I love the smell of Rosemary and Lavender and was thrilled to get Rosemary Lavender Shampoo and Conditioner from Monave’.  They both smell really good and when using the same scents for your hair your scents don’t clash or over power.

Acredito que se tem uma coisa mais importante do que saber o tipo de maquiagem que cai bem em você e o que não cai, é lavar os seus pincéis. Eu já falei aqui no blog de todos so tipos de pincéis para make (base, pó, sombra e blush), mas percebi que nunca tinha falado sobre a manutenção deles.

O mais importante disso tudo é entender que os pincéis precisam ser cuidados com muito carinho. Caso contráio eles podem perder cerdas e até mesmo mofar (eww!). Como nós não queremos isso, aliás, queremos mais é que eles durem anos e anos, nada como reservar dez minutos do seu domingo uma vez por mês (ou o quanto você achar necessário) para cuidar bem do seus apetrechos.

Eu disse o quanto você achar necessário, mas acho que o ideal (especialmente para Moças que usam muito os seus pincéis) e lavá-los a cada 15 dias. Intercalar nesse meio tempo uma limpeza mais profunda acho que seria o ideal de manutenção desses instrumentos.

Acho que muitas de nós aqui já ouvimos falar que nada melhor para lavar um pincel do que um shampoo neutro. E é isso mesmo o que eu acho. Eu, por exemplo, uso o Johnson’s Baby Shampoo. Primeiro porque ele é feito para nenéns, como diz o nome, então mais neutro do que isso, impossível! (afinal, que bebê precisa de muitos cuidados capilares, não? O cabelinho deles já é a coisa mais fofa e macia do mundo!). Segundo, porque ele tem uma consistência boa, é fácil de lavar e só um pouquinho já resolve o problema.

Esse produto tem um preço bem bacana, custa por volta de seis reais no máximo em qualquer farmácia do Brasil e faz o trabalho muito bem feito, é claro!

Então o que eu faço é o seguinte: ligo a torneira da pia em uma temperatura mais morna, molho as cerdas (jamais na altura do cabo, okay? Isso porque o molhado ali pode acumular e causar mofo) o máximo que posso, fecho a torneira, coloco um pouco de shampoo na mão e passo o pincel ali em um movimento de vai e volta. Depois disso, bora molhar de novo com água morna par atirar todo o produto. Ah, vale lembrar que apertar um pouco as cerdas para tirar o excesso de água e colocá-las na forma original é uma boa também!

Para secar as opções variam. Eu preciso usar uma toalha mesmo, passo o pincel na direção dele sobre a toalha até eu achar que a maior parte da água saiu. Depois disso deixo em algum lugar arejado para terminar de secar. mas, se você achar que vai demorar muito pode usar um secador de cabelo na temperatura MORNA e de longe (não diretamente nas cerdas) para acelerar o processo.

Mas é claro que isso não é necessário a cada duas semanas. para lavagens mais rápidas sempre vale a pena ter em mãos um produto feito para isso, como os cleaners da Sephora e da M.A.C. São fáceis de usar, práticos (você pula a parte da água e, depois de borrifar o cleaner no pincel é só fazer o movimento de vai e volta sobre uma toalha) e não é difícil encontrar um bom produto por um preço camarada.

O da M.A.C. custa em torno de 11 dólares no gringo enquanto o da Sephora, possui preços que variam entre 6 e 12 dólares. Vai dizer que não vale a pena?

So as I mentioned before, I recently found out I’m allergic to synthetic fragrances on my hands.

Since I was young I would break out in a rash on my hands every so often. We thought maybe it was the cat, or nerves or whatever. It was only recently I discovered (by accident) the real cause of my horribly cracked, bumpy and very irritated hand condition!

Synthetic Fragrance & other chemicals.

As you may or may not know -I always test the products I sell in the store. So, of course, by only using chemical free products I allowed my hands to clear up completely since there was no synthetic fragrance of harmful chemicals in there. I still hadn’t put it all together though, until the day I tried a hand lotion that was supposed to be “natural” and my hands broke out within a day.

I finally got a hint of what was going on and called the manufacturer about the lotion – sure enough the one I was testing did have synthetic fragrance added!

So I’ve been avoiding synthetic fragrance at all cost but let me show you how hard it is!

I’m @ Wal mart yesterday and go in to wash my hands: hmmmm….the soap has harmful chemicals like sodium lauryl sulfate and of course synthetic fragrance…but what else can I do? So, wash my hands and guess what? BAM! I started getting  a rash by 5pm the evening. It’s all gone now the next day thanks to moisturizing with natural ingredients only but interesting to say the least.

How to avoid?

So how do you avoid what is so common out there? Any public washroom will have harsh soaps, hotels, restaurants, your business office – so do you carry your own soaps?

The same example applies when we went to visit my father in another province this summer. I had to bring my own soap, lotion and hair care since I knew I couldn’t just pick those up @ the local store. But even something as simple as helping wash the dishes – I had to stick to drying them because I can’t even put my hands in regular detergent water!

Just now I am beginning to understand the dilemma people with serious allergies face. Walking a mile in their shoes I now see how hard it can be to avoid these products -whether you have very sensitive skin or allergy to fragrance.

So, for now, whenever I travel I will just have to make up a travel bag of shampoos, lotions and soaps and just bring my own. As for public washrooms – I’ll just have to keep my hand salves with me and apply them right after exposing my hands to any unwanted chemicals.

The Advertising Standards Authority has rejected 13 complaints about Cheryl Cole’s L’Oreal Elvive shampoo ad after consumers accused the ‘X Factor’ judge of misleading the public because she has hair extensions.

Cole’s L’Oreal TV ad, which launched on 9 October, features the Girls Aloud singer praising the Elvive Full Restore 5 shampoo and conditioner range.

She says: “My hair feels stronger, full of life, replenished with a healthy shine. It’s got its mojo back.”

Cole, who landed the contract to front the beauty brand in August this year, is known to use artificial hair extensions made from acrylic. Her hairdresser, Julien Guyonnet, told The Sunday Times that he last put extensions into her locks four weeks ago and before that, had given her fibre hair extensions in July.

The pop star’s extensions are noted during the 30-second spot when a message appears that says “styled with some natural extensions”, however it appears on screen for only two seconds.

Fans were annoyed that Cole does not mention the hair extensions herself.
Daisy Goodwin, a television producer and occasional Sunday Times columnists, was among those that complained to the ASA, claiming the ad was misleading.

The ASA ruled that the ad did not break any rules and in its explanation to Goodwin wrote: “A problem would only arise if the ad did not make clear that [Cole] is wearing these extensions.”

UK singer and TV personality Cheryl Cole is under attack from fans who have accused her of deceiving them in a shampoo commercial.

Cole, 26, appears in the L’Oreal advertisement spruiking the company’s latest shampoo and conditioner range.

“My hair feels stronger, full of life, replenished with a healthy shine — it’s got its mojo back,” the pop starlet and X Factor judge says in the commercial.

But Cole actually owes as much of her hair’s volume and healthy appearance to the use of hair extensions which cost up to $1800, UK’s Times newspaper reports.

During the TV advertisement, a message flashes up on the screen for two of the 30 second duration, saying Cole’s hair is “styled with some natural extensions”.

Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority has so far fielded 13 complaints from angry fans who say the commercial is misleading. But the regulatory body has so far rejected all the complaints because of the disclaimer.

However, Cole’s hairdresser Julien Guyonnet told the Times the disclaimer is not correct because the singer regularly uses artificial acrylic hair extensions rather than those made of “natural” hair.

Angry fan Daisy Goodwin said she could not see the reference to Cole’s hair extensions in the commercial.

“My daughter, aged nine, has been saying, ‘Please can we buy the shampoo because I want to look like Cheryl Cole’ — but her hair is not her own,” the Times quoted her as saying.

Martedì 24 Novembre si è svolto, al quarto piano dello strepitoso Nhow Hotel, quello che mi piacerebbe definire (e perchè no istituire) l’Herbal Essence Day. In realtà si è trattato di un incontro, molto ristretto e decisamente piacevole, con la responsabile delle relazioni estere della P&G Italia e con l’hair guru Ben Cooke, brand ambassador Herbal Essences nonchè hair stylist di Victoria Beckham e Leona Lewis.

Ho parlato di incontro piacevole proprio perché le conversazioni, pur vertendo logicamente sul prodotto con qualche piccola incursione in una strategia di copy sfacciata a tratti esilarante (“gli abbracci voluttuosi di Herbal Essences” o “la fragranza ti permette di avere un impatto più emotional“),  hanno avuto come oggetto l’utilizzo pratico del prodotto. Ci hanno instradato con consigli mirati verso la tipologia più adatta, ognuna di noi ha potuto parlare del proprio “problema” con acconciature, colore e capello crespo (recidivo). In pratica sembrava una vera e propria chiacchierata tra amiche con tutti i vezzi e “femminerie” del caso.

La disponibilità al dialogo è stata massima:  non sono mancate, infatti, domande provocatorie sulla questione della pesantezza dell’INCI e l’eccessivo uso di siliconi, cui sono state date risposte difficilmente contestabili come il totale rispetto delle norme basilari per la composizione dell’elenco di cui sopra e il dosaggio di silicone realizzato in maniera specifica in base alla linea.

In conclusione è stato davvero un bel pomeriggio sia per me che per i miei capelli che a breve riceveranno un fantastico trattamento “scintille di luce” così potrò anche io essere sunny, easy, funny, sporty, chic (come suggerisce Gio) e ridare splendore a questo tetro e deprimente tempo milanese.

One thing about European salons that amazes me is how much they treat it as a place of art and beauty. Especially the high end salons where everything from the architecture to the furniture is beautifully designed.

I wanted to share some more specific examples of these gorgeous salon furniture with you, so I’ll start off with something that people don’t often notice: the shampoo chair (or backwash as we call it in the industry). I always say that if your backwash is uncomfortable, then it ruins the whole experience for the customer. Either they can’t enjoy their head massage or they end up with neck pain from poor ergonomic design.

I whipped out some copies of Estetica Design magazine (a luxury publication dedicated to hair and salons) and selected my top 10 Best Designed Shampoo Chairs.

Disclaimer though: my basis for the list is purely on visual impact and uniqueness of concept. There are only 3 of them that I have actually tried having a service on.

Compared to the Philippines, European salons usually apply their hair treatments in the backwash. So the designers make sure that it is as comfortable as possible.

10.  ”Privacy” by Didier Gomez for Maletti

This shampoo chair reminds me so much of IKEA: pretty, minimalist and functional. It doesn’t look bulky and intimidating with its simple geometric shapes and open spaces. The whole body and leg rests can be adjusted to make sure the client is perfectly comfortable.

9. ”Giselle” by Claudio Silvestrin for Maletti

I like this one mainly because of the eye-catching curved block shape of the basin. It goes against the traditional bowl-shape and reminds me of a giant faucet.

8. “Pashá Optima” by Pietranera

I’m not too thrilled with the look of the handrests, but you’ve got to admit, when was the last time you saw three interconnected shampoo chairs?

7. “Aluminum Cherie” by Ceriotti

Didn’t I say that they treat their furniture like artworks? The single curved body is very iconic and striking. This one also goes with the trend these days of less corners and more sleekness (like iPods and the Wii)

6. “Fluid Wash” by Anton Kobrinetz Design for Gamma & Bross

Speaking of curves, this one really lives up to its name “Fluid”. One thing that worries me about this though is the armrest. Looks too sharp to relax your arms in.

5. “Wet Dream” by Ross Lovegrove for Maletti

Very similar to number 7, but with a more fun, retro feel! Also note the more spacious chair and how it is suspended in the air. The silver mercury-drop footrest is another nice touch.

4. ”Luxor” by Matta & Varaschin for Maletti

This might seem more tame than the previous entries, but I ranked this one pretty high because I feel like the design isn’t faddish. These chairs costs a lot of money per unit and if I were a salon owner, I wouldn’t want to change my furniture often. I’ve personally tried this chair and its very very comfortable. Some salons here actually have this unit, like Piandre Salon in Trinoma

3. “Yume” by Takara Belmont

The only Japanese designed chair in the list! The Yume chair is electronically powered to transform into a bed and lift you up to the basin’s level. These chairs are usually placed one per private room in Japan and does everything all in one sitting. No need to stand up and interrupt your beauty treatment.

2. ”Teknowash” by Karim Rashid for Gamma & Bross

Designed by the famous Karim Rashid, this chair tries to incorporate as much technology into it as possible for a very luxurious, unforgettable experience. Apart from the usual hydraulics, there is a built-in iPod dock that allows the hairdresser to select an appropriate relaxing tune for the client. The curved top slowly changes colors for a soothing light experience. And finally, there are hidden pockets that shoots out bursts of air to give you an air pressure massage.

1. “Classic” by Philippe Starck for Maletti

And finally, for my favorite designed shampoo chair, it is the aptly named “Classic” by Philippe Starck! Probably the most minimalist of the bunch with no hydraulics and no electronic doodads. It looks classy and timeless, and I think that compared to all the other chairs, this one will probably still be around 10 years from now or will go down in the industrial design books as an iconic piece.
