When words are
Too heavy
When the darkness is
Flesh against flesh
Warm and tender
Under llamas wool

Come and go
Like fingertips

Grazing temples
And souls

Between us

Unbound
One light in the shadows

Till breaking dawn

The hate
Despair
And fear

Firenze d'autunno - Copyright 2008 Pega

Today at work, I was able to observe for a while, a man standing outside the doors of the mall (the temple of consumtion). In our town there is a magazine that’s made with the purpose of helping those who have a hard time getting their life together for different reasons. The articles are about social issues, and also about these people, in an effort to help people see the individuals behind the problem.
Half of the price goes to the seller, and the rest goes to make the magazine.

I think this is one of those genius win-win ideas that make our world a little better. The person selling is able to work and get paid, while also getting to talk to people and at least lower some of the walls we often seem to raise when people don’t fit into our frame of mind. The people reading the articles get a nuanced picture of what life is really like on the rougher side, and hopefully they gain some understanding and compassion for their neighbours.

This is already enough to make me very hopeful about the state of our community, but my spirit was lifted even further today as I stood there watching this salesman. In the brief period I observed him, several people bought the magazine, but more importantly, there were also people stopping just to chat and say hello for a second. That’s just wonderful!

The big risk for these people is to lead an isolated life in the shadows, being ignored by others and thus feeling like they don’t exist. Just a nod and a hello is actually enough to show this person that he exists and that I respect him. (See also the earlier post “By this roadside”)
And most of all, it confirms his worth as a human regardless of his circumstances, and that’s worth more than money in my book.

[Thanks Alicia]

Many of the most popular hats for summer wear have very large rims, they come in several different s

Many of the most popular hats for summer wear have very large rims, they come in several different styles. Women’s sun hats are the female cowboy hats of modern times. Sun hats can be simple, as well as elegant to wear—depending on the look you want. Designed especially for protection from the sun—weather at the park or the beach or the pool—don’t avoid the outdoors for fear of harmful UV rays! Of course, you will still want to wear sunscreen—but there is much less to worry about if you wear a sun hat too.

Summer beach hats need enough of a rim to put the face almost if not completely in the shade. Some of the best selling sun hats of this season are listed below—but they are only some of what the are out there on the market:

1) Adventure hats:

They have a distinctive safari look—but are designed in an unmistakably feminine style. There are more than one style of these adventure beach hats in design. Some are flat on one end—like a visor, and softer (more fabric-like and flexible) on the other. Perfect for a beach hat to wear on a safari or other summer adventure. So if this is your style—find the one best for you!

2) Catalina beach hats:

These cute little beach hats are dome-shaped on top and have a wide, circular rim—sure to block away the sun.

3) Resort- style vacation hats:

These elegant beauties have softer tops and visor-style rims in front that go a bit further than a visor and then the rim softens around the back—so it will also protect your neck. The best feature of the resort- style sun hat is the scarf that ties around it above the rim and hangs gently down over the back. Most sun hats will come with a scarf but are interchangeable—you can use whatever scarf you want. It is like having several beach hats in one. Bring several scarves on your vacation to match each outfit instead of several beach hats to match every outfit. Now, does that not sound easier?

4) The Belle sun hat:

These breathtaking summertime hats are sexy and fun. They are my favorite kinds of sun hats. They will give you that ultimate stylish look for all your summer occasions. The design is simple and very elegant. With a dome-shaped top and a soft rim, they are perfect for accomplishing a very elegant beachside look. The rim is longer and more flowing in the back, with a sturdier rim in the front.

There are many types of sun hats though. I have listed only a few of them.

The measurement of time has been a consideration since the beginning of time itself. Its importance

The measurement of time has been a consideration since the beginning of time itself. Its importance is not just confined to man but animals and even insects. Birds watch to know when its time to migrate to warmer areas, caterpillars undergo changes inside their cocoons while waiting for the time to emerge. Ants scurry about in the spring and summer, busily gathering and storing provisions to stave off hunger during the winter months and bears eat as much as they can before going into hibernation and sleeping until the spring arrives.

From the earliest beginnings of man, time has also been an important consideration. It started by watching the sun and the lengthening of shadows in order to calculate when night was about to fall. Watching the days grow shorter harkened the beginning of winter and the need to don animal skins to keep warm. Eventually the sundial was invented to make it a bit easier. Never satisfied, man came up with mechanical timepieces to further be able to break down hours into minutes and then into seconds. These timepieces were named watches.

One can only assume that the word watch is symbolic of how important it has become to watch the time. There are so many things to do in one day that it’s important to be able to create an effective schedule that only time management will be able to achieve.

As watches have become more popular, the fashion industry has hopped on the timekeeping bandwagon and decided that if one is to wear a watch it should be in line with current fashion trends or be classic enough to pass down through generations without the latest wearer having to worry about it being out of style. Now, instead of just a timepiece with a plain band, you can get watches that are studded in diamonds, rubies or other types of jewels or bands made of metal, leather and even plastic.

Citizen’s watches have been one of the leaders in the timepiece industries, creating fashionable watches with ever evolving mechanical accuracy. Established in 1924, they have continued to come up with ways to make watches even more effective, yet stylish enough to attract those with even the most discriminating tastes.

They were the first to create thin watches which were preferable to the large bulky ones, they then made shock resistant watches which lessened the need for watches to be constantly repairs. Their most recent achievement is the analog quartz watch which gathers its energy from the sun which makes it environmentally friendly. It is also cost effective because the need to replace the battery has been eradicated.

For 80 years, Citizens watches have graced the wrist of many men and women. They have constantly found a way to revolutionize the watch industry and will probably continue to do so for years to come.
