STRAIGHT TALK

It seems to me that we have very clear priorities to attend to if we are to survive on planet earth very much longer.

First and foremost is climate change. We either admit the problem and deal with it, stopping all practices that work against that end, by force, if necessary, or we perish. Society should triumph over individuals in this regard. Personal profit is totally unimportant against survival. What happened to the buggy whip manufacturers when the automobile replaced the horse? They retooled or died. Whatever. Get a damned clue.

Second, we cannot sustain the present form of huge international corporate mega-capitalism. It is an out of control monster: a willful environmental vampire and oppressor of human rights. Its rulers and masters make sociopathic decisions on a daily basis. As they control costs both quality and choice disappear from the marketplace. They tend to baronies, monopolies, and mini-kingdoms serving the pissant egos of self-styled “giants of commerce.” They are moribund, sucking ghouls, parasites on the planet and body politic. They are the great corrupters of mankind and despoilers of the earth.

Third, put religion in its rightful place, not in the government. If the marching morons of the western religious traditions stopped momentarily to exercise even the barest minimum of individual thought, they would immediately realize that in structure, purpose and results, the forces they support fulfill the mission of the Anti-Christ or its sectarian apocalyptic equivalent. The marching morons are the people prophesied who follow the WRONG master, necessitating and aiding the Arch Fiend’s attack on all virtue and goodness in the world. They are the armies of Satan, Shaitan, the bad guy. The marching morons are ignorant superstitious dupes who hurt other people at the direction of their sick as hell masters.

Fourth, if we wish to progress in a positive and healthful manner, we must liberate the females of our species and educate the children to a rational, scientific and progressive frame of mind. We do not want to crowd young impressionable minds with superstitions, myths or self-destructive and debasing philosophies. This will do more to eliminate the physical, mental and emotional abuse that has characterized our species’ formation and created the corrupt and destructive society we inhabit today than any other measure. We can do so much better, and it begins with free self-directing women and smart well-loved children.

There is more, but this is a fair start. Just wanted to put these four points out for consideration and possible personal ACTION. We really don’t have any more time to waste. KOKO, j

Obama Quietly Backs Patriot Act Provisions by William Fisher Inter Press Service

NEW YORK – With the health care debate preoccupying the mainstream media, it has gone virtually unreported that the Barack Obama administration is quietly supporting renewal of provisions of the George W. Bush-era USA Patriot Act that civil libertarians say infringe on basic freedoms.

And it is reportedly doing so over the objections of some prominent Democrats.

When a panicky Congress passed the act 45 days after the terrorist attacks of Sep. 11, 2001, three contentious parts of the law were scheduled to expire at the end of next month, and opponents of these sections have been pushing Congress to substitute new provisions with substantially strengthened civil liberties protections.

But with the apparent approval of the Obama White House and a number of Republicans – and over the objections of liberal Senate Democrats including Russ Feingold of Wisconsin and Dick Durbin of Illinois – the Senate Judiciary Committee has voted to extend the three provisions with only minor changes.

Those provisions would leave unaltered the power of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to seize records and to eavesdrop on phone calls and e-mail in the course of counterterrorism investigations. READ MORE:

Antarctic Ice Loss Vaster, Faster Than Thought: Study The Independent/UK

The East Antarctic icesheet, once seen as largely unaffected by global warming, has lost billions of tonnes of ice since 2006 and could boost sea levels in the future, according to a new study.

Published Sunday in Nature Geoscience, the same study shows that the smaller but less stable West Antarctic icesheet is also shedding significant mass.

Scientists worry that rising global temperatures could trigger a rapid disintegration of West Antarctica, which holds enough frozen water to push up the global ocean watermark by about five metres (16 feet).

In 2007 the UN Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) predicted sea levels would rise 18 to 59 centimetres (7.2 to 23.2 inches) by 2100, but this estimate did not factor in the potential impact of crumbling icesheets in Greenland and Antarctica.

Today many of the same scientist say that even if heat-trapping CO2 emissions are curtailed, the ocean watermark is more likely to go up by nearly a metre, enough to render several small island nations unlivable and damage fertile deltas home to hundreds of millions. READ MORE:

Climate Change Sceptics and Lobbyists Put World at Risk, says Top Adviser by David Adam The Guardian/UK

Chance to limit warming squandered, says scientist. World needs to prepare to cope with at least 3-4C rise.

Climate change sceptics and fossil fuel companies that have lobbied against action on greenhouse gas emissions have squandered the world’s chance to avoid dangerous global warming, a key adviser to the government has said.

Professor Bob Watson, chief scientist at the Department for Environment and Rural Affairs, said a decade of inaction on climate change meant it was now virtually impossible to limit global temperature rise to 2C. He said the delay meant the world would now do well to stabilise warming between 3C and 4C.

His comments come ahead of key UN negotiations on a new global climate treaty in Copenhagen next month that the UK government insists should still aim for a 2C goal, despite doubts over whether a meaningful deal can be sealed.

In an interview with the Guardian, Watson said: “Those that have opposed a deal on climate, which would include elements of the fossil fuel industry, have clearly made making a 2C target much, much harder, if not impossible. They’ve clearly put the world at risk of far more adverse effects of climate change.” READ MORE:

Bernie Sanders Pushes Back On Public Option by Ryan Grim Huffington Post

While conservative members of the Democratic caucus threaten to block passage of health care reform if it includes a public health insurance option, a growing chorus of liberal lawmakers are making similar threats if the bill doesn’t have one.

Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont who caucuses with Democrats, said in a statement on Sunday that the bill must have a strong public option to win his vote.

“I strongly suspect that there are a number of senators, including myself, who would not support final passage without a strong public option,” he said. Not supporting final passage, however, is different than vowing to filibuster it and prevent it from even getting to a vote on final passage, as independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut is now doing, hoping to strip the public option.

But Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said on Saturday night that if the bill bends toward the conservatives, “You’ll lose people on the left.”

One of those could be Roland Burris (D-Ill.), who said Saturday he’d oppose any bill without a public option. “I won’t vote for it,” he said.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said on Saturday night, after the health care bill passed a major legislative hurdle by a party-line, landslide 60-39 vote, that Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Mary Landrieu (D-La.) are working on crafting a public option compromise that could garner 60 votes.

On Sunday, Schumer predicted that the public option would survive and wind up in the final bill that goes to the president’s desk. READ MORE:

Taking Care of Business: How Big Business Has Hijacked Climate Talks by Oscar Reyes The New Internationalist

A new realism has emerged. Climate change is no longer rejected as a bogus theory the economy can ill afford. Instead, it’s a business opportunity.

A flower blooms under a floodlight. It is projected on to a huge screen, behind a panel of expensively suited executives. A CNN business correspondent struts up and down a catwalk, excitedly thanking UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the ubiquitous Al Gore. The scene of this corporate love-in? The World Business Summit on Climate Change.

‘The fact that I flew here to sit on a panel for one and a half hours, then I´m flying straight back to the US, is an example of our commitment to environmental sustainability,’ boasts Indra Nooyi, CEO of PepsiCo, blissfully unaware of the irony of her statement. Her fellow industry representatives make similar claims about just how energetically they are saving the planet.

This is the new face of the climate business.

Until recently, many of the globe’s biggest corporations were firmly in the climate change denial camp – and funding spurious research to back up their claims. Now a new realism has emerged. Climate change is no longer rejected as a bogus theory the economy can ill afford. Instead, it’s a business opportunity.

Back in the days of George W Bush, the ostrich-headed faction of US industry held sway. Companies like ExxonMobil saw no profits in ‘climate solutions’, so opposed any climate legislation. Now, carbon markets – the buying and selling of the right to pollute – are at the heart of proposals for a new global deal at the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen this December, and the ‘progressive’ wing of big business, backed by large US-based NGOs, argues that this market-driven approach is the only way to secure an international emissions reductions deal.

The problem is, critics say, that carbon markets are delaying genuine action on climate change, and shifting attention away from the fundamental task of rapidly phasing out fossil fuels. How did it come to this? READ MORE:

CHIEF SEALTH: It matters little where we pass the remnant of our days. They will not be many. A few more moons; a few more winters – and not one of the descendents of the mighty hosts that once moved over this broad land or lived in happy homes, protected by the Great Spirit, will remain to mourn over the graves of a people once more powerful and hopeful than yours. But why should I mourn at the untimely fate of my people? Tribe follows tribe, and nation follows nation, and regret is useless. Your time of decay may be distant, but it will surely come, for even the white man whose God walked and talked with him as friend to friend, cannot be exempt from the common destiny. We may be brothers after all. We will see. – Chief Sealth, addressing a treaty negotiating party, 1855.

The Best Days of this World

The Virtues of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijja:

1. Ahadith of the Prophet (s):

قال النبي –صلى الله عليه وسلم-( مامن أيام العمل الصالح فيها أحب إلى الله من هذه الأيام قالوا يا رسول الله : ولا الجهاد في سبيل الله قال ولا الجهاد في سبيل الله إلا رجل خرج بنفسه وماله فلم يرجع من ذلك بشئ) رواه البخاري

The Prophet (s) said: “There are no days in which good deeds are more beloved to Allah than during these days. The Sahaba said: Oh Rasul Allah, not even jihad in the path of Allah? He (s) said: Not even jihad in the path of Allah except for the man who goes out in the path of Allah with his life and his wealth and returns with neither of them.”

وقال ( أفضل أيام الدنيا أيام العشر) رواه البزار وصححه الالبانى.

And he (s) said: “The best days of this world are these ten.”

2. Allah swears by these 10 days in the Qur’an:

قول الله تعالى: ((وَالْفَجْرِ، وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ)) سورة الفجر (1-2)، قال ابن كثير رحمه الله: المراد بها عشر ذي الحجة

Allah says: “By the dawn, and by the 10 nights” [Qur'an, 89:1-2]. Ibn ‘Abbas, Ibn al-Zubayr, Mujahid and others of the earlier and later generations said that this refers to the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. Ibn Katheer said: “This is the correct opinion.”

قال تعالى: ((وَيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَّعْلُومَاتٍ)) سورة الحج(28)، قال ابن عباس: أيام العشر

Allah says: “…and mention the name of Allah on appointed days…” [Qur'an, 22:28] Ibn ‘Abbas said these are the ten days.

3. These ten days are better than Ramadan:

قال المحققون من أهل العلم: أيام عشر ذي الحجة أفضل الأيام، وليالي العشر الأواخر من رمضان أفضل الليالي.

Most scholars adopt the opinion that these days are better than the last ten days of Ramadan. However, what holds the last ten days of Ramadan at a higher status is the Night of Power (Laylat ul-Qadr) which is equivalent to one thousand months (83.33 years).

تضاعف فيها الحسنات قال ابن عباس”: العمل فيهن بسبعمائة ضعف”

The rewards are multiplied in these days. Ibn ‘Abbas said: “(The reward for good) deeds are multiplied seven hundred times in these days.”

قال الاوزاعى: “بلغني أن العمل في أيام العشر كقدر غزوة في سبيل الله يصام نهارها ويحرس ليلها إلا أن يختص امرء بشهادة”

Al Awzaa’i said: I was informed that good deeds during the ten days are the equivalent (in reward) to a battle in the path of Allah, in which the day is spent in fasting and the night in safeguarding, except if one is bestowed with martyrdom.”

In Ramadan doing good deeds and struggling in worship, especially during the last ten nights, is easier than during these days for a few reasons. Firstly, the atmosphere of the month of Ramadan, whether culturally, spiritually, or traditionally, makes it easier to focus and strive. Secondly, the shayateen are chained. So, to get that drive and direction we had in Ramadan, is much harder when we have most likely fallen out of “Ramadan mode.” However, since the `ibada is more difficult, the reward is greater. So let’s keep this in mind and get ready to really work hard.

The Plan of Action for these 10 days:

1. Really feel this blessing and realize that it is an opportunity of a lifetime, because none of us know if we will witness these 10 days again.

كان خالد بن معدان يقول( إذا فتح لأحدكم باب للخير فليسرع فاءنه لا يدرى متى يغلق عنه

Khalid bin Mi’dan used to say: “If the door for good is opened for one of you, then rush (to take advantage) because you don’t know when it will close.”

2. Have high aspirations in your worship and use the examples of the ijtihad of the saliheen as motivation.

3. Take advantage of the opportunities to get the reward of hajj while being elsewhere.

قال-صلى الله عليه وسلم-( من صلى الفجر في جماعة ثم قعد يذكر الله حتى تطلع الشمس ثم صلى ركعتين كانت له كأجر حجة وعمرة تامة تامة تامة

The Prophet (s) said: “Whoever prays fajr in congregation and then sits in remembrance of Allah until the sun rises, then prays two rak’aat, he has the full reward of hajj and `umrah.”

4. Perfecting the fara`idh (obligatory actions):

Often times we become busy trying to do extra deeds, but neglect the fact that perhaps maybe what is obligatory upon us is not at the level it should be. There is no way for a person to become close to Allah other than through the obligatory actions, as is apparent in the famous hadith qudsi in which Allah says: “My servant does not become closer to me by anything more beloved to me than what I have obligated upon him.”

Reasonable Goals:

1. Khatm of Qur’an: equivalent to more than half a million hasanaat during these days. Let’s try to complete the recitation of the Qur’an during these days, ending by ‘Asr time on the day of ‘Arafah and spending from ‘Asr to Magrhib in du’aa.

2. Qiyam al-Layl:

Rasulallah (s) said: “Whoever stands in prayer, reciting 1,000 verses is written among the muqantareen.” A qintar is equal to 70,000 dinar. The recitation of the last two ajzaa` of the Qur’an is equivalent to 1,000 verses.

3. Extra Salah during the day: The Prophet (s) said: “There is not a Muslim who prays twelve raka’at per day, other than the obligatory prayers, except that a palace is built for him in paradise.”

4. Dhikr: The best form of worship to do in these ten days as apparent in the hadith:

Ibn `Umar said that the Messenger of Allah (s) said, “There is no day more honorable in Allah ’s sight and no acts more beloved therein to Allah than those in these ten days. So say tahlil (There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah: La ilaha illAllah), takbir (Allah is the greatest: Allahu akbar) and tahmid (All praise is due to Allah: alhumdulillah) a lot.” [Ahmad, 7/224]

The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “The best du`a’ is du`a’ on the day of `Arafah, and the best thing that I or the Prophets before me have said is ‘There is no god but Allah, alone, without any partner’ (La ilaha illa’llah, wahdahu la sharika lah)” [Muwatta, Malik].

7. Reviving the Sunnah of Takbir:

Ibn `Umar and Abu Hurairah (ra) used to go out in the marketplace during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, reciting takbeer, and the people would recite takbeer when they heard them.

8. Fasting:

The reward of fasting is great, so imagine how much that reward would be multiplied in these days. If one can’t fast all of the 9 days, then at least on the day of `Arafah as it is the greatest day.

Abu Qatadah reported that the Messenger of Allah (s) said, “Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah is an expiation for two years, the year preceding it and the year following it. Fasting the day of `Ashura is an expiation for the year preceding it.” [This is related by "the group," except for al-Bukhari and at-Tirmidhi]

The Prophet (s) said “There is no day that Allah will free people more than the day of `Arafah.”

`Ali (ra) used to advise people to say “Oh Allah free my neck from the fire” on the day of `Arafah.

9. Du`a’:

Especially on the day of `Arafah, but also at anytime. Keep in mind the times where du’aa is more likely to be accepted and ask during those times.

* The last third of the night
* Between the adhaan and iqaamah
* During the rain
* In sujood
* Friday
* While fasting

10. Sadaqa (charity):

Give sadaqa during these days, since the reward is multiplied tremendously.

11. Tawba (asking for forgiveness):

Continually renew repentance.

12. Establish ikhlas in `ibada.

13. Check and renew intentions at all times

The Day of `Eid

On the greatest day, remained focused as it is still part of the first 10 days which are the best days of the year! Try not to get too caught up in celebrating that you stop doing the worship that you were doing the first 9 days.

The day of ‘Eid: a day for visiting family and performing the sacrifice for one who is able.

The Prophet Sallallaahu alaihi wasallam has said, “Whoever is the first to give another person the news about the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the fire of hell is Haraam for them”. Is this Hadeeth authentic? If it is not, could you explain the warning for those who circulate fabricated Ahadeeth?

We have not come across a Hadeeth in which it is mentioned that the fire of Hell is Haraam upon the first person who gives the news about Rabi’ul Awwal.

If this Hadeeth is fabricated and was not mentioned by Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, the person who fabricated the Hadith as well as all those who convey the Hadeeth are deserving of the severe warning of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “To fabricate my words is not like fabricating any other person’s words. The person who fabricates my words should prepare an abode for himself in the fire of hell.” (Sahih al Bukhari, Hadith #: 1291).

Unfortunately, due to wide spread ignorance, e-mails containing false information and fabricated Ahadeeth are widely circulated. The creators of such e-mails as well as those who forward them to others should take heed of the severe warning of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. It is therefore imperative that one exercises caution when one receives e-mails of such a nature wherein there is no authentic reference mentioned. Such e-mails or pieces of information should be referred to reliable and learned scholars for verification.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.

How would you like to give your good deeds away on the Day of Judgement?

Have you ever sat over a cup of coffee and discussed others?

Have you just thought and said:

” Is it all innocent talk? No harm done? Just something to pass the time of the day? Just clearing the air?

“Or maybe you think you are just filling your spare 10 minutes innocently on the phone with your friends? Possibly a short chat on the Internet? Just before your next salaah possibly?

Not a thought that this idle chat is classed as back biting (gheebah) and slander. An act strictly forbidden in Islam.

An act hated by Allah(swt) and loved by the shaitan the accursed who loves trouble and division.

Allah (swt) knows in his infinite wisdom what is in our minds and hearts. He knew that we would treat gossip as a not very serious matter. But what we might not consider serious is a very serious matter in the sight of Allah (swt).

In The Holy Qur’an Allah (swt) says:

“Behold, you received it on your tongues, and said out of your mouths things which you had no knowledge; and you thought it to be a light matter, while it was most serious in the sight of God (24: 15)”

Also Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

“O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, in deeds some suspicions are sins. And spy not neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear God, verily, God is the one who accepts repentance, Most Merciful.” (49: 12)

One of the dangers is that we could be talking about people without having a true picture of a matter. Without a thought if the matter we discuss is true or not we just relate it to our companion. And from there a lie can spread like a wild fire. In those innocent 10 minutes we could be ruining the reputation and honour of someone who might have spent all his life to built it and the good name of his family. It can only provoke trouble or lead to bad consequences.

The issues of slander and backbiting are mentioned in several prophetic ahadiths :

(1) Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Do you know what is back biting ? They (the Companions) said: Allah and His Messenger know best. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: backbiting implies your talking about your brother in a manner which he does not like. It was said to him: What is your opinion about this that if I actually find (that failing) in my brother which I made a mention of? He said: If (that failing) is actually found (in him) what you assert, you in fact backbited him, and if that is not in him it is a slander. (Sahih Muslim, Book #032, Hadith #6265)

Either way non win situation.

While thousands of Muslims are killed all over the world, and while tens of thousands are imprisoned and tortured for calling to the path of Allah and for enjoining the good and forbidding the evil, most Muslims remain remarkably silent and have no worry except for the material things of life. Their hearts have been filled with the love of this life and the forgetfulness of the Hereafter.

Allah says in the Qur’an: “You will indeed find them, of all people, most greedy of life, even more than those who do not believe in Resurrection. Each one of them wishes he could be given a life of a thousand years. But the grant of such life will not save him even a little from due punishment. For Allah sees well all that they do” (Al Baqarah, 2:96). Many Muslims today have become so much attached to their life that their desire is to dwell among their family, house, money and commerce. They have forgotten that matters of the Hereafter should come before matters of this life and that we must strive to follow the orders of Allah, not just those we find easy and convenient to follow. Some Muslims today claim that it is better to perform extra prayers and extra fasting rather than enjoin the good and forbid the evil or defend the lives of weak Muslims. Such people would even blame the Muslims who strive to perform these obligations.

This is what Ibn al-Qayyim had to say about such people: ”The Shaitan has misled most people by beautifying for them the performance of certain voluntary acts of worship such as voluntary prayers and voluntary fasting while neglecting other obligatory acts of worship such as enjoining the good and eradicating the evil, to the extent that they do not even make the intention of performing them whenever they are able to. Such people are considered by the scholars to be on the bottom of the scale of religion: For the essence of our religion is to perform what Allah ordered us to do. The one who does not perform his obligations is actually worse than the one who performs sins. Anyone having some knowledge about the revelation of Allah, the guidance of the Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wa sallam, and the life of the companions would conclude that those who are pointed at today as the most pious people are in fact the least pious. Indeed, what kind of piety is there in a person who witnesses Allah’s sanctities being violated, his religion abandoned, the Sunnah of His Messenger shunned, and yet remains still with a cold heart and a shut mouth’ Such a person is like a dumb Shaitan! In the same way the one who talks falsehood is a speaking Shaitan. Isn’t the misfortune of Islam due only to those who whenever their life and food are secure, would not care about what happens to the religion? The best among them would offer a sorry face. But if they were challenged in one of the things their heart is attached to like their money, they would spare no efforts to get it back. These people, besides deserving the anger of Allah, are afflicted with the greatest calamity without even knowing it: They have a dead heart. Indeed the more alive a person’s heart is, the stronger its anger for the sake of Allah and the more complete his support to Islam and Muslims.” (A’alaam al-Muwaqqi’een, volume 2, page 176).

Man has been asked repeatedly to ask Allah(swt) for that which he desires. To end suffering, pain or to acquire that which we desire the most, dua is made unto Allah(swt). In Surah Ghafir, Allah(swt) says:

“And your Lord says: “Call on Me; I will answer your (Prayer)” – [Quran 40:60]

Yet many of our prayers go unanswered and people often wonder why their prayers were not heard. All prayers made to Allah(swt) are heard by Him:

“When my servants ask you concerning me, (tell them) I am indeed close (to them). I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on me.” – [Quran 2:186]

Primarily, certain conditions apply to duas before they can be answered:

1. A dua for something that is haram cannot be made and will not be fulfilled. We cannot ask for that which is forbidden in Islam. Such duas would definitely not be answered. Hence for starters we should know that what we are asking for should be halal according to the Islamic Shariah.

2. Our duas should be for our betterment. If Allah(swt) feels that what we ask for will harm us then He will not grant us our wish. A child who has no sense of what is harmful often cries and weeps asking him mother to let him play with a knife. The mother knows that he can cut himself and thus expose himself to pain if he is given the knife and hence does not fulfill his request. Similarly we often ask for things that are actually indeed harmful to us. Due to our limited wisdom we cannot assess the harmful effects of it but Allah(swt) in His Divine Wisdom knows of it and thus in order to protect us, He does not fulfill our request.

I have often come across the younger generation who wish for a certain person of the opposite sex to fall in love with them. When these duas are not answered they get depressed and disheartened. Some actually wish that they would have a love affair with that certain person, not realizing that this dua falls under the category of a forbidden act. Then there are others who wish for marriage which is permissible in Islam but a dua fulfilling the first criteria does not mean that it also fulfills the second criteria as mentioned above.

A person wishes for wealth but does not get it. Why? Allah(swt) in His Divine Wisdom knows how we will spend that wealth. A person can think “but I would spend it in the cause of Allah(swt)” however they fail to realize that we dont know a fraction of what we are. Only The Creator does. He knows that we might do all the wrong things. These wrong things can lead us right to the footsteps of Hell. Hence Allah(swt) in His Divine Wisdom is protecting us but we in our non-existant wisdom fail to understand.

3. We should pray to Allah(swt) while having faith in Him and with humility. We should express our need for Him.

Call on your Lord with humility and in private: for Allah loveth not those who trespass beyondbounds.
Do no mischief on the earth, after it hath been set in order, but call on Him with fear and longing (in your hearts): for the Mercy of Allah is (always) near to those who do good. – [Quran 7:55-56]

Many a times we quickly say our Salah and hurriedly go through the duas taking it for granted that because we have offered the Salah, our prayers will be answered. This is not the way to make dua. We must be sincere to Allah(swt)

4. This is one of the most important factors which we have to keep in mind. Though we spend time weeping for what we desire, as soon as we leave the masjid or our praying mats we continue with that which is haram. We will indulge in all kinds of things that are forbidden by Allah(swt) yet we expect Him to do as we have desired. Why is it that while we refuse to follow and obey the commandments of Allah(swt), we expect Him to do everything for us? We should always try to prove our worth. Ask yourself why Allah should help you? Have your proven your worth to Him?

Suffiyan At-Thawri answered the question “why does Allah(swt) not answer my prayer?” very appropriately. He listed 10 points which I will list below:

1- You know Allah(swt) YET you disobey Him.
2- You recite the Quran YET you dont act according to it.
3- You know shaitan YET you have agreed with him.
4- You proclaim your love of the messenger(saw) of Allah(swt) YET you abandon his Sunnah.
5- You proclain your love for Paradise YET you do not act to gain it.
6- You proclaim your fear of the Fire YET you do not prevent yourselves from sins.
7- You say indeed death is true YET you have not done anything to prepare for it.
8- You point out the faults of others YET you do not look at your own faults.
9- You eat of that which Allah(swt) has provided for you YET you do not thank Him(swt).
10- You bury your dead YET you do not take a lesson from it.

How many of these 10 points hold to be true with us? If one would assess themselves honestly, the results will be surprising.

5. Allah(swt) tests His creation in many ways. Many a times our prayers are not answered as swiftly as we desire because Allah(swt) wants to test our patience. Truly the following verses in the Quran correctly describe the nature of man:

Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), “My Lord hath honoured me.”
But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), “My Lord hath humiliated me!” – [Quran 89:15-16]

And again it is said:

There are among men some who serve Allah, as it were, on the verge: if good befalls them, they are, therewith, well content; but if a trial comes to them, they turn on their faces: they lose both this world and the Hereafter: that is loss for all to see! – [Quran 22:11]

To conclude, we must be sure that what we wish for is halal and not haram. We must have faith in Allah(swt) and know that He will fulfill that which is good for us. Our intentions should be pure and the dua should be made with humility. It is important for us to refrain from that which is haram and follow the commands of Allah(swt) as strictly as we can. Losing faith in Allah(swt) is harmful only for us for He needs not that we have faith in Him. Prayers that are unanswered in this world are deferred to be rewarded for in the Hereafter. Most importantly, we must recognize that Allah(swt) tests us and thus should practice patience during such times.

I have seen people with more than 3 locks on the door and some also have a specialized integrated alarm system against forceful entry! Some also have 24 hours live monitoring systems built in the house. Then one day I was thinking, it is quite sad that we use so many locks in order to safeguard some belongings, but, we have little or no locks at all in ourselves to safeguard our iman from Shaitan and evils of this world. This iman, which is more precious than any material thing, needs more protection than our belongings.

Mustafa George from www.sahab.net

Question:

There is a hadith wherin it is mentioned that if a person recites Surah Al Baqarah in the home, the shaytan will not be able to enter the home. Does this ruling also apply to one who listens to the Surah being recited from an audio tape?

Answer:

No, the recitation from an audio recording does not benefit (with regards to protection). This is because it can not be said that the person has (in fact) read the Quran, but rather it is said that he listened to a previous recording. Similarly, if we were to record an athan, and at the time of prayer we played the recorded athan, this would not be accepted. Likewise if we did the same with a Jum’ah (Friday) sermon, and at the time of Jum’ah prayer we played the sermon through the microphones, and (person on) the tape said: Asalam u alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu, and then the caller of the athan calls to prayer, and the Imam gives the sermon (all on tape). Would any of this be correct and accepted? No it would not! Why? Because this is all considered a previous recording and it is similar to someone writing on a piece of paper or placing a Quran in his home. This does not take the place of reciting the Surah (for protection).

http://www.sahab.net/sahab/showthread.php?threadid=323391

All praises belong to ALLAH peace and blessings are upon the Messenger of ALLAH, as to what follows
{ALLAH the Exalted says} “For over My servants no authority shall you have“

Some of the Companions said :
{Verily the believer exhausts his devil just like one of you exhausts his camel during travel.}

Exhaust: weaken; meaning they exhaust him making him lose weight.

Thus making him a (nidwan)

And the (nidwu) is animal that has become lean (skinny) though traveling thus it meat has left its body.

Meaning the believer wears out his devil, so he debilitates him and makes him lose weight from his grief and sadness, because he is not able to tempt him.

Just like the person wears out his riding camel during travel and makes it lose weight due to the length of the travel and its hardships.

And this is the condition of the believer with his devil in the constant struggle with him.

He resists his plots and plans and whispers by always being firm upon the obedience of ALLAH the Exalted and Mighty.

And with this ibn Abi Dunya narrates in his book “The plots of the devil” from some of the salaf they said:

Verily a devil meets another devil so he says to him, “Why is it that I see you looking sickly? (Meaning the change is weight)” The (other) devil replies, verily I am with a man that if he eats he remembers the name of ALLAH so I can not eat with him. And if he drinks he remembers the name of ALLAH so I can not drink with him. And if he enters into his home he remembers the name of ALLAH so I am rejected outside of the house.

The other devil says, but as for me then I am with a man if he eats he does not remember ALLAH so he and I eat together, and if he drinks he does not remember ALLAH so I drink with him, and when he enters his home he does not remember ALLAH so I enter with him.

Where there is du’a, there is hope Tuesday the 4th of February was a day, which changed my lif

Where there is du’a, there is hope

Tuesday the 4th of February was a day, which changed my life, my thinking and my spirit irreversibly and forever. It will always be my pot of shining gold at the end of the rainbow, my hope in times of despair, my silver lining in every dark cloud…

I often relate my magical little story to people, and more often than not, I can hear the disbelief in their voices, and see the doubtful expressions on their faces. But I cannot blame them for this, for, had someone told me the same story a few years ago, I, too would have probably thought it was fabricated, or at the very least, exaggerated.

You see, I had always thought that each individual has his/her own preferences in terms of the form of ibaadah he/she gravitates towards. Some people prefer standing in supererogatory prayers for long hours, others prefer reciting Qur’an, some enjoy dhikr others prefer du’a…

And I had resigned myself to the fact that du’a just didn’t seem to be something which I could put my heart into. Perhaps it was lack of faith on my part, or perhaps it was sheer laziness. Or perhaps I didn’t know how to ask, or when to ask. For whatever reason, du’a was always something ritualistic in my day-to-day life – a few lines of memorized Arabic words at the end of fardh salah, no tears, no smiles, no emotions, and that was it. In fact more often than not, I would leave it out.

Until Ramadan, two years ago. I was going through an extremely tough time – sadly most of us are when we decide to ask Allah – when I received an e-mail from a mailing list I subscribe to. The brother who had sent the mail reminded readers of the assured acceptance of du’a made on the Night of Qadr (Laylatul-Qadr). He said that since this night, in all probability, occurred on one of the last ten days of the month, and since nobody knew exactly which night it was, everyone should make a list of the things which they really wanted, and on each of the last ten nights, they should fervently and passionately cry out to Allah, asking Him to give them those things. This way, the brother said, everyone would have made du’a on each and every one of the last ten nights, and hence they would be sure that they ‘caught’ the Night of Qadr, and if Allah willed, their du’a would be assure of acceptance.

I took great inspiration from this mail, more so, because the brother spoke of how he had done this during a previous Ramadan, and how his du’a had been accepted. And so my journey of discovery of began… I would accompany my brother to the mosque for Tarawih salah every night, and we would always arrive a little early.

I would throw my head on the ground and cry my heart out, asking Allah, like I’d never asked Him before: I asked for all the things which were missing in my life, I asked Him to remove my grief, to Bless me with what I always wanted. I finally put all the theories I had heard and read about du’a in lectures, articles and books, into practice: I acknowledged that I was weak, and my virtues, if existent at all, were few, I mentioned a few of my good deeds to Him, and asked if He would reward me for them, small though they were. I told Allah that I loved Him – and wondered why I had never bothered to tell Him this before. I told Him that I believed He could do anything – and wondered why I had never believed this before.

That Ramadan, in those few nights, I spoke to Allah, and ask of Him, as if He was my friend, as if I truly believed He could help me, as if I was there, listening. And quite honestly, I don’t think I had done that before. And He responded. I got what I had wanted; I got what I had asked for.

It didn’t come all at once, but it came. It didn’t come with great ease; there were many difficulties on the way, but I knew, that if I had asked Allah, then I had to have faith in Him, and if I had faith in Him, then I had to have faith in His Words: “Verily with difficult comes ease.” [Surah Al-inshirah]

I shared this little story with a few of my friends, because I felt it was blessing which other people could benefit from, and I found that I wasn’t alone.

There were people out there who had realized the sheer power of du’a long before I had, and they inspired me further. These people made du’a for everything they wanted, no matter how big or small it seemed. There was a sister who was certain she would fail an exam, she hadn’t studied for it all – the night before her paper, she realized that there was one thing she could do for herself: make du’a! And so she did. And she passed that paper.
Then there was another who would even make du’a to lose weight, and she said it worked. I might have laughed at her five years previously. But who was I to laugh now? A person can make du’a for he/she wants, as long as it is not haram, for e.g. asking for a premarital affair to work out, or impossible, for e.g. to be turned into an animal. And why won’t the One who says, in Surah Al-Baqarah: !When My servants ask you concerning me, I am indeed close to them: I listened to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls unto me…! Accept it? And nothing convinced me of this like February 4th 2003 did…

My brother and I had been for Hajj in the year 2000. We desperately wanted to return, but finances never allowed it. Then shortly before Ramadan 2002, I heard of an all – expenses paid Hajj, which the Saudi Royal Family offered to journalists, wanting to gain insight into the background happenings of Hajj. I called the Saudi ambassador to South Africa, Dr Saud Zedan, who told me that there weren’t any places available for this Hajj, but that I should apply to go as a guest of the Ministry. He told me that I should fax our details to a sister called ‘Amal’ and I did so the next day.

That Ramadan, I was faced with another test. Alhamdulillah, the previous Ramadan, I had learnt that du’a was the answer to finding my ways passing such test. So I made my list, and high up, of course, was that Allah would take me and my brother for a second Hajj. I called a close friend of mine’s, and asked her to make the same du’a.

I kept calling the embassy to ask if my application had been successful, and I was always faced with the same answer: “We don’t know yet.” January came – we would know towards the end of the month, Amal told me. The list of applicants had been faxed to Saudi Arabia, and the selection would be made there, and the names would then faxed to her. She asked me to call back on a Monday. Even today, thinking back, I can almost feel my sinking heart when I heard her words. “Dr Zenden says to tell you he is very sorry, and that in sha Allah, next year, you and your brother will be his personal guests.” I called Dr Zenden for his efforts, and he had already heard the news. “It’s Allah’s decision,” he said.

I was heart broken. I thought to myself, “if I truly believed in Allah and His Power, then I will practice on that belief.” So I made Wudu, and thanked Allah for His Decision, and I told Him that I understood that He knew of some good, in this outcome, which, I as a human being was unaware of. But I couldn’t help asking Him too, if He could somehow reverse the Decision. I told my close friend the bad news, and all she said was, “I am still making du’a.”

A week passed, and I heard the last flight of Hujjaj had left South Africa that weekend. I spent all weekend reminiscing and feeling sorry for myself, because I wasn’t on that flight. I felt that asking for Hajj now, was like asking for something impossible, so I didn’t include it in my du’a anymore.

Monday the 3rd of February was a devastating day. Something terrible – too personal to talk about – happened, and I felt this time, I couldn’t go no. At 3am on Tuesday I was speaking to a friend, and last words of advice I heard were, “Fatima, make wudu and pray.” So I prayed. After a restless sleep, the memory of what had happened the previous night woke me up at 8am. I made wudhu again and I sat down, raised my hands and asked Allah to help me. Barely five minutes had passed and my cell phone rang. The Pretoria dialing code flashed on my screen. “Fatima?” it was Amal’s voice. “You are going for Hajj on Friday. I need your passports.”

Until today I am not sure of the hows and whys – Dr Zenden was surprised when I told him that I had been accepted; he asked me if I was sure, and he said didn’t know how my name had found its way back onto the list. “Its Allah’s Will.” He reminded me.

I later heard that my brother and I had probably been replacement for a couple who had decided not to go at the last minute, but in my heart, I know that this was probably Allah’s way of answering my du’a.

My friend and I have spent long hours on the phone speaking about the power of du’a. It’s like a treasure, which I have started to, and continue to, discover. And I want to share it with the world.

Talk to Allah, in times, of need and in times of happiness. Ask Him and thank Him. Ask from your heart.
In the 21st Century, we live in a world where sadly, the essential ingredients of trustworthiness an

In the 21st Century, we live in a world where sadly, the essential ingredients of trustworthiness and honesty are no longer a part of the character of many people, Muslim and non-Muslim alike. Whilst the two qualities are inextricably entwined, for the purposes of this article trustworthiness, particularly fulfilling promises shall be the focus.

Being trustworthy implies being honest, fair in dealings and punctual, as well as honouring trusts and keeping promises and commitments. This is known as amanah in Arabic. The meaning of amanah is exactly trustworthiness, or, it is something or someone left to another to protect or keep. The opposite of amanah is betrayal or even treason. That is, to fail to keep the amanah in the way the person who left it expected and wanted it to be.

In Islam every believer is a brother or sister to the another; we are one body, one nation. The right hand must be able to trust the left hand. The commands and rules from Allah SWT are designed for our benefit and Islam holds people’s rights in high esteem. Furthermore, Islam encourages its believers to trust each other and to assume that the intentions of others are good. It is important to think positively about others unless proven otherwise because such feelings of certitude give individuals inner peace. However, sadly nowadays people are increasingly finding it difficult to trust others because broken promises, pledges and vows result in a loss of confidence in one another which is detrimental to society as a whole.

If we sit and ponder over how easy it is to say ‘I promise’ we soon realise that guarding those promises and living up to them is the difficult part of the equation. This is why a promise should only be made if we are absolutely sure that we can fulfil it. More often than not, we find excuses to explain away why we did not keep that promise, while the party to whom we made the promise awaits impatiently, in the belief and hope that we will fulfil it. As a result of breaking the promise we hurt our brother or sister beyond words and the fragile walls of trust and confidence begin to break down.

We also forget that a delayed promise is also a denied promise! When we say ‘Insha Allah’s, we drag the Name of Allah in vain, and make Allah a witness, to a promise we really did not intend to keep in the first place. We may also be so irresponsible and forgetful and be oblivious to the fact that fulfilling a promise is indeed a debt on us, which is witnessed by none other than Allah SWT!! Furthermore, shockingly these days we see more and more individuals who are not only careless about keeping promises but consider treason (betrayal of trust) to be clever and some people may even brag about their actions to others.

Both promises and covenants involve saying something about an issue to confirm that you will uphold the trust. Allah SWT praises the believers by promising them Paradise:

“Those who are faithfully true to their amanah (all the duties which Allah has ordained, honesty, moral responsibility and trusts, etc.) and to their covenants…these indeed are the inheritors. Who shall inherit Paradise. And dwell therein forever” (Quran 23:8, 23:10-11)

Allah SWT orders the believers to fulfil their covenant time and time again in the Quran:

“And fulfill (every) covenant. Verily! The covenant will be questioned about.” (17:34)

“And fulfill the Covenant of Allah (Bai’ah: pledge for Islam) when you have covenanted.” (16:91)

“O you who believe! Fulfill (your) obligations.” (5:1)

“O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do? Most hateful it is with Allah that you say that which you do not do.” (61:2,3)

“Whoever fulfills his promise and guards (against evil), Surely Allâh loves those who guard (against evil).” [3:76]

“…Surely every promise shall be questioned about.” (17:39)

Furthermore there are a number of ahadith in which Prophet Muhammad (s) described those who go around breaking promises, as one having a characteristic of a Nifaaq (hypocrisy).

On the authority of Abdullah Ibn ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (s) said:

“Four traits whoever possesses them is a Munaafiq (hypocrite) and whoever possesses some of them has an element of hypocrisy until he leaves it: the one who when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks his promise, when he disputes he transgresses and when he makes an agreement he violates it.” [Bukhaari, and Muslim]

Hypocrisy, involves deception, scheming and presenting an outward appearance of good while concealing its opposite.

In the Shari’a, hypocrisy is of two types:

a) Greater (An-Nifaaq Al-Akbar):

To present an outward appearance of belief in Allah, his Angels, his books, his messengers, the last day, etc. while concealing within that which negates all or some of that.

This is the hypocrisy, which the Prophet (s) confronted during his life and the ones who Allah said in the Qur’an that they are in

“the lowest depth of hell-fire”.

b) Lesser (An-Nifaaq Al-Asghar) or hypocrisy of action:

To present an outward appearance of good and good deeds while concealing within that which negates that. This form of hypocrisy is built on the things mentioned in the above hadith.

In another tradition Prophet Muhamed (s) has said:

“There are three signs of a hypocrite: when he talks he speaks untruth, when he makes a promise he does not keep it, and when he makes a contract he deceives, although he may be offering prayers, observing fast and calling himself a Mus1im.”

Fulfilling promises is essential for a person who wishes to live a social life; it is the basis for social happiness, development, and success. Islam so greatly condemns the violation of promises that it has made it illegal and unethical for its followers to violate their oaths even if they were made with tyrants and desolates.

Promises can be intentionally and unintentionally broken.

Intentional promises are those that are made by an individual knowing full well that he/she intends to break it. They are lies and lying is a punishable sin in Islam. Making promises to children, for example, and then not fulfilling them falls under this category. To no other group of individuals are broken promises more devastating, than to children. Children are like elephants, they almost never forget. If you promise a child something, they will remember that promise, even though they may not verbalise it to you. The promises themselves may seem silly or unimportant at the time but they do count on our record of evil deeds. Extreme caution should be taken when uttering a promise whether it is to an adult or a child. As the above verse says a liar falls under the pale of hypocrisy.

Therefore, the Messenger of Allah (s) prohibited men from breaking promises to their children. He said:

“And a man shall not make a promise to his child and not fulfill it.”

Abdullah said:

“Lies are of no use in either seriousness or jest. Also, it is not right for someone to promise something to his/her child/children and then fail to fulfil that promise.” (Related by Abu Dawood.)

Below is an extract by a Doctor illustrating the tragic events, which can occur if promises are broken:

“A sixteen year old boy who robbed every day was brought to me for treatment. I discovered that when the boy was seven or eight years old, his father had forced him to give his toy to an aristocrat’s daughter, for whom his father worked. That toy, to the boy, represented an ultimate dream for he had worked hard to get it. The boy’s father promised to buy a substitute toy but had unintentionally forgot. The hopeless boy sought revenge by stealing a piece of candy from his father’s pocket. A day later the boy broke into a house and stole some item. It was not difficult to treat the boy when he was brought to me. It is possible that the boy would have come to be a dangerous criminal if he was not properly treated. But now his chances of becoming a reasonable and self-confident individual are much greater.” (Dr. Alindi)

This illustrates that by keeping our promises to our children, we are also teaching them the importance of honour and commitment. By keeping our word to them, they will in turn learn to keep promises made to us and to their peers, inshaa Allah.

Unintentional promises are ones that you make in good faith. You plan to fulfil them but then you either forget to do it or lack the means to follow through with it. In this event, breaking these promises is not punishable as Allah SWT judges us by the intention we carry in our hearts. For example, you promise your sister you will buy her new clothing for doing well in exams but find that you cannot afford to do so when the time comes around to doing so. You have no choice but to break the promise. It is still, however, best to try your hardest to fulfil these promises because breaking one’s promise is despicable and contrary to the spirit of Islam.

Allah SWT says in the Quran:

“And keep the promise; the promise is a responsibility.” (17:34)

Oaths to Allah – these are vows or oaths that you make directly to Allah Almighty. There are two types of these as well. The first being a ‘conditional oath’, which means that in times of distress or fear you make an oath to Allah. For example, you swear to Allah that if He heals you of a malady that you will fast every Monday for the rest of your life. And once the malady passes you might fulfil the oath or neglect it. The second is an ‘unconditional oath’ which means that you simply decide to do something for the sake of Allah. For example, you promise Allah to give a certain percentage of your salary each month to a special charity for two complete years. Again it is up to you whether or not you keep the oath. No one knows you made the oath but Allah right? Both of these types of oaths are obligations and must be fulfilled as they are considered to be acts of worship. Breaking a covenant made to Allah Almighty is very grave indeed.

In a narration, a group of Khawarij were captured during the time of Hajjaj, who reviewed their cases and sentenced them as he wished. When the last man was standing in front of Hajjaj waiting for his sentence, time for prayer arrived. Hajjaj heard the call for prayer and turned the prisoner over to a noble man and told him to bring him back in the morning. The noble man left the palace with the prisoner.

As they were walking the prisoner said:

“I am not one of the Khawarij. I ask Allah by His Mercy to prove my innocence, for I am an innocent hostage in their hands. I ask you to let me spend the night with my wife and children so I can leave my will with them. I promise that I will return before the roaster crows in the morning. After a moment of silence, the noble man agreed to the man’s insistence and permitted him to go home for the night. A short time later the noble man fell victim to his fear and imagined that he would be the subject of Hajjaj’s fury.

That night the man woke up terrified and was astonished to hear the prisoner, who he had given permission to go home, knocking at his door as he had promised.

This noble man was overwhelmed with surprise and could not help but exclaim:

“Why have you come to my door’?

The prisoner replied: “He who recognizes Allah’s greatness and power, and makes Him a witness to his oath, must fulfil his promise.

The noble man proceeded with the prisoner to the palace of Hajjaj, and narrated to him the complete story. Hajjaj, who is known for his ruthlessness, was so moved by the man’s honesty that he allowed him to go free.

So in conclusion, we should commit ourselves to the noble character and behaviour of our Rasool (s) and his companions in every way in every aspect of our lives. This includes good conduct, remembrance, recitation of the Quran, honesty and truthfulness, being humble towards others, enjoining good and forbidding evil, feeling bad for one’s sins, giving sadaqah and seeking Allah SWTs forgiveness all the time. We must be aware that we cannot just take one part and abandon another part of the religion. As a final remark in relation to this article is that people should always remember that quite simply, broken promises hurt individuals and can erode relationships. Trustworthiness is too valuable of a characteristic to own.

DON’T GIVE IT AWAY AND DON’T FORGET that keeping a promise, even if it seems SMALL, as the verses of the Quran show, is an adequate reason to gain the most bejewelled of all things; the love of Allah, Almighty.

May Allah SWT guide us all to the truth, help us to be just with one another, to be mindful of the vows and promises we make to one another and keep us on the Straight path. May Allah’s peace and blessing be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (s) and upon his family and companions and all those that follow him, and all praise is due to Allah.

What should a muslim women look to have a good Muslim husband and what are the most important things

What should a muslim women look to have a good Muslim husband and what are the most important things.

Praise be to Allah.

There follows a description of the most important qualities which should be present in the man whom you choose or accept to be your husband and the father of your children, if Allah decrees that you will have children.

Religious commitment. This is the most important thing to look for in the man you want to marry. The husband should be a Muslim who adheres to all the laws and teachings of Islam in his daily life. The woman’s guardian (wali) should strive to check out this matter and not rely only on outward appearances. One of the most important things to ask about is the man’s prayer (salaah); the one who neglects the rights of Allaah is more likely to neglect the rights of others. The true believer does not oppress or mistreat his wife; if he loves her, he honours her, and if he does not love her, he does not mistreat or humiliate her. It is very rare to find this attitude among those who are not sincere Muslims.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meanings):

“and verily, a believing slave is better than a (free) Mushrik (idolater), even though he pleases you”

[al-Baqarah 2:221]

“Verily, the most honourable of you with Allaah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwaa [i.e. he is one of the Muttaqoon (the pious)]”

[al-Hujuraat 49:13]

“Good statements are for good people (or good women for good men) and good people for good statements (or good men for good women)”

[al-Noor 24:26]

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“If there comes to you one whose religious commitment and attitude pleases you, then marry [your female relative who is under your care] to him, for if you do not do that, there will be tribulation on earth and much corruption.”

(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 1084).

As well as being religiously committed, it is preferable that he should come from a good family and a known lineage. If two men come to propose marriage to one woman, and they are equal in terms of religious commitment, then preference should be given to the one who comes from a good family that is known for its adherence to the commands of Allah, so long as the other person is not better than him in terms of religious commitment – because the righteousness of the husband’s close relatives could be passed on to his children and his good origins and lineage may make him refrain from many foolish and cheap actions. The righteousness of the father and grandfather are beneficial to the children and grandchildren.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the town; and there was under it a treasure belonging to them; and their father was a righteous man, and your Lord intended that they should attain their age of full strength and take out their treasure as a mercy from your Lord”

[al-Kahf 18:82].

See how Allaah protected their father’s wealth for the two boys after the father died, as an honour to him because of his righteousness and taqwaa. By the same token, if the husband comes from a righteous family and his parents are good, Allah will make things easy for him and protect him as an honour to his parents.

It is good if he has sufficient wealth to keep him and his family from having to ask people for anything, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Faatimah bint Qays (may Allaah be pleased with her),

when she came to consult him about three men who had proposed marriage to her,

“As for Mu’aawiyah, he is a poor man who has no wealth…”

(Narrated by Muslim, 1480).

It is not essential that he should be a businessman or rich, it is sufficient for him to have an income that will keep him and his family from having to ask people for anything. If there is a choice between a man who is religiously committed and a man who is wealthy, then the religious man should be given preference over the wealthy man.

It is preferable that he should be kind and gentle towards women, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to Faatimah bint Qays, in the hadeeth quoted above,

“As for Abu Jaham, his stick never leaves his shoulder”,

referring to the fact that he used to beat women a lot.

It is good if he is sound of body and healthy, free of faults, sickness, etc., and not disabled or sterile.

It is preferable that he should have knowledge of the Qur’aan and Sunnah; if you find someone like this it is good, otherwise you should realize that this is something rare.

It is permissible for the woman to look at the man who comes to propose marriage, and for him to look at her. This should be in the presence of her mahram, and it is not permitted to look more than is necessary, or for him to see her alone, or for her to go out with him on her own, or to meet repeatedly for no reason.

According to Islam, the woman’s wali (guardian) should check on the man who proposes marriage to the woman who is under his guardianship; he should ask those whom he trusts among those who mix with him and who know him, about his commitment to Islam and his trustworthiness. He should ask them for an honest opinion and sincere, sound advice.

Before and during all of this, you must turn towards Allaah and pray to Him to make it easy for you and help you to make a good choice and to grant you wisdom.

Then after all these efforts, when you have decided on a particular person, you should pray Istikhaarah, asking Allaah for that which is good.

Then after you have done your utmost, put your trust in Allaah, for He is the best of helpers, may He be glorified.

Adapted from Jaami’ Ahkaam al-Nisaa’ by Shaykh Mustafaa al-‘Adawi.

We ask Allaah, the Exalted, the Powerful, to make things easy for you, to help you make a wise choice, and to bless you with a righteous husband and good offspring, for He is Able to do all that. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him ).

He masturbated a great deal during Ramadan – what should he do? If a person has the problem of mastu

He masturbated a great deal during Ramadan – what should he do? If a person has the problem of masturbating daily, what should he do in Ramadan?

Praise be to Allaah.

The correct scholarly view is that masturbation is haraam.

Young men have to fear Allaah their Lord, and keep away from listening to or looking at the things that will provoke their desire. They should make the most of Ramadaan to discipline themselves, for this is the month of the Qur’an and the month of piety. It is not befitting for a Muslim to fail to make the most of this month to forsake forbidden desires and seek reward, fearing his Lord.

Allaah says of the fasting person in a hadeeth qudsi:

“He forsakes his food, his drink and his desires for My sake.”

Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1894; Muslim, 1151.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:

One should be patient in avoiding masturbation, because it is haraam as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from illegal sexual acts)

6. Except from their wives or (the slaves) that their      right hands possess,       for then, they are free from blame;

7. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors”

[al-Mu’minoon 23:5-7]

And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“O young men, whoever among you can afford to get married, let him do so, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding one’s chastity. And whoever cannot afford that should fast.”

If masturbation were permissible, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would have told them to do it, because it is easier and because people find pleasure in it, unlike fasting which is difficult. Because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined fasting instead, this indicates that masturbation is not permissible.

Majmoo’ Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, 19.189.

You should try hard to get married so that you can give up this bad habit. Seek the help of your Lord by praying to Him and obeying Him, so that you can rid yourself of this sinful habit.

We ask Allaah to purify your heart and protect you from sin, and to help you to do that which He loves and which pleases Him.

And Allaah knows best.

The following is a Hadith from Ibn Abbas (RA), as related by Mu’dh Ibn Jabal and contained in

The following is a Hadith from Ibn Abbas (RA), as related by Mu’dh Ibn Jabal and contained in Muhyiddin ‘Arabi’s book, ‘Shajarat al-Kawn’, (The Tree of Being). This is by information from another Hadith by Anas Ibn Malik (RA).

One day, a congregation was gathered at the home of one of the Ansar around the Prophet (SAW). (According to Anas, it was Abu Ayyub). In the middle of a wonderful discourse, an ugly voice from the outside was heard saying, “O Messenger of Allah would you permit me to enter? I have business with you!”

All looked at the Prophet (SAW), who said to the ones present, “Do you recognize the owner of this voice?” The companions answered, “Allah and His Messenger know best” The Prophet (SAW) said, “It is Shaytan, the Accursed.”

On hearing that, Umar (RAW), who was present, pulling his sword, asked, “O Messenger of Allah, permit me to go and cut off his head. Let me smash his skull and free the people from his trouble”

The Prophet (SAW) replied, “No, Umar, don’t you know that you cannot kill him? He has permission to exist until Doomsday.”

Then he added, “Open the door and admit him, as he did not come on his own, but on Allah’s orders”. Otherwise, he would not come here. Listen to what he says, and try to understand.”

The Rawi (RA), one of the companions, relates the tale. “They opened the door and he appeared in front of us as an old man cross-eyed (or blind in one eye) and scant of beard, with only six or seven long hairs from his chin. He had a very big head, his crossed eyes close to the top of his head, high on his forehead, with big thick hanging lips, like those of a water buffalo. He saluted the Prophet and the Companions, to which the Prophet (SAW) responded, ‘O Accursed, the salaam and salutations belong to Allah Most High. ‘Then he said, ‘I heard you are here on business. What is it?

“Shaytan said, ‘I did not wish to come here, I was forced to. An angel came to me from your Lord, who honours whom He wishes, and said, “Allah Most High orders you to Muhammad, but you will go to him in humility and abasement, and be submissive and tractable. You will tell him how you seduce and mislead humankind. You are going to answer all his questions truthfully, without a single lie.” And Allah said that if I lied to you, He would turn me into ashes and blow me away in the wind, and my enemies would laugh at me. I come with such orders, O Muhammad.’

“Then the Prophet (SAW) asked the Devil, ‘Tell me, who in the creation do you hate most?’

The Devil answered, ‘You O Muhammad! (“And all the prophets.”) There is no one in the whole creation that I hate more than your or another like you.’

“The Messenger of Allah (SAW) confirmed that the Devil was his (and all the prophets’) greatest foe. He asked, whom else do you detest, besides me?”

“Shaytan said,
‘The young ones who have given up their pleasures and themselves for Allah’s sake;
the men of knowledge who act upon their knowledge and who decline all that is doubtful; the ones who are clean, so clean that they wash thrice that which they wish to cleanse.
The patient poor, who neither ask from others the things they need, not complaining.
The thankful rich, who give alms lawfully.
the knowledgeable who act on what they know;
the readers of the Qur’an who pattern themselves on it;
those who call to prayer on time;
advisors and reformers;
abstainers from unlawful food and sex and
those who place their trust in Allah;
benefactors of the poor;
the devout busy in Allah’s service.

“Then, the Prophet (SAW) asked, ‘What happens to you, O Accursed One, when my people do their prayers?’

“I shake and tremble as if stricken with malaria, because I see your people raised in blessing and power each time they prostrate.”

Q: “‘What happens to you, O Accursed, when my people fast?”
A: ‘I have my hands and feet tied until they break their fast..’

Q: ‘What happens to you when they all meet on the Pilgrimage at the house of their Lord?’
A: ‘I lose my wits, I go mad.”

Q: ‘What happens to you when they recite the Holy Qur’an?’
A: ‘I melt, like lead turning to hot liquid in the fire.’

Q: ‘And when they pay alms?’
A: I am torn to pieces, as if the generous donors took a saw and sawed me into four pieces, because there are four beatitudes which the donor receives: the blessing of abundance, love and respect from Allah’s creatures, a shield from Hell fires, and relief from distress and troubles.’

Q: “Then the Messenger of Allah (SAW) asked the Devil what he thought of his beloved Companions.
A: About Abu Bakr (RA) he said, ‘I hate him. Even before Islam, he refused to obey, nay! Even to hear me. How can he now listen to me?’
About Umar Ibn Khattab he said, ‘I run away whenever I see him.
And about Ali Ibn Abu Talib he said, ‘Oh, if I could just be safe from him, if he would just let me be, I would let him be. But he will not leave me alone!’

“Having heard the answers of the accursed Shaytan, the Prophet (SAW) thanked Allah said, ‘Praised be to Allah, who has blessed my people with such felicity and cursed you with such negativity until that appointed time.

“When the Devil heard that, he said, ‘Alas for you, what felicity for your people? How can you feel there is safety for them as long as I exist? I enter their very veins, their very flesh, and they cannot even suspect, let along see or feel me. I swear by Allah Who has given me time until Doomsday, that I will seduce them all, the intelligent and the simpleminded, the learned as well as the ignorant, the devout as well as the sinner. None will be safe from me, except the true servants of Allah.’

Q: ‘Who are the true servants of Allah, according to you?’
A: ‘You know well, O Muhammad, that whoever loves his money and his property, Allah does not count among His servants. Whenever I see someone who does not say “mine” and me, who does not love either money or flattery, I know he is truly a servant of Allah and I run away from him. As long as one loves money, property, flattery, he obeys me, he is my servant. I need many servants and I have servants. I am not alone. I have 70,000 children, each of them with his assigned duties. Each of my 70,000 children has 70,000 shaytans serving under him, all assigned to different posts. Many are with the young, and the older women, and with the theologians and preachers and shaykhs. There are almost no difference of opinion between your young children. And some of the devout and some of the pious get along very well with my people! My devils lead the imagination of the sincerity of their devotions. Soon, they fight with each other and they don’t even know what is happening to them. Then, I whisper to them, “Disbelieve”, but when they disbelieve, I say,

“I am free of you. Surely I fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.”
(Sûrah al-Hashir, Ayat 16.)

“Then, the accursed Devil told how he profited from habits of man, which he liked. About lying, he said, ‘Do you know, O Muhammad, that lying is from me and that I am the first liar: Whoever lies is my best friend; whoever swears to the truth of Allah and lied to Adam and Eve.

I swore to them both, “Surely I am a sincere advisor to you.” (Sûrah AL A`raf, 7:21).

I also detest loving families. If they think of rejecting each other once, the marriage bond in Allah’s view is dissolved. The wife will be unlawful to the husband. When they sleep together, they will be adulterers. If they have a child, he will be a bastard. I love that.’

‘O Muhammad, let me tell you about my friends who abandon prayers or delay them. When it is time for prayer, I make them imagine that there is still time, that they are busy. They should enjoy what they are doing, they can always pray later! I hope they will die before doing their next prayer. If I don’t succeed again, I enter into their prayers. I tell them, “Look to the right, look to the left! Think of the past, plan your future!” And when they do, I caress their cheeks and kiss their foreheads and take the peace from their hearts. You know, O Muhammad, that the prayers of those whose attention is outside of them or who are imaginings things which do not belong in the presence of Allah are also rejected and thrown in their faces. And, if I am not successful in that, I order them to do their prayers fast and they look like hens picking at grain. If I still don’t succeed, I follow them to the congregational prayers and put bridles on their heads. I pull, and lift their heads from the prostration before the Imam, and I push their heads down before the Imam touches his head to the ground and I am overjoyed to remember that Allah will turn those unruly heads into donkeys heads on the Last Day of Judgment. If I am still not successful, I try at least to make them crack their fingers while they are making prayers. Then, they will be among those who make my tasbih, instead of Allah’s ta’bih. Or at least I will blow into their noses and make them yawn and, if they open their mouths, a little devil will enter into them through their mouths and increase their love and ambition of this world. The one who loves and is ambitious for this world becomes my soldiers; he obeys me and does as he is ordered.

‘O Muhammad, how can you hope and be serene about your people’s salvation and felicity? I have a trap at every corner for them. I go to the poor and tell them, “What has Allah done for you? Why do you pray to Him? Prayer is for those to whom He has given in abundance.” Then, I go the ones who are sick and tell them to stop praying, and remind them that even Allah said,

“There is no blame on the sick” (Surah Nur, 24:61)

I hope that they will die having abandoned their prayers, so that Allah will meet them with anger in the Hereafter.

‘O Muhammad, if I have told a single lie, may scorpions bite me, and ask from Allah that He turn me into ashes. O Muhammad, do not be sure of your people. I have already converted a sixth of them, who have left their religion.’

Q: ‘O Accursed One, with whom do you most like to spend your time?’
A: ‘The usurer.

Q: ‘And your best friend?’
A: ‘The adulterer.’

Q: With whom do you share your bed?’
A: ‘The drunkard.’

Q: ‘Who are your guests?’
A: ‘The thieves.’

Q: ‘Who are your representatives?’
A: The magicians and soothsayers.’

Q: ‘What pleases you most?’
A: ‘Divorce.’

Q: ‘Whom do you love most?’
A: ‘Those who abandon their Friday prayers.’

The ten friends of Shaytan are, tyrants and oppressors; the arrogant; servile scholars who hide the truth for the benefit of tyrants; dishonest tradesmen; drinkers of alcohol; dealers in fraud; slanderers; those who stir up trouble among friends.

Q: “What breaks your heart, o Accursed One?
A: ‘The determination and the firm footsteps of those who march against the enemies of Allah for Allah’s sake.’

Q: ‘What gives you pain?’
A: ‘The repentance of the penitent.’

Q: ‘What makes you grimace?’
A: ‘The alms given in secret.’

Q: ‘What makes your eyes blind?’
A: ‘The tahajjud prayer in the middle of the night.’

Q: ‘What makes you bow your head?’
A: ‘Prayer done in congregation.’

‘Q: ‘O Shaytan, according to you, who are the happiest among people?’
A: ‘The ones who purposefully abandon their prayers.’

Q: ‘And the best among people?’
A: ‘The miser.’

Q: ‘What prevents you from doing your job?’
A: ‘The gathering of men of knowledge and their discourses.’

Q: ‘How do you eat your food?’
A: ‘With my left hand and the tips of my fingers.’

Q: ‘When the sun is hot, where do you seek shade?’
A: ‘Under people’s dirty fingernails.’

“‘I asked Allah to give me a house, and He gave me the public baths.
I asked Allah to give me a temple, and he gave me the marketplace as my temple.
I asked Allah to give me a book. He gave me the book of poetry as my book.
I asked for a call to prayer, and He gave me the dancing music.
I asked for someone to share my bed, and He gave me the drunkard.
I asked Allah for helpers. Allah gave me those who believe in free will.
I asked Allah to give me brothers and sisters, and Allah gave me the squanders who spend their money on evil things. Allah said,

“Surely the squanders are the Devil’s brethren” (Surah Bani Isr’ail, Ayat 27).

Then I asked Allah to be able to see the children of Adam while they are unable to see me, and He accorded that to me. I wished that the very veins of the children of Adam be my routes, and it was given to me. So, I flow in their veins as I wish and enter their flesh. All these were given to me, and I am proud of what I have received. And, let me add, O Muhammad, that there are more with me than there are with you.’

“‘Then the Prophet (SAW) said, ‘If you had not proven what you said with the verses of Allah’s Book, it would have been hard for me to confirm what you say.’

“‘The Devil continued, ‘Do you know, O Muhammad, that I have a son whose name is Atam? He urinates in the ear of the people who go to sleep without performing their night prayers. His urine puts them to sleep, otherwise, no one could have gone to bed without finishing their prayers.

Then, I have a son whose name is Mutaqadi. His duty is to publicize the prayers, the devotions, the good deeds done in secret a hundred fold. When deeds are publicized and receive credit and praise from the creatures of Allah, Allah takes away 99 of the promised one hundred rewards.

Then, I have a son whose name is Kuhayl. His duty is to put kohl on the eyes of those in the presence of wise men or preachers. The ones whose eyes he has touched start falling asleep. They are, thus, prevented from hearing the words of Allah or receiving any benefits from them.

” ‘The Devil talked about women. He said, ‘Whenever a woman leaves her seat, a Devil sits in her place. On the lap of every woman sits a shaytan who makes her desirable to whoever looks at her. Then, he orders the woman to open and show her arms, her legs, and her breast and with his claws, tears her veil of shame and decency.’

” ‘Then the Devil started to complain. He said, ‘O Muhammad, inspite of all this, I have no strength to take away the faith of the faithful. I only take away their faith when they throw it away. If I were able, there would be no one on the face of this world who could say: LA ILAHA ILLALLAH, MUHAMMAD RASULULLAH, “There is no Creator by Allah, Muhammad is His Messenger.” I would not leave a single one to pray or fast. All I can do is to give the children of Adam imaginations, illusions and delusions, make the ugly appear beautiful, the wrong, right; and the bad, good. Neither do you have the power to give faith. You are only a proof of the Truth, because I know that, if you were given the power to give true faith, you would not leave a single non-believer on the face of this world. The fortunate one who is a believer is fortunate in his mother’s womb, and the rebellious sinner is a rebel in his mother’s womb. As you are the guide of the fortunate, I am only the cause of sin of the ones who are destined to sin. Allah is He who renders one fortunate and another rebellious.’ Then he recited from Surah Hud,

“And if thy Lord had pleased He would have made people a single nation, and they cease not to differ, except those upon whom thy Lord has mercy, and for this did He create them. And the word of them altogether” (Surah Hud, Ayat 118-119.)

He recited from Surah Ahzab, Ayat 38: ‘ “And the command of Allah is a decree that is made absolute.’ “

Then, the Mercy upon the Universe told the Devil, ‘O Father of All Bitterness, I wonder if it is at all possible for you to repent and return to your Lord. I promise I would intercede for you.’

“The Accursed One answered, ‘O Messenger of Allah, it is Allah’s justice. The ink on the pen which wrote the judgment is dry. What will happen until Doomsday. The One who made the master of all prophets, the speaker for the inhabitants of Paradise, the One who chose you to be the beloved amongst His creation, chose me to be the master of sinners and the speaker of the inhabitants of Hell. He is Allah. O Muhammad, this which I have told you is my last word to you, and I have told nothing but the truth.’ “

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Allah says in Qur’an:

Surely Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O ye that believe: Send ye blessing and salute him with all respect. Surah-the coalition,33:53

May Allah’s blessing be upon Muhammad, the Beloved of Allah, and upon his household and Companions and upon those who love him. Amin

one who memorizes forty ahaadeeth is a weak hadeeth

Could you tell me if the ahadith about memorizing 40 of the Prophet (SAAS) sunnah and being admitted to paradise or raised with the scholars are authentic.

Praise be to Allaah.

1 – This hadeeth is da’eef (weak). Despite its large number of isnaads they do not support one another, and there are many different versions with different wordings, such as, “…Allaah will resurrect him on the Day of Resurrection among the fuqaha’ and scholars,” and “… Allaah will resurrect him a scholar and a faqeeh,” and “I will be an intercessor and a witness for him on the Day of Resurrection,” etc.

(a) al-Haafiz ibn Hajar said:

It was narrated by al-Hasan ibn Sufyaan in his Musnad and in his Arba’een, from the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbaas, and he narrated it from thirteen of the Sahaabah. It was narrated by Ibn al-Jawzi in al-‘Ilal al-Mutanaahiyah, and he explained that all of these ahaadeeth are da’eef. Ibn al-Mundhir discussed it in a separate volume, and I discussed it in the sixteenth chapter of al-Imla’. I mentioned all of its isnaads in one volume but there is not one isnaad that is free of faults.

Al-Talkhees al-Habeer, 3/93, 94.

(b) Ibn al-Mulaqqin said:

The hadeeth “Whoever preserves forty hadeeth for my ummah will be recorded as a faqeeh” was narrated via approximately twenty isnaads, all of which are da’eef (weak).

Al-Daaraqutni said: All its isnaads are da’eef and none of them are proven.

Al-Bayhaqi said: Its isnaads are weak.

Khalaasat al-Badr al-Muneer, 2/145

The scholars of hadeeth are agreed that it is a weak hadeeth, although it has many narrations.

Muqaddimat al-Arba’een al-Nawawiyyah.

2 – We should note here that there are reports in the Sunnah which mention the virtue of listening to the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and conveying it, even if it is just one hadeeth.

It was narrated that Zayd ibn Thaabit said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say,

“May Allaah bless a man who hears a hadeeth from us and memorizes it so that he can convey it to others, for perhaps he is conveying it to one who will understand it better than him, and perhaps the one who conveys knowledge does not understand it himself.”

(Narrated and classed as hasan by al-Tirmidhi, 2656; also narrated by Abu Dawood. 3660; Ibn Maajah, 230).

Al-Mubaarakfoori said:

What is meant is that Allaah has singled him out for happiness and joy because of the knowledge with which He has blessed him and the status among people in this world and blessings in the Hereafter that he attains thereby, so that the joy and blessings are seen on his face. And it was suggested that the hadeeth indicates what happens to the person of joy and blessing that appears on his face.

Why is it that when people get married the women has to do what the man says ! Praise be to Allaah.

Why is it that when people get married the women has to do what the man says !

Praise be to Allaah.

What the Muslim has to do when he learns the ruling of Islam is to submit to it and believe in it even if he does not know the wisdom behind it.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allaah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allaah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed into a plain error”

[al-Ahzaab 33:36]

He should be certain that there is the utmost wisdom behind all the rulings of Islam, but that wisdom may be hidden and he may not understand it. In that case he should realize that this is due to his lack of knowledge and the shortcomings of human intellect, which is not free of defects.

When a man and a woman come together in marriage and live together, there are bound to be differences in opinion between them, and one party must have the final say in order to resolve the issue, otherwise the differences will multiply and disputes will increase. So there has to be someone in charge, otherwise the marriage will founder.

Hence Islam made the husband the protector and maintainer of the wife and gave him the responsibility of heading the household, because he is more perfect in rational thinking than her in most cases. This means that it is obligatory for her to obey him. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allaah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means” [al-Nisaa’ 4:34]

Among the reasons for that are the following:

1 – Men are more able to bear this responsibility, just as women are more able than men to take care of the children and the household affairs. So each of them has his or her natural role and position.

2 – In Islam, men are obliged to spend on their wives; the wife does not have to work or earn a living. Even if she has an independent income or she becomes rich, the husband is still obliged to spend on her as much as she needs. Because he bears the responsibility of spending, he is made the protector and maintainer of his wife and is put in charge (of the household).

Hence we see chaos in the societies which go against that: men do not shoulder the responsibility of spending on their wives, and wives are not obliged to obey their husbands; they go out of the home whenever they want and leave the marital nest empty and neglect their children. A woman has to work hard even if that is at the expense of her house and family.

We should also take note of the following points:

1 – The woman will be rewarded by Allaah for her obedience to her husband.

2 – This obedience should not involve disobeying Allaah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“There is no obedience to any created being if it involves disobedience towards the Creator.”

3 – Just as the husband has the right to be obeyed, Islam also tells him to treat his wife kindly. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And they (women) have rights (over their husbands as regards living expenses) similar (to those of their husbands) over them (as regards obedience and respect) to what is reasonable”

[al-Baqarah 2:228]

So he should not mistreat or oppress her, or issue harsh commands to her. Rather he should deal with her in a wise manner, and tell her to do things which are in her interests, his interests and the interests of the household, in a kind and gentle manner.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The best of you is the one who is best to his wife, and I am the best of you to my wives.”.

“Were it not for you, I would not have created the universe”

How sound is the hadith, that states, that it were not for Muhammad (saw) Allaah (swt) would not have created this world.could you shatter some light in the matter.

Praise be to Allaah.

Many false and fabricated haadeeth have been narrated that say similar things.

For example:

“Were it not for you, I would not have created the universe.”

This was quoted by al-Shawkaani in al-Fawaa’id al-Majmoo’ah fi’l-Ahaadeeth al-Mawdoo’ah (p. 326).

He said:

Al-San’aani said: (it is) mawdoo’ (fabricated).

Al-Albaani said in al-Silsilah al-Da’eefah (282): (it is) mawdoo’.

Another example is the hadeeth narrated by al-Haakim according to which Ibn ‘Abbaas said:

“Allaah revealed to ‘Eesa (Jesus, peace be upon him):

‘O ‘Eesa, believe in Muhammad, and tell whoever you meet of your ummah to believe in him. For were it not for Muhammad, I would not have created Adam, and were it not for Muhammad, I would not have created Paradise and Hell. I created the Throne over the water and it would not settle until I wrote on it, Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah Muhammad Rasool Allaah (There is no god but Allaah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah).”

Al-Haakim said: its isnaad is saheeh!

But al-Dhahabi commented on that and said:

I believe it is fabricated and falsely attributed to Sa’eed.

Meaning, Sa’eed ibn Abu ‘Aroobah (one of the narrators of this hadeeth). This hadeeth was narrated from him by ‘Amr ibn Aws al-Ansaari, who is the one who is accused of fabricating it. Al-Dhahabi mentioned him in al-Meezaan where he said: “He produced a munkar report,” then he quoted this hadeeth, and said, “I believe that it is mawdoo’ (fabricated).” Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar agreed with him, as it says in al-Lisaan.

Al-Albaani said in al-Silsilah al-Da’eefah (280): There is no basis for it.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked:

Is the hadeeth which some people quote – “Were it not for you, Allaah would not have created the Throne or the Kursiy or the earth or the heavens or the sun or the moon or anything else” saheeh or nor?

He replied:

Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the leader of the sons of Adam, and the best and noblest of creation, hence some people say that Allaah created the universe because of him, or that were it not for him, Allaah would not have created the Throne or the Kursiy or the earth or the heavens or the sun or the moon.

But this hadeeth that is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is neither saheeh (sound) nor da’eef (weak), and it was not narrated by any scholar in a hadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Neither was it known from the Sahaabah. Rather it is the words of one who is unknown.

Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 11/86-96.

The Standing Committee was asked:

Can it be said that Allaah created the heavens and the earth for the purpose of creating the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)? What is the meaning of the hadeeth, “Were it not for you the universe would not have been created,” and does this hadeeth have any basis?

They replied:

The heavens and the earth were not created for the sake of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), rather they were created for the purpose which Allaah mentions (interpretation of the meaning):

“It is Allaah Who has created seven heavens and of the earth the like thereof (i.e. seven). His Command descends between them (heavens and earth), that you may know that Allaah has power over all things, and that Allaah surrounds all things in (His) Knowledge”

[al-Talaaq 65:12]

As for the hadeeth mentioned, it is falsely attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and has no sound basis.

Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 1/312

Shaykh Ibn Baaz was asked about this hadeeth and said:

The answer is that this was transmitted from the words of some of the common people who have no understanding. Some people say that the world was created for the sake of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and were it not for Muhammad the world would not have been created and mankind would not have been created.

This is false and has no basis, and these are corrupt words. Allaah created the world so that He would be known and worshipped. He created the world and He created mankind so that His names and attributes, His power and knowledge, would be known and so that He alone would be worshipped with no partner or associate, and so that He would be obeyed – not for the sake of Muhammad or for the sake of Nooh or Moosa or ‘Eesa or any other Prophet. Rather Allaah created the universe so that He alone would be worshipped, with no partner or associate.

Fataawa Noor ‘ala al-Darb, 46.

And Allaah knows best.

mum thinks baz is affected by a “sawan”, in malay terms something jinn/spirit-like surrounding him, because he keeps crying at night, but then again -dont all babies do/colic?, other than that when he’s in a good mood, keeps looking up in the celing and being entertained by it, and its at the corner of the room, not the lights…so it is puzzling…especially when he automatically goes to sleep after i wipe yaasin water/zamzam on his face and some in his milk…so who’s keeping him company alongside of me?

i don’t take him outside when maghrib/sunset because even the prophet s.a.w discouraged it as this is when the shaitan/devil comes out and play and even if i hold him closer to the door, i know mum will start barking…scolding like crazy coz she’s so into these things…

but this morning, when i was waiting for baz to wake up, was walking into mum’s room whereby she was telling my sister shila about the “pusaka” kept in my family as my sister just came back from watching harry potter the night before…she was saying that my paternal grandfather and his mum kept a few. i presume to protect the family as the place they were living at half a century ago was still pretty much jungle…-what a great security system, just like they put some guarding the ancient egyptian tombs in egypt, and secondly, it was their version of get-rich-quickly-schemes during their heyday…they put more emphasis on land than education…and sold their soul to the devil in the meantime..which in islam is a grave sin…

mum mentioned about great grandma’s un-inhabited haunted house…how part of mum going back to malaysia again this ramadan is to exocize/clean out the house (basically read quraan, throw yaasin water all over, literally spring clean the house) because the neighbours and tenants have been complaining about who uncomfortable they are with it…but then again i’m thinking why can’t the folks who normally go to the masjid just a few houses down do that since the whole area -jalan lorong imam tahir, masjid tanah, melaka are all relies of one another…

anyways, the thing with this pusaka is its inherited, dunno in which order, but if one of the family is appealing to them they’ll practically bother you till you go crazy…its not something thats fabricated in hollywood movies but its actually true because my mum saw a few of her nighbours get possessed until they got the local sheikh to read quraan/some special duas/potions -that i wouldn’t mind finding out until they were ok…so i’m like thinking -is it us? is that the reason why we’re the only part of the clan thats overseas? to get away from the shit our ancestors use to get up to?

there’s also people getting bewitched…which my uncle bore after his ex-girlfriend couldn’t accept being ditched by him. he didn’t get out of it until a decade later when they found the spell and threw it into the sea…

and i’m thinking why cant anyone do that for the shit grandpa did coz none of his blood needs it as we have someone more powerful, of whom the spirits/jinns submit to -GOD/ALLAH

i do read ayat kursi and the 3 quls over baz whenever i start to feel uneasy but would be great if anyone, especially malay/indonesian can make me comprehend this phenomena…

and everyone says asians are the most gentlest of creatures…we might not have a lot of guns like those in europe but we have something even stronger, more dangerous than that -the supernatural, to protect us…

but i know its not just the malays, indons that use these spirits for their personal gains but chinese, thais…everyone i guess…but its all hush hush, or made into a drama series…
