J’ai vu cette animation sur l’excellent blog “Digital Think” au gré de mes ballades sur le net, ce fut une belle surprise, non seulement parce que j’ai découvert un blog d’excellence mais aussi pour la qualité de cette animation digne des studios Pixar et comme il le dit si bien “c’est du lourd” à vous de voir, moi j’ai adoré. Je vous laisse donc en très bonne compagnie pour le week-end et vous invite à visiter cet excellent blog. Ici le site de Chris Jones le créateur, j’entends le site du making off et autres infos (univers un peu medievilesque pour les connaisseurs ou Tim Burton) Pour le reste, je vous revoie donc chez Digital Think, ce blog est excellent et les superlatifs ne sont pas de trop.

Avant de commencer le week-end, une très belle animation, ou plutôt un court-métrage, devrais-je dire, les aventures humoristiques et palpitantes d’un petit, mais alors tout petit ninja, soyez remerciés pour vos commentaires, passez un très bon week end et moi je vais me reposer un peu, ne regardez pas trop votre PC

Nichts ist perfekt. Für alle, die nicht darauf gekommen sind, das perfeito Portugiesisch ist und auf Deutsch perfekt oder vollkommen heißt, habe ich es mal übersetzt. Ich bin der Meinung, dass dies ein wundervoller Kurzfilm ist und möchte ihn euch aus diesem Grund zeigen.
Der Film stammt von Mauricio Bartok, dessen Blog und Sketchbook auch im weltweiten Netz zu finden sind.

I spent over 100 hours editing, audio sweetening, and effects on Detective A, a 10 minute short movie written and directed by Victor A. Nieto, and the hard work paid off — We won, or I should say I won, the Best Technical Achievement award — some think that the award went to the entire group but honestly what did they do to achieve a TECHNICAL award?  Camera?  Acting? Lighting?   I laugh.  In fact once the award was received by Victor, both he and Eric Shackleford, pointed to me as Victor said, and I quote, “This really goes to Gerry our Editor and technical guru.”

Now after spending many more hours creating an extended 16 minute version, I added (winner) under my name in the credits and created an EDITOR’S CUT DVD — Mr. Director was not pleased.  “I can’t show to to my family as my film.”  “I can’t give this to graduate schools as my film.”  “Have you ever heard of an Editor’s cut?” “The award went to the whole production not just you.”

So I fixed his wagon.  I took off the 5 trailers that I made without his input and I took off the longer version that I made without his input as well; hence the name EDITOR’S CUT.  It’s NOT his movie… Well… In a sense I took the original and retooled it, moved things around, added more footage to the scenes, did more effects, wrote extra music, and so forth.  So it is MY version, MY story plot, and MY EDITOR’S CUT from his original movie, which makes it NOT his film to take credit for — he can have the 10 minute original version which he and I both worked on for 12 hours and then I took it home and spent 50 hours more working on it

Anyway, barring the immaturity of the individual who reminds me of someone who used to be family by marriage and his arrogant egotistical, all for him attitude, the whole experience was worth it and fun.

So much so, that I wrote another story called Chardonnay with the cast and crew in mind — well, some of them anyway.

Motion pictures are powerful mediums and communicate stronger than writing or speech in many situations. In today’s society, educated people are used to learning to read, write and speak at advanced levels. Basic skills are no longer adequate. Professionals have to be able to communicate, persuade, convince, inform and fulfill many other functions on a daily basis. The task of communication is not straightforward and simple as person-to-person communication once was. Communicating is a hard job and takes a good deal of knowledge and effort. Even the best communicators will find the common mediums weak for their purposes. Today’s professional has to be able to understand and make a short movie even if an outside firm is hired for the job. Short is no longer the domain of fiction nor artistic individuals. Short has a strong place in business and even personal life and will be more indispensable in the future. Today’s world demands the ability to communicate using this medium. A typical college education should teach professionals how to make effective and strong short movies to communicate as they are taught to read, write, speak and even use computers.

Short movies are made everyday by students in film schools and even high schools. A short is a motion picture of a few minutes to thirty minutes long. Short as a style of film has been around since the turn of the last century and will be around. The biggest change or improvement has been the adoption of video. Traditionally, shorts are made on 8mm or 16mm stock though some 35mm is used. Video has improved in quality greatly and is competitive with film. A short filmmaker can easily acquire the equipment for videography and postproduction. The short can be shot as a video and postproduction can be done on a computer. The final result can be as sophisticated as the more expensive version using film.

A short needs a script as most movies do. The story of the short can come from any source. The characters are created and the idea of the short is developed. Dialogue is an important part of the script for a short. A short filmmaker needs what a larger budget or longer format motion picture does but can improvise and simplify for the sake of the budget and the time. The actors can be professionals but non-union (non-SAG members) will cost less in the long run. If SAG actors are used and the short is successful, it will be sold for a few thousand dollars and the filmmaker will probably end up owing money to the actors. It is not a bad idea to find non-union actors who will work for free. The short requires a bona fide crew but some positions can be merged and carried on by the same qualified person. Preparation for the shooting is very important and the filmmaker needs to know many rules of thumb or will have unexpected problems at every turn. Postproduction is important and has to be done professionally. A good place for recognition of artistic shorts has been festivals. A business short will easily find a spot on the Internet.

Most educated people have had extensive training in writing and public speaking regardless of their fields. A short is another medium that is powerful and final in achieving its objective. Internet has made it possible to use video as a common means of communication. A movie is a combination of several mediums and can transmit a message far better than one alone. A movie may be expensive and difficult to make but a short movie can be made, at lower cost and less time but with the same effectiveness as a longer moving picture. This is the strength of a short for business and personal communication. As long as the communicator is able to put together a strong short, he or she can communicate very effectively. This can be done professionally or by the communicator. The video equipment are not expensive and are ubiquitous. The only task left is for the communicator to master the basics of making a short video.

I went her exhibition which was between September 9-October 11 in Yapıkredi Kazım Taşkent Art Gallery in İstiklal Street, totally by chance and it was just perfect. There were 5 short movies (Festive Dream, The Train, Marmot, March, L’intermittence du Coeur )and a photo exhibiton ( Cactus Seller)of her which were all about pure daily details. I was impressed how she can capture such ordinary moments that well. I hope you can find a chance to follow her works in somewhere sometime.

Chernysheva’nın 9 Eylül-11 Ekim arasında İstiklal Caddesi’nde olan Yapıkredi Kazım Taşkent Sanat Gallerisi’ndeki sergisi tamamen şans eseri gittim ve kesinlikle muhteşemdi. Sergide, insan hayatındaki abartısız günlük detayları konu alan 5 kısa film ( Şenlikli Rüya, Tren, Marmot, Marş, L’intermittence du Coeur)ve bir fotoğraf serisi ( Kaktüs Satıcısı)vardı. Böylesine sıradan anları bu kadar güzel işleyebilmesinde çok etkilendim. Umarım bir zaman bir yerde işlerini görme fırsatı bulursunuz.

I went to this exhibition for the drawings, and i stayed for the short movies!

Specially the one called “The Grandmother” (1970).
It’s amazing!

All those details : shiny and mat blacks, powdered whites, white graphic details on black doors, strange touches of colours, this strange tree…everything is very plastique and rich to watch.

Save your Freedom

The following short film shows how the German government is expanding its surveillance methods over the population.The dimensions the whole subject has assumed so far is at least scary! Welcome to the German ‘1984′. Germany HAS BECOME a Big Brother State! The right-wing government has been increasing step by step the collection of information about the German population: all internet communication is registered, information about (mobile) phone calls is stored, biometric data are now stored centrally by the state, surveillance cameras are being installed step by step in German towns, etc etc…. Each German citizen is now a potential terrorist, a potential pedophile, a potential corrupt, a potential Che Guevara, and so on….

But where is the problem about this? Ultimately, you just have to be a good consumer and the whole thing is not that bad… Isn’t?

What is happening in German is happening in whole of Europe, in some countries more intense than in other, in some more obviously than in others. But this reality has to change! It is about our freedom to think, to move, to act, to decide, etc… It is about DEMOCRACY!

Well, just watch the movie! I think it is quite well done!

Note: The film is spoken in German, but the authors are working on an English version which should be coming out soon.I will update it here when the time has come.
