Buying Christmas presents can be plain cruel. Is it just me thinking this?

So, I am on the beauty floor, I’ve battled all the other customers to get the gifts I want (Christmas is a free for all for freakish shopping behaviour!

My feet are telling me that I have queued for an eternity and as painful as it was I have mentally parted with money I cant afford to spend. Then, just before I am about to part with my pounds and leave I see them, the tactfully placed limited edition make up sets…

.

Limited edition make up sets are a vice in themselves. We all want it because (although we can probably live with out it) its limited, its exclusive…What will happen if we don’t buy it? I might never get this opportunity again!

Limited edition products are always beautifully packaged but Christmas offers a little bit more glitter to the packaging and in the products themselves-  Irresistible for make up magpies like me!

Limited edition sets are usually extremely good value as well, many brands will put together the best bits of their brand possibly in trial sizes at a cost much lower than buying them separately in hope of getting you hooked for the rest of the year.

So the moral of the story is I am going to buy myself a present this Christmas!!!

1. I love Sephora. I wish we still had Sephora stores in London. I am sure I would be first in line to get one of these sets. 84 eyeshadows, 60 lip colours (dribble) the fun we could have with this!

A gorgeous screen siren style red lip should be compulsary at Christmas and they dont come better than this gorgeous 1930s Hollywood red, n°95 from Giorgio Armani. The colour is classic and rich. The  black laquered art deco casing is lushand top off  with Swarovski crystals on the top.

I tried out Clarins Gold Attraction Face Palette in store the other day and loved it. The reason for this being that this luminising face powder gives a subtle golden glow. You could dust this powder all over with out the over kill and obvious glitter of many shimmers and its packaging is lush, luxe gold.

I know deep down that this is a one use wonder but who doesn’t want a bionic sparkly gold mascara…?  Estee Lauder’s Ultimate Red Turbolash is more of an effect than a mascara. It works best over your own black mascara rather than on its own as a conventional mascara. When you remove the mascara wand from the tube it vibrates which apparantly aids application. This is novelty, and over priced so its one that would go on my Christmas list but I probably wouldn’t buy myself…

Shu Uemura’s  Snow twist premium edition lashes need no explanation. We all want these lashes so we can look like snow queens on Christmas day and freak out our boring relatives.

They are upper and lower lashes that look wirey and frosted. Addorned with tiny pink crystals, I need them.

I am amazed by the value of these brushes from Sonia Kashuk available at Space nk. At £29.36 this is affordable quality. I would recommend these for a travel brush set, for the occasional make up wearer or as a emergency set for make up artists. I may have to save up for the full size brushes (from around £13-£30)

I am already a huge fan of MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish. Nuance Mineralize Blush is a wearable peachy tone. The Play on Plums Mineralize Eye Shadow is a gorgeous duo of the lighter colour is a shimmering coppery pink and on the other side is a oppulent deep burgandy.

A really nice set that would look gorgeous and bring a smile on christmas day to many make up lovers.

Pigments are a make up artists best friend. They are so versatile.

This is a great gift idea for anyone with stick straight lashes like myself.  This is the holy-grail of eyelash curlers.  It’s not heated, it’s not plated in gold and it doesn’t jump onto your face and curl your lashes by itself but what it does is this: It Works!  This gives you perfectly curled lashes without hassel and stress which is the one thing we don’t want in the mornings.

For people like myself who wear glasses, stick straight lashes coated with mascara can be an all day annoyance because they constantly sratch at the lens of your glasses and you can feel them brushing against your glasses all day.  Not cute.  This however creates a perfect curl and somehow helps the curl last most of the day.

I don’t think I’ve blogged before about make-up. Guys: this could be a girl’s only zone unless of course you are into glitz and glam – read on then. Or if you want to buy your gal something very special for Xmas.

If ever I was going to have another career (apart from being an archaeologist, writer, photographer or mega-rich entrepreneur of course), I’d want to be a make-up artist. All my life, I’ve LOVED make-up, particularly shiny, sparkly lip gloss. Can’t get enough of lip gloss.

I don’t really take much note of the design or packaging of products because I’m so keen to get to use the product. But breezing through Hong Kong duty free, I stopped (literally) in my tracks when I came across the Shu Uemura display. Shu Uemura is a Japanese cosmetics house founded by the legendary Japanese make-up artist of the same name. The brand is available in Australia but I’ve not taken much notice of it..until now.

The Japanese fashion designer, Tsumori Chisato, has collaborated with Shu Uemura to produce the limited edition Planet Cat range. I bought the Planet Cat Couture Palette and the Duo Colour Highlighter, Stardust.

Just look at the quirky designs and the beauty of the silvery, glittery compact with a black cat that has one eye made from a rhinestone. Really, they are works of art. And collectible I’d say. This is a limited edition range, so guess you’d best be quick to snap up the kitties.

I must admit I bought the items because of the design. The colours in the Planet Cat palette strike me as a little odd. You get three pressed eye shadows in Black Glitz; Shiny Silver and Copper; one cream eyeliner in Black Purple; one cream highlighter in Gold Iridescent and a (gorgeous) soft Apricot pink blush. There’s a bit too much glitter happening here for me and the colours are an odd combination of warm and cool tones. But seems the collection is all about stars and moons, hence the colour palette I guess.

The Stardust highlighter though is gorgeous, sort of like leaving a trail of shimmering stardust on your face where you use it.  And the winking cat is a bonus.

I can hardly bring myself to dip into the products because it will mess up the cat designs. I’m hoping that fashion designers and artists will be used a whole heap more in collaboration with consumer products.

Many if you may have seen the collection in stores already.  The collaboration Christmas 2009 collection between Shu Uemura and famous Japanese Designer Tsumori Chisato.  This will be a hit with cat lovers as well as suckers for cute-sy packaging.  The colours in the palettes are pretty much wearable on usual occasions too even thought this is a Xmas collection.  The 3 makeup pouches (two of which comes as a set with either 3 mini lip glosses or travel sized brushes) are also very pretty.  Go pick your fancy.  The kira-kilash has eight parts of false lashes each with either white or black diamantes.  You can use them all at one go for high drama or just one part at the outer corners of the eyes over regular falsies for some sparkle.

And the face of this campaign is Romana (from Slovakia if I remember correctly). We worked together when she was here a few months back.  She was a sweet girl.  Happy to see her land an international campaign.

OK, confession time: I’m not a Twilight fan. There I said it. I just don’t get this vampire phenomena and pardon me but I’m a firm believer in the old school (read: real way) of portraying vampires. I’m talking burnin’ in the sun, drive a stake through the heart, use garlic to keep ‘em away kinda fan.

I am, however, a beauty junkie who likes to replicate the looks I see on the red carpet. At last night’s “New Moon” premiere in LA, “Twilight” star Ashley Greene did her thing!

Celeb makeup artist Vanessa Scali worked her magic and now we how she did it. According to Vanessa, “The look was classic 60’s…well-defined eyes with lots of lashes, a strong brow and clean skin with subtle pink/coral cheeks and lips.”

We all know I’m a wannabe ’60s baby, so I’m all over this look!

To start, Vanessa evened out Ashley’s “nearly flawless skin” with Lancôme’s Effacernes concealer in Light Bisque underneath the eyes. “It gives clean, fresh, flawless coverage,” she said. Bobbi Brown’s Foundation Stick followed. Lancôme’s Blush Subtil in Shimmer Pink Pool topped the apples of the cheeks.

For Ashley’s dramatic eyes, Vanessa swept YSL’s Fard Lumiére Aquarésistant Cream Eyeshadow in Pink Sands over the entire eye. To define and elongate the lash line, Vanessa used Lancôme’s Artliner in Black and lined the inner rims with Shu Uemura’s Painting Liner in White. The finishing touch: a few generous coats of Lancôme’s Ôscillation Mascara in Black for “seductively lengthy lashes,” says Vanessa. Ashley’s brows were sculpted with Lancôme’s Le Crayon Poudre in Brunet.

Finally, Lancôme’s hot new lipstick from the Pout-á-Porter series-L’Absolu Rouge in Chris & Tell-made a sneak peek appearance. The gorgeous hue, which was created for designer Chris Benz’s Spring show, will be available in February. The Chris & Tell waiting list is open at the Saks Fifth Avenue New York counter. Gilded makeup is so festive and celebratory, which means it’s perfect for the upcoming holiday season. There is just something about a smattering of gold shimmer worn on the eye, lip, or cheek throughout the cold months…maybe it’s reminiscent of the irridescence of falling snow? If you’re hesitant to jump on the gold bandwagon, this liner is a great way to dip your toes in the water. A thin line will light up your eyes and lend a sleek sophistication to any evening look. For more impact, dab it lightly in the inner corners of eyes for extra illumination. It also works wonders as an eyeshadow base; applying shadow on top will tone down the metallic effect and create a base for shadow to adhere to.

2. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Metallic Cream Shadow in Goldstone ($22): This creamy shadow is flecked with subtle gold shimmer. Layer it on lids and forget about it, because it lasts for hours without budging. Sei que não é novidade pra muita gente, mas é lindo demais pra não estar aqui.

A nova linha de maquiagem de Shu Uemura, desenvolvida pela estilista japonesa Tsumori Chisato tem como tema o Pequeno Príncipe. A coleção tem paleta de sombras, blush, kit de mini pincéis, cílios postiços… Muito fofo né?

Ainda não está a venda no Brasil e que eu saiba também não está sendo vendido nos sites de make. But (vocês também não adoram esse but?), quem conhecer alguém que more na América (mais especificamente nos EUA) pode comprar pelo site com um cartão internacional e pedir para o produto ser entregue na casa do seu american friend. Ele remete de la para cá como um presente e você não paga taxas quando receber.

I’m trying to get used to using false eyelashes… specifically for cosplay and dress up reasons.

Shu Uemura makes amazingly pretty ones (though some people might think they’re odd).

I did a quick doodle in which the rainbow ones are used.

I think the doodle sucks but I really do love Shu Uemura’s lashes ; Maybe I can incorporate them better next time I have more time to draw for myself.

Which reminds me.. I should be doing work.

^I am actually considering going to AX again, and if I do I’d want to cosplay. In which i do kind of want to do Rydia, therefore I want those green lashes.

Bene, quindi se sull’invito non è specificato come vestirsi meglio n0n esagerare: basta qualche piccolo accessorio per essere perfettamente “mascherate”, ma sempre eleganti e perfette.

Se volete un accessorio elegante e divertente, il consiglio per voi è giocare con le maschere. Dai toni scuri se volete essere sensuali ed enigmatiche, o colorate, per apparire più giocose e frizzanti. Un marchio che le propone è Accessorize, il quale punta tutto su piume e paillettes. Per tutte le donne che ogni volta che vedono una star con ciglia lunghe e folte pensano: anche io le vorrei così. La maggior parte delle volte il loro segreto sono le ciglia finte e, per Halloween e le feste, perchè rinunciarvi? Soprattutto a provarne di strane e colorate. Il marchio di ciglia finte per eccellenza è Shu Uemura, che propone varie linee per ogni gusto ed esigenza. Per Halloween sicuramente l’idea è osare, quindi io sceglierei tra le Fantasy Lashes e le Premium Lashes. La differenza non è solo nel design, ma anche nel prezzo. Per chi non vuole essere troppo appariscente io consiglio di scegliere le False Lashes Dazzling Diamante (1), ciglia nere e folte con una striscia di brillantini sull’attaccatura (25 $), create in realtà con veri diamanti per Madonna. Le altre ciglia sono della serie Premium Lashes, tutte vendute in confezione speciale a 65 €. Onde marine da sirena con Marine Tide (2), Snow Twist (3) per una regina delle nevi, Goldglam Leaf (4) per le amanti dell’oro e Fleur-ever (5) per un tocco tra l’animalier e il floreale. Le mie preferite sono senza dubbio le Snow Twist, perchè trovo strana l’idea di ciglia bianche, ma le vedo anche perfette per un party sulla neve!

Tutti accessori minimal per non passare inosservate, ma senza esagerare e rimanendo sempre eleganti e divertenti.

I tried all the colours at the shop and… the vivid blue and the pink is so beautifully opaque. The other colours such as purple and green are more subtle. I wore this all day and really it’s quite good! No smudges or wearing off or anything.. AND you have to understand that I’m Asian and where I put my eyeliner always rubs against my eyelid whenever I blink.

Reeally love the colour as well- I got Blue!
