Turks and Caicos, a scarcely known group of islands in the Caribbean, had been enjoying the good life for the last 6 years. The economic windfall came from foreign resort developments and the financial banking sector known to be a tax haven.

In August 2009, the government and its autonomous constitution was over-thrown by the British. UK, purportedly having been told by a group of islanders (led by TCI Journal) that corruption existed between the government and foreign investors, conducted an investigation into these claims.

Since the UK’s take-over in August, the people of Turks and Caicos have grown mutinous over UK’s reported mismanagement of the island’s economy. Increased taxes, cuts in benefits, loss of jobs and amendments of the financial sector have caused many islanders alarm of the loss of prosperity that they once enjoyed. Many islanders claim that if UK is there to “bail them out” then why are they penalizing the people and what are they doing with the revenue.

Newly elected Peoples Democratic Movement leader (a political party in Turks and Caicos), Doug Parnell says that UK leadership in Turks and Caicos is now “akin to Cuba”, a dictatorship. The governor, Gordon Wetherell, makes all decisions solely.

Furthermore, all rights to a jury trial have been abolished by the UK as to the entire population. This has raised many eyebrows calling into question a witch hunt with a supreme decision already mapped.

When the UK took over governance of the islands in August, a newly elected Premier, Gallmo Williams, had been already elected and in office for nearly six months following the accused Premier Michael Misick’s resignation. Mr. Williams calls UK’s move, a coup.

How did these claims of wrong doing in Turks and Caicos come about? It was not an organic grass root’s effort as once reported. It is now known to have been caused by the accusations and orchestration of a web blog in the islands called TCI Journal which has been shrouded in controversy since early 2008.

TCI Journal is run by Shaun Malcolm, who the national main stream media calls a “political opportunist.” However, he is rumored to have several backers. The site is known to use fictitious letters to the editors and pseudonyms to make allegations and innuendo against the local government officials and foreign businessmen in the islands.

Some twelve months ago, TCI Journal wrote to UK parliament making claims of impropriety of then Premier, Michael Misick. However, once Misick left office under a cloud of suspicion, the accusations did not stop by TCI Journal.

It now turns out that the target of TCI Journal and Shaun Malcolm is ultimately UK’s Lord Michael Ashcroft, a major investor in Turks and Caicos.

Yesterday, TCI Journal and Shaun Malcolm wrote another letter to Parliament and Queen Elizabeth claiming to speak on behalf of “thinking citizens” of Turks and Caicos. It stated that islanders are grateful for UK’s intervention, which has islanders hopping mad. But the letter also asks Westminster the following:

“We respectfully and sincerely ask for your written assurance that Lord Ashcroft will not be influencing, directly or indirectly, decisions regarding the Turks and Caicos Islands should the Conservatives win the next election, and if you are willing to give us these assurances then we kindly ask for you to work with us now to establish tangible safeguards towards this goal.” The letter goes on with specific allegations of cronyism with Michael Misick’s government.

It is now reported that on Monday, Lord Michael Ashcroft will be required to face questions in the parliament with respect to these claims of alleged impropriety. These are allegations which Lord Michael Ashcroft flatly denies. Lord Ashcroft released a statement today stating that the accusations by Shaun Malcolm are false.

Two great options from Boulder Canyon for those who are looking for a great-tasting GF snack. I first found these at Whole Foods in Pasadena. Then I noticed the Ralph’s Fresh Fare grocery store in downtown LA (down the block from me) also carries them.

The rice and adzuki  bean goes great with hummus. I’ve also broken up pieces into chili for a quasi-tortilla taste.

The potato chips are good too – lots of crunch.

AND, so sorry for the delay in posting. i promise i have a lot of catch-up to do, including all things Asher!! {yes, we did FINALLY decide on a name!!} my mom has been helping with so much fun crafting stuff for cailyn and asher AND we finally have his room together!! less than a week and a half until his arrival! we are so very excited and we have also been soaking up the last few weeks as a family of three!!

Last weekend I was on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood and saw “gluten-free pizza” on the window of a newish restaurant- Pizza Fusion. I also read: “organic” and “vegan,” too. I decided tonight sounded like a good pizza night, so I went to try it out…

They have a happy hour, but no GF options on it. The regular menu is pretty robust. You can either make your own or choose from one of their specialties. There were too many options, so I decided to order a beer first. There were three GF options. I ordered the Greens Tripel Blonde Ale–a Belgium beer. It was good…a bit too sweet for me, but had a 8.5% alcohol level and was a larger-sized bottle.

I ended up ordering the “Farmer’s Market” pizza – lots of veggies, and I added roasted chicken, substituted the cheese for soy cheese and, of course, asked for the GF crust.

The pizza came out pretty quickly, and it was really good. Admittedly, I haven’t had a real pizza in about five years, but this one did the trick. It was thin crust, not too saucy and rectangular in shape. The veggies tasted fresh and not overcooked.

I ate half of a large pizza and then decided to order a brownie, since they make them there. I asked for it ala mode -with Strawberry sorbet. This dessert was great. Vegan and GF. Incredibly moist and rich chocolate brownie with cocoa powder and powdered sugar. Adding the surprisingly creamy strawberry sorbet, it was a party in my mouth…

The waitress was really nice and helpful. (This is incredibly uncommon in LA. She then mentioned she hasn’t been here for very long.)

The only real drawback to Pizza Fusion is the cost. For the GF option, not only do you have to order a large-sized pizza, but they also tack on an extra $5.

In total, the pizza was $26.99, the brownie ala mode was $6.99, and the GF beer was $8.00. At least I have half of the rest of my pizza for lunch tomorrow. More importantly, I have a solution the next time I get a pizza craving.

Right, it has been some time since i last published a blog post, and to be honest I have been putting off writing this one for some time. Seeing that the only worthwhile thing to do at this current time is watch two Irish ‘expletives’ sing on the telly or write my C.V., I’ll think I’ll do a bit of catching up on this old dog. My last blog post revolved around the ridiculousness of the Middle East, and how much ‘man-love’ I have for a certain small Brazilian, slightly off-topic from what this blog is supposed to be about which I’m told is my University Progress. So after a Summer of African Night Workers, Swine Flu, Camels, Roy Keanes’ Family and a very dear friends amazing wedding, We’re back.

The unit that we’re looking at this term is Authorship which to begin with I was rather apprehensive about. I don’t know whether this was because of an apparent lack of knowledge on the subject on my behalf or the mandatory ‘Second Year Wobbles’ but for some reason there was an air of tentativeness about myself. However come the first Thematic and realising “Hey, I’m not as much of a vegetable as I thought I was when it comes to this.” was somewhat comforting and fueled my thirst for this Television lark a bit more. For the first time on this course I’ve found that I’m able to take in all of whats being said, Theories, Ideologies et al, much more easily than before, thus prompting discussions in even the weirdest of places with Mr. Samuel Ardley. I know many agree that Dr. Shaun Kimber has a really good way of delivering his Thematic Lectures, by getting a good balance with generic media-esque jargon with ‘every-man’ terminology provoking thought in even my head, which is as rare as the Northern Lights in Ethiopia. The upshot of all this is that I’m more confident than ever when it comes to writing an essay, but we’ll see how it goes.

PRODUCTIONS…erhum. We’ve recently just finished filming our Another World Documentary strand and it currently lays on a hard disk ready to be edited in a room somewhere in the depths of Weymouth House…all 5 tapes worth, which again I would like to thank my group for providing me with. The film is going to be of a Dolls Hospital/Workshop/Shop based up the road from Bournemouth in Kinson highlighting the processes that are undertaken of producing and Restorating dolls. The place in Question is Ellie’s Doll Workshop run by the lovely Lesley and Mike who were very accommodating to us and our project and it was a privilege working with them. They were also very sympathetic towards my incident last weekend as well god bless them. Now, i’ll be the first one to admit that observational documentary isn’t really my keenest topic, so for this one my group we’re kind enough to allow me the editing responsibilities as I fell that its my strongest practical area thus far. I’m looking forward to editing this strand as last time I was in the edit suite with a group project, the circumstances wern’t overly favourable, but this time everything is looking pretty pleasuregoat. I’ll post the final thing on here.

So Yea, thats about it for the time being. Just want to gabber on about the old Formula 1 once more as I swear I have never done this ever before on here. But Congratulations Jenson Button. Stirling Season. Here’s a video about him and his awesomeness, threading a 200mph needle through the streets of Monaco. Brave.

La nueva serie de Berto Romero y Rafel Barceló se ha estrenado hoy mismo. Sin duda tras ver su primer episodio puedo decir a voz de pronto que va a ser una de las mejores series que circulan por la red y ya no hablo del género zombie que tan solo junto a Simon Pegg y Nick Frost han conseguido mezclarlo con un humor realmente bueno.

Podeis seguir la serie en elterrat.tv, pero yo os adjunto el primer capitulo, a ver para cuando más! XD

Well hello there people of the internet. How do you do? As you can tell this is my first blog post so hey maybe I should say a little about myself. I’m 19, my name is Shaun, I’m a blogger, aspiring photographer, iPhone addict and a self confessed alcohol lover or alcoholic as you usually say.

My life isn’t the best it could be right now but I’m just getting on with things because come September 2010 I shall be in the Royal Air Force and enjoying myself becoming a military photographer. Bored of living the same old life I need a new little bit of something and do the things I’ve always wanted to do. So for me life starts at 20!

I feel I’m procrastinating a lot today… BUT I simply cannot help it when it comes to discovering great designs, great designers and just the mindblowing masterpieces that I cannot click away from it.

This UK jewellery designer who created for big names such as Alexander McQueen creates darkly romantic pieces that crosses over goth/rock with delicate beauty. His latest masterpiece, ‘Queen of the Night’  took 1,600 hours in the making, and paved with at least 4000 stones. (sapphires, diamonds and rubies) Queen of the Night is also set with a rare colour changing pear shaped purple sapphire, which is detachable so it can be worn separately. Not only this, each flowerbuds can be opened and closed individually.

Nu på morgonen var det 3 minusgrader, brr! Det innebär att det snart är vinter. Dags att inventera våra varma kläder, Sigge får som vanligt ta de kläder som Emil hade tidigare. Men det blir nog tvunget att han får lite nytt också, han är nämligen lite kraftigare än vad Emil var i samma ålder så de är inte riktigt i fas när det gäller storlekar. Sigge är nu i storlek 92, en storlek som vi tydligen inte har så mycket varma kläder i. Nu fyller ju Sigge år på fredag så vi får väl köpa lite nytt och ge honom i present.

Alla fyra sov gott i natt, jag hörde inte ett ljud innan Emil kom in i morse, kvart i sju. Sigge och Mika vaknade lagom när vällingen var klar klockan sju och de sörplade i sig den samtidigt som vi tittade på vårat favorit program i SVT, Fåret Shaun.
