SHOPJEEN is an online one-stop shop for accessories, from jewelry to iPhone cases to collars, sunglasses, and more. It was started not too long ago by a lovely GWU grad named Erin (who I had the pleasure of meeting today) and recently moved from DC to right here in NYC.

All of their merchandise is available online of course, but starting today SHOPJEEN is having a sample sale in their new adorable NYC showroom, and I strongly recommend stopping by! Located in the garment district (2 blocks from my internship, how convenient!), the SHOPJEEN showroom usually takes appointments, but today (Monday) through Saturday, they’re opening their doors to the public for an 11 am – 7 pm sample sale. And if you didn’t have enough reason to check it out already, the sale is supplemented by free Baked by Melissa cupcakes (my fav fav favorite) and champagne!

I was planning on stopping by tomorrow, but one of the SHOPJEEN girls handed me a flier on the street today advertising the sample sale, and I thought it was fate, and headed over directly after work today.

I made two purchases – Rocks Paper Metal teardrop studs that I’ve been eyeing on their website for like, a month, and adorable retro Teal Sorbet sunnies! Check them out below

Just saw Sleigh Bells live the other night at the Slowdown in Omaha. I left the show feeling like a bad ass just for seeing it. As people shuffled about in the post-concert mess, drunkenly dancing to Cyndi Lauper, I spotted one of the crew scouring the floor. I inquired as to what she was searching for, and she told me that Alexis, the lead singer, had lost one of her massive hoop earrings. I asked what it looked like – basically a big hoop with spikes – and began searching as well. My guess is she lost it while crowd surfing. We didn’t find it. I’m sure some fan picked it up as a souvenir. Anyway, point is she was wearing spiked hoops just like a rock star should. To make a long story short: I totally dig her style.

Here are some of the things that summoned my inner bad ass that I think she could ROCK:

At the shoot I worked alongside another photographer Ali who attends American University. I shot on my white screen indoors while Ali shot outside behind the apartment complex.

We worked with three models, Elayna Lopez a dancer from the DMV who now lives in NYC. She’s quite popular in the NY street wear scene and does a lot of modeling up there. I also worked with ASI’s own Mikayla, and Chasidy, a George Washington University student who has been working with Shop Jeen since the beginning.

Erin, a New Yorker with natural disposition for business hopes to open up a retail location for Shop Jeen later this year but for now is focused on building an online presence and attracting new customers.

As spring is on the cusp of, well springing on us I’ve been looking for some new accessories as well as clothes.

More so accessories though, recently I decided I needed a new everyday necklace, a new iPhone case, and anything else that I deem necessary.

Part of the reason I’ve been online window shopping so much is because I’ve recently come across some really great online stores

1) Shop Jeen, Shop Jeen is an online store run by Erin Yogasundram, a GW student. This site is awesome and has everything from iPhone cases to rings to collars to purses. The site is really comprehensive and operates from a range of $12-300.

2) Paper & Chain is an online store created by two friends Naomi & Ismay. All of their jewerly is handcrafted. They are currently on their third collection. Their work is simple and elegant with metal finishes. *The site is currency is euros but I think their pieces might be worth that trip across the pond. (In the pictures listed below I’ve converted the prices)

3) Minoux is an online shop run out of a barn in Portland, Oregon. The pieces are a perfect cross between the vibrancy of Shop Jeen & the simplicity of Paper & Chain. Another thing I like about Minoux is they are environmentally conscious, twice a year they hold an event where you can give them your silver to recycle in exchange for store credit. They also have a 100% warranty that will replace any piece that breaks under excessive wear.

I found out about this as I was in the middle of heavily researching DC area retail properties.  What could be more motivating?

The past month involved the launch of the store, a sorority trunk show at GW, the shooting of the first lookbook the Deck the Halls Pop Up Shop in NYC and the receiving of tons of new products for the store.  Check out pictures below and follow me on instagram (@shopjeen)!
