Einen Teilerfolg konnte ein 47jähriger Hartz IV Bezieher aus dem Wetteraukreis in einem Eilverfahren vor dem Sozialgericht Gießen erzielen. Die für den Wetteraukreis zuständige Job-KOMM hatte die Kosten der Unterkunft auf 245 € gekürzt. Sie war dabei von einer angemessenen Wohnungsgröße von 45 m² und einem m²-Preis von 5,44 € ausgegangen, tatsächlich musste der Mann für seine 60 m² große Wohnung aber 350 € bezahlen.

Die Behörde begründete ihre Entscheidung damit, sie orientiere sich am Wohngeldgesetz. Seit 2006 würden zudem die Wohnungsanzeigen der örtlichen Presse ausgewertet.

Das Sozialgericht hielt dies nicht für ausreichend. Zur Feststellung der Angemessenheitsgrenze müsse der Grundsicherungsträger ein schlüssiges Konzept vorlegen, was hier aber nicht der Fall sei. Die JobKOMM habe nicht erklären können, wie die Auswertung der Zeitungsanzeigen in die Ermittlung der Angemessenheit einfließe. Die Zeitungsanzeigen hätten eine Preisspanne von 5,20 € bis 6 € ergeben. Es könne auch ein m²-Preis an der oberen Grenze dieser Spanne nicht ausgeschlossen werden. Ohne schlüssiges Konzept lasse sich die Berechnung der JobKOMM nicht nachvollziehen, die Behörde müsse daher bei einer angemessenen Wohnungsgröße von 45 m² eine Monatsmiete von 270 € übernehmen.

When the Straits Times reported that JB Customs and Immigration Checkpoint has plans to expedite traffic clearance for lorries, there were some agitated comments from readers.

One particular comment was both amusing and downright cynical. He claims that there’s a donation box targeted at lorry drivers who want faster clearance. With the proposed plans to expedite clearance, the box will be filled to the brim in no time!

Before you discount this as a joke, allow me to relate my experience in JB.

S’porean motorists on driving back to SG will not have failed to notice JB traffic cops lounging on their bikes just outside the JB Checkpoint. Anyone would think Ha, they must be there to direct traffic. How nice of them.

Don’t be fooled. They’re there primarily on a “fishing” trip ie to “catch” S’porean drivers who somehow run afoul of their traffic laws eg making an illegal U-turn, beating the traffic lights. I’ve seen them booking SG motorists at least half a dozen times for it to be anything but a smart scam.

I don’t condone SG motorists for breaching traffic laws, least of all in a foreign country, but targeting SG tourists in this manner is outrageous.

Any attempt to defend yourself with “I’m sure I didn’t beat the traffic lights” would be countered with “There’re are two of us. Can two of us be wrong?”

El nombre de “SG” proviene de “Solid Guitar” (Guitarra Sólida en español) y fue un modelo creado por la marca Gibson en los años 60. En un principio se creó como una variación de la mítica Les Paul pero, poco después de su creación, el propio Les Paul perdió el interés por este tipo de guitarras y pidió que se retirara su nombre de ellas. Fue entonces cuando pasó a llamarse SG. Por lo tanto, fue concebida como un tipo distinto de Les Paul y como tal la mayoría de las SG tienen una configuración muy similar a las Les Paul: las dos tienen doble pastilla humbucker, las dos están hechas de caoba ela mayoría de los casos, suelen tener las mismas electrónicas y ecualizador, etc. Hoy en día existen muchos tipos de SG (Deluxe, Goth…) y hasta se han sacado modelos de bajo con dicha forma de cuerpo (personalmente, estos bajos me parecen horribles).

Pero con un cambio tan radical en la forma del cuerpo no pueden ser todo similitudes. Quizás la mayor diferencia (y la más visible) entre las dos es el doble corte, arriba y abajo, del mastil. Estos cortes junto con sus delgados cuernos estuvieron pensados para hacer los trastes superiores más accesibles, lo cual se consiguió. Además el cuerpo y el mástil son mucho más delgados lo que supone una significativa reducción en el peso del instrumento y su manejabilidad. Como en esto de los instrumentos no hay cambio sin consecuencia, todo lo que se le hizo a la guitarra repercutió en un sonido bastante menos contundente que su pariente Les Paul. Además, y he aquí uno de los principales fallos de la SG, las guitarras tienen muy poco peso en el cuerpo y demasiado en el mástil lo que lleva a que la guitarra a girarse y ser algo incomoda de tocar en muchos casos.

Pese a todo, la SG se convirtió en un icono del rock y con el tiempo ha mantenido una potente supremacía en el mundo de las guitarras eléctricas. Gran parte de este éxito viene dado por que Angus Young, mítico guitarrista de AC/DC, eligió la SG como su modelo de guitarra favorito. Como podemos ver en el vídeo, las guitarras SG se suelen tocar bastante altas (me refiero a la altura del instrumento) para solventar ese problema de peso que tienen.

It’s like the old saying goes, “Ya gotta crawl, before ya walk.”.  While I’m not an absolute beginner with the guitar, it has been a while, and in the past I’ve played around with guitars, rather than trying to become a guitar player.  However, I plan on changing that in the weeks, months and years to come, and it all starts with getting a decent guitar on which to learn.  Based on reputation and price, I’ve chosen a Yamaha F325 Dreadnaught acoustic, picture here:

The way I see it, if I can develop smooth, quick scales and chord changes on something like this, then the fingers will fly on a good electric.  In addition, most of the songs and styles I want to learn at first are best suited for the acoustic guitar.  But, once I’ve gotten to such a level — basic chords and chord changes done correctly and smoothly, and 2-3 different types of scales down pat — then I’ll get a decent electric to play.  The one I have my eye on at this point is the Epiphone SG Special in the next pic.

A lot of notable guitarists have used the (Gibson) SG over the years:  Most notably Angus Young of AC/DC, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, KK Downing and Glenn Tipton of Judas Priest, and even Duane Allman, among others.  The one time I ever sat and played one of these guitars I immediately wanted one.  It played very easily, had excellent tone, and the owner said he’d never sell it at any price because of his fondness for it.  That, along with a storied history of professional guitar virtuosos having preferred it, brought me to my decision.  However, an electric guitar without an amp is akin to a gun without ammo;  there’s no punch.  So, I shopped around and came up with the little gem pictured next:  The Peavey Vypyr 15w 1×8.

Seems to me there’s no need for any other effects pedals at this point.  I’m figuring on learning at least 50 complete songs (down pat) before I upgrade from this gear to the next level.  But, when I do, I’ll be looking for a decent tube amp, a better guitar (probably an HSS Strat-style), and then some nice, true-bypass effects pedals. 

As I acquire various types of gear, I’ll post pics somewhere on the blog, and as my abilities (and finances) progress I may even add some videos.  ‘Till then, have a good one.

Οι AC / DC είναι ένα αυστραλιανό ροκ συγκρότημα που σχηματίστηκε το Σίδνεϊ το 1973 από Σκωτσεζους της Αυστραλίας, τα αδέρφια Angus και Malcolm Young (Angus & Malcom  McKinnon Young).  Αν και το συγκρότημα ταξινομείται συνήθως ως hard rock και θεωρείται πρωτοπόρος των βαρέων μετάλλων, αυτοί ταξινομούσαν πάντα τη μουσική τους ως rock ‘n’ roll.

Η μπάντα υπέστη πολλές line-up αλλαγές πριν από την κυκλοφόριση του πρώτου τους  άλμπουμ, High Voltage, το 1975. H Σύνθεση παρέμεινε σταθερή μέχρι την αντικατάσταση του μπασίστα Mark Evans από τον Cliff Williams το 1977.  Η μπάντα που καταγράφει ιδιαίτερα επιτυχημένη πορεία με το άλμπουμ Highway to Hell το 1979. Αλλά στης 19 Φεβρουαρίου 1980 ο “πρώτος” τραγουδιστής και  συνθέτης Bon Scott πέθαινει μετά από μια νύχτα μεγάλης κατανάλωσης αλκοόλ απο αναρώφιση.

Η ομάδα εξέτασε εν συντομία την διάλυση του συγκροτήματος, αλλά σύντομα ο πρώην τραγουδιστής των Geordie, Brian Johnson είχε επιλεγεί για να αντικαταστήσει τον Scott. Αργότερα εκείνο το έτος, η μπάντα κυκλοφόρησετον δίσκο με τις μεγαλύτερες πωλήσεις σε άλμπουμ, με τίτλο Back in Black.

αμέσως μετά τον ντράμερ Phil Rudd ο οποίος απολύθηκε το 1983 και αντικαταστάθηκε από τον μελλοντικό Dio ντράμερ Simon Wright. Ο Phil Rudd επέστρεψε το 1994 (αφού ο Chris Slade κλήθηκε να εγκαταλείψει υπέρ του) και συνέβαλε με το 1995 στο άλμπουμ της μπάντας με τίτλο Ballbreaker. Το 1991 πραγματοποιούν ένα από τα καλίτερα τους live, και ένα απο τα καλλίτερα live στον κόσμο, στο Donington στην Αμερική.

Το επόμενο τους άλμπουμ κυκλοφόρησε το 2000 με τίτλο “Stiff Upper Lip” και έτυχε να έχει ευνοϊκή υποδοχής από τους κριτικούς. Πιο πρόσφατο άλμπουμ του συγκροτήματος, είναι το Black Ice, το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε στις 20 Οκτωβρίου 2008 και συνοδεύτηκε από μια τεράστια περιοδία μέσα στα πλαίσια της οποίας ήρθαν και για πρώτη φορά στην Ελλάδα. Από το 2008, οι AC / DC έχουν πουλήσει πάνω από 200 εκατομμύρια άλμπουμ σε όλο τον κόσμο, συμπεριλαμβανομένων 71 εκατομμύρια άλμπουμ στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες. Το Back in Black έχει πουλήσει περίπου 45 εκατομμύρια κομμάτια σε όλο τον κόσμο, καθιστώντας το υψηλότερο σε πωλήσεις άλμπουμ από κάθε ζώνη και το 2ο υψηλότερο σε πωλήσεις άλμπουμ στην ιστορία, πίσω από “Thriller” του Michael Jackson.

Το άλμπουμ έχει πωλήσει 22 εκατομμύρια μόνο στις ΗΠΑ, όπου είναι το πέμπτο κατά σειρά υψηλότερο σε πωλήσεις άλμπουμ. Οι AC / DC κατατάσσονται τέταρτοι στην λίστα του VH1 μέσα στους «100 μεγαλύτερους καλλιτέχνες του Hard Rock”  και η μπάντα πήρε το όνομά του έβδομου “Greatest Heavy Metal Band όλων των εποχών» από το MTV.  Το 2004, το συγκρότημα κατετάγη αριθμό 72 στη λίστα του περιοδικού Rolling Stone (το πιο καταξιομένο μουσικό περιοδικό στον κόσμο) των «100 μεγαλύτερων καλλιτέχνων όλων των εποχών”.

Ακόμα είναι μια από τις ελάχιστες μπάντες ανάμεσα σε group ή ακομα και ανεξάρτητους καλλιτέχνες που έχει την δικιά της οδό με τίτλο, φυσικά,  AC/DC Lane. Η “AC/DC Lane” είναι ένας δρόμος στη Βικτώρια της Μελβούρνης. Είναι ένα μικρό, στενό, που “κοιτάει” προς το νότο από το Flinders Lane μεταξύ Exhibition Street και Russell Street και βρίσκεται στην κεντρική επιχειρηματική περιοχή της Μελβούρνης.

October 16th, 1971, inside of two weeks before Duane's death on Oct. 29th. Gregg Allman, Duane Allman, & Berry Oakley above. Duane and Berry died in separate motorcycle accidents-- Duane in 1971 and Berry in 1972. So, I'm trying hard not to focus on the crazy shirts, but they're pretty smokin' man. Are they Nik Nik shirts?

There’s an overwhelming feeling of worldly injustice and “what could’ve been”, when someone so gifted and young is taken from us like Duane Allman was.  The only consolation we have (and a sweet one it is), are the incredible tracks he laid down with The Allman Brothers Band, Derek and the Dominoes, and his session works in the studio with great artists like Aretha Franklin, King Curtis, B.B. King, and Clarence Carter.  And if you think he was just a great slide player and string bender– check out the blistering lead work on You Don’t Love Me.

I can’t believe that 38 years have already passed since the day Duane Allman hopped on his Harley after a party in Macon, Georgia– not knowing it would be for the last time.  He only got a few miles down the road, when a truck turned in front of him and Duane clipped it’s back end.  Allman lost control, and the Harley landed on top of him, sustaining injuries that would take his life within a few short hours. The lead guitarist of the Allman Brothers Band, who was gaining huge acclaim for his exciting and innovative sound and style, was dead at age 24.

Jerry Wexler’s eulogy for Duane sums it up best: “This young and beautiful man who we love so dearly but who is not lost to us, because we have his music, and the music is imperishable.”

Amen, brother.  Amen.

Das Sozialgericht Düsseldorf hat entschieden, dass ein schwerbehindeter Kläger aus Krefeld, der nach einem Hirninfarkt 1 1/2 Jahre krank war und anschließend mit einer Wiedereingliederungsmaßnahme ins Erwerbsleben zurückkehrte, einen Rentenan­spruch hat; auch wenn er bis zum Eintritt der auf anderen medizinischen Gründen beruhenden Erwerbsunfähigkeit nach der Wiedereingliederung lediglich ca. 7 Wo­chen voll gearbeitet hat.

Die Kammer sah die rentenrechtlichen Voraussetzungen, dass der Kläger die letzten fünf Jahre vor Eintritt des Versicherungsfalls mindestens 3 Jahre Pflichtbeiträge ent­richtet hat, als erfüllt an. Entgegen der Rechtsansicht der Beklagten sei der Leis­tungsfall, also die dauernde Erwerbsunfähigkeit, nicht schon mit dem Hirninfarkt Ende 2004 eingetreten. Der Kläger habe nach Abschluss der Wiedereingliederung von Juni 2006 bis Ende Juli 2006 seine berufliche Tätigkeit von einem speziell aus­gestatteten Heimarbeitsplatz als Vollzeittätigkeit ausgeübt. Die entgegenstehende Auffassung der Beklagten, dass die Wiedereingliederungsmaßnahme letztlich erfolg­los gewesen sei, sei in keiner Weise nachvollziehbar. Allein der Umstand, dass der Kläger vollschichtig gearbeitet habe – und dies nach gutachterlichen Feststellungen ohne Gefährdung der Gesundheit – zeige, dass die zwischenzeitlich durch den Hirninfarkt eingetretene Erwerbsunfähigkeit wieder aufgehoben war. Im Anschluss an die Rechtsprechung des Bundessozialgerichts sei davon auszugehen, dass derjeni­ge, der tatsächlich arbeite, auch arbeitsfähig sei.

Der weitere Einwand der Beklagten, dass es sich bei der vom Kläger verrichteten Tä­tigkeit um Arbeit im geschützten Raum handele, sei angesichts des Umstandes, dass die Beklagte sehr wohl Sozialversicherungsbeiträge für die Tätigkeit des Klägers ent­gegen genommen habe und es sich im Übrigen um eine gut dotierte Tätigkeit gehan­delt habe, in keinster Weise nachvollziehbar und stelle eine mit dem Grundgesetz nicht vereinbare Diskriminierung behinderter Beschäftigter dar.
