Today my picture is a different kind of negative space. Have you ever noticed that the flame of a lit candle doesn’t show up in a shadow? That is negative space. Negative space is any space not occupied by the subject or foreground of a picture. I like that I can take pictures that are so different from each other but have them linked by negative space.

We had actually planned for paragliding. We left for Kamshet at 11 am and we were supposed to reach

We had actually planned for paragliding. We left for Kamshet at 11 am and we were supposed to reach there by 12. Now that was next to impossible. I was quiet apprehensive for this trip as i had some other domestic plans ready for the day. But Hubby listens to his instinct always so we left the house. As expected we reached there by 1.30pm. The pilot was not ready to give us tandem joy ride due to bad whether. So unwillingly we left the place though it was fun watching those parachutes coming our way!

We found Karla Caves on the way back and decided to take that route. The road itself was very adventurous. We parked the car somewhere in the middle of the mountain and there onwards we were supposed to climb up. And we started hiking. We also wanted to visit the temple and were accompanied by big crowd for that. As we reached there on the top, I was initially not happy but the moment i saw the caves i loved it.The very first glance was superb.

These caves represents golden period of Buddhism in India.he major attractions of the Karla Caves consist of the Chaitya Hall, beautifully chiseled sculptures and pillars adorned with incredible architecture. The magnificent structural design of the Chaitya Hall makes it a must see. Even the rooftop, made up of teak wood, has been exquisitely carved.

One of the pillars of the Karla caves has four lions at the top. This design has been adopted as the national emblem of India. There are a number of rock-cut sculptures inside the caves, displaying animals as well as various forms of human life. There is also a stone stupa, placed under an umbrella and carved with figures of men, women and elephants. The 37 pillars chiseled with the figures of prosperous men and women on elephants, bowing before Lord Buddha, add to the attraction of Karla caves.

I just loved the play of lighting in the Chaitya hall well suited for the photography. This post is all about those clicks i tried there.

Perspective correction is required a bit as i don’t use a professional camera.

You know you’ve married the right person when you come home from a four-day hunting trip, on the weekend of her birthday, to a Honda Shadow A.C.E. (my motorcycle) sitting in the garage. The seller of the bike called me while I was gone and said the title came through. Well, we originally made plans to come pick it up on Monday after I got back to town. Apparently Michelle went through some detective work to contact the guy selling the bike in order to pick it up before I got back. Well, the surprise worked.

After quickly unloading the car, we each jumped on our bikes and headed to Mueller’s apartment. The Shadow runs great, although it is very quiet compared to the wife’s. My stock exhaust can’t compete with her Vance and Hines. Once we return from Vegas, we’ll need to give the bike the once over with a maintenance check.

Why do some things upset us so much? We notice that our reaction is not in balance to the action we

Why do some things upset us so much? We notice that our reaction is not in balance to the action we have encountered. Why are we over-reacting so much?

We need to S.E.E. what underlies the emotional charge that we are feeling:

Is it Shadow? Is it Ego? Or, Early life unfinished business?

Here is an example: A person has a sharp tone to their voice when speaking to me and it bothers me all day.

Shadow: Am I like that sometimes? Is it in me to treat people that way? Our negative shadow contains all that we strongly dislike in ourselves but sometimes can’t see. We tend to detest in them exactly what we disown in us. (Our positive shadow holds our untapped potential. We admire in others what is buried and unaware in us.)

Ego: We become enraged because someone have spoken to us in that manner. “Don’t they know who I AM?” This statement gives us a clear view that our entitled controlling ego is out of balance and we are angry at not getting our own way.

Or, Early life re-enactment: “My mother talked to me this way and it hurt.” The sharpness is the voice today may be triggering a reminder of a past experience or wound.

Your reaction is likely to be your shadow if you cannot believe you could ever be like that. It is likely to be your ego if you think “how dare they…” And it is often past experiences if you feel grief or powerless or if later you become obsessed with your reaction or the event.

How do you S.E.E. things?

Well here we are, three lines in to the offering formula and about to start on the fourth and last.

Well here we are, three lines in to the offering formula and about to start on the fourth and last. And here it is:

en ka en imakhy Senwosret, maa-kheru: for the ka of the revered one Senwosret, true of voice.

Sound like anyone you know? Do you revere the colleague whose card or whiteboard you are embellishing? Are they known for their honesty, the accuracy of their pronouncements or their karaoke prowess? Never mind, it’s only a formula. Let’s look at the first bit of it.

en ka en: for the ka of. Let’s do the easy bit first. The Sherlock Holmeses among you will instantly have deduced that the squiggly lines top and bottom correspond to the en.

Elementary. And speaking of elements, the squiggly line in hieroglyphs represents the watery one. It’s a ripple of water:

See the resemblance? We’ve already seen wavy lines representing water, in the post on wabet. But we haven’t had them as the actual letter n. Here’s an original:

It’s a zigzag line. What else is there to say? The ka, on the other hand…

The Egyptians didn’t have souls. Or rather, they didn’t just have single souls. The deceased Egyptian exploded into a whole menagerie of afterlife entities: the body, the shadow, the akh (a heron-like bird with a lamp who circled the skies with the stars), the ba (a human-headed bird that hung around the necropolis and twittered mournfully – they’ve made a comeback on the Internet lately) and the ka, or life force.

The ka had its advantages and disadvantages. A disadvantage was that it was confined to the tomb, unlike the ba and the akh. Maybe it kicked the ba and the akh out, so it could get some elbow room, with the body and the shadow. Maybe that was why the ba twittered mournfully. The advantage was that the ka got to ascend the burial shaft, come out through the false door into the offering chapel and feast upon the food and drink brought by the family or magically invoked by the passer-by. The ka was the life force, and it fed upon the life force of the food. But we’ve been through all this before.

The hieroglyph for ka is a pair of upraised arms, as found on the head of this royal ka statue:

What a beautiful, slender yet well moulded pair of arms and shoulders, and delicate, detailed hands. They didn’t always put so much work into the hieroglyphs,

although they have taken care to paint this ka the dark red colour they used for male skin (men being more likely to be outdoors than women, and therefore more tanned). I draw my kas very simply: three straight lines plus a little crescent at each end for the hands.

NB: this ka is not to be confused with the ka meaning bull of a few posts ago. Katie Hughes tweeted a good idea about that some time ago: kh1369 @SusanLlewellyn Egyptians would be sustaining the ka (“spirit”) with ka (meat)? What a multi-purpose word! Also, is “kau” like “cow”? Easy! She’s great at making these connections.

“You’re always telling me I’m projecting—you’re projecting!”
— from The Sopranos

I learned the hard way how we often project our unrecognized negative traits—our shadow—onto another person or group. It’s been a painful but valuable lesson—often repeated.

But not until I read Robert A. Johnson’s Owning Your Own Shadow, did I realize we may also project our unrecognized positive traits—our “positive” shadow.

That would seem counter-intuitive. Why should I want to disown my positive traits? Well, if I claim them, then I have to act on them. Or else, accept that I’m not living up to my potential.

Since we’re often unaware of these projections, our dreams can be a key way to recognize them. Johnson gives this example in his book:

“Early in my analysis I had a startling dream in which I ate Albert Schweitzer, a hero of mine at the time. If one can reduce the exaggerated quality of the dream, it was saying that I must accept a Schweitzer-like quality of my own and stop projecting it onto an outer hero…

“At the time I wondered, ‘How is it possible to live out so many aspects of the human personality?’ Schweitzer had doctorates in music, medicine, and philosophy and was a great humanitarian. He was clearly a Renaissance man. Yet I could not let him carry my own potential; it was up to me to follow my own interests—music, psychology, and healing—and combine them to the best of my abilities.”
