28-05-2009 C. de Madrid  Madrid en Corto 2008 acumuló 683 selecciones en festivales de 39 países, en los que obtuvo 228 premios 27,may,09.- La Comunidad de Madrid presentó hoy los ocho cortometrajes seleccionados para la nueva edición de Madrid en Corto. Éste es un programa dependiente de la Vicepresidencia, Consejería de Cultura y Deporte y Portavocía del Gobierno, para la difusión, promoción y exhibición del cortometraje madrileño en festivales, muestras y eventos cinematográficos nacionales e internacionales. Así lo explicó durante la presentación el director general de Promoción Cultural, Amado Giménez, quien estuvo acompañado por la asesora de Cine de la Comunidad de Madrid, así como por representantes de las cintas. Las ocho producciones que forman parte de Madrid en Corto 2009 son: Di me que yo, de Mateo Gil; Doppelgänger, de Óscar de Julián; La Tama, de Martín Costa; Metrópolis Ferry, de Juan Gautier; Parking, de Jorge Molina Cuquerella; The End, de Eduardo Chapero-Jackson; Tu (a)mor, de Fernando Franco, y Una vida mejor, de Luis Fernández Reneo. Estos ocho trabajos fueron seleccionados en el marco de la XI Semana del Cortometraje de la Comunidad de Madrid, el pasado mes de marzo, entre los 46 cortometrajes subvencionados en 2008 por el Gobierno regional. El jurado estuvo compuesto por un elenco de importantes profesionales del sector cinematográfico: Sydney Borjas (distribuidor y gerente del Instituto Buñuel), Gregorio Belinchón (periodista y creador de Teaserland), Raquel Arguedas (Departamento de Audiovisuales MNCARS), Natascha Molina (Semana de Cine Experimental de Madrid) y Alain Lefebvre (Escuela de Cinematografía de la Comunidad de Madrid). Madrid en Corto 2009 acaba de llevar a cabo su primera acción, el pasado 17 de mayo, con la proyección de sus ocho cintas en el Short Film Corner de Cannes, la parte del Mercado Internacional del certamen dedicada al cine en formato corto. Más de 200 premios para la selección de 2008 Madrid en Corto contempla una serie de acciones dirigidas a la difusión y el apoyo a estos cortometrajes, como la edición de un DVD de los cortos en inglés y francés, la documentación en soporte digital, el subtitulado al inglés de una copia de cine en 35 milímetros para las proyecciones internacionales del programa y la distribución e inscripción de los cortometrajes en diferentes festivales y eventos cinematográficos del mundo. Gracias al programa Madrid en Corto, que cumple este año su quinto aniversario, los cortometrajes madrileños están participando en eventos cinematográficos de todo el mundo: desde India, Corea del Sur y Kenya, a Estados Unidos y Canadá, pasando por Alemania, Francia, Irlanda, Rusia, Italia, Polonia, Chile, Venezuela, Brasil, México, Argentina, Portugal, Suecia, Reino Unido o Noruega, entre otros países. Así, tras un año de difusión, a través del programa Madrid en Corto 2008, el balance obtenido por los ocho cortometrajes que lo formaban alcanza las 683 selecciones en festivales (de 39 países), donde los trabajos madrileños obtuvieron 228 premios (158 en festivales internacionales), además de importantes nominaciones, como las cuatro a los premios Goya (Hárraga, de Eva Patricia Fernández y Mario de la Torre, y La clase, de Beatriz M. Sanchis, a Mejor Cortometraje Documental; y Paseo, de Arturo Ruiz Serrano, y Porque hay cosas que nunca se olvidan, de Lucas Figueroa, a Mejor Cortometraje de Ficción) que avalan la gran calidad de las cintas madrileñas

A margine del grande evento celebratosi sulla Croisette, il concorso per cortometraggi Short Film Corner rappresenta l’opportunità per molti giovani artisti del video di far conoscere ad una platea vasta e cosmopolita il loro lavoro.

Tutto fuorchè acerbi, i mini-titoli proposti: concentrati in tempi variabili fra i quattro-cinque minuti ed il quarto d’ora o poco più, ma densissimi e richi di soluzioni stilistiche e drammaturgiche interessanti (per non dire entusiasmanti…).

Eccovi il vincitore: Sebastian’s Voodoo è una brevissima animazione in computergrafica che vi farà letteralmente venire le palpitazioni: girata dal giovanissimo (26 anni appena) Joaquin Baldwin, paraguaiano di nascita e statunitense di adozione, l’opera è stata premiata attraverso il voto di una giuria popolare in rete.

Azione, suspance, tensione morale: questi gli ingredienti di un piccolo grande capolavoro: vedere per credere!

Sadly, Matt and I leave Cannes tomorrow. Last night, the Short Film Corner (where we were able to enter in our movies during the festival) held a really awesome party along the beach. There were DJs, free drinks, and a bunch of great areas to sit and enjoy all of it.

Also, on a completely random note, pasta and pizza are big here in Cannes because, I’m guessing, it’s so close to the Italian border. So I ordered pasta carbonara at some restaurant the other day. Now, I knew that this pasta was cream-based and had egg in it, but I received it this way:

Since it’s RAW EGG, I assumed it was decoration and not for eating, so I put it to the side. The pasta was good, aside from the egg, and luckily Vincenzo, an Italian in our group, assured me later that this is NOT how they would serve it in Italy. He actually called it “blasphemous,” but that may be an exaggeration?

Aamu Filmcompany is present in Cannes filmfestival with their next features in production.

Auli Mantila’s new film Gold Diggers has received a lot of interest from international distributors, producer Ulla Simonen is at festival between 15.-18.5.

Jussi Rantamäki and Juho Kuosmanen are going to Cannes on from 19th to 21th to pitch their upcoming feature film Go with the Terrain. We will meet other directors and producers in a meeting arranged by the Producers Network. Kuosmanen’s short film Citizens is also shown in Short Film Corner.

Real Ideas Studio will screen this doc, along with the others, at the Cannes Short Film Corner.

The Corner works like the market at some festivals — the films are no in competition nor were they picked by a committee. This is where people get competion funds, sell foreign rights, make deals, etc.

Luke & The Void has been accepted by a film festival which is fantastic news and a great relief to know that it will have an audience. The festival is Little Big Shots in Australia. It is a touring festival starting in June/July time and as far as I can tell it continues into early 2010. I’m looking forward to any feedback about the screenings.

As for other festivals, I’m still waiting to hear back. I’ve entered it into the Short Film Corner in Cannes, which I think means that it will definitely appear there as long as I get the preview DVD to them on time. So now I’ve just got to find accommodation and the money to get there!

Avoiding Christian Bale is having it’s first test screening this weekend, so we’ll be able to guage what we’ve got. It’s very strange not knowing whether people will engage in a story that you yourself have invested a lot of thought into. At the moment there are quite a lot of things I would still change, but these are mainly style and tone issues.  At the moment, I think the test screening results will be surprising in regards to what does and doesn’t work story wise. I’m looking forward to it and I’m (unusually) not nervous about it (probably because things are going to be changed after). Will obviously let you know how things went, when all the results are collated.

I’ve also started work on some new scripts. One feature and a couple of shorts. Will keep you updated with those as they progress.

So France was a success, and not only that but It was such an amazing experience. The red carpet walks, spying on stars, meeting new people and making new friends were just part of the adventure. The documentary was a success and failure on different levels, which I wont go into much here…you can see what I did at reelideasstudio.com  and youtube.com/shortfilmcorner and CNN is doing a spot on our work as well, not sure about when that will be aired though. I will miss Cannes and the people I met there, however the good news is that I plan on being back next year!

To London! First off, don’t ever use the company I used to book railpass tickets…they wont work when you try and board the train. I had to spend an extra 231 euros to get to London from Paris. Horrible. I finally arrived and I am staying at the Clink Hostel by Kings Cross. Its fantastic. The staff is friendly, and so are the guests. The rooms are very clean and so are the bathrooms and kitchen. The hostel is a renovated courthouse which was where the band The Clash were on trial back in the day.

Something about Londoners: They don’t know their city at all. They don’t know their street names or where shops are or anything. You are better off carrying a guidebook and a map and walking into another hotel if you have no idea where you are going…and thank God for google maps!

After tonight, Im staying with a friend that I met in Cannes, and I will try and update more regularly, I have just been to tired to post and when I want to there is no internet to be found.

“Historia de un letrero” el cortometraje ganador del Special Cannes 2008 otorgado en el marco del Short Film Corner y su creador Alfonso Álvarez estaran en boca de todos durante los proximos dias, y es que no es para menos, Alfonso no recibio ningun apoyo en su país sobre todo en el medio cinematografico donde todo se maneja mediante mafias, ni siquiera estudio cine, ya que fue rechazado de cuanta escuela de cine hay en nuestro pais, pero aun asi se aventuro a realizar este magnifico corto con apoyos exclusivos de su familia y amigos, ahora si ya triunfador todos querran subirse al barco, pero el creditos es solo de el, y por las dificultades merece un doble reconocimiento, su corto ganador de entre casi dos mil cortos, es bastante hermoso en muchos aspectos, veanlo, y ademas para los diseñadores, podremos ver la importancia de las palabras cuando transmitimos un mensaje:
