美味しいと評判で行ってみたかったプレミアム・ハンバーガーチェーン、Byron（バイロン）。でも今まで、ケンジントン&チェルシー等ロンドン西部にしかなかったので行けずじまいだったが、私たちの行動範囲内にもオープンした。場所はSOHOのど真ん中、Wardour Street 。70年代にロックファンのたまり場だったロック／メタルパブ、The Intrepid Fox（2006年に移転）のあった建物内にある。ロックやメタルファンのたまり場だった頃と打って変わって、明るくこぎれいになった店内は、ざっと白く塗られたレンガ壁やレトロ風の時計と、ヒップな照明、ダークカラーを基調にした革張りのソファやテーブル・椅子等、モダンなデザインがうまくミックスされている。私たちが行った時は偶然オープン初日の11月25日。3時間前にオープンしたという店内は、既にたくさんの人で賑わっていた。

そして美味しいと噂のハンバーガー。スコットランド・ハイランド地方の小農場で牧草で育てられたという牛の良質の肉を使ったパテは、ジューシーで赤みの多いレアに上手く焼かれていて、とろっととろけたチーズ、新鮮な野菜（トマト、レッドオニオン、レタス）と相まって噂通りの味。ただ、フレンチ・フライはラードが使われているのか（ラードを使うとサクッと揚がるからと、イギリスでは揚げ物によく使われる）、ちょっともそもそしてて期待はずれ。でも、オープン初日で、何と食事代金は無料（飲み物代別）！請求書をもらってからそう言われて、もっとオーダーすれば良かったと冗談を言い合った（そんな客が多いから、お店も会計まで言わなかったんだろう）。

私たちはハンバーガーが好きで、ランチで時々食べにいく。最初はHamburger Unionにはまり、その後味が落ちたと感じてからは（その後倒産したのか、再度経営者が代わり、最近、Hamburger +という名に変わったトッテナム・コート・ロードにある店で食べたが、ひどい味になっていた）、Gourmet Burger Kitchenに心変わり。Byronもこれから、ソーホーあたりに出かけた時のレギュラーのランチ場所になりそうだ。

The premium hamburger chain Byron, known for their ‘proper’ back-to-basic hamburger, just opened yesterday (Nov 25th) on Wardour Street, SOHO. We always wanted to go to Byron but their stores are all in the west part of London like Kensington and Chelsea, and we had never been – but now it is in our territory! It is located in the building used to be occupied by 70’s rock hangout, the rock/metal pub Intrepid Fox. Refurbished and transformed, this shabby chic restaurant with roughly painted white brick walls is decorated with retro clock, hip lighting, and modern dark-colored furniture. It was the opening day we passed by and found it by accident – just 3 hours after its door was opened to the public, but there were already many people enjoying their burger.

We got their highly reputed hamburger finally on our hands. The juicy patty, made with free range grass-fed beef from small farms in Scottish Highlands, was beautifully cooked rare and had a perfect match with melted Monterey Jack cheese and fresh vegetables (tomatoes, red onions, and lettuce). But I was not impressed by their French fries – cooked with lard (widely used for frying in UK) I assume. Good surprise was that we were told Byron offered all the customers free meals (except drinks) on their opening day, when we got the check. We were joking that we should have ordered more foods and probably all the customers thought the same, but I guess that’s the thing that Byron definitely wanted to avoid.

We love hamburger and we eat it for a lunch sometimes (but try not too often). First we became a regular to Hamburger Union but we turned to Gourmet Burger Kitchen when we thought that the taste changed to worse – now Hamburger Union seems to be liquidated and its management has changed (I couldn’t find any information for it, though). We went to Hamburger + (changed the name) on Tottenam Court Road and were hugely disappointed by their awful burger and espresso. Now Byron is added to our list of lunch places around SOHO.

Så kortfattad som möjligt då. Jag har varit i Oman med familjen, flyttat från Hammarby och ska nu ta med hunden och mitt pick&pack till en Stuga på Runstens Gård. Alltså, jag ska bli lantis. Långt ut i grödinge ska jag bo och jag TÄNKER älska det. Innerst inne är jag en norrlandstjej som helst av allt vill renovera upp familjens gamla gård långt inne i norrlands skog och bara vara där. Ta hand om huset, gården, stallet och mina fina, underbara djur.

Riktigt så långt ska jag inte gå men vem vet, jag kanske trivs så bra att jag ALDRIG flyttar ut där ifrån?

Jag längtar efter ett projekt just nu och som att det inte är nog att ta hand om häst och hund så bör det vara tillräckligt när hästen blir sjuk och ska medicineras vareviga dag. Inreda vill jag göra, inreda sådär fint som jag aldrig har gjort förut. Lantligt, vitt, enkelt och gammaldags. För att toppa den lantliga stilen så måste jag själv börja klä mig i gummistövlar och koftor året runt och helst spara ut håret långt. njaa.. En Volvo Amazon kanske räcker för att jag ska bli nöjd? En fin liten bil att ta fram när andan faller på och bara putsa på..

En konstig sammanfattning av vad som har skett på senaste tiden och innan vi vet ordet av så är det jul. Jag ska försöka uppdatera ofta nu!

We are moving our family of 7 to the rural town of Larkspur, about halfway between Castle Rock and Colorado Springs. I am finally getting my country house on property and will share pictures soon, and hopefully I will have my full studio in order. I am so pleased with how this turned out!…I just love the cardinals…too cute!!! 

For this one I tried a patterned red and white dots for the middle layer…

Here is another option where I used a white shimmer textured paper for the middle layer.  I also made the middle layer on this one slightly larger than the previous one.

I tried a gatefold with the shimmer tiffany blue cardstock that I had….just wanted to see what cardstocks would look nice with it.  Then I couldn’t resist to add a wrap around the invitation and a cute little tag! 

This darling little shabby vintage 4 drawer chest is only $29.95. Seriously! Selling it ‘as found’; and since we didn’t have to do any work on it, it’s a real bargain!

To the right of the dresser is a shabby white shelf we made from an old drawer. It’s $39.95. And it’s the perfect size to set on top of the white dresser as a hutch.

The vintage pedestal plates with cloche tops are great for decorating with too!  I love filling them with vintage glass ornaments.  (hold the dome upside down in your hand; gently fill with ornaments and TOP with your base then turn right-side up).  I like to fill them with shells too.   Even just piles of sparkly tinsel inside makes a beautiful centerpiece.

These two tiered vintage glassware stands are SO fun to decorate for the holidays!!!  Fill them with holiday treats for a yummy display.   Or pile them full of pretty Christmas balls for a pretty centerpiece.   They even look lovely filled with fresh greenery and pinecones or fruit.  Very versatile for year-round use and decorating!

Hard Times? The New “Poverty Chic”

…In this issue [of Town and Country magazine], the Editor’s Letter focuses on the effect the recent economic downturn has had on the halcyon days of the, well, the right-up-until-a-year-ago era. She calls 2009 “the year of ‘no mores’- no more lavish spending, no more whimsical investments, no more doing things just for the hell of it.” On the following page, she comes to her senses and recommends that we consider purchasing as a Christmas gift a $325.00 chinoiserie enamel ring box. This would, I imagine, be a stocking stuffer along with a 2 carat diamond ring from Cartier (to put in the box) , a perfect black truffle, a cashmere dog sweater, and a pair of airline tickets to Anguilla.

During my recent magazine addiction (from which I recovered completely in the Conde Nast wing of the Betty Ford Clinic), I saw this “Poverty Chic” idea again and again…

I am genuinely not happy that the mighty have fallen; I am not happy when anyone falls. I might wish, though, that there was less media focus on the getting and spending aspects of hard times, and more on the silver linings. This focus on what can be “bought” skews incorrectly the image of what it means to focus less on the material world, whether by choice or necessity. My books come from the library, my toilet paper is generic, and my cashmere used to be my mother’s, but despite my inability (and unwillingness) to spend $325.00 on a ring box, I have a sound marriage, a circle of friends and family who could only possibly love me for who I am (since I have nothing else to give them), and a great kid who is already learning how to work and plan to get what we can’t easily afford. Our family, and not what we buy, or where we go, is the center of our lives…

Jag är en donna med kräsen smak. Man skulle kunna påstå att jag har ett stort intresse för mode, men jag vill hellre säga att jag är passionerad för stil. För jag har min smak och jag följer inte den senaste trenden bara för nyhetens behag. Nej, jag har en mycket personlig passion för allt i mitt hem, även i min garderob. Även om mitt hem kan likna många andras så ska ni veta att bakom varje inköp och styling ligger ett noga övervägt beslut som följer känslan jag får av denna sak. Jag kollar runt, funderar, förhandlar med mig själv och surfar runt på varje inredningsblogg samt affär jag kan hitta. Ofta väntar jag för länge, men då var det säkert så det skulle vara! Och jag köper inget bara för att jag är i behov av det, lika lite som jag köper få saker till mitt hem endast för att det är snyggt. Kombinationen av funktionalitet och style är viktigt!

Så långt det är möjligt försöker jag återanvända och spara på miljön. Men jag handlar en hel del, även om det är begagnat, så jag kan inte påstå att jag är en eldsjäl, det vore att hyckla. Jag är alldeles för förälskad i en vacker närvaro för det. Dock anser jag att varje en av oss bör göra noggranna val innan vi plockar fram plånboken, för att handla endast för att kasta bort är otroligt onödigt! Faktum är att jag är så kräsen, det är så viktigt för mig att jag känner att varje föremål fyller sin funktion och har sin plats i mitt hem, att det oftast slutar med att jag inte hittar det jag vill ha. Istället målar jag om, bygger till och stuvar. Men vid sällsynta tillfällen kompromissar jag.

Jag bor i en 43 kvadratmeters 1 1/2:a tillsammans med min kära fästman. Vi bor högt upp och är utan balkong eller uteplats, vilket förutom förvaringsutrymmet är vår enda sorg. Vi älskar vårt hem och njuter av det så fort vi får chansen. Att sitta i soffan och titta på de tända ljusen och lyssna på vacker musik är få förunnat att hinna, men vi försöker.
Att bo två vuxna på denna yta betyder “compact living” i största grad och därför är funktionalitet en extra stor faktor i mitt inredande.

I den här bloggen hoppas jag på att kunna dela med mig lite tips till andra som är som jag, som vill vara organiserade, vill återvinna och brinner för det stilfulla i livet. Jag hoppas kunna visa på hur fina saker man kan hitta på oväntade ställen och på platser där man kan köpa gamla saker för att återanvända sätta sin egen prägel på. Det finns tusen bloggar som denna men jag hoppas kunna erbjuda något som gör att just du fastnar för just min.

Tavlan på bilden har jag knåpat ihop själv. Det är en filmistavla som med sin stjärnstatus får illustrera detta premiärinlägg i bloggen.
Jag hade en stor “göra om” period här hemma under detta året (2009) och har målat om i princip varje möbel och vägg. Köpt nytt gjort bättre. Jag har gått från mörkt till ljust. Länge jagade jag en tavla som jag såg på en affär 2006. Det var en tvådelad tavla från Miljögården med en man som satt och spelade på en stor flygel och en kvinna i en vacker coctailklänning som låg på flygeln. Den var underbart vacker men just då passade den inte in i mitt hem så jag valde att inte köpa den. Detta beslut ångrar jag än i dag. Jag har sökt överallt men inte hittat den. Jag har heller inte lyckats hitta någon annan tavla jag vill ha på denna vägg. Därför började jag ropa in massor med gamla filmisar på tradera och så tog jag en ram från en gammal tavla min syster köpte för cirka 20 år sedan och detta blev resultatet. Billigt, enkelt och det blev riktigt i min smak. (Även om jag skulle köpa tavlan från Miljögården utan att blinka om jag kunde hitta rätt på den!)

Fast schon ein bisschen langweilig, ich weiss, aber ich muss noch einmal die Internetseite von “Light Locations” bemühen und auf diese Wohnung hinweisen, die nicht nur durch ihren äußerst geschmackvollen Shabby Chic und die weißen Bodendielen besticht, sondern auf mich eine unglaubliche Ruhe ausstrahlt. Und das Arbeitszimmer ist ein Traum. Da möchte man sich doch am liebsten sofort hinsetzen und arbeiten.

I went down to Fenton Barns today to rummage in Lovage and Lace, searching for inspiration. Have you been yet? Go! It’s a treasure house of vintage style, I love it.

Vintage fits so well with re-use and revamp. To enjoy an old object again is good for our environment too.

I was really looking for a teapot – for our newly found delight in afternoon teas – and a lampshade. I’m looking for something a bit shabby chic to attach brooches to. I didn’t find either. But I bought a hook and lovely old box.

Well done to Helen and Tom for their full page feature in the November/December  issue of Homes and Interiors Scotland. The place looks great in print. I hope the local community starts to support them more.

I also completed stage 2 of the bunting for the market. It’s now all pinned, just need to sew (stage 3) and it’s complete.

I’ve even moved forward with the other website today. I’m quietly pleased so far.

Still getting enquiries about availability at the market. There are no spaces left in our perfectly bijou gallery.The rent is paid, so all the paperwork is done! Should I take an advert in the Musselburgh News? I’ll call tomorrow to check availability and prices. I suspect it’ll be beyond the budget.

I got this book off amazon, and honestly it is the most inspiring wee book ever! I would highly recommend it!! It actually got me into embroidery… looking through the projects I fell inlove with her kitchen which is displayed in the book – il try to scan it in and update it on this! I also love all the wee cushions, so im investing in some embroidery hoops and ordering some fat quarters of fabric!! Ive gone through this book and decided that buying fat quarters in pastels, patterns, and plains would be the easiest way to break it up by each colour and also be accessible for me to do any project I fancy – if that makes sense! I spent a small fortune but im really happy with the wee fabric pieces I got. I think im going to make a cushion for my mum – taken from the Tilda book – sort of! I will update with pictures at the end because stopping and shooting while im working is not an option! The lighting is terrible in my house and setting up the lights and sewing is just too much effort for me! I will definitely show the finished product!

Evie Zaccardelli is probably one of the engaging people I’ve ever met. She is so very cool. Perhaps it’s something to do with her Italian roots, or spending many years abroad.

Evie has an optimism and creativity that always cheers me up and encourages me to get on with it.

She creates wonderful vibrant paintings – landscapes, abstracts, flowers, contemporary, expressionist paintings filled with dynamic colour. And shabby chic textile art, wooden wallhangings and collage art cards. She mixes vintage images – postcards and scraps – and old lace and fabrics. The result is delicate and light, very endearing and feminine.

I’ve only seen her small scale work up close. I can’t wait to see the whole collection.

For this one I created a 3 layered invitation rather than just 2 layers.  The bottom layer is a very soft, matte, texutred greencardstock.  The middle layer is more of a cream, shimmer, textured cardstock.  I also reduced the size of the invitation a little and added a peach ribbon…it gives the invitation a little something extra I think. 

Here is the green by itself as the background cardstock.  I also tried to reduce the size of the invitation just a little to make the background layer a little wider for more of an impact…

Here is another one that I played around with.  I used two background layers of cardstock again.  This time I used neutral colors to show off the peach lace.  The bottom layer is a tan, matte cardstock and the middle layer is a cream, texured, shimmer cardstock.
