Erhältlich im Media Markt ist auch der Sampler “Reggae Jam Vol. 1″, welcher zwar weder offen homophob noch indiziert ist, wohl aber Musiker aus dem Genre der von uns so betitelten “Hassmusik” supportet. Neben kommerziell auch sehr erfolgreichen Musikern wie Shaggy oder UB40 finden sich auf der Zusammenstellung also auch Stücke von Beenie Man und Buju Banton.

Zusammen mit  Musikern wie Capleton und Sizzla gehören Beenie Man und Buju Banton zur Speerspitze menschenverachtender Musik. 

Unter anderem im Rahmen der Stop Murder Music Kampagne wurden Beenie Man´s Lieder wegen offener Antihomosexualität kritisiert. Sie enthalten laut Amnesty International USA Zeilen wie: „I’m dreaming of a new Jamaica, come to execute all the gays“ („Ich träume von einem neuen Jamaika, wo sämtliche Schwulen hingerichtet werden“). Er wird unter anderem vom deutschen Lesben- und Schwulenverband als Mitverursacher für eine Hetzkampagne gegen Schwule in Jamaika verantwortlich gemacht, die zu einem schwulenfeindlichen Klima beitrage, dessen Auswirkungen bis zu brutalen Morden reichten, da der in seinen „Songs offen zum gay bashing (Schwulenklatschen) und gar zur Tötung schwuler Männer [aufruft]“^.

Als Reaktion auf diese Kritik, die unter anderem in den USA zu Konzertabsagen durch MTV und Virgin führte, wiesen seine Konzertveranstalter auf Beenie Mans Unterschrift unter den so genannten Reggae Compassionate Act hin, mit der er sich von homophoben Liedtexten distanziert hätte. In Jamaika bestritt Beenie Man im Juli 2007 diese Selbstverpflichtung (“And mi neva sign it, yuh hear sah.”) und erklärte zugleich, dass es keinen Bedarf an homophob motivierte Gewalt und Morde gebe, aber dass er einen „schwulen Lebensstil“ nicht unterstütze, weil er diesen für unheilvoll halte: „We don’t need to kill dem. We just need fi tell the people dem the right ting because I not supporting a gay lifestyle because it’s not wholesome to me.“ Manche Beobachter in der jamaikanischen Presse sehen in seiner Aussage, es sei nicht nötig, Schwule zu töten, die Aussage, es sei “falsch”, dies zu tun.

Buju Banton veröffentlicht Stücke wie Boom Bye Bye, in dem es heißt:

The world is in trouble

Anytime Buju Banton come

Batty boy get up and run

ah gunshot in ah head man

Tell dem crew… it’s like

Boom bye bye, in a batty boy head,

Rude boy nah promote no nasty man,

them hafi dead.

Batty Boy ist eine Ausdrucksweise der Jamaikanischen Kreolsprache (Patois), die einen homosexuellen Mann beschreibt. In Boom Bye Bye fordert Banton also die regelrechte Hinrichtung (Schuss in den Kopf) homosexueller Menschen. Auch in jüngerer Zeit, als geplante Konzerte in Deutschland bekannt wurden, kam es zu Protesten, Konzertabsagen und einer Kampagne des LSVD (Lesben- und Schwulenverband in Deutschland e.V.).

Auch nach Druck seines Labels entschuldigte Banton sich nicht für diesen Text und reihte sich neben zum Beispiel Bounty Killer und Beenie Man in die Liste der Autoren homophober Lyrics ein. In Folge dessen engagierte sich Banton allerdings für die Benutzung von Kondomen. Ein entsprechender Tune findet sich mit Willy Don’t Be Silly dann auch auf dem 1993 auf Mercury veröffentlichten Longplayer Voice of Jamaica, mit dessen Erscheinen auch die Stiftung Willy ins Leben gerufen wird, die sich um HIV-positive Kinder kümmert.

Nach dem Tod eines engen Freundes, der 1995 bei einer Schießerei ums Leben kam, wandelte sich Banton vom Jungkünstler mit offensiven Texten zu einem bekennenden Rastafari, der sich in seinen Liedern von Slackness- und Gunlyrics abwendet und zunehmend spirituelle und gesellschaftliche Umstände thematisiert.

Buju Banton kann sich bis heute nicht gänzlich der Kontroverse vor allem um Boom Bye Bye entziehen, da er – ungeachtet verschiedener Proteste – in Jamaika noch immer teilweise homophobe Texte singt. Außerdem wird er beschuldigt, fortgesetzt und tatkräftig in die seiner Meinung nach durch seine Religion gerechtfertigte Diskriminierung homosexueller Männer einzustimmen.

Nach vehementen Protesten u.a. deutscher Schwulen- und Lesben-Organisationen gegen seine Battyman-Tunes wurde 2004 die Hälfte der in jenem Jahr angesetzten Auftritte in Deutschland abgesagt.

2006 meldete er sich nach 2-jähriger Pause mit dem Album Too Bad zurück. Mit Too Bad findet Banton zurück zu seinen musikalischen Wurzeln: Es ist sein erstes reines Dancehall-Album seit 1993 und wurde für den Grammy unter “Bestes Reggae-Album 2007″ nominiert.

Die Bundesregierung prüfte 2008 eine Indizierung seiner Platten.

What UB40 was doing ten years earlier really kind of peaked in the mid-to-late 90s and this is one of the best examples of reggae-influenced popular music from the 90s. And it’s yet another example of a soundtrack-sourced song scoring big, this time from the Angela Bassett film, How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

Jamaican superstar Shaggy (Orville Burrell) and “King of the Dancehall” Beenie Man (Anthony Moses David) have been making a difference in children’s lives through their art. Earlier this year, Shaggy and his group of friends held a charity concert to buy much-needed equipment for the Bustamante Hospital for Children. They are now preparing for the second charity event. The 2010 charity concert, “Shaggy and Friends I Dare You 2010,” will be held on January 2 at Jamaica House.

Shaggy and his team, sponsors, employees of Bustamante Hospital, and Beenie Man were at the hospital for the launch of their next charity concert. ” A smiling Shaggy made an early appearance to greet his now extended family for the concert that last year raised J$27 million.

This year, according to presenter Dr. David McBean, CEO of CVM-TV, the concert organizers and sponsors’ aim is to raise J$50 million. With that goal in mind, various sponsors have stepped forward. Several businesses and banks have already pledged funds. Digicel, KFC, Sagicor, Stewart’s Auto, Bank of Nova Scotia, and Wisynco have together donated 11 million Jamaican dollars. Red Stripe has also pledged its support alongside a number of other companies.

So much has happened these past few days that I don’t know how to go about talking about it. Mainly this is because I still hold a lot of pain in my heart regarding the death of my dog, Cosmo. We had to put him to rest yesterday afternoon at about 4:25 PM at age 14. I’d like to dedicate this post to commemorate him. He was a great dog whom brought joy and happiness to my family’s home for 9 years and will continue to live within our hearts for as long as we live.

I love you so much, Cosmo! I hope you are having a wonderful time in doggy heaven with your sister, Cleo. Tell her I’ve missed her dearly, my love.

Well, how should I start? Should I start off with how I baked muffins, didn’t calculate the calories, and ate one with my family on Saturday? Or should I mention that I tasted my first Almond Joy in two years (I thought it was too sweet) and didn’t feel TOO guilty that night too? Or maybe I should let you all know that I plan on actually making my calorie goals today? Or that I adopted a new kitten named Pie?

Goodness me, I just have so much to share!

Sunday morning started off with a delightful bowl of oatmeal. I cooked a 1/2 c. in hemp milk & rose water with 1/2 a almond trail mix Honest Foods bar. Then I topped it with soy nuts, sunflower seeds, a kiwi, cottage cheese, and strawberry jelly. I enjoyed a mug of hot chocolate on the side.

I had to get ready within about 3 segundos (seconds in spanish) and frolick with my mom, Tia, and Tio at the yearly Renaissance Festival. Unfortunately, I got no pictures there since my camera was “broken” and my Tio and Tia forgot theirs. Turns out my camera wasn’t broken but my rechargeable batteries were, and that is why my lens wasn’t working properly. Thank goodness my cammie is okay… my parents just do not have the money to buy me a new camera right now, and what would have happened to my blog without a camera? :O

Bad things.

I challenged myself to an old favorite at the festival, a Think Thin bar. I used to eat those all the time during refeeding in April thanks to the high calorie count, but grew afraid of them over the summer as ED crept back in. But… they’re back!I may be going back this weekend since the theme changes every week and I want the rest of my family to experience it. Hopefully I will see the boy who worked at the German pastry stand, the one I played “eyesies” with, again!

Everything was well that day until I stayed home and ate chili. I sat to rot in the kitchen with my Eating Disorder instead of eating an extra tbsp. or two of PB.

Not a single time that week did I make my calorie goal, thanks to ED’s lies. I was spiraling deeper into him. I felt depressed. I felt hopeless. I felt low.

Why does ED trick us all the time? It tells us it is our friend, but it simply lies. And lies do not make friends… yet we never cease to take its hand and follow it when it make false remarks like this:

“Well, since you didn’t work out today… you have the right to restrict.”

“Your vital signs are normal so you don’t need to gain weight.”

“Since you don’t need to gain weight (see above), you don’t need to make your calorie goals.”

“You probably underestimated the calories in your lunch anyway, so go ahead and shave off some calories at dinner or snack time.”

THIS IS ALL BULLSHIT. If ED says any words along these lines, ring the alarm! Call out “fire!” Ask a family member for help! Snap some sense back into yourself!

Or you’ll end up on massive ED probation like me (not fun) thanks to the negative effects your body will show. I’m fighting my way back to be trusted again though. And that is what counts.

Meet Pie, the 4 month old Tabby!

Twas a Monday afternoon the moment Pie and Karina met. A ball of fluff that lodged in a cage, just begging to be adopted, lured Karina in and got its only wish.

The second her dark chocolate eyes met Pie’s butterscotch eyes, she knew it was love. Her motherly instincts took over as she took the baby into her arms and whispered,

“You’re as sweet as pie now, aren’t you?”

When she placed the pet carrier inside her mother’s white van, she knew she’d picked the right one. The right one to pass her love on to and become a part of the family.

No one would take the special place of her poodle Cosmo in her heart, but someone could create their own special place within it and receive a bounty of love… which is just what Pie wanted.

Wednesday.

I realize that I jumped from Monday to today, but Tuesday (yesterday) is really not a day I am ready to talk about. The loss of my dog is still too tender a subject to touch.

In the bowl: 2 Weetabix biscuits, 1/2 c. Lucky Layla drinkable Mango yogurt, and a crumble Key Lime Pie Larabar. On the side: 1 egg & 1 white and a slice of hemp bread spread with almond butter. Washed it down with a glass of soy milk.

I visited both my psychologist and my nutritionist yesterday. They both agreed that ED had gotten the best of me that week (and the week before) and that if I wanted to let go of ED without IP, I’d have to increase my weight at a steady rate. No more of those UPdownUPdownUPdown shenanigans I’d been pulling.

I walked out of both appointments with a sense of empowerment.

The nutritionist said there was no ballet unless I made the 2XXX calories that day.

I made those calories today and I am damn proud. ED can go to hell. I will never stop dancing.

For lunch I enjoyed a delicious bowl of kidney beans with vegetarian italian sausage chunks topped with cheese straws. Carrots on the side.

My mother made broccoli cheese pizza calzones for my Tio and Tia’s anniversary tonight. They were so delicious! Not only were they delicious, but they were a challenge. A challenge that nourished me and helped me dance

I can hear Sanura attacking Pie from my bedroom so I am off to rescue the baby!

I think this story will turn into a very funny movie one day. I’m willing to bet my bank’s money on it. Here’s how it got reported on the news:

“The FBI in Denver is on the lookout for a serial bank robber dubbed the ‘Shaggy Bandit’ for his resemblance to cartoon canine Scooby-Doo’s human sidekick…According to the FBI, the Shaggy Bandit enters a bank, approaches a teller and demands money. He displays a backpack and generally gets the money (!) and is out the door before any customers even know what is happening.”

He generally gets the money?? Just by asking? Never mind that demanding money from your bank, technically speaking, isn’t a robbery. I thought the point of calling it a robbery is that it is forced. The guy enters the bank, doesn’t carry a weapon nor does he display one. He demands money as in “Scooby-Doo me your money” or who knows what the magic words are, and just like that he gets it!?

J u s t – l i k e – t h a t? Awesome!

Some people might wonder if this is possible. It’s true our government spent billions to bail out the banks. With so much money sitting around in the vaults, this guy might be showing us the fastest way to get it back into the economy.

It wouldn’t surprise me if our banks are so flooded with taxpayers’ money and so confused what to do with it, they are simply giving it away.

This guy is either too brilliant or working for Sacha Cohen on Borat’s sequel and why not? a book called “How to ask your bank to give you money and generally get it..’

Can you imagine Sacha Cohen playing the Shaggy-Bandit when this whole thing becomes a movie?

This is a heck of a story. I bet my money this will become a great movie. I ‘m so sure about it, I will go raise my bank’s money to prove it.
