The nominees are as follows:

Emma Hill for Mulberry, Katie Hillier, and Nicholas Kirkwood nominated for the Accessory Designer.

Holly Fulton, Camilla Stovgaard, Jessica McCormack, and Maria Francesca Pepe are nominated for the Emerging Talent Award for Accessories.

Models Georgia May Jagger, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Daisy Lowe are nominated for Model of the Year.

I’m quite excited to hear about this, especially the emerging designers category as they were on my blog as ones-to-watch. My fingers are crossed for Meadham Kirchhoff, they’re in the top three of my favorite designers.

With the exception of Ms. Jagger – whom I love – I’m not crazy about the model selection. I wish they would have considered Jourdan Dunn but she’s probably on her way out of the business considering she’s pregnant.

I believe Mulberry deserves this. They pulled off a coup with their Apple collaboration.

I wonder how Holly feels about the accessories mention. While she got her break as accessories designer for Lanvin, she’s working really hard to build a womenswear atelier.

Well, with all that said, fingers crossed!

These are my top 5 programs that will bring out the inner geek in you and your Apple Mac.

• Geekbench
Geekbench is a benchmarking tool, as the name suggests. It’s free and can be downloaded onto most current Macs. Close all applications and it’ll measure the power. Then compete with a friend!

• Google Earth
OK – this might seem really, really obvious, but it isn’t. You see, on its own, Earth is a great tool for everyone, but under the Tools menu there is a realistic flight simulator game. It requires great skill and precision!

• Grapher
A graph drawing program simply built in to OS X. It’s under Utilities. Most people have never heard of it (but you had).

• Lockdown
A freebie (you can see where I’m going here) that locks down a Mac and whenever someone does anything to it, it sounds an alarm which is immutable, flashes the screen, emails a photo of the intruder and requires the correct paired Apple Remote to unlock. Applies to USB, keyboard, mouse, laptop power leads, FireWire, WiFi, whatever… And customisable too.

• Deeper
Use this utility to change many, many hidden settings on a Mac. You might want to modify the login screen’s information, change window minimisation behaviour, or a whole host of other things.

Enjoy! All are free – to the best of my knowledge – and all can be found on Sourceforge or via Google, if your Mac doesn’t have them already…

The first picture, Fuel Girls, a booze-up (as we used to call it) puts me off going to Britain for my holidays. Maybe it’s technically good and very “street” but it’s also gross!

#2 – Just a Shower is wonderfully humourous, but there are rain spots on the lens. Surely that’s a no-no? Or does that make it “authentic” in the eyes of the judges?

#5 – Food Lovers – a mosaic of people eating is gross too. But that was probably the photographer’s intent.

#9 – Pier caught my eye but I don’t like the way the lamp hides one of the divers’ feet.

#16 – Cool Britannia looks over-sharpened – or the man has a skin disease.

#21 – Wayne is good black and white “street” albeit not candid. I wonder if it was shot with a Leica.

#26 – Frozen Intensity is excellent “street”. The police officer’s fixed, almost robotic, expression is scary. I would not have dared get that close in to a demonstration.

#27 – Rain. I cannot believe this is a shortlisted picture. There must be a million rain splattered pictures of a grey London from the London Eye on Flickr alone. What is special about this one?

#32 – A Day at the Beach must be posed or the rain was added in Photoshop, surely? It’s a cliche anyway.

#33 – A Kiss in Time is boring street. Not enough contrast and more focus on the station departure board than the lovers.

Overall I thought they were a bit depressing. I bet entries from the USA would be a lot more positive.

The winners will be announced in early December 2009 and they’ll be exhibited at The Mall Galleries, London from the 9th to the 13th of December. I think I’ll skip it.

El lema de Shortlist es elocuente: “For men with more than one thing on their minds”.

I agree with this man. Let me explain…

Really enjoyed the Jack Dee interview in the current issue of Shortlist, and this quote towards the end in particular: “Technology needs to slow down. In fact, no more inventions for a bit, by anyone… Stop bombarding me with these new f*cking ideas – you’re really f*cking with my head now.”

We’re all at it. Most travel companies have now embraced social media. Twitter is no longer a dirty word (even Heathrow is now at it), chief executives are writing decent blogs, and social networking is being used extensively across marketing and customer relations.

We’ve basically caught up with our American cousins. That’s great. But it looks like it could get silly, and we need to calm down, and not use technology just for the sake of it.

New applications are being thrown at us at an alarming rate. Most we can catch as they wizz by, but Google seems to be chucking new things at us every week. Yesterday I read it had broken into the Sat Nav market, massively denting share prices of TomTom and Garmin. Google scares me, but impresses me at the same time.

Only last week I scrambled at the chance for a Google Wave invite (thanks Rob). I still have no idea why. Now Twitter Lists is upon us.

There’s never a dull moment, so best to plough on I guess.

Good Morning!

We were really excited to see our latest artwork by Neil Duerden in the Shortlist magazine this morning.

The Freedom campaign for latest Samsung X-Series laptop was directed by our friend Kelly Sands at Beattie McGuinness Bungay. Neil was asked to illustrate and express the freedom of having 9 hours of battery life on the laptop; we think he did a fantastic job!

Click on the image for a larger size – or, if you grabbed a Shortlist on your journey this morning, check it out in it’s full glory!

Today was much better than the misery that was yesterday. I managed to figure out the network issues

Today was much better than the misery that was yesterday.

I managed to figure out the network issues at my Nans place. They are now all sorted, secured and happy.

I have managed to re-write my personal statement. The v.2 is much better.

Now all thats remaining is to get tomorrow out the way and roll on the holidays! Wahey!

I’m seeing a lot of fuss about Mr. Hudson and his new Album. Im listening to it on Spotify now. It’s quite good. I remember Supernova. But, his other songs aren’t much in comparison.

I really can’t wait to catch up on some sleep on Friday. For the past 3 days, I have been falling asleep on the train again. Yesterday was the worst. I usually think nobody has noticed. It’s that sleepyness where you KNOW you shouldn’t be falling asleep, so when your head rolls you wake yourself up.

Turns out, I was being watched by someone. She looked at me and smiled. I could feel myself going bright red and I couldnt stop it. The thought that I have been compromised!

Luckily, there was some really old ladies on the train today. I got on and a pound coin fell out my pocket. I picked it up and they joked with me I couldn’t pick it up quick enough.

I put it back and then got comfy. Then, two twenty pences fell out and two pence. The woman was like ‘OH! FOURTY TWO PENCE NOW!. QUICK QUICK, PICK IT UP!’

Then the woman opposite me was like ‘You just need a woman to spend it for you’. She was mid 40’s and she fully put her hand out infront of my face. I replied ‘I have a lovely girl to spend it for me’, putting emphasis on the girl bit.

She gave me this awkward look, and I put my nose back into my shortlist.

10 minutes later ‘OH MY GOD! At this point, I shit myself. I think the trains about to de-rail, or someones having a heartattack.

‘Have they changed the Shortlist Day?!’ She was shouting so loud.

‘No, but you can usually grab a copy Wednesday evening.’

Does it really matter if they change the day? She was so dramatic about it. Saying something like ‘OH BALLS’.

So, luckily I didn’t fall asleep today, only thanks to old women. They wouldn’t shut up goddamnit.

so, dann zeig doch mal.

And I almost forgot about the Scotiabank Giller Prize shortlist which was announced today…

I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t read any of these books and I’m not familiar with any of the authors. But my review of Amphibian goes up tomorrow… so perhaps my support of another Canadian author will make up for my neglect.

My attempt at a summer shortlist was a moderate success. I only read about half of the books I was planning to, even giving myself an extra month’s worth of summer in which to accomplish it. Still, I liked having a box of books by my bed where I could keep my “to be read next” pile. The only problems were a) finding something else on the shelf that appealed more, and b) getting books from the library instead of reading my own!

So, whether or not I stick to it is thoroughly up in the air, but I thought I’d at least make a shortlist of what I’d like to get read in the next few months. Some of these are my own, some are coming from the library, but hopefully having a list will keep me somewhat on track and not too distracted by other shiny new books at the library and/or bookstore. (Hey, I’m trying to be optimistic, here. Really, it could happen. Hey, seriously, stop laughing!)

- Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. For review in the next week or so… it might actually make a good break in the middle of the Gabaldon tome.

- The Bigamist’s Daughter by Alice McDermott. My advisor walked over to my desk and said “You like novels, right? I think you’ll like this one.”

- Twilight of Avalon by Anna Elliott. I won a copy last spring, spent all summer hearing good things about it, now I really need to read it.

- Ship Fever by Andrea Barrett. It’s boats! And short stories! And sciency-related!

- In the Woods by Tara French. Maybe it’s just the cover design, but this feels like an appropriate fall read.

- The Vintner’s Luck by Elizabeth Knox. I always feel bad if I don’t get one year’s Christmas presents read by the time the next year rolls around.

- The Last Light of the Sun by Guy Gavriel Kay. Aww, Guy, it’s been too long.

- Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch. Before I forget everything that happened in The Lies of Locke Lamora.

bekloppter Scheisskopf, scheiss Pisskopf, Kopfscheisser, bepisster Scheisskopf, Scheisskopf in Buttersauce, Beschissener Blödkopf, Dünnschissschädel.

DUMPFNASE:

Universal, frontal, Chancen: marginal.

Von der Auswahlliste:
Peniskopf
FDP-Wähler
Ökospiesser
Krisengewinnler
Flötenkasper
Krampfpisser
Floristenpack
…
