Friday at the JewelBox will be a benefit for Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA).  Come help raise funds and listen to some great local bands.  Ian Loves You starts the night off with an acoustic set followed by the humorous lyrics of acoustic band Haf-Sac.  Levator finishes up the evening with a shoegazer performance.  Cover is a $12 donation.

Adolf Plays The Jazz sind eine Hand voll ambitionierter Musiker, die seit ihrem ersten Release für freie Musik stehen und dementsprechend auch ihre neuste Schöpfung wieder unter CC-Lizenz veröffentlicht haben. Das Teil kommt mit 11 postrockigen Tracks und komplettem Artwork, welches von mir stammt und natürlich as ever ebenso frei gehandhabt werden kann wie es beliebt.

Durch Zufall neulich gekauft. Bekomme öfters mal von wem eine Liste mit Platten, die irgendwo noch über sind zugeschickt. Da habe ich mir u.A. eben die letzte Bark Psychosis mit ausgesucht. Kannte das Album schon ein wenig länger, aber nie wirklich dem großes Interesse beigemessen. Eigentlich verstehe ich nicht wieso. Zumindest hatte ich Bark Psychosis noch in guter Erinnerung. Habe die auf gut Glück gekauft. Was soll ich sagen. Überragend. Und wohl auch ein gesuchtes Sammlerstück.

Musikalisch würde ich das in Richtung Shoegazer, Psychedelic Rock mit  Post-Rock Einflüssen stecken. Psychedelic Rock eben deswegen, weil doch oft sehr unerwartete Dinge in der Musik vor sich gehen. Es wurden auch viele bekannte Elemente aus dem Psychedelic Rock Fundus benutzt. Die Musik ist zudem sehr mit Effekten geschwängert, der Gitarrist schaut sicher zu >90% auf seine Tretmienen. An anderen Stellen wird behauptet, dass die Platte hier und da Jazzig klingen würde. Kann sein, würde ich aber nicht so Kategorisieren.

Und wie klingt es? Sehr sehr atmosphärisch und unkonventionell. Ich bin froh, dass ich die Platte besitze. Sicher ein Highlight in meiner Sammlung.

I found an old brit pop mix I made when I was still Djing at The Church @ Groove Jet (1995-96?). I’ll post it up in a few weeks. Listening to it was a complete jump into a TARDIS. It took me back nearly 15 years. Pre-Hipster Miami. The peak of the Alternative/Goth/Industrial/Rave days. It certainly took me back to my Fishboy days when I started DJing because nobody in this town was playing what I wanted to hear …and brit pop was certainly helping my sex life more than the experimental/ambient music I was spinning at raves.

Either way, nostalgia got the best of me and I went on a music video safari…
