First off….apologies for the lack of posts this past week….two words explain it….”Mafia Wars”. Are you on Facebook? Some one of your friends has to have sent you an invite to play. DON’T DO IT!!!!!! You start out thinking, “This is silly….”…..and two whole days later you realize you haven’t showeredin 48 hours…….have barely eaten….and count down the hours in the amount of time left til you can regain your energy to rob, pilage….Rob’s staging an intervention for me right now…..

Anywho………

STELLA GOT A NEW DO!!!!!!!!! She was looking a little shaggy…..you could barely see her cute little eyes. Her last cut was at the end of June. Saturday we were braving a day of torrential rain….and I decided….”Stella…you’re going to have a spa day!!!”

Wait a minute....I remember this.....

I called Paws Applause….and wonderful folks that they are……they said, “Bring her on over!” They’re a super busy place, but they managed to squeeze our girl in. So into the car the Schnoodle went….and off to the groomer’s.

"You totally tricked me again...You said we were going for a ride....I thought it was to the Dog Park Mama!

It’s a dilemma what to do with a cut for her….being a Schnauzer/Poodle mix…we could go with a lot of different cuts. I like her a little shaggy….I don’t want a formal “breed specific” cut and the folks at Paws Applause are great! I explain what “Look” we’re going for…..and Wah Lah……..this is what we get back……

Um. Mama....I feel silly.

No, they didn’t send her home with Pink hair……they’re professionals….and very nice people…….this is Mama’s idea of a fun afternoon.

It’s a classic sight: a busker plays a John Denver evergreen while a scruffy dog feigns to sleep next to an upturned hat.

Since the invention of the sidewalk, buskers have been accompanied by man’s best friend (or in some cases the busker’s only friend).

Though you may look pityful doing your busker thing, there is nothing more heartbreaking than a dog that has to spend it’s life alongside a street performer. And when people feel bad about something, they tend to ease their pain by donating money.

A scruffy dog by your side increases your income. In fact, if you were really honest you had to split the nickle harvest from your guitar case 90%-10%, where 90% goes to your dog.

It's all a question of talent

Sad looking busker dogs attract more people to your performance than those fancy jazz chords no-one seems to notice you incorporate in your songs. But there’s a catch. Remember the anti-humour joke about the shaggy dog? (You can read it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaggy_dog_story). The dog shouldn’t be TOO shaggy. That will just scare people away, afraid to catch a disease when they come too close.

Here are some guidelines in chosing a dog that’s a fit companion of a busker and the increase/loss of income associated with the dogs features.

This dog won't make you more money

- Damaged or missing tail: +10% (uncapable of wagging a tail makes a dog look sad)
- Damaged or missing an ear: +10% (looks like he’s been into a fight and lost or possibly had a rough childhood)
- Missing an eye: -10% (a gaping hole in a dogs skull won’t lure kids into throwing you money)
- Wearing a scarf: +10% (enhanced cutenessfactor “Oh, he thinks he’s people!”)
- Bad fur day: +20% (a healthy fur suggests a nice warm home with a bathtub)
- Missing leg: -25% for each paw missing
- Droopy eyes: +25% (this is really one of the best features your dog can have)
- Being able to play dead for hours: +20% (people will think malnutrition took all the life out of the mutt)
- Being skinny: +10% (this is a tricky one. A bit skinny is good, very skinny makes you look like an animal abuser and loses you 50%)
- Being of indiscernible breed: +15% (the cheaper the bastard (sic) looks, the poorer you seem)

His Fuzziness approaches

Between book designing, painting, World Cup, and the spring dressage scene here in California, I realize that Tinto has been missing from my blog scene for a while.

To his fans, Tinto sends his regards. And expects a cookie, please.

As you can see in his pictures, his coat is in the “sheep” phase. People keep commenting on how big he’s gotten: I just reply that underneath all that hair is the same skinny little dog. He’s wearing his collar on the last hole right now because his fur is so thick. And I know it’s time to clip him because when it’s warm he stops playing his version of Tinto-ball after a few minutes, and usually you have to pry him off the thing when playtime is over.

So welcome to Tinto’s day: first we chase the ducks off the studio roof. They come up from Lake San Marcos, hoping for something besides pond water. For about a week our pool cover was stuck in the open position, and the ducks thought that our pool was their personal spa…. Let’s just say I was glad that the water was too cold to swim in anyway. Then there is napping in the studio or office, depending on what’s on the work agenda for the day. Eventually lunch happens, and then there’s more sleeping to be done. When the mail comes, we go on “the cheese leash” to the mailbox: he will follow any command, including sticking to my ankle and paying no heed to birds, lizards or fascinating smells, when I say “heel”, as long as I have a piece of cheese in my hand.

Then there’s playtime with the Big Ball (see below) unless Axel and I play tennis, in which case Tinto is the “ball dog.” I kid you not, he retrieves every ball that hits the net or the fence, then deposits them in a pile under the chairs. No, we did not teach him this. The balls get a little moist, so we have to play with two cans at a time. The only problem is when he starts to go after balls that are still in play. He doesn’t understand the difference between a ball that’s about to flop into the net and one that just puffed over…. You know, the one that I’m racing full tilt for until the Projectile Terrier snatches it out of the path of my racquet. But those are rare. We have Tinto rules when he’s on the court, and you’re always allowed to call a Doggy Do Over.

One of these days we’ll play when someone else is around with a camera. Until then, you’ll just have to use your imagination!

Sejarah Reggae Di Indonesia

Di Indonesia, beberapa nama yang terkenal dalam dunia musik reggae antara lain Tony Q, Steven & Coconut Treez, Joni Agung (Bali), New Rastafara, dan Heru ’Shaggy Dog’ (Yogyakarta) dan masih banyak lagi bermunculan band-band baru.

Sekitar tahun 1986, musik reggae mulai dikumandangkan di Indonesia. Band itu adalah Black Company, sebuah band dengan genre reggae. Kemudian beberapa tahun kemudian muncul Asian Roots yang merupakan turunan dari band sebelumnya. Lantas ada pula Asian Force, Abresso dan Jamming.

Keberadaan musik reggae di Indonesia terkesan terpinggirkan. Apalagi kesan yang diperoleh ketika seseorang melihat penampilan para musisi reggae yang terkesan urakan. Bahkan, ada idiom yang hingga kini membuatnya yaitu reggae identik dengan narkoba.

Apakah reggae identik dengan narkoba? Inil salah penafsiran sahaja. Sebut saja nama Tony Q yang dengan tegas bahwa reggae-nya adalah menitikberatkan pada cinta damai. Bila ditilik dari sejarahnya memang demikian yaitu identik dengan ‘ital’ –Ganja—sebut saja lagu Petertosh Let Jah Be praised, Mystic man, Legalized it dll. Yang begitu mengagungkan ganja sebagai alat seorang rastaman bersatu dengan Jah atau tuhan mereka. Memang tidak bisa dipungkiri pandangan negatif tentang musik ini.

Sebenarnya tidak demikian gerakan rastafari adalah sebuah gerakan besar yang terdiri banyak sekte bahkan tidak mengikat, artinya seseorang bebas menentukan jalan hidupnya tetapi tetap mengakui Rastafari Makonnen sebagai Messias baru. Bahkan di Jamaika seorang Rastafarian adalah seorang vegetarian tulen. Jika seorang Peter Tosh atau Bob Marley dengan lirik-liriknya yang berbau ganja hanya disebabkan mereka menemukan bahwa itulah suatu jalan menuju kedamaian batinnya saja, disamping makanan ital dan ganja adalah budaya Africa yang menurut mereka sebagai sesuatu yang harus dirangkul kembali.

Dalam ajaran rasta tidak ada yang mengharuskan meng-ganja. Atau meng-gimbal, itu hanyalah pemikiran tentang perangkulan budaya Africa yang dianggap rendah oleh kulit putih, dan pengikut ajaran ini ingin membuktikan bahwa budaya ini tidaklah rendah.

Can Wilby break the spell and foil a team of international spies, or will both he and his dad wind up in the doghouse? Packed with sidesplitting antics, slapstick chases, and hilarious sight gags, this madcap adventure will tickle the funny bone of every two- (and four-) footed member of your family!

Unlike the fly in the 1958 horror classic, they never really explain what happens to the neighbor’s sheepdog when young Wilby Daniels trades places with it. The dog just vanishes, or is subsumed or assumed or something, leaving Wilby (Tommy Kirk) to explain to his dog-hating, allergic, mailman father (Fred MacMurray) that he’s turned into a canine. The Shaggy Dog seems like the first instance of Disney packaging, as most of the principals were either Mouseketeers or had been in the short Disney segment Spin and Marty or a previous Disney film. As successful as The Absent Minded Professor for humor, Dog follows Wilby and a rival as they vie for the hand of the new French girl in school, and the girl next door (Annette Funicello). The exchanges with Wilby’s younger brother, Moochie (Kevin Corcoran), who always wanted a family dog, are alone worth the price of the tape. Indeed the most successful element of this overall endearing film is the re-pairing of the two actors as brothers (they had done so before in 1957’s Old Yeller). This is family fare that’s diverting without pandering, a feat that the later Disney regime would have a difficult time re-creating. –Keith Simanton

BILANCIO DELLA SETTIMANA: RaiUno (che vantava anche un inedito del “Commissario Montalbano”) distacca ancora di un punto percentuale Canale 5, penalizzata da alcune sconfitte (tra l’altro “Raccontami – Capitolo II” ha superato nelle due serate di programmazione “Distretto di Polizia 8″ ed il nuovo talent show musicale “E’ nata una stella… gemella”). RaiDue in una settimana senza Champions League supera ancora Italia 1, che guadagna però terreno grazie all’ascesa del reality “La talpa” e al film in prima visione “The Departed – Il bene e il male” con Leonardo DiCaprio. RaiTre scende al quinto posto (“Chi l’ha visto?”, “Mi manda RaiTre” e “Ballarò” vanno peggio che in passato), ma supera ancora Rete 4. In calo gli altri canali terrestri e satellitari, anch’essi privi della Champions League settimanale ma forti dell’anticipo infrasettimanale di Serie A di calcio Juventus-Genoa.
