Music Videos can be pretty cliched. A video of a band playing the song, or dancing around with fawning fans or in a bizarre fashion show. But occasionally you come across something interesting or a little bit different and it makes you appreciate the effort of not being contented with a music video being a video of people playing music.

Here are a few creative efforts that I find interesting.

Bat for Lashes – “What’s a Girl to Do?” This eerily haunting song is matched by an equally haunting bike ride. Its a strange video, yet it works. This is one biker gang I would not want to run into at night.

Arcade Fire – “My Body is a Cage” This is a fan made music video syncing scenes from the spaghetti wester “Once Upon a Time in the West” with one of my favorite Arcade Fire songs. The scenes and mood from the movie are matched exquisitely during equally powerful parts of the song. Warning: I watching this video could spoil the movie for you, if you have not seen it yet.

Fionn Regan – “Be Good or Be Gone” To me this video demonstrates that creativity is not opposed to simplicity. The video demonstrates that music does not exist in isolation. It always exists in an environment and that environment shapes the music as much as the music shapes it.

Pato Pooh – “Follow Me” This video demonstrates that an alright song can be vastly improved by a creative music video. This video is a tribute to classic video games and is imbedded with “easter eggs” which any old school video gamer will appreciate.

Shitdisco – “OK’ Instead of simply showing the band play and sing, why not make an interactive pop-up book of the band performing? If this sounds lame to you, check out this creative  video by Shitdisco.

Dashboard Confessional- “Thick as Thieves” Another fan made video, which packs and entire song into a pack of cards using some slight of hand. I like it cause its interesting, creative, low-budget, and shot in one take.

Jarvis Cocker- “Don’t Let Him Waste Your Time” This video is a little more expensive than the previous ones. But the extra money that goes into the video creates a new and creative experience as Jarvis takes his audience on quite the taxi ride.

There have of course been many great moments.. such as interviewing Deadmau5 in Malta, Bonaparte in Berlin.. blagging Elisha (16) into V-Fest to meet her idols and one of my favourites – blagging Lola (70) backstage at Big Chill 2008 to meet Leonard Cohen.. but I can’t fit it all of these in to ten minutes!!! And of course I’ve kept some of the most cringey bits in.. despite my own embarrassment..

Mulle öeldi kunagi, et suur osa bändi lahedusest oleneb tema nimest. Igatahes, Shitdisco nimi on korraga vaimukas, imelik ja selline, mis tõmbab endale ümber internetihäksoreid, kes on parajasti uue muusika otsinguretkedel. Kahjuks suurem osa neist arvatavasti pettub, sest Shitdisco muusika on minu silmis piisavalt veider selleks, et esmakordsed kuulajad kiirelt midagi muud otsiks, mis ikka popmuusikafännidest sõpradele ka meeldib.

Enne tänast arvasin nende muusikast vaid seda, et nad on tõesti sittdisko ning hoolimata sellest, et paar kuud tagasi kuulasin nende albumit mõned korrad, oli mul meeles vaid üks lugu – Reactor Party, mille aeg-ajalt olen ikka pleilistist üles otsinud ja lihtsalt kuulanud, sest lugu on hea. Tegelikult on album Reactor Party-sarnaseid kummitamahakkavaid laule täis. Parimateks radadeks peaksin Dream of Infinity, Fear of the Future, Lover of Others ja muidugi Reactor Party ise ka.

Album ei rahulda tegelikult täielikult mu muusikalisi vajadusi, kuid tegemist on täpselt sellise albumiga, mida kuulata taustaks koduste tegemiste ajal või siis lihtsalt kuskil mingi seltskonnaga, kes naudib mitmekesist muusikat, koos olles.

Ma annan sellele albumile 7 punkti kümnest. Tublid poisid tegelikult.

Goose, un groupe de quatre belges, qui font de l’electro-rock. Leurs sons “normaux” c’est à dire plus rock qu’electro sont super cool, mais je ne vais poster que leurs remix electro. En fait, Goose, leurs remix, c’est juste super bon, saturation + batterie, bref, c’est super violent. Je ne peux m’empêcher de vous dire de télécharger absolument leur remix de Scissor Sisters, “She’s My Man” c’est une tuerie pure et dure, mais leurs autres remixs sont aussi des tueries.

I am seeing The Bloody Beetroots tonight, live at Prince Of Wales. It will be a fun night! Support from Acid Jacks and Ajax, also, so it is a pretty decent bill. Don’t think snarky thoughts about them because whatever else they may be they still make hell-good music and that is all that matters. Hysterical amounts of awful hipster fandom is a side-effect of being good and there is not much that can be done about that. ANWYAY THAT WAS A DIGRESSION. OKAY THEN.

I kept the name as it – believe me – symbolizes the whole scope of tunes we have here: from tenderness to wild pulsions, we have pretty much everything. 

Polaroïds are sweet, and this software is sweet as well. It makes you feel that you know how to shoot good photos, tells you “hey man, remember the good old times when Polaroïd was everywhere, you know, this time when we were innocent and we had fun, because now it’s ridiculously stupid” (HKLR does not approve this last sentence) and sometimes gives good results. Los Van she empezaron su aventura en 2005, son de Sydney (Australia).

Acaban de lanzar su primer trabajo en 2008 titulado “V”, su estilo es mas bien electropopero , ochenteno, pero muy suave, utilizando sintetizadores para dar ese toque electrónico a un tema.

Son de esos grupos que prefieres escuchar cuando estas relajadito y prefieres regocijarte en ello.

Parece ser que los australianos tienen buena mano para la música, ya que vengo descubriendo muchos grupos que son de allí, que no están nada mal.

De segundo plato tenemos a un dúo inglés, que ha llegado a lo más alto nada mas empezar.

Han llegado al numero 1 en la lista británica, en mayo del 2008 con su tema That’s no my name.

Decir de ellos que empezaron por separado en diferentes grupos y tras varios intentos fallidos por separado, se conocieron y decidieron formar los The ting tings. A partir de ahí su popularidad fue creciendo en UK, hasta que convergió en un trabajo serio en 2008, llamado We started nothing.

Su estilo es muy parecido a los Van She aunque son algo más indie.

No digais que no tiene un ritmillos pegadizo, The ting tings, That’s no my name:

Lo siento pero, cuesta encontar videos de calidad y no es porque no los haya si vais a youtube podreis ver infinidad de videos suyos, pero como las discograficas mandan han desactivado la exportacion de videos a blogs como este. Alucino porque estos tios van de disconformes con la industria de la musica, por sendos batacazos, y ahora hacen esto.

Vaya promocion! y es que cuando los grupos son muy conocidos pasa esto….

Estos si que son auténticos new ravers, y es que la historia de estos tipos no puede ser más punk.

Los shitdisco son de escocia y en sus comienzos tocaban gratuitamente en la conocida calle, best prince street más famosa por el nombre de 61.

Los conciertos se celebraban en los sitios más variados como: en la misma calle, en túneles abandonados o en baños de antros, autentica movida new raver.

La cosa acabó mal, fueron expulsados del lugar en verano del 2006, pero ya se habían hecho un nombre y contaban con bastante apoyo de la gente. Eso les llevo a hacer su primer sencillo reactor party, que se agotó de las tiendas como si lo regalaran.

En 2007 lanzaron kingdoom of fear que es su único álbum hasta ahora, cosechando muy buenas criticas.

Para mi no tienen desperdicio ninguno.

This man is going to be a big deal in 2009 if you haven’t heard of him already.  His first LP entitled Away From The Sea, released Feb. 02 2009, has been on heavy rotation in my stereo since I first got a hold of it.  The album just gets better and better with every listen.

His style is a mix of rock, hip-hop, electro, and 80’s pop.  He also throws in the ocasional cut-up bass line to give the songs a more grungy feel.  His aggressive approach gives the high points of the album an epic feel, one where you feel the need to rip a child’s head off.  Please refrain from partaking in any related activities.

He collaborated with many people on the album, to name a few, Chromeo , Vicarious Bliss, and SHITDISCO .  Teaming up with these different artists gave each track its own distinct feel while staying true to Yuksek’s French electro, hip-hop style.  While I’m more than happy with his first album, I’m on the edge of my seat for what is in store for him in the future.  If you’re not standing on your chair pumping your fist by the end of this album, there is something wrong with you. Overall, I give this album 16 scarves out of 20 hipsters.

Étant petite, j’avais acheter le single de If I Ever Feel Better,(ouai, à l’époque on achetait encore des singles), je crois qu’après les Daft Punk et Les Offspring ça a été l’un des premiers groupes; le genre de groupe qui marque un tournant de votre vie. Je les imaginais dans un coin de ma chambre avec leur guitare et leur batterie(ouai, non, à l’époque je connaissais pas le synthé ni la basse, donc il n’y avait pas) jouant sereinement If I Ever Feel Better…comme ça, pour moi.Ça a du être mon premier fantasme musicale.Je pense que c’est grâce à eux que je n’ai pas sombrer comme tous les jeunes dans le “dark” aqme, linkin park ect…Je me suis orientée vers la branche POP Robbie Williams.(ça craint moins déjà…Un peu…mais moins)..J’ai réécouté ce morceau et me suis dis que c’était l’une des plus belle chose qu’il me soit arrivé. J’ai envie d’un nouveau Phoenix. Ils disent eux-même que Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix ressemblera à United….j’en frétille déjà…

Pourquoi les écouter?

1. Les mains étranges sur la pochette de l’album aurait du m’attirer mais m’a bizarrement faire fuir. J’avais écouté Out Of Control, je crois au grand journal(bonjour, l’originalité) mais toujours rien. Et, les top 2008 jaillissant de tous part, j’entrevois un titre récurent. Oui, celui-ci. Je l’écoute et là..LA CLAQUE. Comme un cri partant du cœur. Cette instru sur le refrain relève du génie. Les couplets m’énervait au début mais finalement…ça passe…ça passe même très bien.Merde, ce titre est une bombe!
2. Lykke Li a drôlement la cote en ce moment. On la voit un peu partout, et vu son superbe album ce n’est que bien mérité. Kleerup, groupe électro suédois, projette leur electro en pointillé, leur petite touche, un peu partout, un peu n’importe quand…La voix de Lykke Li glisse dessus, sautillent de part et d’autre. Une mélancolie nous prend….béate, je dirais que ce titre est beau.
3. Ce duo de texans en est déjà à leur troisième album et je ne crois pas avoir déjà vu leur nom quelque part, dans tous les cas cela ne me revient pas. Au début, vous pourriez avoir du mal avec la voix, mais le rythme et la mélodie vous prendra au passage au cas où vous ne vous accrocheriez pas. Sad Sad City est en fait un extrait de leur deuxième album qui date 2006…le dernier en date est sortit l’année dernière…je ne l’ai pas trouvé sensationnel. Pour l’instant, je me cloitre avec Sad Sad City et communie avec jusqu’à m’en lasser…événement à date indéterminé.
4. C’est du GROS n’importe quoi, mais incroyablement stressant, dansant, excitant. On se retrouve à danser sur la table de basse de son salon en imitant Bruce Lee. La structure de ce morceau est complètement primaire et basique mais merde ça fait du bien. I Know Kung…FU!
5. Je ne cacherais pas ma déception. Le deuxieme album des Los Campesinos! ne me chamboule pas vraiment. Peut-être que j’aimais trop le premier, je ne sais pas. Peut-être me faut-il plus de temps, je ne sais pas non plus. Bien sur, c’est la même recette, une grosse flopée de sons de tout les cotés type bonne marrade, tout est joyeux. L’album est bon, après tout on passe un bon moment, manque plus qu’à trouver LA musique qui donne envie. j’espère que We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed est celle qui vous donnera envie d’écouter l’album…mais je ne suis moi-même peu convaincu.
6. C’est toujours avec un léger sourire que l’on accueil Yuksek au platine. Des remix jamais trop lourd, le ton juste. Celui-ci nous fait manifestement bien bouger. En écoutant ce morceau, j’ai juste envie de dire que j’aime l’electro et l’electro me le rend bien. Là encore, vous me retrouverez sur la table  basse de mon salon à danser comme une épileptique.
7. Une reprise très classe, sans bavure. De la belle folk comme on l’aime. Des claquement de doigt, une bass qui vous des frissons(si bass il y a), une piano dévastateur….et une voix sublime. Je sens que ce groupe à de l’avenir, genre Cocoon en plus réveillé. Leur titres sont pas mal du tout, ils ont également fait une reprise de What Katie Did qui n’est franchement pas mauvaise du tout, un peu déroutante au début mais finalement plus qu’agréable. Groupe à suivre.
8. C’est vrai que je me sens un peu obligé de mettre ce titre. Même si je sais que toute la passion que j’avais pour ce groupe s’est envolé. Je ne sais pas pourquoi. Je ne voulais pas me l’avouer mais leur live m’a déçu. Pas qu”ils soient mauvais, loin de là, mais j’avais espéré qu’ils raviveraient la flamme qui m’habitait à chaque fois que j’écoutais Micheal ou Walk Away…mais non. Leur troisieme album à l’air bien différent des précédents mais on aura beau me dire que c’est l’évolution normal des chose mais les Franz Ferdinand electrique et explosif n’existe plus qu’en live. J’avais besoin de guitare électrisante, ils m’ont donné une sur dose de synthé..Je n’arrive pas à dire que je n’aime pas..Mais cela m’est devenu assez fade.J’espère que Tonight me réconciliera avec eux vu les tubes(What You Came For♥…) qu’il comporte MAIS PITIÉ STOP AUX SYNTHES.
9. On avance de plus en plus vite, de plus en plus fort, sans s’arrêter, sans se retourner. Un remix d’un rythme incontournable. Magnifique.
10. Ce titre est tout simplement époustouflant. Les notes de piano tiennent à elles seules tout le morceau, régularisant tous les sons sans papier, de tout part son projeter des faisceau de musique idolâtrant ce piano….c’est très mal dis, mais l’image est là. Juste transcendant.
