I have been on Second life for four years now and I have to thank SL for making me tougher and braver than what I was. When I first came to SL, I was painfully shy, very trusting, very giving and just a pushover. I was afraid to talk to people and I was a doormat for most to step on. I learned to not care what others say about me because these haters are not important in my life. I refuse for anyone to have any power over me especially in a Virtual Game. I don’t care who you are and how high and mighty you think you are….I won’t bow to anyone but I also won’t look down on anyone. I give respect and praise when it is earned. I will confront and fight if you do me wrong. I treat everyone equally. I’m not perfect though I don’t judge.

Shiki’s Somnium-Paradise

I couldn’t help myself when I saw the notice come out from Shiki and the picture of this Somnium dress in the Paradise color design was attached to the notecard.  I fell in love with not only the colors but the cut of the dress itself.

Rather than me try to tell you about this dress and the uniqueness it holds, I am going to copy the information notecard for your own take on how exceptional this item truly is.

Vinn Wong was born Hong Kong and moved to Australia at the age of 7. He realized his love and talent for fine arts in his late teens and went on to study film at Griffith University Film School in Brisbane.

He turned to painting after realizing the medium he studied in university couldn’t fully express his emotions and satisfy his creative desires.

The Somnium dress is the newest release from Shiki and is shown here in Oasis & Insanity.  The cool, colourful print reminds me of tropical seas and warm summer nights, something I dream of often in this land of ice and snow.  My hair is the free colour demo from Red Mint and my skin is the latest group gift from Al Vulo.  My shoes are a new release from Redgrave called Carrie. I have blogged them before and since I love them so much, you’ll be seeing them again!

Episode started off peacefully, if we close an eye on the usual news of people dying. The son of woman from previous episode (Nao Yasumori) suffered a cardiac arrest, and was taken to the government hospital. His father also had the symptoms of the mysterious illness – although he didn’t have that many emotions, he managed to shred some tears while standing over his struggling son. The doctor instructed to take him to the hospital, but took a blood sample first.

Both were announced dead a few days later, bringing the total death count to 19. Quite much for a village with only 1300 residents, so the doctors decided to gather a meeting and discuss the possible cause (why didn’t they do that sooner?). They reached some far-fetched conclusions, but at least they now had some theories.

The priest once again had a meeting with Sunako. This time he met her in the woods, near a temple. He showed the girl around the building and talked about its builder. He learned why Sunako was outside so late. It appears that she has some illness, which prevents her from going out during the day. Excessive UV light is very harmful to her skin, and therefore she enjoys walking around during the night.

Meanwhile, Natsuno is having even more trouble sleeping due to nightmares. The constant feeling of being watched drives him crazy and he falls asleep even on the bus. Now, however, the visions start taking over his wake life too – on the same bus he fell asleep in, he heard his name and for a moment saw a familiar person sitting some seats to the front. It was Megumi. Blinking brought everything back to normal and the girl was gone – but the emotions remained.

Natsuno asked Tohru for a place to sleep again. Of course his friend agreed, and even prepared a bed where Natsuno could stay whenever he wanted. In exchange, he asked whether Natsuno could come as a backup when Tohru asked the nurse (Ritsuko Kunihiro) out for a date. The answer was positive, and both went happily to sleep.

The nightmares remained even in the new place – two shadowy figures appeared in front of Tohru’s house. One slowly walked inside and up the stairs. By this time, Natsuno was totally awake, but unable to move. He could only watch as Megumi walked towards him, and finally reached the door. She opened it and… It was Tohru’s sister, Aoi. She just wanted help while studying for exams. Disappointed that everybody was asleep, she closed the door and left.

Natsuno calmed down and was about to fall back asleep. Suddenly, the familiar voice called out again. Megumi crawled out from under Tohru’s bed, cracking with every bone in her body and smiled at her crush. She stepped towards him and her expressionless eyes regained a shine. She then turned her head angrily towards Tohru, and said he was interfering with her love – Natsuno spent more time with his friend than her. This gave her a reason to get rid of him – she sat next to him, opened her mouth revealing two sharp fangs and bent over the boy’s neck.

As expected, the sotry is about vampires (disregarding the ‘vampire’ tag in the anime desription). If in the first episode or two, there could have been some doubts, the two bite holes on the hand explained everything for me. However, there’s much more to the story than just vampires. The dead were buried after all, so they couldn’t really rise up from their graves. Therefore, these look like zombie-vampires, or even ghost-vampires! They move according to the guidance of Tatsumi, who is probably also a blood-sucking creature, but a superior one.

What is the role of the Kirishiki family? Are they vampires, or are they some kind of perpetrators? That’s the main question I have about the story right now, and the anime looks promising in regards to answering this. If my own theories are correct, their background story would prove to be interesting.

Masao Murasako could have been a good character that had an important and likeable role in the anime. However, his creators decided to make him the opposite. Absolutely everything about Masao annoyed me – his character design, his personality, his voice (no offence to the voice actor, though), his role and thoughts about the events taking place in the village. He himself admitted to trying to be like that! Like a combination of Nina from Code Geass and Ishihara from Rainbow…

Moving away from the rant, the episode seemed quite good. The pace of the story didn’t really pick up, but that’s for the good I guess. Slow introduction of important characters is great here. Who exactly was introduced in this episode?

First and foremost, Natsuno’s best friend in the village – Tohru Mutou. Even he had trouble with Natsumo at first, but after fixing his bike’s tires, the two became closer. Now they seem to hang out together from time to time, and visit each other.

Secondly, as I already mentioned, Masao Murasako and his sister-in-law Chizuko Murasako. The two clearly have a bad relationship, because prior to his brother and Chizuko getting a child, Masao was an extremely spoiled brat. After the birth of their son, Masao promised that he would be very bad and make everybody in the family hate him.

Finally, the Kirishikis: Sunako, Seishirou, Chizuru, and their loyal servant Tatsumi. At first glance they seem like a normal family, with a perhaps too noble attitude for a village in the countryside. They are also the ones who moved into the European-style castle in the first episode. At first glance they might look normal, but what’s with the eyes of Chizuru and Sunako?

They are completely black, or at least without a noticeable trace of the white part of eye (sclera). It would be understandable in the concept of the mysterious anime, but nobody seems to notice. Even the priest of the village, Seishin Murou, made no comments about Sunako’s eyes after having a really intellectual conversation with her. Really confusing part, which hopefully has a reasonable explanation that is brought out further in the anime. Sunako herself is a strange character – as if she knows everything about everybody. That laugh of hers creeped me out, and did the same with Seishin after she commented on his wrist-cutting.

Finally moving on to the story, nothing changed much in the village. Deaths still occur, and Dr Ozaki still has no explanation for the anemia that causes the deaths. With no apparent way of losing blood, there simply is no way to explain everything. At least for now – the doctor finally got ahold of some blood samples of a patient in the peak of the illness. It is the woman from last episode, and even though she passes away soon, Ozaki notices two holes on her hand – assuming these are insect bites.

Meanwhile, Natsumo’s and Tohru’s relationship is explained. In the beginning of the episode, Tohru picks his friend up on a car, after the latter had walked for a long time fue to a bus not coming. Natsumo reveals that he is really sleepy – not due to the strange disease that is spreading around the village, but because he cannot sleep at his home. It’s as if somebody is always watching him. Later on in the episode, he falls asleep at Tohru’s house after pissing off Masao, who hates him (as an outsider of the village).

Tohru lets his friend sleep and goes to buy a drink from a vending machine. His 100-yen coin falls under the machine, outside of his reach. However, at that moment Tatsumi comes and gets it with a back-scratcher. He has a very positive attitude and looks like a very good character on first glance. This feeling is shaken away at the last moment of the episode, when his face is given a very creepy shadow and look.

I wonder how everything will progress from now? Even though I know the result, I still am confused about the roles of the characters. Who will die? When will they die? Who exactly is behind all of this? I suspect that there are plenty of hidden background stories behind the characters which will fill the next 19 (+2 specials?) episodes. Will be looking forward to those and everything else.
