You know what? When I read Shinshi Doumei Cross, I loved it. For a while. Until the end, when the main girl decides that she can marry both boys and live happily ever after. It pissed me off SO MUCH. I mean, realisticly, THAT CAN NEVER HAPPEN. TOTAL BULLSHIT.

Now, I’m also reading the manga Koko ni Iru Yo!, and it’s the SAME THING. Well, out of the 19 chapters, I’ve read up to the 16th, and I have this inkling that it will just end up like SDC. THAT will definitely piss me off even more.

I mean, Koko ni Iru Yo! has been a really cute manga and I like it, but the main character isn’t the kind that I like. You know, weak and then all of a sudden the hottest guy in school likes her. REALISTIC NOT. But occasionally, I’m a sucker for the fairy tale type stories ;]

*sigh* If Koko ni Iru Yo! ends up with the main character thinking that she can satisfy BOTH both loves, then I am going to seriously freak out.

I can’t believe I never read the extra chapter (picked up vol4 of Full moon at a sale and set off to re-read all of Arina Tanemura’s works).

I MISSED THIS SERIES! I miss all the characters, I miss the fabulous outfits, I miss the drama and fluff, I missed all the kya kya-ness, I missed that smile on my face as I say the sparkly flowers, I even missed the disturbingly huge eyes. But more than anything, I MISSED MAORA! Behold the glory of the greatest trap ever lived.

Damn it, they are the cutest gay couple ever.

Plot-

In return for a business loan of 50 million yen, the prestigious Kamiya family gave their daughter Haine away to the Otomiya family. Haine, now an Otomiya, is appointed to the student council of the exclusive Imperial Academy, a private school for the aristocracy. Even though Haine is of proper lineage to be on the council, she finds herself struggling to find her place among the many secrets of its elite members, especially those of the president who holds her heart–Shizumasa Togu, aka “the Emperor.”

I always had this love hate kind of relationship with Arina Tanemura. My first shoujo series I ever read and loved was her famous Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne manga. And My favourite complete works by her is Time Stranger Kyoko. And yet, I found myself disliking Full Moon wo Sagashite, Shinshi Doumei Cross, and Mistress Fortune. I at first thought this just might be because I simply like her old works better and there’s something about her new style that just turns me off, but then Sakurahime Kaden happened which I absolutely adore, so I figured it must be something else that’s in FMwS, SDC, and MF that I don’t like, but other things in KKJ, TSK, and SHK that I love. 

And then I came upon my realization.

Personally, I think the main reason why I prefer SHK, TSK, and KKJ is because of the fact that they, unlike MT, SDC, and FMwS, have a protagonist that ISN’T all about The Great Romance. (Obviously there are more reasons on why I love these 3 series, but perhaps I’ll discuss this in another post, if anyone actually WANTS to hear my squee-age over them) Observe the following –

Mistress Fortune - The story is basically Kisaki all over her ESP job only because it allows her to be closer to Giniro, object of her affections and spends her days constantly chasing around Giniro in an attempt to get to know him better, get his number, get a date, etc, etc, etc.
Shinshi Doumei Cross - Haine goes to prestigious school for the SOLE purpose of being close to Shizumasa, the Love of Her Life.
Full Moon wo Sagashite - Mitsuki wants to become a singer so she could reunite with the love of her life before she dies. 

… See a pattern here? The Heroine’s focus and motivations behind her actions at the starting point of the story is to be with Her One True Love.

Now, let me point out the difference with SHK, TSK and KKJ

Sakura Hime Kaden - Sakura takes on her powers the night she runs away in an attempt to not get married off when demon attacks her and the basis of the story is, IMO, her attempt to find out what is her fate.
Time Stranger Kyoko - Kyoko wants to be rid of her princess duties and takes up her role as Time Stranger in order to achieve this goal.
Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne - Marron steals paintings by night, to seal away the demons within the paintings as chess pieces.

See how these heroines’ lives and their actions are not all influenced by the Great Romance? Not to say that there isn’t any romance in these series, (Which would be impossible, since this is Arina Tanemura we’re talking about here) but my point is that the premise is NOT about being-with-the-one-they-love-forever-and-ever-and-ever, and there are things important to them beyond the One True Love.

That is not to say that I want Arina Tanemura to get rid of romance in her series (because I lovethe couples in SHK, TSK, and KKJ) nor do I have anything against stories centered on Love and the actions the characters take because of this. I actually like quite a few series like this (ex. Akaku Saku Koe by Midorikawa Yuki, creator of Hotarubi no Mori E and Natsume Yuujinchou and therefore my goddess of everything) I just find that I prefer series by Arina Tanemura that don’t have romance as the centre and focus of the heroine’s lives. When they are, the plot would feel too weak and paper thin (think Shinshi), the romance feels too overblown and in my face (’cause her romances are nothing if not in Epic Proportions, which is fine as long as the PREMISE isn’t based around this love of theirs), and overall, everything just feels too exaggerated and over-the-top and ridiculous and makes me want to choke on the fluff. 

However, I have nothing wrong with her one-shots, which, as far as I remember, are ALL based on love. They’re short so that the angst isn’t dragged out, and you can just enjoy the cute fluff romance that is short and sweet and given in just the perfect amount without making you want to scream in agony. Anything longer than a one-shot that’s romance-centric in her stories make me want to dash my brain against a wall. But when you hold her one-shots next to my great loves by her that’s TSK and KKJ (And hopefully, HOPEFULLY, SHK), they just don’t compare or are even half as memorable.

So yes the TL;DR — Arina Tanemura should stop making her series based on the character chasing after the Love of Their Lives. End of story.

In Imperial Academy, students are classified into ranks. the ranks ranges from Gold, Silver, and Copper. Haine Otomiya, the heroine of the story, ranks as Copper in the Academy. She is inlove with the Koutei (Emperor) Shizumasa Tougu, the only Gold ranked student and heir of the Tougu family.

This 47-chapter shoujo manga was written by Arina Tanemura, same mangaka of the popular Full Moon wo Sagashite. The story revolves around Haine, her family, friends, and lovelife. Expect this manga to provide you with lots of twists every now and then. As the story progresses, same goes to the development of the characters.

The characters were drawn beautifully. From the looks to their clothes, it is all good. There are also times that a certain character will remind you or certainly, looks like the another character.

I guess, the only negative comment I can give to this manga is that it ended so quick. There are things that still need to be disclose or give further attention. All in all, Shinshi Doumei Cross is a must read especially if you like some delinquent story, shounen-ai, shoujo-ai, drama or simply romance..

Eu tento, eu realmente tento, entender porque as pessoas tem tempo de escrever comentários e/ou emails cobrando releases e/ou links quebrados mas não tem tempo para digitar um ‘obrigado’ nos comentários.
Sei que existem alguns que o fazem, e agradecemos muito por isso! ^_^
Nós realmente não precisamos de massagem no ego para continuar o que fazemos, já que trabalhamos por satisfação pessoal, porque amamos os títulos que trabahamos, e porque adoramos a convivência completamente louca dos bastidores do Fanservice. Mas veja bem, nós trabalhamos de graça, abrimos mão de um tempo em que poderiamos estar nos dedicando aos nossos hobbies. Afinal todos somos otakus, poderiamos estar jogando Zelda, trabalhando em nossos cosplays ou lendo aquela perigosa pilha de manga que se equilibra por milagre na mesa de cabeceira… mas estamos aqui, trabalhando para manter esse grupo vivo e ativo, simplesmente porque nós o amamos.

Anyways…

A release de hoje é o sempre tão esperado Shinshi Doumei Cross ^_^ Finalizando o quarto volume com o lançamento desse extra.

Happy V-day to everyone in anime land. I hope you all have fun today whatever your plans are. Also remember those who hate Single Awareness Day with a passion, it only lasts one day. Besides it means that chocolate will be on sale tomorrow as well as flowers and other junk.

This is just a little wrap up for the Shipping Countdown series.

It was fun, but now the shipping countdown is offically over. Writing the posts reminded me that shipping is a huge part of my anime fandom. It’s not the only thing, but it defintely effects how I desire what to read/watch.

The ironic thing is, that orignally I got interested in anime for the comedy and fantasy elements of the series. I didn’t really see anything that would be concerted serious shipping, until I watched Fruits Basket. So in the end it’s really shojo that’s to blame for obcessive shipping. (Although really I was obcessive shipping fan girl before with books. KelxNeal ftw). 

For some fans, shipping is the main reason they watch or read a series. If they feel a series doesn’t have enough of it, they’ll drop it like a hot potato. For other fans, shipping is like a poison that destroys fandoms. I think there’s a happy a medium that exists, which most mature fangirls I’ve seen seem to reach. The fans for whom shipping is the main reason the watch or read a series are usually the ones who start pairing wars.  The series that’s probably the most famous for that now is Shugo Chara.

Thoughts

Wow. Why do I like pairings with shy/cheerful girls winning over stubborn/delinqunt boys (KyoxTohru, NagisaxTomoya, SakuraxSyaoran, SanaxAkito etc.) so much? Also, teasing relationships (KyokoxRen, Amuto, UkxUs). I guess it’s just because I like the idea of love making people act better. *idealist* Teasing relationships are fun to watch, especially when the when, as Amuto proves to us over and over again.Also, couples who have problems that are more interal then external are enjoyable to watch. It’s more realistic and interesting to watch someone overcome their own personal fears and insurctires as they come into a relationship, then to watch unrealistic lovey dovey scenes be torn apart by love triangles or enemies. That’s the reason I never really seriously shipped MiakaxTamahome or UsagixMamoru. Both couples got together to fast, so the only thing that could get in the way of their relationship was other people. They didn’t have any kind of personal struggle to overcome in their relationship. Cuteness is also an overall part of the enjoyment factor. The cuter a couple is generally the more loveable they are. That’s probably a big reason why everyone loves Sakura and Syaoran so much, as well as Nagisa and Tomoya.Also, if they actually have conversations. Couples who’s conversations consist of ‘ “I love you____” “I love you too____” “_____” “_____”‘ are cliche and annoying. It’s more interesting if a couple can talk about their dreams, problems, and just random stuff together. It’s more normal and much more endearing.

All and all it was a fun project to do. I could’ve written essays about some of the pairings/shippings, but it would’ve probably consisted of me saying the same thing over and over again. I would like to do it again next year, but maybe focus on side pairings/shipping or aspects of shipping in general. Thanks to a suggestion on my planning post for the shipping countdown, I’ll probably also write a post for white day.

Mina Murray already scanned a lot of the black/white images (except not the one of Shizumasa/Takanari I think… and she scanned the character sketchs, which I didn’t do), but I had already scanned them when I found out, so I went ahead and uploaded them anyway. There are images of all the cards too! : D And both boxes they came in (yeah, two boxes…it was a little ridiculous…).

Hello minna!! I just found today from the gr on Minitokeyo the extra ch of Shinshi Doumei Cross x3 <333 Just wanted to share it with you, since it has a lots of random scenes XD (you know we love randomness LOL) with out fav couples AND the scene where Takanari proposes to Haine!!!! <333

One thing i found extermely cute is the part os Ushio and Sensei x3 because her “I hate you” = “I love you” kyaaa love this couple x3

The extra ch has total 3 episodes for us to enjoy, including scenes with Haine’s mom and Kazuhito on a cruise! <3 LOL Arina-chi  men are sooo cute XD they all blush so much for us LOL! And of course there is some MaoraxMaguri for the fans =D

+ Shizumaza is also here to ruin and add laughs to the moment x3 and with no more to say enjoy!!!

For people who don’t know, I’m a huge fan of Arina Tanemura. I meant to post this Sunday, sorry about that. I went to Mitsuwa to order the limited edition of vol. 11, so I figured I’d buy the normal edition while I waited for it to come in. Turns out, they had it on a shelf behind the register so of course I bought it! That was right after I made the order too, the guy working there also laughed when I pointed it out. Anyways, let’s review~

Here is the limited edition of vol. 11. <3

Back, on the label it says Mistress Fortune will be out on the 15th of December, and the other one is Sakura Hime Kaden, her new series about to be serialized.

The side obviously. I like the lace. It’s pretty. <3

The contents of the box, volume 11 of the manga and official Shinshi Doumei Cross special playing cards. I love her artwork so much. Specially on the limited edition cover.

Inside the box the cards are kept in a nice case. I almost didn’t want to open it at first, haha.

The cards are gorgeous!  You of seen me when I opened the card box though, I was trying to be so careful. I haven’t taken the wrapper off the cards yet but I really should. XD

Both editions compared next to each other, which cover do you like better? I love both, I’m so happy she put the whole student council on the final volume covers. Everyone was predicting it would be Haine, Takanari, and Shizumasa. I really love the limited edition one though, I love the feeling to it.

Normal edition of course has the regular back, while the limited edition continues the artwork from the front.

I decided to compare the limited editions of volumes 10 and 11. Both are wonderful but the packaging is crappier with vol. 10.

For vol. 10 they decided to use this crappy thin cardboard that was glued together on top and bottom. I was so afraid I would break it when I brought it home from Japan. In the picture you can see how much it sticks out quite a bit. I’m glad they used a nice firm cardboard from vol. 11, it had a nice feel to it.

Here are the backs to them, Haine in that blue dress was very cute. :3

So I hoped you enjoyed my first review, and hopefully it wasn’t crap! I had to type most of it out with one hand since I was on the phone with the other hand, hehe. Currently working on a silly project called “Project figma Christmas”, who knows what could be. =P
