Shana (シャナ, 「炎髪灼眼の討ち手」)

Shana is the female lead of Shakugan no Shana and a Flame Haze.

In the beginning of the show, Shana is solely concentrating on her duty as a Flame Haze. Fighting all the time she doesn’t even bear a name. One day, during another fight, Shana meets Yuji. She sees Yuji as nothing more than another Torch though, an object interesting only because of its status. However she slowly opens up to him, coming to think of him as an actual person. Going through many different battles together, Shana eventually comes to fall in love with Yuji. Yuji eventually names Shana after her Sword, Nietono no Shana.

Shana has a funny habit of saying ‘Urusai’ (‘Shut up!’) three times in a row whenever Yuji makes a remark which disturbs her way of seeing things. Also Shana is very fond of melon bread.

Sakai Yuuji 　(坂井悠二)

Yuji, the main character of the story, is just an average high school student. However, his world is turned upside down when he discovers that he is already dead and does not have much time before he disappears. Fortunately, Yuji is a Mystes who contains a treasure known as the Reiji Maigo. The treasure inside him restores his Power of Existence every night at midnight. With the Reiji Maigo, Yuji has the possibility to live on like an average human as long as he makes sure that his Power of Existence does not run out before midnight.

Yuji is kind person who puts others before himself. This often draws much confusion and annoyance from Shana, as prior torches from Shana’s experience exhibited selfish attitudes. However, Yuji’s compassion and empathy sow the seeds of attraction between him and Shana.

JUDGE’S COMMENTS

Mark – Once again, the idea that the big challenge was in the S/Q is proven incorrect. Cleber knocks that combination out of the park! Both of those letters look completely natural, like there isn’t even much special going on. However, the bigger challenge (again) lives next door: the “h” in Shana. Overall, this was one of my favorite submissions on this round.

Nagfa -

Nikita – Cleber continues his outstanding ambigram work with this submission. What I love about this ambigram (as well as several others in this ACAC) is the consistency of the letterforms. My favorite letter inversion is the ‘S/Q’ combination. Beautifully done! What makes it a bit challenging is once again ‘h/i’ combination, as well as the consistency of the three lowercase ‘a’ characters. Other than those slight drawbacks, a very nicely designed ambigram!

Every week one of the kids is the kitchen helper.  Last week Samuel helped with setting the table, preparing food, and cleaning up.  Melissa is our kitchen helper this week.  She and I made cupcakes with pink frosting and sprinkles this afternoon.  Thanks Melissa!

In the pile of stuff I am trying to ford through during food breaks, Railgun and Nyan Koi continue to stay ahead of the pack. Kampfer is okay, but frankly it is less story and more lesbian almost-sex, which is fine I suppose. Nyan Koi however bumped up with these two delicious twintail girls in Ep. 6, and you know how much I love twintails, right behind glasses and tsundere-type.

No new Shana yet, which is largely disappoint. Dunno what the exactly release schedule is on these OVAs, and if there really is a season 3. Better be, been awhile since we had new delicious SHANA IS HOT.

I’ve been grabbing Seitokai and Shugo Chara episodes but I haven’t watched either since 2. Seitokau because I just haven’t gotten around to it yet, and Shugo Chara, well the anime part is less than 10 minutes of the episode, so really I am not missing much by watching them in batches, if at all. Also up to date on cake, but have only watched through 4 or so.

Need to grab some batches of older stuff again that I’ve missed over the years. Anyone got some suggestions? Anything except sappy male romance, you yaoi fangirls can keep that to yourselves. Mecha is a plus plus.

And actually, theres little reason for that, since I’ve had a few in the cabinet gathering dust for a little while now, just waiting for them to be posted with a sufficient reason to do so… However, today, I completed a new one which allows me to do a special post, whee.

And yeah, its the Fire and Ice cliche. Do I love stereotypes too  much? Probably. Oh well.

First of all, have a flaming hot shax-able Shana wallpaper:

Since Shana used to grace Detarame’s main banner for over a year, you’d be correct in thinking she’s one of my favourite anime characters of all time. After all, she sort of started the recent loli tsundere trend that carried on with Louise, Nagi, Taiga etc. (most of these with the same voice actress, for extra immersion factor, LOL). She is of course famous for her obsession with Melon-pan and her penchant for saying ‘Urusai! Urusai! Urusai!’ (aka. ‘Shut Up! Shut Up! Shut Up!’).

Anyway, as for the wallpaper, I just had the idea to actually place her in a ring of fire after seeing that above picture of her sitting in the coat with Alastor. Adding Nietono no Shana (her sword) stuck in the ground in front slightly off camera also seemed to come naturally. After that, various masking effects were added, and eventually, the other image of her in flame haze form from the first artbook was added. Finally, this is a picture almost made for the ‘Blazed’ font. LOL.

Secondly, its the icy expression of the pair, a Blanc Neige Wallpaper:

Blanc Neige is from Shining Tears (and Shining Wind, in an older, longer haired form) and is one of Tony Taka’s more famous character designs. She is the big blaster mage in that, obviously using a huge amount of ice against everything. Though I can’t actually comment on her effectiveness, since I’ve not actually played the game.

I guess this image has done plenty of rounds. I’m quite sure its been in several other wallpapers not made by me, which is why, I guess, it took such a while for me to get around to implementing it. That said, I did alot more touch-up on it than some may have done from the original. Most notably, her skin tone was made paler, the edges were slightly re-drawn and softened, and her cape was re-colourised slightly. The background ended up alot simpler than the Shana paper, but I thought that just the production art and snowflakes were sufficient. Again, this was a good chance to use my favourite icy font as well.

Anyway, thats about all for today. I’ll probably update the Unsorted page with this stuff in the next couple of days too. And maybe they’ll be some more sketch related goodness in due course. So, see ya then.

I was sitting in East Asian Literature class today (What class I was in is kinda irrelevant… actually, it’s kinda ironic) and randomly got a nosebleed.  Thankfully it was a relatively large class and I just stealthily slid out of my seat and took care of the problem. What actually caused the sudden discharge of blood surplus is a mystery. It’s not like I was looking at NSFW images or anything on my laptop, nor was the professor hot or anything (actually both statements are for the most part true. The professor is actually kinda hot and I was wasting time on my laptop browsing through anime related websites that had potentially NSFW material on them.) But one thing is for sure though… and that is that nosebleeds aren’t caused by arousal of any kind. According to my sources (by sources I mean the first couple of links on the first page of Google search, one of which was a Yahoo! Answers question.), the link between nosebleeds and arousal in Japanese anime and manga started with some old wives’ tale. It’s supposed to be a euphemism or an implication for ejaculation. Recently, female characters have begun showing the same tendency as their horny male counterparts, most notably fujoshi and lesbian characters (with Kanako from Maria Holic in the lead). What nosebleeds can imply for those female characters can only be stopped by your imagination.

This got me thinking, what if arousal actually did cause nosebleeds? Well, on one hand, it could cause a lot of unnecessary messes and complications, and on the other, it might not be so bad. Everyone would have to carry around those portable Kleenex packs. Considering how sick our minds are, we would probably all bleed to death by the end of the day. Putting that aside… let’s look at some of the lighter complications of nosebleeds. People would inadvertently bleed in front of someone they did not wish to see them do so, this would lead to the other person bleeding back or ignoring the bleed and the person all together from there on out. This would ultimately lead to human society taking a totally animalistic turn in its sexuality. Everyone would be completely open about their sexuality whether they like it or not. No beating around the bush, no religious sects suppressing any cardinal desires, no hiding our loli or furry fetishes. Everything would be out in the open and practicality would ensue, whether this is a good or bad thing would be up to whoever lived in such an alternative universe.

What was the point of this post you ask? Well, I haven’t updated my blog in ages, which is a shame, so what better way to give it some life than with a completely useless post about nosebleeds? (Anything?) Anyway, if I were to post anything again, it would probably be about Railgun, which is airing at the moment and Shakugan no Shana S, which I am patiently waiting for the second episode for.

I often sit back and reflect upon all that I’ve watches recently and think “Man, Japan loves lesbian overtones in their anime.” I then promptly shrug and continue watching. I am a guy after all. Not like yaoi fangirls wonder the same thing about Gundam series. Wonder if they think that about the originals though. Bright Noa and Amuaro? OH YES SIR, BRIGHT SLAP ME SOMEMORE.

That was a terrible idea.

Anyway, I haven’t gotten to watching stuff in awhile, I downloaded everything, but between work, a job interview, my girlfriend’s surgery, and Borderlands/WoW, I seem to be forgetting to sit down and watch anime. I did however hit this week’s Kampfer and Railgun as I was eating lunch, and not much new there. Kampfer threw another crazy probably-lesbian into the fray and kinda touched on some sort of LOL PLOT which I doubt will go anywhere unless this is a 26 episode series, for which I will be surprised. Railgun of course continues to be my favorite series of this season with the LEGENDARY BADASS Misaka and teleporting lesbian Kuriko. Still wondering what they’re going to do with this “side-story” from Index, I want to figure based on the OP that it’s going to deal with the creation of the The Sisters and Last Order, hopefully with more Last Order since they didn’t give her much screen time in Index and she was the cutest of The Sisters and their third-person speech.

No new Shana S either this week, dunno how that is working. I keep hearing rumors of a third season but I can’t sort the trolling from the non-trolling in /a/ with all the other shitstorming happening there.

Speaking of trolling, /a/tards also keep saying the Nanoha movie is cancelled even though I find no such mention of it on Wiki, ANN, or any other anime news site. I’m looking forward to the PSP game honestly, but movie = very yes.

Eventually I’ll wall up something more substantial than this. Borderlands however, consumes me.

ISML 2009 ends today (at least the main tournament). Hinagiku has beaten Shana by 11 points once again upsetting the top seed. With that, Hinagiku is crowned the champion of ISML 2009. Congratulation Hinagiku! Shana had a good run here with this being her third loss for the entire year, but she couldn’t win where it mattered most.

This might actually be a record for ISML not that it matters much.

Well, it’s not over yet. Another round for the relegation matches will occur this Thursday (rounds 12 and 13). It appears that each character will have 2 matches at once, so it may be confusing a bit. There will also be 6 exhibition matchups featuring 12 characters which are unknown at the moment. I hope for this to be interesting. I’m expecting a lower turnout for the next matches.

Again, Shana has more successes in tournaments, although Hinagiku did beat her in Best Moe 2007 to take the crown. Shana also has been doing well here in ISML as well going in ranked #1. Hinagiku has been really impressive being in the finals ranked #11. She has had a lot of losses for a possible champion in making.

Looking at the past records, Shana has the advantage with a 3-2 record over her. She could have been Best Moe Champion if Hinagiku hadn’t beat her by only 2 points (closer than even this year’s close match with Taiga and Kagami).

My final predictions say that Shana will pull an upset. Hinagiku has done really well in tournament play beating #6, #3, #7, and #1, but she’s still #11 and beating #1 again is a difficult task. Shana appears to be even more powerful than before because of the recent OVA (which came a tad too late last time). This is shown with her recent victory against Tomoyo.

Hinagiku only has to win one more time to win the tiara while Shana needs to win twice. Could Shana pull this off, or will Hinagiku triumph over her again? Again, one win for Hinagiku and it’s over.

This may also be the last of the relegation matches. I don’t think Reimu will be able to beat Mai, so Louise, Mikoto, Mai, Ayu, and Sayuri should be eligible for next year’s ISML. I’m not 100% sure though.

In exhibition, once again it’s a character I know vs. a character I don’t know. This does not make things too interesting. In this case, I only know Haruka, so I’ll go for her. I never really saw Darker than Black, but I do plan on watching both seasons. This matchup just came too early for me to go for Yin. I would’ve probably go for Haruka anyways. Maybe.

Elimination Match. Shana exacts revenge on Tomoyo for beating her 2 times by over 500 votes eliminating my favorite Clannad character. She earns a rematch against Hinagiku that has a potential to go differently from last time thanks to the OVA maybe. Once again, Shana is my favorite to win. Tomoyo settles for 3rd place.

5th Place Match. Another upset here. Although Tomoyo fell hard, Kyou picks up a win against last year’s champion Fate. Kyou settles for 5th place while Fate is 6th.

Relegation. Since the tournament is almost over, I thought I should give some thoughts to this. With 9 wins, it looks like Louise, Mai, and Mikoto will be in the nominations for ISML 2010 for sure. Reimu, Ayu, and Sayuri are in the running with 6 wins each (the latter 2 had ties meaning less losses). The rest are pretty much out, although Hayate and Misuzu Kamio have 5 wins each.

I think out of these Mikoto has the best chance of actually being in ISML. My guess is that Ayu and Sayuri will be the other two characters to be eligible for nomination unless they lose and Reimu wins. I won’t know who they’re up against until the match gets closer.

Exhibition. It was close, but Misuzu Kusakabe wins. Hopefully the next exhibition matchup will be between characters I know.

Next: Championship match: Shana vs. Hinagiku (last match if Hinagiku wins), Relegation, possible exhibition

Not that you really missed me or anything, I am prone to disappearing from time to time, though never really completely from the Internet. Between my girlfriend’s surgery and recovery, Borderlands, and WoW, I’ve been keeping busy.

However I can at least summarize what I watched from last week’s lot of crap.

Shana S: I totally expected some better awkward moments with the body swap, srsly. But it’s still Shana, and awesome. Hope the third season comes out after the OVA.

Kampfer: This isn’t “Series of the Year” or anything, but it’s cheesy, campy, and the sexual innuendos are pretty funny. I’m hoping the GRIMDARK LOL plot surfaces here pretty soon though, while I enjoy what I see, it also confuses me where it’s going.

Railgun: This is so far my favorite series of the current season, it’s like Index but without Index and a lot of the other junk. As long as MISAKA and Last Order makes an appearance at some point, this series will win hard. Last Order didn’t make nearly enough screen time in Index.

Nyan Koi!: Former Amazon-woman’s tits are hueg liek xbox, srsly. I can see they’re leaning towards harem anime on this one, harem both in women and cats. Still, probably my second favorite of the season for random.

Yumeiro Patissiere: When they say Shugo Chara with cake, it’s about right, but I’ll admit if they continue this predictable episode format of 1. Announce pastry to make 2. Ichigo fucks it up 3. Ichigo cries 4. Fairy kicks her shit in gear 5. Ichigo gets it right it’s gonna be worse than the episodic format of House. But still decent stuff.

Notice I am not writing about Shugo Chara! Party! That’d be because I haven’t watched it. Frankly for less than 10 minutes of actual anime content, I might just watch them in batches of 10. Or just drop it and watch the batch at the end. Peh.

Totuşi, din moment ce suntem schimbaţi, primim o veste bună: NU SUNTEM SINGURI. Ceva interacţionează asupra noastră. Ceva ne pune în mişcare ansamblul nostru şi în felul acesta ne întreţine viaţa (se ştie deja că viaţa înseamnă mişcare, nu ne mai oprim asupra acestui punct).
Uită-te în jurul tău! Cine sau ce te schimbă? Acordă atenţie asupra acestui detaliu dacă vrei să ştii cum te transformi.

Ca material didactic am ales un anime intitulat Shakugan no Shana, care îmi place foarte mult. Aici, ceea ce reprezintă viaţa unui om a fost denumită existenţă (“power of existence”). Pe parcursul poveştii, apar personajele negative care acumulau cu ajutorul unor creaturi aceste puteri ale existenţei, făcând ca respectivele persoane care au fost “înghiţite” să dispară. Dar dacă tot mai multe persoane ar fi dispărut brusc, ar fi zdruncinat percepţia celor care îi cunoşteau, iar echilibrul lumii ar fi fost distrus. Cu scopul de a înfrunta aceşti inamici exista o castă de luptători numiţi Flame Haze care aveau şi datoria de a înlocui pe cei dispăruţi cu nişte “torţe de existenţă”. Persoanele care cunoşteau pe cel ce fusese înghiţit şi vedeau torţa care îi ţinea locul, ei percepeau flacăra ca fiind chiar acea persoană. Dar în timp ce flacăra se micşora, tot aşa era şi cu memoria celor din jur: îşi aminteau to mai puţin despre persoana cel ce fusese de fapt “înghiţit”. Când torţa se stingea, toţi ceilalţi trăiau de ca şi cum acea persoană nici nu a existat.

Şi mă gândeam în privinţa aceasta: existenţa noastră contează atunci avem formă în conştiinţa celor de lângă noi. Am fi nimic dacă în percepţia celorlalţi sunt nimic. Trebuie să dăm valoare ceea ce suntem, căci Dumnezeu ne-a făcut să existăm. Trebuie să preţuim acest dar şi mai ales trebuie să avem grijă cum ne modelăm existenţa. Pentru că nu e numai a noastră…

Porque los enemigos son muy diferentes, todos muy innovadores!

Porque tiene las colegialas y el fan service que todo anime debe tener (ya sé que estoy exagerando, no me odien)

Porque el soundtrack es buenísimo, aunque se lo hayan robado a Sakura card captor, no me importa.

Porque Yuuji y Shana es mi pareja favorita de anime.

Porque el arte es mi favorito, ojos grandes, nariz pequeña, figuras alargadas (sé que son dibujos cliché, pero son mis favoritos)

Porque los capítulos de relleno son muy divertidos.

Porque ninguna saga es aburrida, no es un anime eterno, pero tampoco sientes que falte más historia (si hay algo pero mejor no lo digo para no ‘spoilerear’)

Porque soy un fanboy

Lo que no me gusta:

Que no consigo las novelas ligeras para leerlas ¿alguien que se apiade y me pase el link mágico que tenga las últimas 5?

Que la animación a veces deja mucho que desear, el oso no está animado, solo aparenta movimiento porque su alrededor se mueve.

Este post en honor a las ovas de Shakugan no Shana S que acaba de salir el primer capítulo el 23 de octubre, la última ova está preparada hasta octubre de 2010 (tanto Noooooooooo), que seguramente va a coincidir con el inicio de la tercera temporada
