One of my very regular customer’s often sets interesting challenges for me, usually for wedding candles and I hope she’s pleased with my latest effort – Personalised  candles for a wedding in Australia with Irish groom and Australian bride.  Sometimes I use flags to represent nationalities, but when it came down to trying to engrave the Australian flag I faltered! Interestingly I did find out the origin of the design from http://www.anbg.gov.au/oz/flag.html -  Apparently the Australian Flag came into being after the federation of the Commonwealth of Australia on 1 Jan 1901.  The flag as it is today was adopted in 1954.  It consists of  - the Union Jack in the first quarter, the Southern Cross in the second quarter – 5 stars in a kite like pattern.  The constellation of the Southern cross is a navigational feature of the southern hemisphere and places Australia geographically and has been associated with the continent since its earliest days.  In the third quarter is the Commonwealth Star – it has 7 points denoting the six states and combined Commonwealth territories.  So there’s always an opportunity to learn something new!

Back to the candle!  - After thinking about kangaroos, sydney opera house, I decided upon the very cute Koala bear.  But now how to represent Ireland – our flag is fairly easy to manage, maybe a koala playing a harp, anything green………….and so it came together – a very cute silver grey koala bear holding a green shamrock.  Now hopefully bride and groom will be pleased with the outcome

Sve je vise glasova koji žele prestavljati «povijest» našeg tisućljetnog plemena, a tvrde sve češće da su Geto Dačani bili «poligami» (Grešnici, Neprijatelji)

Da bi smo dokazali, jednom za uvijek da Geto-Dačani, kao i Germanska, Keltska, Baltička i svaka druga plemena iz Tračanske loze nisu konzumirali alkohol, štoviše oni nisu poznavali alkoholna pića isključujući «Bautura Zeilor» (Božija pića, staro verovanje u Boga Zeusa) nazvana: (Hydromel – Francuski, Hidromiel – Španjolski, Idromele – Italijanski, Hidromel – Portugalski, Mead – Engleski, Miod – Ruski, Med – Ukrajinski, Met – Njemački, Medovina -Čehoslovacki,Srpski,Hrvatski, Slovenski, Sima – Finski, Hydromeli – Latinski, Midus – Letonski).

Naj vazniji dokaz nalazimo u «Strabonovoj Geografiji» točnije u 7-moj knjizi, trećem poglavlju.

«Eleni» su Gete nazivali Tračanima,oni su bili nastanjeni na obalama istre. Činjenica se odnosi kolko na Gete, toliko i na Moeze posljednji iz loze Tračana.

Oči njihove okreću ih nazad Tračanskoj zemlji, u kojoj samo sto ne izbi rat izmedju Moeza i divljačkih plemena.

Poseidonis kaze da su se moezi cuvali svih mesnih proizvoda iz religijoznih razloga. Zbog toga se nisu niti brinuli oko čuvanja i odgoja zivotinja. Pretežno su se hranili sirom, mlijekom, medom… Živeci u miru,iako su bili nazvani Osvajačima sa strane Zeova (bogova).

Postojali su i Tračani koji nisu imali bližeg odnosa sa suprotnim polom, nazvani su «intemeietori» cak su proglašeni svetima, zbog njihove časti i tokom života bez straha.

Htio bih još skrenuti pažnju na to koliko su Odrisi (Odrisko Carstvo) i tribali koji potjeću iz Traćanske loze konzumirali vino ili druge opijajuće substance kao što su: Konoplja, proklete pećurke ili čak opijum. Sve ove substance koje su koristila spomenuta plemena, kasnije su se proširila i na prostore Dakije, osvajanjem ovih ili onih teritorija na čelu sa spomenutim kraljem i jako cijenjenim vođom Daćana «Burebistom» (Burebista).

Znači…Pouka svega ovog jest da su sve ove supstance, alkohol, i dr, unošene kasnije u Daćansku zemlju, na ovaj ili onaj način.

Sve ove optužbe na račun Geto-Daćana, nasih pradjedova predstavlja veliki napad praćen degeneracijom i kaljanjem obraza velikog našeg naroda Geto-Daćana, nazvanih Naj pravedniji i naj hrabriji medju Traćanima.

Naši neprijatelji Poligami koji su veliki alkoholičari i korisnici narkotika, izgleda da zavide našim pradjedovima što su zivjeli svetim, čistim i časnim životom.

Sábado por la noche y decido ir a visitar al buen Abraham para que me ayude a configurar mi Blackberry en Mandriva, pero la verdad era solo un pretexto para vernos e ir a tomar unos tequilas.

Las ganas que tenía él de tomar una cerveza irlandesa nos llevo a visitar un bar ubicado en el hotel real de minas, frente a las instalaciones de la feria: El ShamRock.

-Tomate una cerveza Guinness, verás que no tiene nada que ver con las cervezas que conoces- Me dijo Abraham. Y así fue, sinceramente no soy una persona que beba cerveza, nunca he tenido ese gusto pero la verdad es que el sabor era diferente y agradable.

Entre charlas de trabajo, software libre, música y demás me comentó que la banda que tocaba en vivo en ese lugar era la de Armando, un chavo de la misma edad de Abraham que lo considerábamos un trucho para la guitarra.

Pero cual fue nuestra sorpresa, que la banda que realmente se presentaría seria una traída del DF llamados New Lunatics (Los Lunaticos).

El concepto estaba genial: Rock and Roll de los 50’s, tanto en la vestimenta, actitud y propuesta musical. Un trío compuesto por Ace (Contrabajo), Boogie (Guitarra) y Jon (Bateria) que no pedía nada al grupo que esperabamos, ya llenaba por completo el escenario con su música y show.

Desde el principio a fin nos mantuvo cautivados, con ganas de aventarse dos tres pasitos de Twist con las ñoras de alado que realizaban una reunión de trabajo para celebrar no se que.

La velada estuvo buenísima, complementando la anécdota de que andaba una reportera del noticiero local, al cual obtuve su autógrafo (jejejejeje). Puro pretexto para sacarle para sacarle un besito en la mejilla.

En fin, les recomiendo esta banda, espero que puedan crecer y darse conocer en grande.

The German battleship Bismarck is one of the most famous warships of the Second World War. The lead ship of her class and named after the 19th century German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck.

Bismarck displaced more than 50,000 tonnes fully loaded and was the largest warship then commissioned. Bismarck only took part in one operation during her brief career. She and the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen left Gotenhafen (Gdynia) on the morning of 19 May, 1941 for Operation Rheinübung, during which she was to have attempted to intercept and destroy convoys in transit between North America and Great Britain.

When Bismarck and Prinz Eugen attempted to break out into the Atlantic, the two ships were discovered by the Royal Navy and brought to battle in the Denmark Strait. During the short engagement, the British battlecruiser HMS Hood, flagship of the Home Fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, was sunk after several minutes of firing.

In response, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill issued the order to “Sink the Bismarck”, spurring a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy. Two days later, with Bismarck almost in reach of safer waters, Fleet Air Arm aircraft launched from the carrier HMS Ark Royal torpedoed the ship and jammed her rudder, allowing heavy British units to catch up with her. In the ensuing battle on the morning of 27 May, 1941, Bismarck was heavily attacked for nearly three hours before sinking

Titanic was designed to be a marvel of modern safety technology and her accommodations were the most modern and luxurious on any ocean. With the sun shining and the somewhat cool temps on the last day of the eighth month, one is reminded of several interludes in the past in particularily focusing on the Irish vane. The first interlude came in the early 60’s as the decade was just underway. The senseless act of President Kennedy. Personally one was age 21 then with hopes and dreams of the future. Then as that act occurred these feelings were shattered apart. Not to mention the innuendoes that followed, as the result of that act. One still has chills as a result of watching the footage on film. Then toward the end of the 60’s, Senator Kennedy of New York State died as he was struck down. Again one felt so saddened at this act of cowardice that it just was revolting yet a reality. Then the third brother died after a bout with an illness which has taken his life as well as a trillion others. President Kennedy and wife were attuned as the royal couple of the US. Senator Kennedy of New York State was the hope and dream that the US would seek. Senator Kennedy of Massachusetts was the courageous example in his actions. As those 3 brothers are at peace in Arlington National: it brought back memories for oneself. During their lives they weren’t perfect human beings. Yet as they shared their expectations with the American people, they were deeply criticised. The American people were very judgmental. Was it the fact of who they were, being a Kennedy? Would the American people act the same if they were just people or neighbours down the street? One would doubt that. One would think that another Kennedy will carry on the works of their family in years to come. To bear the torch as the cavalcade brings forth the dignity and respect in which the family is known and shown to others.

The Araneta Coliseum was jam-packed on last Monday’s (August 17 2009 7PM) concert dubbed as YConCon (Youth Concert Convention) – The Sequel – Isang Araw lang! Various music Philippine bands participated that shook the venue. Breadcrumbs gave the first number, to be followed by the Play band. Then after that, the only Kuya who is also known as Mr. Public Service, Kuya Daniel Razon gave his number and the crowd went yelling with great joy! Kuya Daniel Razon sang his carrier single of the album, Isang Araw Lang. The album received award that it is already nearing Platinum award in terms of the number of albums sold, isang araw lang (in just one day).

I går var jeg på avskjedsfest for ei venninne som skal flytte tilbake til Sverige igjen. Etter at vi ankom festen, som holdt hus i Fakirskolens lokaler i malmøgata var det relativt få folk der. Vi var der ganske tidlig på kvelden. Noe som var egentlig ganske greit. Ettersom at etter ca 40 min etter annkomst så tok det fyr der det dj boden var. Først smalt det noe voldsomt, og en rakett lignende sak føyk gjennom rommet der det begynte å brenne. Jeg trodde først det var mr Dj som hadde fyrt av en rakett eller noe. Men så hørte jeg fort etterpå at folk rope at det brant. Jeg gikk fort bort får å se, og da var allerede hele veggen antent. Det gikk jævlig fort før hele lokalet var røykbelagt. Skummelt for å si det sånn. Det var bra det skjedde så tidlig på kvelden før folk hadde fått i seg nok alhohyler.. Da kunne værre ting skjedd. Ingen ble skadet, dog kun inventar og mye teknisk anlegg.
Festen tok brått slutt for å si det sånn, men vi dro over på Shamrock for å ta et par pils før folka dro videre..

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Gina Carano

St. Patrick’s Day (also known as St. Paddy’s Day) falls each year on March 17.  It originated from the country or Ireland, with parts of Ireland observing it as a public holiday.  In the United States, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated but not officially observed as a holiday.  Although originally tied in with the Roman Catholic faith, today, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by non-believers also.  Generally, Americans, of Irish descent or not, would wear green (not entire costume, just one article of clothing) as the color green in the Irish culture is seen as a color of luck.  In parades around the nation, one may see men wearing green hats!  (A man wearing a green hat is not a taboo in the Irish culture, but so in the Chinese culture.)  Likewise, a shamrock may be given to one another for good luck.  In fact, Americans have been very conscious to wear green on this day to avoid getting pinched!  As an excuse to drink alcohol, especially Irish alcoholic beverages, people may also declare themselves “Irish for a day”. 

            Legend has it that St. Patrick’s Day is supposed to be the luckiest day to spot a leprechaun.  The belief is that if you see one, keep staring at it as it will have lead you to his pot of gold which he keeps at the end of a rainbow or grant you three wishes.  Remember to keep your stare because once you blink or divert your gaze, it will disappear forever.  Try your luck on this day!  Maybe you’ll spot a leprechaun and his pot of gold and have luck for the rest of the year!  Good luck!  (Source: Kolnkgin)
