I am stoked to post the Winter 2010 REBEL8 Collection. Models include the homie Benny Gold, Mike Giant, Rob Collinson of Lowcard Magazine, Mike Maxwell, John Trippe, and Henry Lewis. The photos were taken by Dylan Maddux.

This makes for REBEL8’s very first lookbook! These items are available at REBEL8 retailers now and will be available online on Black Friday!

Our good homies that run The Bad Character have recently opened their new website which we announced a few moths ago. Anyhow, the website has been adorned with an updated portfolio of items that were desgined by The Bad Character Crew. Be sure to view the updated portfolio here.

Also, check back for an interview with The Bad Character Crew soon! In the mean time, don’t strain those eyes too hard with the unreleased items in the 2010 lookbooks!

PRESS RELEASE

IMMEDIATE RELEASE – November 23, 2009

Hello, WIB Ladies and Public!

First, many special thanks goes out to Julee Wasserman for providing leadership for our recent, successful fundraiser for the Oregon Food Bank and holiday showcase for WIB and other women in business!

Second, we raised $1,260 dollars and 100LB of food from the silent auction. All proceeds raised go direct to the Oregon Food Bank. Linda Boal of Glutten-Free products and Eco-flakes granola was the coordinator of our silent auction and she did a wonderful job! Thank you, Linda!

We raised $944 last year so this is a nice increase from what we could do last year….thank you, all, for your donations and generous support! Julee, Linda, and I estimate we had 200 – 300 people travel through from 9 – 3PM.

All of us asked how people had heard of our event and the following was noted:
*KATU TV news listing for the community (ran two weekends)
*Portland Picks (ran Friday before our event)
*Star newspaper (ran early November)
*Event postings in Oregonian (Yeah!)
*Word-of-mouth was the biggest draw…many of our vendors advertised the event and our public came out to support us! Thank you!

We all sincerely hope you enjoyed participating in our event. Feel free to send feedback to Julee Wasserman or myself on what worked / what didn’t…(I know I worked with Molly from Kennedy School on loudness of music / music selection…we did our best to meet all the vendor needs on this point).

I personally thought the quality of vendors selected, the food selection using the vendor ticket, and the excellent staff from the Kennedy School was of the best quality! I always wish for more people but I think we met the numbers from last year! We obviously increased our silent auction donations to the Oregon Food Bank! In one of our hardest economic years, I’d say our grassroots, networking efforts were well done!

Lastly, SAVE the DATE! Tuesday, December 15th, we’re gathering for another networking night at the west-side Here We Go Store on Carolina St . The November 22 2009 edition of The Sunday Times did a special story about the rise of online video websites in Singapore. One of the artworks I did for Wacom/Klik made it in.

I think the end of the world is near.  It makes me sad, but I think this is it.  What else could explain the absolute shit that is on TV these days.  Celebrity Rehab, Sex Rehab, Paris Hilton’s BFF, Tila Tequila and fuck, even P. Diddy, or whatever the fuck his name is, has a “reality” show.  It’s all friggin crap.  Hogan know’s best, the Hills, people with 8 kids, 16 kids, 32 kids, geez.  What makes this Tv?  It’s like being at the circus watching the freak-shows. 

Right now on showcase there are 2 men in thongs tied together by a harness in the 69 position and they are pounding the shit out of each other’s ass cheeks.  UGH.  Then the guy drools on the other guys leg.  UGH.  It’s as bad as watching poker on TV.  (turned off after 20 more seconds).

It’s no wonder I just stick to sports, Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, and a ton of cooking shoes and news.

Please, someone come up with something original!!!

The incredible new P.R. team over at DC Shoes have been great. I do miss Ida, but she has moved up to higher places. Only 100 of these custom kits were sent out and I was fortunate enough to receive one.

Anyhow, the shoes come in a beautiful white box with a DC logo embossed on the top, a personal letter to the people receiving as well as a custom white t-shirt with the same detailings as the across the heel of the shoe only across the front of the t-shirt and a DC icon on the back. The heel displays ‘RD0915AW.’ The ‘R.D.’ is obvious of what it stands for, ‘0951′ which combined equals the year his first shoe dropped, and the model number, and lastly his board sponsor Alien Workshop. Keep in mind that these shoes are the same that have released under Rob’s latest Dyrdek Collection, except with a ultra-limite edition colorway.

Can you imagine my surprise when I awoke to find dozens of people wandering around Milk Wood. Not to say we don’t get a good number during our events but with no events taking place, I was confused as to why they were there. After a few hours of wading through the crowds I asked one of the visitors how she had heard of us. “Oh,” she said, “You are on the Showcase, you’re number one right at the top of the list.”

Now, I have to admit I didn’t really know how to access this list and did feel silly asking, but eventually I pulled it up and there we were, right at the top as she had said! Somehow we have caught the Linden’s eye and I am thrilled and honoured. I’ve worked hard to grow our community which started in February 2008 but I have to say the honour should go to all our fabulous members, many of whom work so tirelessly for us. So, thank you to the most remarkable people, our community at Milk Wood.

De Haagse band Kane is volgende week dagelijks te gast in het ochtendprogramma van Giel Beelen op Radio 3FM. Ter promotie van de nieuwe CD ‘No Surrender’ zal de band elke dag live een nummer van het album spelen. De CD is vanaf vandaag te beluisteren op de website van 3FM. Het album ligt vanaf 27 november in de winkels.
Op 30 november geeft Kane een exclusieve showcase voor 3FM. Komende week worden daarvoor kaarten weggegeven aan luisteraars van de zender. Het miniconcert zal worden uitgezonden in het radioprogramma ‘That’s Live’.
Medio december geeft Kane een eenmalig concert in de Franse wintersportplaats Val Thorens. Op de website van televisiezender RTL5 kunnen belangstellenden een reis boeken waarbij het concert is inbegrepen. RTL5 gaat ook een prijsvraag organiseren waarbij kijkers de reis kunnen winnen.

Just a quick word to say how excellent the Chelmsford Business Showcase was this last week. Two days of seminars, networking and exhibits – there was a definite buzz around the exhibition halls. A very burgeoning event. Well done Chelmsford Borough Council.

• “I was born in 1984 on February the 25 in Riga. Since very young age participated in all possible art study groups and schools. That’s what I liked the most, but never thought it’ll became my destiny or profession, thought it’s just a hobby. At the age of 15 I was asked to do some modeling, first in Latvia and then in Milan and Paris. Being in such controversial age I was really fascinated with all creative processes in fashion industry, with new places and people. That’s where I first realized, that creating an art can become your profession. Also I realized, that I don’t want to be a part or a material(model) of this process, I want to invent myself. I graduated Latvian Academy of Art, visual communication department. Before that I studied web and graphic design, which helped me to work in advertising. Till now I’m doing some work on creating companies styles, logos, and some publishing ads. But my real passion is fashion photography.Trying to acquire new techniques and increase quality of my works, changing equipment and looking for new faces, thinking creative I am living my dream.”
• “I am very emotional and very reserved and introvert person at the same time, so doing photography is almost the only way I can express my emotions. • “The more black&white and colored photography will compete, the more beautiful works will appear! There never will be strict YES or NO for one of the techniques, they both are unique and each reflects reality. But I have to confess, that I truly looove shooting b&w with analog camera. Shooting b&w was the first my serious experience in photography, and those works are still my favorite peace of art!”

Of course people should want to be there in front of you, they should want to be discovered, like actors, they have to have smth to show.Through photographers eyes the whole world could be looking at you! The long-awaited collaborative New Era joint between Benny Gold and REBEL8 is finally around the corner. In fact, the cap will drop today at 9AM.

The hats came out great and feature various logos and sayings from each brand. The hats also feature gold embroidery and satin lining.

Please understand that these caps will be extremely limited to only 88 pieces each at each respective brand’s website. Do not sleep!

A little while back, we were one of the first to bring you images of the long-awaited collaboration between Benny Gold and REBEL8. We leaked similar images above of BG’s iconic Paper Airplane graphic, this time seen done-up in 2 different colorways detailed with Mike Giant’s black and white Sharpie work. Both colorways of the Bombed Glider T-Shirts have released under BG’s Holiday 2009 Collection now.

Estevan Oriol and his old lady, L.A. Angel have recently been inside of the Lowrider Tattoo Studios having some ink done. I previously posted the work that Jose did on Estevan’s wife, but Estevan has been putting together some design work that will grace the walls of the new studio. Everything seems to be coming together pretty well. Wait and see…
