Man, have i been waiting for that to happen. 2012 i mean. I know a lot is gonna happen, as much as i’m sure nothing is gonna happen. Obviously, i’m talking about two different things, no contradiction here, be assured. It’s not like the end of the world is a real thing, though i wish it was. I would love to be able to post on my social network pages ‘End of the world : been there, done that !’ but this is just not gonna happen, i’m no fool – at least not to that extent. Though i think a lot of other things are gonna happen. First of all, a lot of music, that’s for sure. More gigs and shows and possibly around Asia, not only in China… and who knows ? Maybe even slowly closing in with Europe and those distant scenes… On the way, there might be a chance to do some performances as well, we never know.

Original Fools will be out in 2012, that’s another sure thing. Damscray and myself are accumulating a heavy dosage of frustration and craving for a live show, so we’ll have to spread the word out there so that the duo can finally be united again, somewhere between Russia and China. Here is a shiny new player with a freshly uploaded set through my soundcloud page, but do check the Original Fools page as well for more tracks to preview !

Talking about Soundcloud, a quick mention to the increase of traffic on my page, for some shady reasons and unknown factors that leave me wondering ‘what the f*ck is going on with you people ?!?’ I mean, what’s the trick, huh ? How come there’s been a few hundreds followers for years, and all of a sudden i’m circling in the few thousands ? I mean, might just get beyond the 10.000 followers before the end of the month/year, and thought it’s pleasing, don’t get me wrong, it really does cause a strange doubt and meditative cynical thoughts in my tormented brain. Mass-Media Madness, the 3 holy M’s ruling this almost 2012 world. All in all, that’s a good thing and i guess i should be thanking those of you who really care and support my music, so thank you. I’m forever in your debt, keep spreading the word, let’s make it happen together. Maybe 2012 will see Didjelirium a bit more out there, amongst normal people… Geez, that sounds freaky… >_<

On another topic, the sequel to my french hip-hop project is also in the making right now, since it seems french rap still has a few supporters and i do enjoy writing in french as well. Schizocele was the first part in my initial plan, which is to lay down a trilogy. I've been leaving it to rest long enough, now it's time to get back on it ! So coming up soon, more madness and insanely true stories told in frog language, for those who understand, those who would like to and those who wish they didn't !

Meanwhile, there's life in Shanghai and work and our regular events and xmas season and stupid party flyers and awful people thinking they are so beautiful… Life as it is, in and out. Anyway, as announced by the picture on top of this post, tonight is Shanghai by Bus, special Reggae Xmas session once again down the Shelter, so get your dancing shoes on and hide your bottle of home made eggnog cos that’s where we’ll be til the morning light !

Yes Shanghai folks ! Uprooted Sunshine Soundsystem are back at The Shelter with your monthly dose of good vibes! Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, Ska and Roots on the Soundsystem and a lot of nice sweaty people shaking den booty pon the dance floor. You know how we roll right ? Well… if you don’t, then you should definitely come down those dark stairs and see it for yourself.

This month sees the return of HangZhou’s DJ Maze and a special dub set by dji feat ChaCha on vocals and our brand new official sunshine : George Wyndham on Harmonica! Be there or be quare ! Yes… QUARE !!!

Yes yes yes people !

After ruling with Shanghai by Bus for more than 5 years now, Uprooted Sunshine keeps spreading its vibes across the nations. Next step : Kazakhstan. Yes, i know, Reggae in Borat’s country ? How come ? Well, Borat is Ali G’s cousin so i guess it’s ok in a way, and remember, it’s only a movie ! Most of the takes were actually shot in Romania, if i recall well… >_<
Anyway, as a crew consisting of seven members, we know we have to split most of the time for gigs here and there because nobody can decently fly the whole team for a party… We're not famous enough for that…just yet ! Hey hey ! But still, we have this habit of sending Uprooted's commando squads on missions for the musical cause. This time, Arminda, Didjelirium and Esia have been selected for the next contract that has been offered to the Uprooted Sunshine : Kazakhstan !

So here we come, June is the month when Shanghai by Bus expands past the chinese border once more and become Almaty by Bus ! Alongside Studio 29 and Jammin’ Bus Soundsystem, we’re gonna bring the faya to Kazakhstan and spend some good time with our friend and other soldier of positivity Timur, the head who made this happen. Big up ! Of course, more infos, pics and videos will come out of this at some point, but for now, if you happen to be in Almaty around that time, get that event pinned down on your calendar cos it’s gonna be maaaaaaaassive !

* – cелектор (selector, selecta) – незаменимый человек в саунд системе,
фактически выполняющий работу диджея в европейском/американском
понимании этого слова, но в немного другом формате. Задача селектора
– подбирать музыку, именно селекция здесь ключевое. А в остальном,
техника селектора сходна с техникой диджея, куда входит всевозможная
работа со звуком и управление эффектами, исключая тот момент, что
селектор обычно не сводит треки.

** — диджей (deejay, DJ) — вопреки современному пониманию этого
слова, на Ямайке диджей — это не тот кто ставит и сводит пластинки,
а тот кто работает с микрофоном (подогревает публику рифмами).

“Carter Van Pelt aka “President Carter” is host of the Jamaican music program “Eastern Standard Time” on WKCR 89.9 FM, heard on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon in New York City.
Van Pelt has been documenting Jamaican popular music as a writer, radio broadcaster, and archivist since the early 1990s. He has a master’s degree in arts administration from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska. His master’s thesis examined collective rights management in Jamaica.

Among his published articles, two are collected as book chapters in Reggae, Rasta, Revolution, ed. Chris Potash (Schirmer Books, Simon & Schuster, 1997) and Let The Fury Have The Hour, ed. Antonio D’Ambrosio (Nation Books, 2004). The Beat magazine has published six of his articles as cover features. In the late 1990s, he briefly published the fanzine 400 Years.
Carter produced the DVD documentary for Burning Spear’s album Our Music in 2005 and compiled the Thompson Sound release Linval Thompson: The Early Sessions, including the accompanying DVD, in 2006.
