s behavior. So in the example in the article, a child is shown Person A placing a teddy bear in a cabinet. Person A leaves and Person B moves the bear from the cabinet to the refrigerator. Person A comes back in and the child is asked to predict where Person A will look for the bear. Because they don’t have this model yet, they will say the refrigerator. Eddie does this at first, but then learns the correct model with an additional iteration of the process.

The problem here is the venue. Second Life is a den of sexual deviants. If it’s not the furries, it’s child molesters. One disturbing phenomenon is people with child avatars who want to be molested. So, is it really wise to put a simulated child character in this world?

I entered my couchsurf hosts apartment in Salt Lake City to find three drag queens in full makeup. They call it “face”. A tall one with stilletto boots threw a red feather boa at me and said “c’mon, couchsurfer, let’s go get some coffee.”

And we did. And it was fun. And you can now ask me about the drag scene in Salt Lake, of which I am amply educated. I can even recommend some good venues to meet girls with french tips and adam’s apples.

The next morning it took me all day to get out of Salt Lake proper. I was dropped in Roosevelt at about ten pm.

I was walking along the sidewalk in Roosevelt (and I really mean the sidewalk) when a car pulled over and rolled down the passenger window. Which was weird because I wasn’t hitching, I was just walking past their grocery store talking on my phone. From inside the car a friendly faced man in his sixties says “looking for a place to sleep tonight?”

Weird. Suspicious. I squint at him to indicate my scrutiny, “what did you have in mind?”

“Well, I gotta place right around the corner here. You can sleep in my backyard if ya want.” I didn’t have a place to sleep, and it was getting late for rides, so his offer sounds kinda good.

“Sounds good.” I hop in.

His house was a little like the house I grew up in, with a few differences. The Lord’s Prayer in needlepoint hung framed above a buzzing fish tank in the living room. There’s chickens and a garden and such in his backyard. We sat at an old dining room table and he made me a sandwich and told me about his life. He married at sixteen, and had five kids, and traveled his whole life. Mostly hitchhiking from town to town.

“Even with your wife and kids?”

“Always with my wife and kids.”

Weird. He set up an air mattress under a canvas in his backyard, and I rolled out my sleeping bag and crawled in. Just before he goes back inside for the night he says, “You’ll be comfortable out here. The wife and I get up at five, I hope you like egg gravy.”

At five thirty the next morning I’m back at the dining room table. Turns out I don’t like egg gravy. When I finish my food I see the word “Jesus” printed on the center my plate. Just in case you forget, a lot of stuff in this house says “Jesus”.

The next day I made it all the way to Denver. I’m really glad I visited Kyle and Elyse. I’ve been having a great time. In a few hours I’m heading to New Mexico.
