Bonjour, j’ai eu beaucoup de retours sur mon film “Flux” et je voulais expliquer quelques petites choses.

“Flux” est un film de commande, j’appelle ça un “court métrage communicant”.
C’est YN productions, Gérard Pélisson qui est venu me chercher pour réaliser ce film. Au début ce devait être un simple film de communication institutionnelle. J’ai proposé au Sytral qui est l’organisme qui gère les TCL (Transports en Commun Lyonnais) un tout autre film. Je suis tombé sur un service de communication et un président intelligent qui ont validé mon idée basée sur le fait de raconter une histoire, une sorte de mini film choral focalisé sur les usagers et non sur les infrastructures techniques. Je dois les remercier et remercier aussi mon producteur qui ont su me faire confiance et me donner carte blanche.

Le choix de tourner léger c’est imposé par des problématiques de logistique, pour réduire les temps de trajets, nous avons
monté une équipe qui ne se déplaçait qu’avec les transports en commun. Régie minimum embarquée dans un sac à dos, pied ultra légers type “GorillaPod” pour se fixer sur les rambardes et les poignées dans les métros. Maquilleuse équipée d’une simple trousse de maquillage et qui faisait aussi la comédienne, tout le monde (sauf moi) faisait partie du film et des figurants. Tourner avec le GH1 m’a aussi permis de faire des économies non négligeable et j’ai pu ainsi avoir tous mes figurants / comédiens et disposer du temps necessaire pour faire mon film. Au final les plans Hélicoptère ne sont pas indispensables au film mais j’ai aimé les faire pour le 2eme film car le Stytral m’a commandé une version institutionnelle quand même qui présente le réseau TCL et ses évolutions futures.

Really great short movie by the director Marcin Pazera. For all those who love grunge textures, industrial metal, heavy machinery, vaults and overall post-apocalyptic feel from the Fallout games (1 and 2 off course) this is something you’ll drool on

This is surely one of the best commercials I’ve ever seen. Functions like a standalone short movie if you ask me. Really great use of After Effects

I just stumbled upon this guy’s work, it’s amazing! Maybe you know his short animations, as his videos were in the Times’ top 10 viral movies of 2008 and also has had awards at animation festivals and a mention at Sundance.

PES is actually a New York based animator and director named Adam Pesapane, but everybody knows him as PES. His work was used in advertising too by companies such as Bacardi or Orange (remember that cute socks commercial?)

Easily my favourite out of the seven shorts featured over the last week, what is it they say? Save the best till last! Burn-E is a short that was released with the DVD version of Wall-E and interlinks with scenes from the actual film. Any fan of Wall-E, or rather animation or any of the Pixar shorts featured this week will love this.

The man that needs no introduction; Presto.

It may be apparent from the name, that this short was released with Ratatouille. Being roughly 10 minute long, and not of the best quality, it’s perfectly understandable if you prefer not to watch this short, but it’s rather humorous and you may even learn a thing or two. Remy and Emile tell their tale of how they came to be.

Day 4 of Pixar week, features lifted. Which was ideally released with ‘Ratatouille‘, the film also features a star from Ratatouille, we all know him as Linguini (however in this short, he is known as Ernie). If you like animation, aliens, or films about rats and Italians, then this is for you.

This is Boundin’ a Pixar short which was released with ‘The Incredibles‘ back in 2003. This short but heart-warming Pixar original set in the wild west, features a musical tale of a dancing sheep, and a jackalope. It’s quite cheerful, I assure you. This four and a half minute short was actually nominated for an Oscar, depicts a sheep getting sheared and in turn losing his ability to dance due to the fact he becomes overly-shy. The jackalope kindly helps out. (Note: If the video states ‘an error has occured’ merely refresh the page until it works, or click on the video to be taken to youtube to watch it)

Over the next seven days, I will be looking into the shorts of Pixar’s past. Pixar have no doubt been one of the most successful animated companies in the last decade or two along Dreamworks, and they use these ’shorts’ as a sort of.. initiation. Pixar are always keen to find new talent and styles lurking within the depths of the company, workers who are assigned on projects but not necessarily to a full scale. Call it a trial period if you will.

Now over the years, there has been a list of 18 individual shorts varying from 1984, to today, I will be covering the last seven of these shorts which include scenes from; Up, Ratatouille, WALL-E, the Incredibles and a few Pixar originals never before seen. I’ll also notably be starting in chronological order with the shorts, so the oldest first I’m afraid.
