The Veronicas – Popular
Pet Shop Boys – Love etc.

Evidently the above listing makes up 100% of the hits of 2009. I have done the math and I think “0.3% Hits, 99.7% Liquid Browns” is slightly more accurate. Now don’t get me wrong, there are bursts of sweetness on this album in Lisa Mitchell, Kaiser Chiefs and Jamie-T. But don’t piss on me and tell me it’s raining. We all know The Man put those artists on there not for our benefit but to reach the target “alternative” market. You know the ones, they buy the “Vote For Pedro” t-shirts. Who’s the listener out there that’s an avid Ricky Lee fan and is partial to some Jamie-T and Pet Shop Boys? I would love to meet this person, maybe get him/her to pose next to Santa and put that photo in the “Historical Yet Fictional Figures Yearbook”.

But this whole thing is like a game of ‘Spot The Odd One Out’. And I found it: Coldplay. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t they release that La Vida Loca album back when hypercolour tees were all the rage? Yet a track off said album makes an appearance on a 2009 compilation CD. Sounds to me like someone had some space to fill. If it was a choice between ‘Lovers In Japan’ (??) or Bon Jovi’s ‘Wanted Dead Or Alive’, well they picked the wrong track. I would be happy to fiscally support any compilation CD that uses any track off the great Slippery When Wet album.

Oh and good on them for sneaking in that ‘Rock & Roll’ track. I was like “Hmm, don’t know that one. Better YouTube it”. Turns out that’s exactly what they wanted me to do. It’s a song that I’ve heard on the radio on the hour every hour since early this year and had managed to avoid identifying. Until now. So hey, thanks 100% Hits and Ashton Kutcher. I got Punk’d.

You may say “It’s all well and good to identify a bunch of non-existent problems like a whiny-molefaced mole, but what would you do in their situation?” First off, calm down. You’re getting too worked up. Secondly, the solution is simple: I would limit the release of all compilation albums titled ‘100% ANYTHING’ to cassette as surveys show that the only people who still by these things have access to an AKAI boombox. This same study has shown that they may have slight ’tard tendencies as if they have access to the aforementioned boombox, a blank cassette, SA FM and some spare time they could turn on the radio at any given point and recreate their own “100% Hits” almost to a T. All from the comfort of their trailer. See what I did there? Trailer joke. Subtle. Go back for the re-read.

If that idea failed I would then launch a “Name And Shame” campaign similar to the online sexual predator list but no where near as deviant. This would involve the cooperation of major retailers whereby when the purchase of a compilation CD occurs they would get the names and addresses of buyers and post the details online. Then concerned citizens could be alerted to the fact that Steve, the butt-pirate from next door, is an endorser of ear rape.

Kind people of the internet, we do not want these freaks near our kids. We want the children of tomorrow to grow up in a society free from unwarranted compilation CDs. “Are there warranted compilation CDs?” you may ask. Gee I don’t know, does 101 Greatest Beer Songs Of All Time fit into that category? You tell me. At least we know cold, hard, long necked research went into that project.

CAUTION: WATCH ME TAKE OUT TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE
Nickelback are so bad, they make me appreciate the fine art that is Shinedown. And vice versa.
Amazing folks. How did I do that?

GERMAN ROCK/SEX TOYS: German band Rammstein has released a new record this fall. The band is probab

GERMAN ROCK/SEX TOYS:

German band Rammstein has released a new record this fall. The band is probably best known for their 1998 rock hit “Du Hast”, which was a big hit on MTV’s Total Request back in the summer of that year. All the attention this week in the music world has been on American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, after his overly-sexual performance at the American Music Awards. But Rammstein is doing their part in sexin up their songs and videos….and even their fans? For starters, their latest single is called “Pussy”. Check out a somewhat censored version of that below. But the band is not ending it with the record itself, they have released a sex toys package along with it! It sells at 250 American dollars and includes handcuffs and lubricant. Very interesting idea….I’m still rather partial to “Du Hast”….but interesting! Looking at the toys, I’m assuming they’re trying to reach out to females and gays?

————————————————————————————————————————————————-

NICKELBACK VS. SHINEDOWN & BREAKING BENJAMIN:

No, these bands are not in a feud. But they are touring together in early 2010. I know Nickelback and Breaking Benjamin have toured together before with Three Days Grace (Breaking Benjamin canceled a lot of their appearances). But I just don’t think these bands really go together. You know what? I’m just going to say it—I’m not the biggest Nickelback fan. I can understand their appeal: 1.) they’re pretty straight-up rock that can often times cross-over to Top 40 and 2.) they have lyrics like “I like your pants around your feet and songs called “Something in Your Mouth” that appeal to all your fist-pumping rednecks out there. I actually have their record Silver Side Up (it was a gift), and it is really pretty good. The band is not as bad as I think their singles often times make them out to be. When “How You Remind Me” was released back in 2001, I never would have guessed this band would still be around in 2009. They’ve never really seemed like anything that special. However, along with the likes of Linkin Park and Foo Fighters, they’ve been one of the biggest successes in rock this decade.

But, I think Shinedown and Breaking Benjamin are far superior (probably to me, two of the better rock acts in the last several years) and it kind of bothers me to see them opening for a band like Nickelback. The likes of Theory of a Deadman or Saving Abel would be much more appropriate of choices. Shinedown style-wise sort of makes sense in that they have a “straight up rock” sound as well. You may hear Nickelback or Shinedown on a rock radio station that also plays heavy doses of classic rock. Breaking Benjamin on the other hand, goes more with the likes of Chevelle, Three Days Grace, Crossfade, and Korn. Just gonna mainly hear them on hard rock or alternative rock stations.

I know this is a split issue and many agree with me that Nickelback is rather over-rated, while others think they are a really great band of this time and could perhaps care less about the other two. All I know is I’d take “45″ and/or “Breath” over “Photograph” any day.

Transgender Day of Remembrance is coming up this Friday (and we’re also holding a vigil at VCU on Thursday night with Queer Action).

I keep trying to blog, but I’m having trouble finding time lately. I’ve been super busy with registering for classes next semester (not to mention trying to manage with the current ones), dealing with a flat tire, working, and preparing for VCU Drag Ball (which is this Saturday, and which I’m performing in as a Dragstreet Boi…get it), etc.

Though. I would like to share a song I heard on the way home from chemistry this morning. I believe many meanings can be found from the song, but I know I personally think that it’s very appropriate for TDoR.

(Written on the 8th November) So I just got back from Nottingham having spent the last four days there hanging out with a number of friends who go to Nottingham Trent University. How was it you ask? Well, person who asks questions in my head, it was pretty darn good. It’s always good to hang out with good friends you don’t see as much anymore.

Anyhow, the main reason I went up in the first place was to see the band Shinedown play at Rock City. Now I’ll admit, up until last month when I went to Gloucester I’d never even heard of the band. But man have they got a pretty good sound, more than that though. All of there first 10 singles have got into the top 5 of the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, how impressive is that?

So the gig. The first support act were a band from reading called Counterpoint and I’ve got to say I enjoyed their sound. They reminded me of Black Stone Cherry from the USA, but without the accents. I’ve linked you to their myspace and I personally think you should check it out.

Next up you’ve got SOiL, I’ll admit right now I’ve never really listened to anything they’ve done. And what I have heard, I didn’t really rate it. Apart from Halo of course, who doesn’t like that song? So they come out, and to my surprise the crowd starts chanting their name and circle pits open up in every song they play. It was a pretty cool thing to see for a ’support’ band. The set SOiL played has definitely made me think about giving them another shot.

On to the main act of the night then. So Shinedown come out, all wearing white shirts with tiers and sun glasses, a pretty cool look if you ask me, and they play Sound of Madness (my favourite song on their ‘The Sound of Madness’ album). The crowd come alive and sing along in full voice, it was pretty cool to witness. This is how the gig continues, although the band soon lose the shirts and ties. I would liked to have seen a bit more movement from the crowd during their set, maybe not the circle pits like SOiL had but slightly more. The crowd did however make up for this with the continued vocals during all of the songs though, so I guess that kind of makes up for it.

Overall, good gig and I enjoyed it. Maybe not as much as I enjoyed drinking with my buddies after the show however…

Hey Gals and Gouls,

TAT Co is making serious momentum nationwide. We recently were on tour with Zach and got a endorsement from him and Barry Kerch. This was an awesome day for the company, and we got to rock out on stage while getting some upclose photos to share with you. Zach and Barry both wore their new designs from the TAT Co line and Zach even wore the new Tremolo footwear from the TAT Co line.

Barry Kerch of Shinedown in TAT Co

Check out the endorsement and the new footwear. Don’t forget that Christmas is coming up. Put TAT Co on your list for Santa to drop yours off under your Christmas Tree.

Jag bläddrade runt bland olika sidor tidigare idag när jag letade efter videorecensioner till R&C: A crack in time. En av recensionerna inleddes av reklam för Creeds november-album Full Circle och jäklar vilken bra låt som spelades. Jag vet inte vilken låt det var, men den gav mig mersmak, varför jag köpte hem singeln Overcome, för er som inte har råd med 9kr för en låt kan ni lyssna här;

Who I Am.

I guess I should start with the typical introduction. My name is Brian, and I’m a junior at Ashland University in Ashland, OH. I’m majoring in Journalism and Speech Communication with a focus on Public Relations and a minor in Marketing. I graduated from Bellbrook High School in Bellbrook, OH in May of 2007.

I have four major hobbies: Writing, photography, music, and cars (European, in particular).

Writing.

I’ve written a little bit of everything. I dabbled mainly in fiction and poetry through high school. I entered college as a Computer Science and Engineering major, so I stopped doing a lot of writing for a while. I popped out a fictional piece once in a while, but nothing major. I transfered to Ashland University in the spring of 2008, and changed my majors to Journalism and English with the dreams of writing a book.

Well, things went swimmingly with that for a while. I started to get involved with the campus newspaper, The Collegian, writing stories about anything and everything- Concerts reviews to features to mundane things such as explaining the recent database crash our IT department suffered.

Photography

I picked up a camera as early as elementary school. I didn’t know how to use it, but I could take pictures. I got my first digital point-and-click in middle school, and it all took off from there.

Spring of 2008 I bought my first DSLR camera. I mainly used it for landscapes, although I did a lot of low light setting setting pictures for a car club.

Photography remained mostly as a hobby until January 2009, when I got a job taking pictures for the campus newspaper. I got my first experience with concert photography. They’ve had me take pictures of anything from speeches or buildings to concerts of big bands.

2009-1-16, After Edmund

Recently I had the opportunity to shoot my first big band, Jack’s Mannequin.

Jack's Mannequin, 2009-9-25

Music

I love doing concert photography, so obviously I’ve got a strong passion for music. I listen to a little bit of everything. Since I’ve been typing this I’ve listened to My Chemical Romance, The Offspring, Shinedown, From Autumn To Ashes, Avenged Sevenfold, and several others.

I can play a wide variety of musical instruments. I started playing trumpet in 6th grade, french horn in 8th, and have been playing guitar since about third grade. I’m not good or motivated by any means. My acoustic hasn’t left its case since March of 2009.

Why?

So why am I writing this blog? It just seems like the thing to do.

It seems like a good way to get my thoughts and opinions out about current events. It seems like a good place to get a foundation as a journalist and to get my name out. It seems like a good place to start publicising my photography.

Jake logged on to his Facebook… 230 friends. whats sad is that i don’t know more than 4 of them.
He scrolled down the screen and looked at peoples statuses : Melissa had fun with Karen and Momoah at the party. Joel went bungee jumping with Sarah and had mad fun. Sarah had some mad xx’s with Joel today. Shennah’s on my radar! All of them seemed happy.
‘happy happy happy’ he moaned placing his folded arms on the laptop.
Why is this happening to me? is he dead? of course he’s dead.. you shot him.. wait let me be sure.
He tiptoed to the adjacent room, stepping lightly to avoid the blood splashed grotesquely across the carpet, walls.. phones. phone! call the cops.. No i want him to rot! The pain surged through his heart as he walked up to the dead body on the couch.. the couch he had been tortured for too long upon.. too much.. too much pain too much crying.. too much uncontrol.. too many times.. too much!! Anger and pain surged through him as he raised his hands and struck the body no response. He struck again, and again, and again.. relishing the feeling of control and revenge he felt.. tears streaming down his scarred face.
‘I fucking hate you!!!’ he sobbed out as he collapsed next to the body of his father, rolling in the thick brown liquid that spilled from the numerous holes in the lifeless body.

Jake stared at his Facebook screen, blood stains smeared his Mac keypad as he typed purposefully : Starring down the Barrel of a 45.. goodbye fucked up world. He reloaded the page. 12 likes.. 3 comments ‘I love that song!!’ ‘omjay the band is awesome’ ahhh u know the band too. do i know you?’
He typed: @Do i know you? No you do not know me.. i am the shadows.. the one who wakes up each morning with a scar from yesterday. Im the one who would speak but you cannot understand. I would love, but i dont know what that is.. i understand loss, i understand pain, i am pain. I understand beauty, its what im not. I suppose im the one who has no fire.. but bears the ashes of another mans frustration. Im the one who would be loved.. if i had ever existed.. i have never existed. I have only been an outlet for another pain. I would have only been the guy who ended his life, before another ended it for him; but i never had a life.

He shut his eyes and squeezed.. and his computer screen was coated with the color of life……

Double Homicide; that’s what the police said.
Simple suicide; thats what the church said
A story unended; but ended perfectly; i say.
