The Skating Rink

This person has spent too much time around those crappy DJs that work the roller rinks and Matterhorn rides at the carnival. They usually want to add that false air of excitement that can only come from a diet of churros and over salted pretzels hastily eaten between lustful thoughts of underage sex and urinating in a half empty bottle of Gatorade. Typical day includes waking up at 3pm, shaking the fleas and deer ticks out of the clothes on the floor, and making his way to the communal shower in his trailer park to wash away the previous night’s debauchery. On the plus side, he gets to play all of his favorite music such as “I Want to Move it, Move it” and “I Got the Power” 15 times a day.

If you request a song from him, you better be prepared to specify the exact artist, song title, publisher, and product number from the Sony catalog… otherwise you’re about to enter a 20 minute discussion on the pros and cons of the original versus the remake versus the a capella version versus the bootleg garage recording from the original master tapes which surfaced in 1997 while cleaning out the attic. Its better to just email this DJ the exact song you want played… otherwise this way leads to madness.

The song you just heard was the “Crazy Bitch” by Buck Cherry and the next song youre about to hear is “Love Me Dead” by Ludo, a small alternative band from St Louis, Missouri. Ludo gets their name from a character in the film Labyrinth. It started when the duo of lead vocalist and guitarist Andrew Volpe and guitarist Tim Ferrell played occasionally around St. Louis. Deciding to pursue Ludo full-time, they expanded to a five-piece group in 2003 with Tim Convy on moog, bassist Marshall Fanciullo and drummer Matt Palermo. Ludo recorded their self-titled debut album, Ludo, and released it on their own indie label, Redbird Records in August of 2003. For the next few years, the band toured extensively with other midwestern bands, such as The Dog and Everything, Anything But Joey and Upside. This exposure brought them moderate indie success. The band returned to the studio in 2005 and recorded the EP Broken Bride. Broken Bride is a rock opera about a man who travels through time to attempt to save his wife from dying in a car accident in 1989. The opening track, “Broken Bride: Part 1,” was a song that originally stood alone before evolving into the full opera. In recent years, Ludo has been putting on themed concerts at The Pageant in St. Louis. These include HalLUDOween, A Very Ludo Christmas, and Cinco de Mustache. Their fun outlook and interactive shows gained the attention of major labels Capitol Records and Island Records. If you’ve ever felt an attraction to someone whom you’ve only heard and never actually seen, it may be because our senses are trained to pick up a potential mate’s genetic health and reproductive fitness—reflected in the symmetry of one’s body—via the sound of his/her voice.

In a recent study, published in the Journal of Nonverbal Behavior, participants listened to previously recorded voices and rated their levels of attractiveness according to nine traits, including approachability, intelligence, sexiness and warmth. The group concluded that men whose voices ranked as most approachable, intelligent, sexy and warm—and women whose voices were deemed most approachable, sexy and as most likely to get dates—were the most attractive overall.

The voices rated as most attractive were from those whose bodies were the most symmetrical. But, a sexy voice—and thereby sexy body—has nothing to do with the attractiveness of one’s face, according to one of the lead researchers.

So, this means a couple of things: those cruelly tagged “butter faces” out there must sound super sexy over the phone and James Earl Jones has one crazily symmetric body. Who knew?

What are the specific qualities of an attractive voice? When researchers used machines to try and objectively quantify the characteristics of a “sexy voice,” the results were inconclusive. Just like our sense of smell, apparently our perception of sound is just another way our sneaky genes are inherently playing matchmaker for us.

For those who don’t know Code Geass is an anime (one of the best, in my opinion. But I’m obsessed.) If the awesomeness doesn’t convince you to start watching, maybe this will: CLAMP character designs!

Code Geass is about Lelouch Lamperouge, a Britannian student who finds himself with Geass, or more specifically in his case, the power of the king, while out from school. He now has the power to command each person on the world to do something – but only once. They forget they have been commanded to afterwards, too. He allies with terrorists in Area 11, previously known as Japan before an invasion by Britannia, and calls himself Zero. It’s quite ironic, since Lelouch is a prince of Britannia, but is fighting to revenge his assassinated mother and create a world for his sister (Nunnally) to live in peacefully. It is further complicated by the appearance of his old friend, Kururugi Suzaku (Suzaku Kururugi in Britannian order), the son of the previous prime minister who is part of the Britannian army. Soon, fate plots them against each other as they both try to change the world.

Excuse my crappy summary – it’s actually mine! How awesome! If that doesn’t compel you, it’s filled with intrigue and the second season (R2) is currently showing now. I beg you to watch it, since it’s better than ever this season and Lelouch’s voice is hot! -coughdidntsaythatcough-

Lelouch!” XD), Takahiro Sakurai who’s Suzaku, also voices Yuri Shibuya (KKM), Cloud (FF), Takamine Kiyomaro (Zatch Bell), Shiryu (Seint Seiya), Yuu Kanda (D.Gray-Man) and Haseo (.hack//Roots), and Yukana (yes, only one name) who is CC (pronounced C2), voiced Kotoko in Chobits, Rinslet Walker in Black Cat and Tessa in Full Metal Panic. Just did research on the main three then~

Kallen’s voice actor also does some, but not as popular. She was in School Rumble as Tenma, though.
